[Q] Rooting Question for Asus - General Questions and Answers

Hi so i am new in the Android world i just recently obtained a new Asus Memo Pad 10 (ME103K) and i would like to root it to use some functions a friend showed on their Android device, but i sadly got scared that i might brick my device if i do not root correctly, so i searched up my device but i couldn't find anything that looked like a guide for this particular one ( i even read in a forum that it supposedly doesn't have a root yet because its new ) , so my question is : Is there any way to root this device yet? and if yes, can i ask for a guide or a link that has the guide? Thanks in advance .

*Bump*
I haven't been able to find a root working for Asus MemoPad 10 (ME103K) Could anyone provide any information if there is a root available? (I saw many fake sites and some claiming to work but didn't)
Thank you in advance

Downlaod version 1.9.3

I rooted ME103K on my own, compiling a custom kernel
Executive summary: Go to youtube and watch video with ID "gqubgQjqfHw" (I can't post links yet, sorry! ) - or search Youtube for "Rooting MemoPAD10 (ME103K) with my custom compiled kernel"
Analysis:
I hated the fact that my recently purchased MemoPAD10 (ME103K) tablet had no open process to allow me to become root. I don't trust the closed-source one-click root apps that use various exploits, and require communicating with servers in.... China. Why would they need to do that? I wonder...
I therefore decided this was a good opportunity for me to study the relevant documentation and follow the steps necessary to build an Android kernel for my tablet. I then packaged my custom-compiled kernel into my custom boot image, and the video shows how I boot from it and become root in the process.
Note that I didn't burn anything in my tablet - it's a 'tethered' root, it has no side-effects.
If you are a developer, you can read in detail about the steps I had to take to modify the kernel (and su.c) and become root - by reading the questions (and answers!) that I posted in the Android StackExchange forum ( can't post links yet, see the video description in Youtube ).
If you are not a developer, you can download my custom boot image from the link below - but note that this means you are trusting me to not do evil things to your tablet as my kernel boots and my /sbin/su is run
Honestly, I haven't done anything - I just wanted to run a deboot-strapped Debian in my tablet. But I am also worried about the cavalier attitude I see on the web about rooting your devices - if you want to be truly safe, you must either do what I did (and recompile the kernel yourself) or absolutely trust the person that gives it to you. I do wish Google had forced a UI-accessible "become root" option in Android, just as Cyanogen does (sigh).
The image I created and used in the video to boot in rooted mode, is available from the link show in the Youtube video details.
Enjoy!

New Recovery Flasher ! [updated 20090904]

http://zenthought.org/content/project/flashrec
Tool to flash the recovery image on Android phones. The so-called “one click root”.
No longer includes CyanogenMod Recovery 1.4 , but will download the correct CyanogenMod Recovery 1.4 for your phone.
Allows flashing any image (type the path or url to it).
Works on “32B” and “32A” phones.
Uses CVE-2009-2692 , which is patched in firmwares released after August 2009.
Also allows you to back up and restore the current image (to /sdcard/recovery-backup.img)
NOTE: I just found this update and have nothing to do with the actual project - though I am grateful for the work and would like to share the info!
Bluetooth access is only used to create a socket for exploiting the bug – Bluetooth does not need to be enabled, as it is not really used.
Pre-compiled: flashrec-1.1-20090904.apk (Allow non-market apps on phone to install)
Source: flashrec-1.1-20090904.tar.gz
SVN: flashrec on Google Code
Note: I am not involved in this project, just sharing the hard work of someone else.
Trying right now on a G1 Dev phone.
Awesome app! The real universal rooting tool!! (for now at least
I heard about this a couple days ago. Will this thing still work after donut? Also would this be in here or in the app section?
Does anyone have their original backup before they rooted their phone? I need it in order to get my phone back to unroot. I need it in order to restore my splash image since my hardware keyboard isn't completely working.
Any help will gladly be appreciated.

