[Q] Flash stock RUU but remove hboot and recovery from the image ?

Is it possible to flash a stock rom on s-off ( alpharevx ) device by removing the hboot and recovery image from the package on the Desire S, or the stock rom will force check if all components from the package are present and deny installation ?
On the Alpharev 1.8 website it says that this is possible for the original desire.
I assume that if this was 100% possible the alpharev team would already provided it as a solution but i thought i'd still ask about it.

I like what your saying in theory and can't see why it shouldn't work...although never done anything like this myself........
Well never mind, I just cooked my own rom from the original RUU.
Thanks for the reply.
Reason was that i had to check file permissions on rooted and nonrooted clean rom because of some small anomalies found by enabling superuser.

Playing with Hboot and Fastboot in this way is VERY dangerous and can easily lead to a brick, unless you know what your doing leave well alone.

need T-MOB101 RUU / other option to restore bootloader

I need to put my phone back to stock for warranty (no more touchscreen)...
What I did was to go s-off via Juopunutbear S-OFF NO VOID WARRANTY ROOT, installed clockwork-mod and rooted - never left stock ROM.
So factory reset is not a problem - but I need to restore bootloader.
From what I read the way to go ist to flash RUU - but I can not find the one I need:
3.32.111.11
Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Or is there another way of flashing back only bootloader?
many thx!
Download the stock RUU from this thread, you will have to scroll down to "3) If You wish to download the ICS TMOUS RUU" and click on either of the links for it.
thx - but this is 3.32.531.14 and for the 4G (I have a german T-Mobile Sensaiton) - or am I not getting how to only restore bootloader part?

No that is my bad I thought you were needing the T-Mobile US stock ROM. I think you will have to flash back to the stock Gingerbread ROM (look here for it). But if your touch screen is not working you may not be able to flash the OTA for ISC after you use the RUU. You can try this post form this thread. The thread is on the T-Mobile Poland OTA and the post I linked has a download for it. Remember you will have to flash the stock recovery, download it from here.
well.. maybe I am mixing things up here
version-bootloader: 1.27.0000
I never flashed any bootloader? 'recovery' is the menu I get in to with vol- + power? and is a seperate flash?
Then this would be the only thing I need to change back and then go s-on again?
Stock ROM is still on my device...
Is this correct?

Well If you are not rooted and you have not flashed a custom kernel you might be okay to just flash the stock recovery back and then S-on your device. But I highly recommend you flash either a RUU or the OTA update before you use " fastboot oem writesecureflag 3" to GO back to S-on. If you do not there is a chance you will soft brick your device and have to use the "Unbricking Project" to unbrick your device.
ok - this might sound paranoid - but doing OTA with same device a 2nd time would just be like saying 'yeah - I've been flashing...' / and as you say, OTA will not be possible without touchscreen
I would like to go 'stock recovery' but the link you posted 380MB must be more than that - or is there a 'recovery.img' within there somewhere? (Can't be flashing a polish ROM...)
thx

As long as you have the correct stock ROM on your device, no matter if it is Gingerbread or ICS , and you are not S-off. It does not matter if you have been flashing. I think Samsunge is the only OEM with Flash counters in thier devices. Do this so it can make this for me. Post all your device info here for me. Rom version, firmware version, radio, device model ID, your CID, and kernel. This is the stock Gingerbread ROM for you, "RUU_Pyramid_TMO_DE_1.45.111.2_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01". The TMO_DE is what tells me that as that is the T-Mobile code for Germany. The Recovery I linked you to cam straight from the T-Mobile US stock Gingerbread Recovery and is the same exact link that is in this thread because it is hosted from my Dev Host account.
well - I was trying to figure out if recoveries were compatilbe / interchangable if I could only flash recovery_signed.img from the older RUU or a different 3.32 RUU
then again - why risk it - I flashed 1.45.111.2
I thinks its not very likely I never did the OTA - but who is going to prove otherwise right?
THX - phone will be swapped tomorrow...

[GUIDE] Back to Stock ICS for k2u & k2ul with S-Off

Back to Stock ICS for k2u & k2ul with S-Off
Hi there, as there are different news, we will get one more major update, there is a need to get back to the stock rom, cause otherwise the update will fail. Or maybe you want to sell your device or need to return for warranty, so you also need a stock phone.
And there is nothing more stock out there, than a RUU. But as we have no Jelly Bean RUU, we need to get the ICS RUU running to downgrade hboot first!
So we provide here an almost easy way to go to this condition and you only have to follow these steps, but do it careful, cause we need to downgrade hboot for that and this is very dangerous for your phone, if you are doing something wrong!
This guide is provided to you, with the help of Matlevo12, who made the files you need for downgrading hboot and tested the way. So give him a thanks for it!
This only works for "free" phones (unbranded) or if you have Supercid.
Credits:
- kmdm for his ruuveal
- Matlevo12 for creating and testing the "downgrade files"
- rollon76 & Jmz for suggestions

Notice:
- This guide is for european k2u & k2ul. Don't do this on other HTC One SV devices, this will brick your phone.
- Be careful and download the correct file, check the md5 sum to get sure, the download is not corrupted.
- Make a backup of important files, before you do this, they are lost afterwards!
- This will not reset your CID, if you have changed it to SuperCID. So if you have SuperCID, follow this guide to change it back before you doing this! Your phone must be unbranded then.

