I would disable the messaging app completely so it's not using any RAM and download evolve sms. It's got a crazy quick, smooth, and efficient UI.Looks great. Themes available. A lot of editing options, and handles MMS better than stock or other apps.
I use Textra and you can change the colors.

Searched, and found some themes for WM default SMS but nothing for the HTC messaging.
I like the HTC messaging, but the default is all grey and is not easy to see at a glance the conversation between myself an the other party. Is there any theme or tweats available?

+1 to that, i've searched but did not find nothing in the phone, no picture, no registry to indicate htc messages location or themes. it would be cool to have colored bubbles or something nice and plesant to view.

The messages between you & the others kinda have the same background.
Hope there's like an alternate background color with gray & dark gray or customize your own color background.

Updated to 2.2 and hated the stock messaging app so i made the jump to Handcent and was wondering if there was any way to change the color of the text entry box from the tan background to a white one. I know its just a little thing but i think it would help the app look much cleaner.

Yes you can, settings>bubble settings. Just play around with it and you will figure it out.
Yeah i have been playing around with it all afternoon, and looked at every single menu item in the settings and just cant find it..
I haven't found the option for the text entry box. What I found was that when you have the iphone skin you can change the theme to black which turns the text entry box to more of a grey colour. I preferred this but I wish that you could have a custom colour
Could you just edit the color of the window in the .apk or theme the app itself? I found a thread on another forum where someone themed the app itself to make the text entry window white as well as look more like the stock messaging app

I have a really nice dark MIUI theme running on my CM7.1 RC1 and I really like the notification icon that is displayed for the stock messaging app when i get SMS/MMS. However, i also use ChompSMS and for some strange reason, the CM7 theme doesn't display the same notification icon for ChompSMS. The stock ChompSMS icons look really bad (no offense) and almost ruin my theme. Anyway, I have the latest ChompSMS apk (5.15) and the png file of the desired notification icon. My question is, can anyone either:
1. Teach me how to customize the notification icon for ChompSMS.
2. Or at least do it for me
The first is more preferable but hey, both will do just fine.
I have uploaded both the files, hopefully i won't get any trouble beacuse ChompSMS is free!

Well i search in this forum for a 2.3 Mms.apk with Bubbles Spech option but i dont find anyone :S searching google i find a Mms.apk with emoji emerge integrated (need the font instaled to see) and nice bubbles spech option!
If anyone can change the color of the sender bubble (not the white) to a gray or black, and supress the emoji integration for a lite version will be batter!

You could get the GOSMS app. from the market and change it yourself in about two seconds. Also, the emoji plugin specific to that is downloadable and usually listed right bleow it.
GOSMS has a ton of themeing options built right into it. If you have not checked it you might want to. It inherintly has the ability to do what you need. Hope this helps at all.

I have been trying to find the code for setting a kik messenger background image. I have tried editing the apk file however that does not work, as the background is set to a solid color. Even when putting in the code to add an image it does not work, the application just force closes or the picture never loads.
Can any one, or has anyone successfully added an image background to kik messenger chats?
Please assist if you can, I have been searching for a way to do this forever!

The only way I have been able to change the backround is having a custom theme with the picutre you want for the kik app. I know that the cm blacked out theme turns the backround black as well. You could try making your own theme and applying the picture you'd like in the theme so it would be applied in kik, but to do that you need a rom that supports custom themes. Hope this helps!

Thanks Olycius! Maybe that is why it wasn't working for me... I will look for some themeable roms for my Galaxy II. I wish someone could edit the apk successfully.
Could you load a screenshot of your kik displaying an image as the background in the chat? I would like to see an example if possible..

I just saw this post, and decided although it may be a bit late, id comment anyway. a few of the recent "SpecialModded" kiks have backgrounds, although they are a bit older than what body care to use. if you can ignore this, then you have a themable kik with an image background, as long as you know what youre doing. for more info or access to this, pm me on kik @ XDAHelper.
