Non android developer here..
Very familiar with adb and the 'nix command line..
I run Textra as my SMS/MMS application.
This program has no way to limit the amount of saved messages.
I just backed up and restored almost 10k messages.. from my whatever count contacts..
I am looking for how I would parse the messages db and keep the last 200 or whatever messages in each contact.
If I were to use a different sms app, it would invoke the limit -when- I sent a message or -when- I received a message from them.
Not looking to send a message to everyone saying "Trimming my database. Please do not respond. Thanks."
Thank you in advance.

I get alot of text messages from some people and my partner would like to be able to intercept those messages so he can have a copy of them on his Wizard. How would he go about doing that?
You want all you SMS messages forwarded to another phone?
think he want to set rules for which ones are forwarded
Your "partner" can't intercept them.. But you can do one of two things..
Either create a program intercepting all incoming SMS'es, always forwarding them to him. You could append the sender phonenumber in the body of the sms or something so he'll know who it is from..
The other thing you could do .. is write a client/server app, so when you get an sms, it's intercepted and posted to a homepage/server you have.. Your partner could have a clientversion which regurarly synchronizes the data from the server and adds them to the cemail.vol file.. making it seem that he ha got the sms aswell..
Another thing again .. you could just make another app which sends the incoming sms as an email to your partner.. Many ways to do this.. but he can not intercept them.. you have to forward them either as an SMS, Email or pure data via a server solution you code/develop...

he can also make a program which only intercept sms's from a list of phone numbers or where surden texts or char's are present
but the program would need to run all the time and periodicly check for new sms's
i would like a program to reject sms messages or mms messages by phone number like i was able to do with my old phone.

I think I'll just go with the first suggestion. Thanks!
MOD EDIT:
this is obviously illegal.
lets move this discussion to the Q&A section

Hey all. Nearly 2 years have gone by since the last post in this thread and I know technology changes over time. I've done some reading about intercepting SMS/text messages but I was wondering if there are now any other ways to do this.
I want to be able to intercept text messages sent and received from one particular CDMA mobile phone number, or to have them forwarded to me without the person's knowledge. I don't have physical access to this person's phone, but if it helps I do have their ESN/MEID for their device.
I'm not so worried about intercepting phone calls or anything. I can get close enough to the user's phone though to be on the same cell tower as them if needed in order to intercept or have the SMS messages forwarded to me.
Are their any options for making this possible without direct access to this particular device? I understand the idea behind copying the identity of the target phone using a SIM card, but again, I don't have physical access to the phone in order to do that. Thanks!

Guys,
Isn't this illegal? You're literally asking to be the NSA or the government, snooping information without the person's information or consent?
Spying on a significant other?
Cheers.
good point. didn't read the last post.
Hey guys, I am looking for a good AIM program that uses SMS and not data. Free would be awesome too if possible. Thanks guys.
I tried OZ Messenger but for some reason it won't intercept the incoming text message saying that it signed on. Like it will send the text message to the user and not the program, so the program does not acknowledge that it has signed onto AIM through SMS.
Isn't this how AIM Mobile works?

Check out IM Forwarding and IM to Mobile options. Both of these use SMS messages. AIM Express uses a net connection (so thats not what you are wanting).
A number of people I work with (with basic phones) use IM Forwarding and IM to Mobile and they receive and send messages to AIM contacts via SMS.
There may be better solutions, but I do know these work.

I use IM FORWARDING, I wish there was a program that you could just save your buddylist to and send text to their screen name.
There's a certain format you can type to send from your phone to a screen name.
http://www.aim.com/wireless/pdfs/vzw/AIM_SMS_UG_freeup.pdf
here's a good read.
Just create a new contact with their name and their IM under the IM category. It will send the message to their IM address but you won't be able to tell if they're online.
to sign on
send a text message to number 4646 - in your text message type SCREENAME(space)PASSWORD example bobster PaS$W0rd111
to sign off
send a blank text message to number 4647 to sign off
get you buddy list
send a text message to 4650 - in your text message type list
to get the number associated with the buddy
send a text to 4653 - in your text message type help
beware - it sends a list of 7 buddies per text. So if you have 140 screen names on your list, expect 20 text messages.
to send a instant message to someone from your buddylist
send a text to the number associated with their number
to send a instant message to an unlisted screen name
send a text message to 4654 - in your text message type SCREENAME: (space) message example bobster: hello
Do you find yourself sending the same SMS messages often and to the same recipient(s)? Then this is the app for you. Quick SMS is designed so it should be easy to send messages that you send often. You can preconfigure messages and recipients, so when you need to quickly send a message, you just choose a recipient and a message and press send.
I have made an app that solves this, you can find it her..:

Just thought you should now...

I need to send batch texts occasionally/frequently. I run a business which most people send me a text to set up an appointment. By the nature of the business, most are not return customers, I fix a problem that they have and they hope to never have to use my services again and so I don't save them to my contacts. I do however like to send a follow up type message a few days later.
Currently I use Handcent SMS. I have the follow up text saved as a quick text and I go through and search all of the people that I have done business with during the week. I then one by one send them the text. This can take a while since I may need to send the message to 30 or more people. I want to be able to search all of my texts and just check box the ones that I want to send the message to and then select the quick text and send it.
Batch mode with handcent currently is just really batch delete mode. There are a few multi-text programs out there that can send one text to a group or you can select from your contacts, but none that I have found that you can look at your inbox and just check box the ones you want to reply to.
Wow. Crickets. That all I can hear.
Is there really nothing that can do what I need?
I've lost my draft message on a Samsung S7 today.
When I get ideas, concepts, I tend to type it in the default "messages" app and send it to myself. However for the past couple of days, I’ve been accumulating it.
Today instead of sending the accumulated text to myself. I created a new text message and send it to my own number.
This overrides my personal inbox and removes the draft. Is there anyway that I can retrieve the draft from perhaps android’s draft, delete, text, message, bin folder?
Am willing to go to the ends of the earth to retrieve it back.
Thanks a million!!
I don't think we can recover draft messages because when you created a new messages draft, you have overwritten the message instead of deleted an existing message.
