I have a Canadian WiFi Xoom and after looking at the features that we are lacking, I'm ready to flash my xoom to US WiFi version. Is there any way I can do it? If so, do I have to unlock my xoom? Links please. Thanks!
Just find the stock US images and flash them; the link is at the sticky at the top of this forum.
You will probably lose data though; I have yet to successfully get my Xoom to boot a US image without looping on and on forever... and keep all of my data.
Vimmy, just what i was thinking.... any insight, or someone who has done it, Please chime in!
I got tired of waiting for Motorola Canada to wake up, so I did it last night. It involves erasing everything on your tablet, so make sure you backup anything you want to keep - this is required as the userdata partition is different between the US and Canada models.
What are the instructions for doing this? I'm curious cause I want my 3.1.
I know it involves fastbooting a bunch of stuff, but can I get a precise set of instructions for doing this? Thank you kindly in advance.
I have the same question... what process have you all used to upgrade the canadian wifi xoom to a us rom? Could you please give details? Thanks!
In time backup bootmenu there was here a such:
"No /emmc/. android_secure found. Skip ping backup of applications on external storage."
That it?
How to correct?
Forgive for my English=)
I from Ukraine.
all the user applications get stored on the phone memory in /data.. so that does get backed up in both Full and Fast backup
you dont really need to backup your sdcard
Edit: yeah the applications from sdcard dont get backedup.. just did a backup :S

Means and has to be? You too have such message?
yeah i got that message, /emmc/ could not/skipped backup or something like that.. :?
We have no /emmc on this phone, so ignore that. The bionic and the razr and a few other phones have /emmc, but the A2 does not, so you can ignore this "error".

Yep perfectly normal, and a successful backup. Again since we do not have an internal /sdcard (like the samsung phones do), there is no /sd_ext, so it will skip that. You can use bootmenu or bootstrap to get a successful backup, your previous errors, were not really errors, and you most likely got a good backup.
I will be 100% honest here, and that the backups from CWM are really worthless. We have the fxz, and since we can not really get into CWM on boot easily (like they can on say samsung phones, which they can flash a custom CWM to thier recovery partition), the fxz is really your ONLY savior here. You might be able to restore a backup of stock ICS, ONLY if you do not bork your current rom, and can still get into CWM on boot somehow. If backing up with CWM gives you a warm and fuzzy, then it does it's job, but since we have an ICS fxz now, it is really not needed. And even more so, if you want to move over to things like CM10 or MM, and then want to go back to stock. Yes you can technically restore your backup, but I and others have seen some odd things that get left over from doing that, so the fxz is really the best thing to do.

An FXZ is the factory install provided by Motorola. Now Motorola does not provide this to normal users, they give it to AT&T and Motorola repair sites, and it gets leaked to us, from the incredible Motorola Firmware team.
The FXZ needs to be flashed with a program called RSD lite (only works on windows machines), it will fully restore your phone back to the factory install of ICS.
Take a read at this thread it explains a lot of great things for the A2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650
Now that has not been updated in a while, but it will give you enough information.
You can get the proper FXZ file for your phone or region from here:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/list.php
You can also get the files from here, for the international phones:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934874
Or here for the AT&T phones:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1961310
RSD lite version 6.0 is needed to flash ICS, and you can get that from here:
https://hotfile.com/dl/174582400/60ad26d/RSDLite_6.0.rar.html
You will also need to get the motorola atrix2 drivers for windows from the motorola website, I will not link those as I am sure you can find them from going to the motrola home page and look under mobile device drivers.
By using the FXZ, it will be like your phone came brand new out of the box.

Please click the thanks button at the bottom right of the posts from Jim.
Not a requirement but a courtesy. He went beyond the call of duty.

I think it's not bricked, it's just bootloop. And yeah, you need to reflash your ROM. Unfortunately for "local tablet product" is a little hard to find backup, flashable zip or something like that on web. You have to find another tablet like what you have, and make a nandroid backup from it and then restore that backup to your tablet. Well, I am pretty sure, it's not that easy.
Ok, the very last thing you can do is bring your tablet to its service center. Good luck..