Don't do this, if you are not experienced enough for it. You will do this on your own risk and we are not responsible for bricked devices!!!
Requirements:
- a phone with S-Off -> yes, you need S-Off (if you don't have it, look here for ICS and there for JB to get it.)
- the correct file for downgrading hboot
- the correct RUU for your device
- some time and coffee and some knowledge about fastboot commands

Download:
(be sure to download the right files for your device!)
For k2u (without LTE):
- k2uhbootdowngrade(renametoPL80IMG.zipbeforeuse).zip --> for downgrading hboot
md5 sum: 8b4ad0f238c5857367d4e074450b2262
- ICS RUU for k2u

For k2ul (with LTE):
- k2ulhbootdowngrade(renametoPL80IMG.zipbeforeuse).zip --> for downgrading hboot
md5 sum: 44f4acc65d299d8aa5b0da533515e421
- ICS RUU for k2ul

Click to collapse
How to:
To downgrade hboot:
1.) Download the fitting zip file for your device
2.) Rename the file to PL80IMG.zip
3.) Copy it to your sdcard (external not internal)
4.) Reboot into bootloader and hit volume up when prompted
Click to collapse
You maybe need to go to Settings -> Power first and untick the Fast boot (scroll down, last point on the page) that you can boot into bootloader!
To boot into bootloader:
If your phone is off, you need to power on & hold vol- at the same time.
Now the hboot should be downgraded to hboot 1.0 and most tricky part is done.
To flash RUU:
5.) Reboot your phone and connect it to pc
6.) Run the downloaded RUU.exe (you maybe have to start it as administrator) and follow the steps provided by HTC
If the RUU won't flash, relock your bootloader with fastboot cmd:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Click to collapse
After the RUU was running through you have stock ICS boot.img, recovery and system files installed. You are still S-Off, but with a "*** LOCKED ***" bootloader.
If you wanna get S-On, follow now step 7.) & 8.).
If you wanna update, now you can restart your phone and search for updates. Install one by one (first will be the jb updates) until you don't get update offers anymore.
If you want to get your device S-On:
7.) Connect your phone to pc and boot into fastboot mode.
8.) Open fastboot command window on your pc and type the following command:
Code:
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
Click to collapse
Now you should be S-On.
Help

It is normal to use just a little leg and can't flash rom.
How should I do now?
Thanks much.
When do you get that cid error ?
What cid are you ?
my CID is Orange1 or something similar, can I still use this method to be able to get myself an unbranded version of JB on the device?
Conan_troutman :
Well no, use the "unbrand your phone..." guide in the same section.
I think this only work for "free" phones or if you have supercid.

At first, I must say that my English is not good enough, sorry.
Downgrade just for 2 way recording, because I need this function very much on the business. When 4.0.4, it's ok, but update to 4.1.2 it is unable to use.
Now, my phone can also be used, but not smooth.
How to unbrand it (sorry, Idon't understand what does branded mean) or what Ican do now?
Dear Matlevo12, Thanks very much.
S-off and RUU update went smooth but I no longer can enter Recovery menu. It shows an exclamation mark surounded by red triangle.
k2ul unbranded phone here and used RUU update file acording to my phone model.
Which S-off?
I upgraded to JB and want to bring ICS back. Old.splatterhand, you said we need S-off so which one do I need please?
Thanks a lot for sharing! :good:
As you are on JB you must use Moonshine S-off.

Pure JB Rom, Kernel, Recovery, etc.
I got the JB stock Rom, Kernel, Recovery, etc. Just got to place it on your external sdcard. Its completely fresh without touching it. Just like you gotit from the box. This is for k2_cl, it may work for others but not tested. Need atleast 1.02 gigs available on external sdcard. Once placed there just boot into custom recovery. I used TWRP and I recommend it. Not a fan of CWM. Once in recovery just click on restore then select the pure JB folder. It comes with MD5 files so be sure to check the verification box so when doing this it will confirm its integrity prior to proceeding further. After verification it will proceed on and wipe everything out as it restores. Then reboot. Keep in mind that this is a fresh 4.1.2 JB stock. You will lose root but you can easily get it back by downloading supersu on Google play. Voila. Will have to upload tonight then will share resource on here. Once available have at it. I don't request credit for it or anything. Just want it out there for people who messed there phone up or failed to get a copy for themselves.
There are already copies of this for k2_cl in old.splatterhand's thread in original android development

Better would be S-Off, but yes, you should be able to flash a rom with this.
But don't forget to flash boot.img from your rom with fastboot, every time you flash a new rom.

Thanks, but I can't find any rom for my region, icm:HTC_J15. Could you give me a link to download a rom for my region ?
Don't mix it with official updates from HTC!
A (custom) rom is made not by HTC, this you can use.
A update by HTC don't have a rom.zip inside.
A RUU has a rom inside, but this is cid related.
So better clarify, what you are searching or what you want to do!

Your phone must have android running, then you can try rumrunner.us

Hi,
I used rumrunner.us and now my device is S-OFF. Therefore I must be able to flash other roms after changing my cid and hboot version. Is it right ?
And another question is,
I've flashed Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip and superuser.apk has been installed but those programs that want to get root access, can't do this like Root Explorer, and in RootValidator as you can see in the picture below, shows "Root was denied to this app!", and from ADB I can to get root access, but why programs don't have any root access ?
Thanks.

Depends on, if we are talking about official HTC roms/updates or custom roms. For custom roms you usually don't need to change CID.

You should use SuperSu, because i'm not sure that Superuser is still in development (especially for newer Android versions).
Grab the zip file here and flash in recovery (should also remove Superuser you have already flashed).

Thanks old.splatterhand

S-on is a simple fastboot command.
But that way you don't get stock system.
Easiest way if you are S-off is a hboot downgrade and running a RUU.
For that i made a guide, look into my index thread.

You have a branded phone. That means, you need a backup (from yourself or maybe someone else) with the exactly same software number to get the next update. It does not help to flash a free, stock rom.
Or, you debrand your phone, with supercid, hboot downgrade and RUU (which means losing data).
The choice is yours...

A nand backup in recovery is a "must".
For userdata the app you need is Titanium Backup!
