It still leaves a lot to be desired. The basic modifications work but the biggest problem is the lack of undo/redo in onenote. I sometimes use it but most of the time resort to 3rd party apps (i.e. LectureNotes). In my opinion, the tech companies are indifferent to the problem and there is still no perfect solution for a paperless life. That being said, Note pro is the closest.

I use Onenote on my Note Pro 12.2 almost every day. I take pages and pages of notes. It is not as full featured as on Windows (I sold my SP3 to get this) but it is good enough and the effortless syncing to my office/home/laptop make it incredibly useful. Without sync, I would use one of the other options.
If you can pick up the i3 SP3 for a good price, it might be a better option if all you do is take notes or want a laptop replacement. I still prefer android as a tablet os so I made the switch from the SP3.

I've sent you a PM also..
I also used to use Note 8, but was a bit small for note taking at work so have been using 12.2 size now for some time. I think just like you, I want to get away from S Note app (am stuck bad) and start using One Note. One Note actually works fine.
My question is how did you transfer all the old S Notes to One Note? Did you use any option to Auto export to PDF in one go? or any other tool... ?
Thanks for your help.

Undo and edit - AND especially a share function! These things are REALLY missing.

It barely works for me. So slow synching and last time I tried to create a new note it went off for a minute and then said it had failed.

[Q] Note taking apps?

So I was thinking of buying this capacitive stylus: http://www.amazon.com/Acase-Capacit...aybook/dp/B003ULE6GU/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
But I was wondering if there are any decent note taking apps designed for use with a pen. Because if there aren't, it's kind of pointless, I don't think there's really anything else I would use the stylus for, except maybe drawing.
Thanks!
I'm not sure of a good app, but I do own this stylus. Once I get my Transformer tomorrow, I will let you know how well it works.
Not sure to what extent you plan to use notes, but I use "Note Everything Pro" and absolutely love it!

Handwritten notes
If you're talking about handwritten notes, some people from the xoom forum suggested handrite, check it out and tell me if it works with the transformer. There is a free version with ads. Also many users suggest get rid of the auto insert feature through the settings for the app and it becomes much more usable.
Amazon 1-click Order is dangerously easy. Just ordered it. I'll play around with the note taking apps and let you know what I find. Tablet's coming tomorrow, stylus should arrive on Tuesday.
I'm using flext9 it can be used as swipe which works faster than the one installed on the transformer and it also has a writing to text feature that's pretty cool.I take my notes on evernote which also has a share button to email/ share it to a computer. You can also create an account and sync your documents up to access anywhere.
I can't believe this, from the time since the beginning of Android to now, NO ONE has created a combinable Text & Handwriting note program.
Where is the app that lets you draw and type within the same note? This was possible in Windows Mobile, 10 years ago!!!
All the programs available seem to at best be able create drawing notes separately from typing note, WTF?

Hey dummy, read the post above yours.
I can confirm this. FlexT9 works great on the Transformer. It does an AWESOME-fast Swype style. Then it also has a handwriting-recognition mode that allows you to write within any app.
Screw note-taking apps, when you have a keyboard like this you don't need them.
The post above mine previous (#6) mentions two things:
FlexT9: an input method, not a program that supports scribble drawing & text notes
EverNote: an notes program, without any scribble drawing support
Care to enlighten me with your wisdom again?
+1 for flexT9, it is now my keyboard of choice too, much quicker than handwriting or typing in my opinion.
There is another note taking app called Tabnotes, currently under development. It looks very promising and could potentially be the killer notepad app. Works really well with handwriting with a stylus.
A trial is available on the market for you to try out, the program has been developed with tablets in mind.
At present you cannot use keypad entry, I have emailed the developer of the app for this function, we'll see what happens.
i am using writepad with Evernote and it works flawlessly. I was nervous because the writepad application cost $10. But if you go to the developers site you can test it free for24 hours.

