[q] soft or maybe hard brick - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted using CF Auto root
flashed cwm
launched cwm
it said - root permission lost
i googled
i re rooted by manually flashing SuperUservxx.xx.zip via cwm
now i am stuck on the 4 dots animation
i factory reset
still nothing
now stuck in 4 dots
i reboot
it just reboots, doesnt do to boot loader
please help !

Well you're not bricked. But you probably have to flash the factory image and wipe your device to get it working again. Start by dirty flashing a rom.zip in cwm. Doesn't matter which one.

Not that this is particularly relevant, but a brick is a brick. There is no real thing called a soft brick. Brick means the phone can not be used as intended and can only be repaired by the manufacturer / Service Centre. Whether it partially boots or not, is not a distinction that needs to be made and does not identify a hard or soft brick. It's either bricked or not.

[Q] Skyrocket does not go through with boot animation.

Hi guys,
I went into rom manager today and tried to get a new font. After I did the backup(it told me to), I installed the font and it went into my home screen and just sat there. I got frustrated at waiting, and pulled the battery out. When I tried turning it on again, my phone is stuck at the at&t rethink possible sign. I tried going into recovery mode, but it just vibrates continuously. Can anyone help me?
which recovery r u on
can u get into dl mode, if yes just flash a new recovery, howto is in my sig
does it vibrate and/or bootloop booting into android, or is it still stuck at logo
If it's vibrating, it's probably a soft brick. Put it into download mode and restore to stock, then put the same recovery you had back onto the phone and restore the Nandroid you made before messing around with system files. You did make a Nandroid immediately before messing with system files so that recovering from a soft brick would be a breeze, right? If you didn't, all of your apps and data are gone. Tough lesson to learn, but it's better than a hard brick.
If you can't get yourself into download mode, well, yeah, it's a hard brick for all intents and purposes. JTAG or warranty. Either way, anything not on the external SD is gone.
To reiterate: messing with system files, such as fonts, is inherently risky. Clearly, you're now aware of this. Any time you intend to modify a system file or flash anything, do a Nandroid backup first. Even the best of us have had random soft brick moments, and a fresh Nandroid makes it easy to bring our phone back after using Odin to restore to stock and clear the bootloop.

[Q] Noot booting after restore

Well, I think I may be in trouble here.
I set out to completely restore my N8010 to the stock UK firmware but unfortunately I ran into some few problems.
I read an article (this one) on how to restore a Note 10.1 back to factory settings letter by letter and I'm now stuck on the Samsung logo.
I did run into a problem however. When I was using Odin putting the files onto the device I brilliantly got a power cut. Not thinking much of it, when I got my power back, I tried again using Odin and it said it worked but now I'm trying to boot up it's not. Anyone have any troubleshooting hints?
I used the same page for instructions. The same thing happened to me- got stuck on Samsung logo. What I did (at your own risk of course) was to boot into recovery mode. Then clear cache then did factory reset then restart. Worked but wipes all data. Then reboot and voilĂ  it booted completely.

[Q] Can't boot into system- need help

Hi,
My HTC one mini has an unlocked bootloader, TWRP installed and S-off (i don't know if this will help)
I was trying to flash cyanogenmod 11 on my device via TWRP however it said that it had failed. Then when i rebooted my phone it showed the HTC logo but after a couple of seconds, the screen went black. Then the HTC logo popped up again, however, my phone had just booted back into my recovery.
I have tried to solve this by factory reseting however this did nothing, i have flashed a backup i had saved to my computer (that was saved by ROM manager) however there was no change, and i have switched off several times however i always end up in the TWRP recovery. I can boot into the bootloader but from there, i still can't get to the normal system.
This is a big problem as i can't find anything else on the internet that describes this problem and i think that my phone could be bricked. I can't access my apps or anything else. I don't think it is a bootloop as I can't even see the security screen and i don't have the option of entering my password which has happened in the past as it always goes straight to the recovery.
If anyone had any advice on what to do i would really appreciate it as I really need help!
Thanks
Seems you have no os loaded. I'm not sure why your backup does not work. I had an issue flashing cm11 originally, kept failing. Did you wipe data, cache and all and retry your backup again?

Nexus 5 not turning on!

Hi all,
My phone recently randomly turned itself off, after which it was halting on the coloured circles part of the bootup whenever I tried to turn it on.
I tried going to fastboot -> recovery -> "wipe data/factory reset" but it got stuck on "erasing data".
I then gave the phone to a developer at work, who tried to load up a stock ROM on the phone....however that failed and now it does not turn on at all!
Does anyone know what is wrong here or could suggest a way for me to fix this?
I am concerned that by trying to load the ROM on the phone that the warranty would have been voided.
Many thanks,
FrustratedNexusUser
If you only tried to load the factory image on the device the warranty would not be voided. If the bootloader was unlocked it might have been. It sounds like a hardware failure to me. If it doesn't boot no one could tell if the bootloader was unlocked

[Completed] Gionee p52 Bootloop

I bought my phone about 3 months ago (Gionee p5w) and i had no custom roms installed. Yesterday i saw that there is a system update available. I think i rooted my phone using king root(not sure of version). Update on my phone wouldnt install... so i factory reset without clearing the phone memory thats when problem arised, nothing was reset except the text size setting. So i thought of going into factory mode to reset my phone and started phone with vol up and power key pressed . Factory mode didnt show up and now i am stuck in a bootloop. It shows bootloader logo and restarts again and again. I cant even go to normal mode and start my phone. I remember booting into factory mode when i bought it. Please help me fix it

Hello & welcome to xda-assist,
first of, we don't provide technical support here our job is to direct you through the boards here on xda-developers.
When you root your phone system updates will cause serious problems if you don't unroot before and revert all changes on system partition. So bootloop was expected to happen.
Only cure for that would be to reflash your phone's firmware, to find A) the appropriate firmware for your phone model and B) lern how to flash on your phone I would suggest you to visit this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help
and
Do a basic Google search on "your phone model + firmware" and "how to flash stock rom on your phone model"
Good luck