REQUEST Anyone with a Polaroid tablet, that can record a video, please read

As many of you have already seen I have been working on the Polaroid All in One project. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2066041
This is a request for anyone with a Polaroid Tablet (PTAB8000, and PMID800 verified to work) to make a youtube video demonstrating our software. From Beginning to End. So if your device is already rooted / has google apps. I ask that you remove google apps, un-root, and start fresh in the video tutorial. Please use the most current version 1.4b.
1) Goto http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2066041 and download the latest version of Polaroid All in One.
2) Download drivers from the same thread.
3) Install ADB Drivers
4) Run Polaroid All in One
5) Root, and Install Google Apps / Framework
6) Demo that everything works correctly
That's pretty much all I'm looking for, I would do it myself but am without a tablet at the moment. I will post this tutorial in the thread, it'd be a great way to get some subscribers. You can either respond to this thread with a link to your video, or PM me.
Thanks in advanced!

Requesting Further Knowledge : Ubuntu Touch for p3110

Greetings;
I've been searching how to install and where to get Ubuntu Touch files for my p3110.
I couldn't find anything that could provide me with concrete information.
- Is there a Compatible way to Install Ubuntu Touch on this Tablet?
- If so can anyone provide me links for file(s) or recommend me a place for more research? (As i'm having a hard time to get them)
- Can still use Google Play and Andorid Apps?
- Can i Still Flash / Have CWM?
- Can i Flash a Custom Kernel and Still Control My CPU Speed easily?
Any good straight forward info would be apreciated.
In return you can expect (as usual) some more tutorials for this device.
Best Regards;

Complete Guide to Root and Update Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Hi all.
Complete noob here - just wanted to document my journey for resurrecting my daughter's Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet to make it usable again.
It had stock rom on it (android 4.0.4) ICS and would not update. Consequently, none of the apps were working and basically it was ready for the trash.
Yes, it's 7 years old, but hey, why throw it in the trash - I thought I'd have a go at rooting and updating. It took me a couple of days but now it's done, it's updated to 7.1 Nougat and working flawlessly.
So here is my Journey - I hope it will help someone. Big thanks to all the Devs out there who have put countless hours into keeping this tablet alive (especially decatf who appears to be very nice person
This assumes no prior knowledge - but be warned - I am not responsible for any damage you cause to your device or if you "brick it". If that worries you do not proceed! By following the below guide, you will be wiping all data from your device so proceed with caution!!
The following worked for me to install Android Nougat on my device - mine is a GT-P7510 but I used the files for the GT-P7500 because when I tried the specific files for the P7510, they didn't work). You might have to get creative here and there to get yours to work!
1) Create folder on your PC / Mac computer desktop to put the required files in;
2) Download the files from here:
- Odin3-v1.85.zip - or do a search for it (this will be for "flashing" twerp onto your device)
- twrp311-20171009-p4.zip
- aosp-7.1-p4-20171005.zip
- P7500-open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20170416.zip
- GalaxyTabHacks.com_SuperUser.zip
- USB drivers if you need them are here: http://gizmoword.com/Files/2017/09/24/samsung-usb-drivers/
3. Instal Twerp / Custom Recovery
Before you can install custom software (Nougat etc) you will need to root the tablet. Before you root the tablet, you need to install TWERP which will allow you access to things like backup and recovery etc.
To install TWERP follow this guide and ensure you make backup before proceeding to step 4 - that way you can always go back to your stock image if there are any problems.
https://theunlockr.com/2012/05/11/h...od-recovery-on-the-wifi-only-galaxy-tab-10-1/
NOTE: in the above, it mentions ClockWorkMod (CWM) - However CWM did not work for me, so after installing CWM - I then installed TWERP (they basically do the same thing). I am not sure if you can simply install TWERP instead of CWM - but I installed TWERP over the top of CWM after I had followed the above guide.
4. Root the tablet: The following guide was very helpful to me;
https://theunlockr.com/2012/05/18/how-to-root-the-wifi-only-galaxy-tab-10-1/
and / or this one:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2361571
5. Now you should be ready to install the custom ROM (Nougat)
Follow these guides:
https://www.droidword.com/2017/11/2...10-1-gt-p7510-to-android-7-1-nougat-aosp-rom/
and here is the source code and infos;
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-10-1/development/rom-android-7-0-nougat-t3471350
6. After following the above, I installed Gapps Pico (very small google basic apps needed for tablet boot e.g. playstore etc)
7. Reboot device and enjoy the setup. Congrats - if all went well you should now be on 7.1 Nougat and can download all your favourite apps.
You can also download and install other software e.g. Chrome browser optimised for your old tablet
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...t/app-chromium-m56-optimized-tegra-2-t3550210
Best of luck! Note - I am not developer of any of the above. Kudos to all the devs.
I followed your directions and now play store does not work. Can you help me??
I had to experiment with this because some of the files gave me problems. Aside from the aosp-7.1-p4-20171005.zip which does work some the files don't. I ended up using TWRP version 2.8.7.0. (there is no official TWRP for the GT-P7510. Closest one is called "Picaso" you can search specifically for that one). Whichever GAPPS you decide to use must be an "open" Gapps such as, open_gapps-arm-7.1-full-20181106.zip.
After flashing there were difficulties. Google Play apps won't download or install. Google Chrome or any other Google related apps do not function. There are no developer settings. I even tried to download some Developer Setting apks of which none work. The ROM in itself looks and works good except for those bugs. Camera and flash actually work properly.
X L ENT.