OneNote Mobile

I have a need to be able to share my meeting notes in a corporate environment. S-Note is not very sharable, as it exports to only PDF and a propritery format. I have a need to be able to share notes between my office laptop (win7) and GN10.1, so that it makes it worth to take meeting notes on my gn10.1.
I stumbled across OneNote mobile
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.office.onenote&hl=en
Has anyone used this app extensively? Can you initially create a note from this app and then share it on win7 laptop and resume editing there?
I will definately also try this myself today.. but just looking to see if someone already had a glowing or damning feedback on this app.
try evernote

Okay, onenote can also use cloud sharing to share notes between tablet and office laptop.
Considering I already have onenote installed in my office machine, this may be a better option than evernote.

The official OneNote Mobile app is very limited. It will not allow you to ink on your tablet, and I have had trouble displaying ink/graphics as well. Additionally, I think it only syncs via SkyDrive, and does not cache the pages on your tablet, which means that you have to have an active internet connection to switch between pages or notebooks.
There is a competing OneNote app that is a lot more powerful, but costs $15. (EDIT: To be clear, this app syncs with Microsoft OneNote, but is not made by Microsoft.) I bit the bullet and bought it a week ago, and am very happy with it so far. It allows inking on my GNote, seems to display all pages exactly as they are seen on my PC (well the fonts maybe different, but it displays all pics/ink/text in the right relative size and location), and gives more sync options (Dropbox or SkyDrive or other cloud services or USB sync).
Its called MobileNoter. I bought the SE HD version and am loving it, and have not had any problems with loss of data that some of the reviews mention (be sure to read them!). Here is the link.

Thanks for the tip. seems like a good lead. I will download a trial version and work it out.
$15 is not too much to ask for if it's functional, good and compatible.
I hope microsoft does something about Onenote mobile... improves it
Maybe with win 8 tablets....

I agree that MS should offer a better OneNote mobile client. But maybe OneNote is going to finally be promoted as a flagship offering for windows pcs once the tablets come out?
On that note, and I am probably jinxing myself by writing about it, Lenovo just told me they are going to send me a free Windows 8 powered Thinkpad Tablet 2 to replace the crappy Android Thinkpad Tablet that has been in the shop for the 3rd time in less than a year, for over 2 months now. The rep told me that they can no longer source parts to build the brand-new TPT they promised me, so "would I mind" being upgraded to the Windows 8. I am pretty ecstatic at this possibility, as I have long loved Thinkpad Tablets running Windows but have often found them too costly...
Congrats! Mine is going back in for the 2nd time.

I used MobileNoter before MS released their official Onenote app and liked (like) it more than the Microsoft version. The only problem that I had with it was the need to run a mobilenoter sync app on the PC to sync my pages.

Maybe this is new since you used it- it can now be synced in several ways, including cloud services like Dropbox. I use Dropsync with Dropbox to fully cache my OneNote folder on my GNote, which then syncs both ways via Dropbox to my PC instance of OneNote. Works perfect so far.

Interesting, it may be worth giving it another try. Thanks
I also use Mobilenoter, SE on my Note 1 and HD on the 10.1. I generally create on a laptop and sync using FolderSync and Dropbox as the built-in sync always fails on some of my notebooks and the incremental sync never works (they are several hundred meg in size though)
Other than that I find it fantastic for viewing my notes. Once the Samsung keyboard comes out I'll be trying to create them on the note as well, in fact that is my primary reason for getting the tablet.

I use Onenote mobile and it is reliable and stable. Such a shame it does not handle inking on my 10.1 or it would be perfect. Sync is reliable and quick and my notes are large.
Mobilenoter is good but clunky to use and edit. Sync is very slow and unreliable so I use a separate notebook for inking on yhe go which I sync and use on a desktop and the kmport to my notes.

[Q] to Note or Not !

Hi All,
Having patiently waited for the Nexus 10 to be announced and now not being able to get 'hands on' time with one as yet in the UK, I'm seriously considering getting a Note 10.1.
Had a play with one in-store recently, I found it hard to put back down!, Love it!. I previously had the original Note put found I didn't use stylus that much because a thought the 5" screen was too small to anything useful, I now have a SGS3
I recently sold my nexus 7 only because I want a 10" daily driver mainly for reading my Magazines & Video on the commute to work, then productivity side is having the stylus for drawing house floor plans mainly and the odd sketches using adobe creative cloud, which I hope works on this device.
I know the Nexus 10 would be better for movies, but I would also like to read my magazines and tech documents without too much zooming / scrolling (as i had to on the nexus 7)
I'm edging towards the Note 10.1 and maybe even consider the 3G version (Or should I just tether to the SGS3?)
Which one shall I get?
its your preference bec if you buy a 3g you will need two 3g plans if you teeter you can do with one and save money I do not know the difference between the two over there but if it is much then no point
For me, the pen input forgives any shortcomings the Note has (build quality, screen res <= don't care too much anyways). So if you want the pen, you want the Note. Otherwise the Nexus 10.

