Hoping someone might have a tweak to make this work... When I use my phone in my car I like to use a voice action app (AVX) or sometimes good ol' Google Voice Search. with my old Dinc, it was great at picking up my voice even with the radio on and the a/c blasting.
However, on the S3, the mic seems to pick up the ambient noise (even if it's just the a/c on low or the car running) and doesn't do so well at picking up my voice. Sometimes it will get my voice command but will take forever to execute it because even after i stop talking it keeps listening because it's picking up the ambient sounds. Other times, it only picks up the ambient sounds and doesn't get my voice at all.
Since driving is probably the one time when a voice action app is actually needed, I'm hoping there's a setting or something that can help this. Or perhaps it's just one of those flaws in an otherwise great phone? Like I said my 2 1/2 year old Dinc did a great job of picking up my voice so it's sad to see such a cutting edge phone doing such a horrible job at it.
The weird thing is the phone has no problem hearing my voice commands over the ringtone (reject/answer) or over my music playing (stop, next, etc) so it seems like maybe the noise cancellation feature just isn't starting up like it should when a voice actions app like voice search is listening...
Anyone else notice this? Anyone have any ideas or tweaks to improve it?
Thanks for the help!
Hello all, I have searched high and low, and wasted many hours, but found nothing satisfactory.
Basically, I want to be able to press my bluetooth button and record a voice memo. No need for any fancy voice recognition and all that, just record my voice memo so I can take notes when I can't be looking at or handling my phone.
When I press my bluetooth button now, I get the google voice dialer which doesn't help. I tried messing around with Bluetooth Launch but for some reason it wouldn't work for me (I'm running SlimBean ROM 4.1.2 on my Captivate.
It seems like such a basic function, I can't believe I might actually have to BUY a small digital recorder when I have this beast of a computer in my pocket!
Any advice?
Sometimes s-voice keeps listening after I'm done talking. This seems to be a combination of poor connection or excess background noise (driving in the car with radio off and windows up). Hoping if there is a way to stop it listening, it will have a higher success rate.
I also searh how to ???
On Wear with Google Now I just have to press on the micro icon to stop recognition but not find such feature on S-Voice, very, very.... annoying
I have been using Google Maps for some years but I never had this issue before I bought S7 -- the volume level of Google Maps' voice messages changes constantly. This happens like this: for example, 5-10 messages are played normally (according to the volume setting of the side buttons), and then couple consecutive ones can be played very very quiet. After that next messages can be played again louder with normal level. I never had problems like that using different models of phones (in particular, I used more than a year Moto X and never had anything like it). I am using Google Maps every day and I need it.
I changed the volume level in the application (Softer, Normal, Louder), I changed Text-To-Speech settings from Samsung TTS to Google TTS -- nothing helped me.
I found that some S8 users have the same issue. https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/google-maps-voice-volume-t3684299
But I would really like to solve that annoying problem. Has anyone else encountered a similar issue?
Is someone facing the same problem? As I use Google Maps every day this issue really disappoints me.
S22 ultra on verizon.
This started in the last two weeks. If I connect to bluetooth, either android auto in the car or a Jabra headset. Ok Google functions while using them, but as soon as disconnected does not work further. In fact it appears Google voice keyboard, google assistant, and google voice search simply cannot hear me. In each case the a amplitude lines do not move, as if I am being silent. If I turn off Bluetooth, and turn off voice matching, and wait some undetermined amount of time and turn voice match back on, on Google resumes responding. It seems like it is only listening for the disconnected Bluetooth connection not my microphone. However the microphone use indicator, green dot, does appear. If I make a phone call or use voice recorder the mic is working, just not in Google apps.
Again, this only happens after Bluetooth use, and only appears a problem in Google apps assistant, voice search, or Google keyboard.
Also, rebooting has no effect, so far its been 2 days since I was in the car and still not working.
and today i tried changing the language in google to no effect. Then i tried switching to bixby and still it did not indicate it could hear me. I turned off voice match, i cleared cache and data from the assistant app, i cleared data on the google app. I rebooted and cleared cache from the boot menu
i made 2 phone calls and both worked. I used the sound recorder app, that worked, but no app that uses background listening, even when they are in the foreground, indicates it can hear anything.
I've rebooted several times. and tonight, out of no where, just for the f of it I said "ok google" and it is working again and probably will until i connect to bluetooth again.ugh
Anyone have a suggestion for the next time this happens?
You have given permission to microphone access?
You want to ensure ok google is turned on in your Google settings.

Yep the little green mic access shows up each time.

It is, and it's enabled in Google voice typing and Google search, as well as Bixby.
So after working for 10 minutes last night, back to the same symptom ok google not responding, Google voice keyboard not hearing anything, voice search same, Bixby more of the same.
This seems like the issue I had with android auto where maps disappears because something was being put in deep sleep. F'ing Samsung. I don't need you to protect my battery so aggressively.
Anyone have a suggestion?
couldn't take it anymore so i wiped the phone and started over. It has happened twice since. it almost seems like if ok google has been triggered but nothing is asked of it, that breaks it. although i have had it connect up to android auto in the car once or twice in the last week so maybe it is still that. I have no idea.
When it wasn't working to say ok google in the car it can still be triggered with the steering wheel button, but if it is not connected to the car, trying to trigger it manually does not work, it will not "hear" when the mic is supposedly active. But phone calls and sound recorder work fine.