Hi all.
For a " Nooby " you have achieved an exellent result. I know a lot about PC's, But the Android OS is new for me. I followed your instructions to the letter. The end result is amazing, what a transformation. This article is very detailed and clear, also very well written. My compliments on a job well done. Thank you.

Android 8 or 9?
Great post. I'm also a noob but am going to give it a try since you've laid everything out so nicely. One question I have before getting started is do you think this will also work with the latest versions of Android (8 or 9) rather than Android 7? Thanks much for any advice before I take the plunge!

My curent opinion is that the Android 7 version works better overall.
thread: Complete Guide to Root and Update Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
ok so most of the roms i have tested are overcome v2.3, nougat AOSP 7.1.2 , cwm clean rom v2 and others on the GT-P7510MA and i must say they are awesome builds to try and ressurect the tablet giving life to it but these Roms seem to dont give it the core functionality of playing games or even being able to handle the YouTube app version came in the pico packages or downloaded from the play store, can you developers from GitHub please work on this tablet. It gives constant crashes on playing games downloaded from the app store or opening certain apps other from that you guys would make my day and i would generously donate cause you guys deserve every penny!!! please fix this and we are ok worked for me but everything except games and the YouTube app. People remember most of these developers don't have the tablets, time or cash so we have to test on our tablets, donate so there cup of coffee doesn't runs out and report to them effectively right before there coffee runs out!
I'm still using mine. There were some similar issues I had and if I remember correctly Google play was the main issue with other Google apps. I think and this is going on memory. You would install the ROM then the GAPPS, but not flash both at the same time. Or Google apps would lock up for some reason and give you some issue. So for it to work correctly you flash the ROM. Turned it on and let it load up. Then you would turn it off so you could start up the TWRP recovery, then you would flash the GAPPS.
But Channel 48 put out a video on this if you get confused. This is the easiest way.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rN1Xwskjjfw&t=914s
And the update to 8.1 is also an option.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_bsR1Az3Sw&t=312s
Thanks @Casper Young I will take a look at the 8.1
It seems Channel48 has a lot of helpful videos. You can search for your exact model on his search page: for example, I am checking on P5110 here:

Hi, there, everyone
I've been trying to download the files needed, but most of the links no longer work. Where can I find the programs needed?

HipStreet Phantom 2 10" tablet

I'm trying to revive a seriously slow & buggy tablet from the draw to run just 1 app for my cctv when in the garage. Anyways, It's running Android 6.0 but its shocking slow & it wont update google play services. So, I'm looking for a custom rom, twrp & root for this tablet. I've been googling for 2 days & when I find a website, like tweakdroid or gofirmware which seems to have an identical website under different URLs who's download links just sends me in an infinite loop of clicking, Tweakdroid sends me to download stuff, but the links are always dead or it tells me to download something which like twrp, but I'm asked to select the make, which isn't displayed.
I've got all kinds of tablets, even tablets that are generically basic & old that have twrp & custom roms available. So why can't I find anything for this? So help needed

IMO you should ask this question to developers of TWRP and/or Custom ROM ( like LineageOS ).