Thanks very much!!

Thought i would try and help you out since i have some old xoom files laying around. However, i am confused about while files you need.
MZ600: 3g xoom for Verizon US called stingrayCDMA(maybe?)
MZ601: 3g xoom for GSM called everest
MZ602: 4g lte xoom for Verizon US called stingray
MZ603: WiFI only xoom called wingray
MZ603: WiFi only xoom called wingray
So the everest file you need will not work on an MZ602.
Test question is, do you have an MZ602(Stingray) or an MZ601(everest)?
Let me know, and I will see if I can find the right file.
PS: Also, what is your region/language?

Thanks for helping... It's definitely an MZ602 - Verizon 4GLTE. The device accepts flashing through Fastboot or RSD, but will not save anything. I think the partition table must be gone. There is NO Recovery. Someone else suggested this file would help even on the "wrong" device. Desperate at this point will try anything.
Region - USA
Hope you have something or an idea.

METHOD 1:
If you haven't tried it already, download this http://www.mediafire.com/download/klylgjtuy42y625/HRI39.zip, extract and flash using the following fastboot method.
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot -w
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
METHOD 2:
Can you flash a custom recover in fastboot or does it fail? If it fails, what exactly is the error?
If you can successfully flash a custom recovery image, try following this guide. I know it is intended for removing a "BigPart", it should be able to recreate your partition tables if you can flash recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2635282
METHOD 3:
You can also try this SBF file which is an SBF of the newest stock rom for the MZ602
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/download.php?device=24&file=710
IF NONE OF THIS WORKS
I have searched high and low and can't find a copy of the 1.35-everest.reflash.sbf, however i understand what you were thinking, i found many people talking about this file as a method for recovery. If non of my methods above work, maybe someone still has the everest sbf in question laying around.
Please help to restore old xoom
Please help restore old Xoom mz600. It stuck in moto logo.
Recovery doesn't work too, stuck in "Reading ODM fuse: 1".
After long investigation I get it is problem with bootloader.
Maybe somebody still have this magic file 1.35-everest.reflash !!!
1.35-everest.reflash.sbf

Why not share it in the public thread? lets be honest you won't be here to respond to stuff forever so you might as well drop a link in the thread for future collectors everywhere. And PLEASE use Android File Host, it seems to keep files forever and i don't see it going down anytime soon.

I got this tablet early (Christmas gift) and proceeded to root using vampirefo's rooting method. It worked and all was good until I noticed one of my games was part of the system. I go to delete it with lucky patcher as usual. My next book ended up in a boot loop and I ended up deleting the sys/data partitions hoping to reflash my backup. Well that didn't work and now I've got a tablet with no os installed.
Can someone please link/email a full android 5.0 os for this tablet? I've looked for one to no avail and vampirefo has killed his project sadly .
Btw, thank you vampirefo for your rooting method, it works
Do you still need the rom? Because I can get you a TWRP nandroid backup, but I don't know if you still need it.
I would greatly appreciate a full rom for this.
I have yet to find one or buy a new tablet.
OK, I can get you a nandroid backup tomorrow, but I have one quick question: You said you used vampirefo's rooting method, did you remove encryption on your tablet?
Here's the nandroid backup: https://www.dropbox.com/s/62evsgqvpc2vt0e/Ares85.1nandroid.zip?dl=1 It's already rooted with busybox installed. Just extract the zip onto your SD card (or internal storage if you have encryption disabled) and restore through TWRP.
Sorry that I haven't gotten back to you. I am downloading now and yes I did disable encryption. I hope to have my tablet working again with your backup. Will thank you once I'm successful

I tried but I was unable to format a system partition large enough for the system image. I ended up buying a new tablet, fully backed up and rooted now