^ This. But also, if you want more than 32GB of storage, you want the Note (since the N10 lacks memory expansion).
Well the screen is not as bad as the specs show and on the other hand N10 screen is not as good as specs show.

The Note is the most complete tablet on the market now and that includes W8 RT & Pro tablets. The latter beat it on productivity because of their MS Office access but lose big time on the consumption side. That is unless you think the kluged way you consume media on your current laptop/desktop is ideal.
When looking at other tablets ask yourself if these features mean anything to you:
- Multiview (enhanced in JB)
- Pop up play
- S-Pen/S-Note
- AllShare Play and Cast
- Enhanced camera features (smile/face/blink detection, buddy shot)
- Mini apps (enhanced in JB)
- Enhanced audio and video codec support
- IR port
- Browser h/w acceleration
- S-Voice (added in JB)
- Air View (added in JB)
- Group Cast (added in JB)
Video Air View – Preview videos without opening them. View future/past scenes in a playing video via the timeline without stopping it.
Photo Air View – Pictures contained in folders will display in thumbnails when you hover over the folder. They advance nine at a time.
E-Mail Air View – Hover the pen over a heading or contents of an e-mail summary (including via the widget) to see an exploded view of the contents without opening it.
S-Planner Air View – Hover the pen over an event or task to see an exploded view without opening it.
Pop Up Note – Tap the screen twice with the S-Pen button depressed and a pop up note will be displayed. Even on the lock screen when the device is locked. On the N8000, if you’re in a call and remove the S-Pen from its holder, a pop up note automatically opens.
Easy Clip – Capture anything on the display (lasso) anywhere and save it to the clipboard or send it an application (including S-Note).
Draw/Write on an e-mail – As it says.
Draw/Write in S-Planner – As it says (Month View only)
Color Picker – In S-Note, set the ink color to a color selected from a picture.
Pen Switch – Select multiple pen types (color, texture, weight) and toggle through them without opening the menu by pressing the button on the S-Pen once.
Sketch Affect – Change any picture to an outline, color sketch, pencil sketch and more from within S-Note.
Share S-Notes – Convert S-Notes to plain text, PDFs, or pictures and share them via Facebook etc. in one step.
Photo Note – Write personal notes on the back of photos
Gallery Organizer – Create folders and drag and drop pictures between them.
I've had the Note since it was launched and wouldn't be able to move to a tablet that didn't offer some of those features. Good or bad, Samsung's done so much to the Note s/w wise that it's more "Samsung" than "Android."
As for the 3G, personally, I wouldn't have a tablet without it. Tethering is a pain in the ass. Pull out phone, turn on Wi-Fi sharing, connect tablet, disconnect tablet, turn off Wi-Fi sharing. Forget the last step and you're phone's battery is toast. It's toast anyway based on the additional power draw. And when a tablet's always connected you don't have to wait several minutes for it to sync to be usable as is the case for a Wi-Fi tablet reconnecting after being offline. The Note's also a full-fledged phone and with its mammoth battery its the device I use for long conference calls. All my accounts are replicated on my phone and tablet. If I have to respond to a long e-mail I'll pick-up the Note. Something short like MMS I'll use the phone. To me, it's really nice to have that option of picking the right tool so easily. I guess in the end it depends on your wallet and the cost of 3G access.
The only area where the Note gets dinged is the lack of a FHD display and I honestly wish it had one. But, as others have said too, the stuff listed above outweighs that.
Thanks guys, I just picked up the 10.1 wifi after work and playing with now!.

I totally agree. The pen is great, I was on the fence about it also, to the point I cancelled my order, but it arrived anyway so I played with it and now there is no way I am sending it back. I use it mainly at work the large screen is not ideal for at home I still find the nexus 7 better for bed and toilet times so in that aspect the note 10.1 is the best solution for my needs, also the latest video from Samsung makes the next update even more to my liking.

