Hello everyone I am new here and new to Android, I was an iPhone user and was actively In to jailbreaking, Now want to ask your guys the best way to root my new HTC one M8 Eye. And is it necessary to install a custom room when we root? Or can we keep the current version of the Android on the device and how do we receive updated like I am waiting for lollipop 5.0 now would it be juts one click update after rooting via my phone.
Thanks

I have just bought a HTC Desire HD and im very pleased with it. Its a fantastic peice of kit but orange have decided that they want to fill up my phone with a load of sh*t apps! Very annoying. I have decided therefore to ROOT it with visionary last night which was success then i downloaded the ROM manager after turning of S-OFF i think...correct me if im wrong there. So i have a rooted phone now but all i want to do is bang a generic stock ROM on there so i can use my phone how it is just without orange nonsense everywhere and still get the updates off the cloud as come to general public. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
William
You can't run a custom ROM and still get OTA updates. As you are rooted you might be able to remove the Orange bloatware but it'll probably return with every update.
Have a look at the Desire HD forum to see what custom ROMS are available, or check the list in ROM Manager. There's bound to be one that suits your needs.
Hey guys.
I was thinking of getting a Desire S, How would I go about getting Sense 3.0 on a T-Mobile U.K Desire S?
I don't want to flash custom ROM's, but wouldn't mind Rooting to debrand or anything
You might want to wait a few days in the hope of an offiicial announcement from HTC.
Although a few users have already received an OTA update already in the last few days, most of us (I think) haven't.
A lot of people have been asking HTC on facebook about the update and HTC are being utterly non-comittal about it with just a stock answer.
If the official update doesn't appear within a time frame that you like, there is always great support right here to load a custom ROM.
Hi. Thanks for your reply.
So it wouldn't be possible form De-branding and RUU or anything, or is there no actual RUU?
I wouldn't mind waiting for the update, would just like to know when it is
Hello,
I am currently Have a HTC one s S4.
I am hoping to update my phone and I had a few questions
Can I flash the HTC One play edition to my phone?
OR
Is it possible to install a Vanilla Android on my device?
I don't mind losing stock apps and such.
Also don't mind that HTC One only has 2 of 3 HTC One S buttons.
Would be advantage if possible - OTA updates
If any of these are possible I would much appreciate a guide or 2.
Extra Info: I have already rooted my phone.
If you want info about flashing a rom to the One M8 I suggest asking in the correct section.
No, you will need a ROM developed for or ported for the One S. There are several in the development forum.
So I traded my LG g2 for a Verizon HTC One m8 so far I love it. The phone was on the official lollipop update sadly. I know as of now I am stuck. But will I always be stuck or is there a root exploit in the makings?

Click to collapse
Nothing is a given but the team that is likely working on this has a good track record with HTC devices, so it is likely just a matter of time.
Thanks for the reply! Just waiting patiently. Once sunshine releases an update will it root my phone along with s-off or will a seperate root exploit need to be found first?
Currently, sunshine temproots your phone to get s-off, but not sure how it will be done with 5.0. I've heard lollipop is going to be more difficult to root.
So I have an HTC One A9 and considering rooting it. Ideally I'd like to use vanilla Android and get Nexus-like updates. This is probably a dumb question but does rooting a phone give you vanilla Android and timely OS updates? Or are you just swapping HTC's s/w and updates with something like CM? Do Google's OTA updates roll out to rooted phones or do you have to wait for TWRP or CyanogenMod to create custom ROMs for your particular phone model?
Thanks!
Rooting does not help with getting updates, and if you root you will not get stock updates nor Google nexus like updates; If you root and load CM / LOS, then you can manually update pretty much weekly. There are hardly any roms for the A9, so you may be better off keeping it stock IMHO.