As far as tethering goes, use Bluetooth tethering, not WiFi hostspot. It's much more battery friendly, and has the benefit of being overridden by default if a known wifi network pops in range of the tablet. I never actually disable tethering on my phone.
Get the Note 10.1. The Nexus 10 OS, surprisingly, isn't as mature and stable nor as versatile. I'm leaning towards returning the Nexus 10 at this point mainly for laggy hdmi out, lockup just browsing with Chrome and on top of that lightbleed. I'm sure the Nexus 10 will mature with another update or two but by then there will probably be new products from Samsung, etc. and the Nexus 10 might drop in price and/or get upgraded. If it was my only tablet I might hang on to it and wait for it to mature but since it's not I'm not not beta testing.
I got mine Tuesday, still using just my fingers with it and still browsing using my phone.
Need to get the hang of the pen but I love using it with sketchbook.
Really alot to discover about the note, so much more than any reviewing sites say about it and don't think Samsung really promoted it very well as nobody really knows what it can do until you have a scout through youtube.
I bought mine cause all I basically knew about it that it has a great pen and the note is very responsive, there wasn't really any information about it and some of the reviews really were bad and can't believe they're talking about the same tablet.
No wonder people are weary about buying one.
Really don't blame them.
I for one love the note

I think we're witnessing a redefinition of the Nexus program and it doesn't appear XDA'rs are too fond of it. Rather than a development test bed for propeller heads, with the N4/7/10, Google's turning Nexus in to a full fledged "brand." And from the pricing it's aimed at value-oriented mainstream consumers and to create sales volume. There's a lot of "stuff" in their new devices and the specs look fantastic but if you read any of their forums there were compromises made. And at $299/$199/$399 each I guess we shouldn't be surprised. Looked at purely on "value" all three devices are pretty impressive. The N7 sort of stands alone because it competes with the KF and the like which is a relatively low bar. The N4 has some excellent high-end competition and has quite a few weaknesses compared to them. The N10 competes as much with the iPad as other Android tablets so all the h/w and s/w niggles along with some (shocking for Samsung) QC issues isn't a good start. If I didn't need/want the Note's features (and 3G) I'd still buy it over any other Android tablet though.
The main reason I would choose the Note 10.1 over the Nexus 10 is the ability to multi view apps, mostly in Jelly Bean. That does it for me!
For me it's the memory... I use the internal memory for apps, ebooks and music... I seem to be running out pretty quick, and I got the 32gb 3g note 10.1, the 64gb sd card is almost full so having no expansion is a serious deal killer for me... I want to see if the note 10.1 can handle a 128gb sd card but unfortunately we don't have 128gb in micro sd format, yet...

Moleskine Journal

Hello everyone, Moleskine Journal app is finally released on Samsung Apps ( I only found it available on Spain's app market for now) and supposedly it is going to be exclusively on Samsung devices for 6 months. It might not replace S Note or Lecturenotes for everyone, but I found it to be quite handy and useful for quick sketches/notes. I'm a big fan of Moleskine and been waiting for this app since it was announced in August. Hope you guys will like it.

Moleskine Journal for the Note 10.1 and Landscape mode
Thanks silverbladef
Upon reading your post I've seen that actually in Samsung apps (Spain) there is it, but only selecting as device the Note and the Note2 and not the Note 10.1.
Hopefully there would be soon a slightly different "tablet" version of the app since, it seems to me, the one for the Note works only in portrait mode and a tablet user should be able to work in landscape mode too, as it can be seen in this document by Moleskine.

It might not replace S Note or Lecturenotes for everyone, but I found it to be quite handy and useful for quick sketches/notes. I'm a big fan of Moleskine and been waiting for this app since it was announced in August. Hope you guys will like it.

Thanks, works great.
thankyou!
Amazing ! I Know it's no S Note but amazing to have
It seems to be a special Samsung version that requires touchwiz to work.
Does fc when opening on CM10 based rom.
Update
The app has been updated to v1.1 and now it is compatible with the Note 10.1 (portrait mode included.) I tried to search for it in the Samsung App Store but no results came up, so you have to go to the "Best S Pen Apps" section and you should be able to see it there.

Great! Thanks silverbladef for the heads up!
The new version (1.1) is finally usable with the GNote 10.1 as it can work in both portrait and landscape mode.
I've tried it (for about half an hour) and my first impression is that there's very great potential but also some work to do... (see "cons" later in this post).
Yet I find it the most simple and effective note taking app amongst the ones I've tried so far.
It has almost all of the essential tools I judge as important and necessary for a S-Pen enabled tablet and some more.
Some of them are:
Free hand pen writing with pressure sensitivity.
Quick commands to change the pen/brush/pencil size/color/transparency
Text box insertion (and editing function at a later time)
Quick tool to free-hand select part of the ink writing or some text box to copy or move it to another position.
Quick way to use image/ink writing or text clips saved in "the pocket" to use them later, also in a different notebooks (this feature is rather unique for note taking apps and could be very useful for some type of usage!).
Some of the cons I've found so far:
There's still some excessive lag in opening the notebooks, in executing some commands and in navigating through pages.
Lack of some custom settings.
Automatic saving process is not fully reliable (i.e. even if almost always the notebook is automatically saved on exit, in some cases during the tests I've made, it wasn't saved and I haven't seen a command to manually save it...)
To summarize I think that the app needs some more testing and streamlining to be used with a 10.1 tablet, but, if the developer goes on to work on and improve it, it will probably soon become one of the best note taking apps (together with my presently favorite one that's LectureNotes).
What I liked most is the ratio between the effectiveness of the available tools and the simplicity of the UI and of the settings.
Yet to improve further the app I think that some few settings should be addedd (i.e. to create custom pens/brushes, to set the pressure sensitivity level or to create more custom templates).
I agree with you. As a big fan of Moleskine, this app probably would never replace S Note for me. I use it if i wanted to sketch or write something quickly with the same feel of the physical journals I posses of. It needs a lot of improvements to be done, a better reliable back up system, and autosaving for sure. One thing I noticed is the pencil/pen setting always defaults to a thicker kind of pen and I have to readjust it every time I open a notebook, frustrating.
I really hope they continue to develop this app, but it has some serious issues. It is soooo SLOW! When a page has any significant amount of writing or drawing on it, it takes ages to load the page, or switch to a new page in a book. It must be storing all the lines as vectors, because even after erasing all the lines with the eraser tool, the page still takes forever to load. Even with a blank book, it takes a couple of seconds to switch to a new page.
The color picker lets you choose a transparency value for a brush, but it doesn't work except for the marker tool, but only if you change transparency, and then adjust brush size.
With a graph paper book, switching from landscape to portrait will mess up the graph paper and make it not square. You have to re-select the graph paper background again to get it back to normal.
The brush size will reset itself when switching from landscape to portrait.
When doing small details or letters at a medium to slow speed, they are automatically deleted.
I like the idea of this app, but right now it really stinks, usability-wise, I'm surprised they released it in its current state.
password problem
Since the update my password doesn't work and I can't open any password protected books. Anyone else have this? Any way of getting into the book?

Handwriting looks terrible on Xiaomi Pad 5 and OneNote - Workaround?

Hello together and thanks in advance for any answer!
So im kinda clueless on how to solve the following problem:
I got a Xiaomi Pad 5 (Global Version) and the original Xiaomi "Smart" Pen. I do a lot of handwritten notes in OneNote. And theres the problem, handwriting in the official OneNote App looks horrible. It seems like the pen correction is disabled in this app, but im not sure about that.
I tried every possible setting in OneNote, but none of them was helpful. So i tried to find a option in the developer settings to force every app to use the pen correction, but wasnt able to find one.
In every other app i tried, the handwriting looks just fine - even in the browser version of OneNote (which is a pain to use btw).
Maybe some of u got a good idea on how to solve this problem?
I know that this problem exists on every Pad 5. I had a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite before, the handwriting there was also kinda bad in OneNote, but by far not that horrible as i can remember.
I attached a sample picture. The upper line is written in the OneNote App, the lower line is written in the browser.
Did you solved it? I'm having the same problem
