Andorid Lollipop!! - Galaxy S Advance I9070 General

Hi guys! I already asked this question but....why a smartphone as S PLUS received Android lollipop and Kernel 3.4.105 and the S advance is stop to KitKat and kernel 3.0.101? Thi our smartphone has absolutely no developer able to do it?:crying::crying:

bcz S plus has qualcomm snapdragon Soc (easily available sources ) and our crap has novathor which has no source ...so don't expect any new update for our device...even present source builds are not bug free for i9070 .
this thing made clear many times by many devs
so don't create new thread for this thye of Qs...we have Q&A thread plus search option.

This is amazing news. Although, I'm not sure whether this is going to affect our device or not. It's not that the devs are unable to pull this off, I think it's more of a matter of the practical aspect since most people follow the natural course and update their dated hardware. Nonetheless we can just hope that our device is not forgotten.

Team Canjica not give more support for janice, so no lollipop for S Advance
Janice sources are horrible, could compile lollipop, but with many bugs

It's sad to say but it's already forgotten

I say too that our janice is forgotten...But remember this: never say never, although i think that janice can't run lollipop. We already experience lags on jb, cm.If we had 1gb ram, then was other story...but still hard to build lollipop without sources.
We won't get more performance using lollipop, we will get a slow device.
Why you really wants lollipop? Just for the look, isn't it? You can make a theme like that and that's it.
I know that is not allowed, but if anyone need that novathor sources which chinese guy posted on xda few months ago and know how to adapt them for lollipop (if is possible) tell me...i still have them in my pc and I'll never delete them.
What is the rom which is trully fast and smooth ? The answer is GIINGERBREAD. Yeah, it is outdated, but consume less ram, and that we need, free ram.

Have you tried Vanir? I use it for like 6 months now and don't even think about anythink else. Fast, no fancy colorful stuff jumping at me from every menu, good battery life, what more can you want?
In a day or two I'll also put here the kernel I use with Vanir along with my new governor, if you're interested.

I'm using first or second version of Vanir and I'm satisfied and i never updated. I installed many apps and became little slow. Gingerbread still better for ram management i think.
Why i use vanir ? Because i see that on this rom the camcorder isn't so darker like other roms, at least for me (after changing exposure). Although i record videos rarely, when i want to do it i don't want darker videos...
I'm interested in your kernel, and i think not just me
PS: i use just vanir and sami os

AOSP on Galaxy Tab 3 10.1

So, i opened this therad because there no persons pushing and Developing custom AOSP Roms for the Galaxy Tab 3.
I'm opening it here because the Android Developing forum is a bit AFK.
Also, my first question is,
Why we are not using the Android x86 source, put a little bit from samsung open source and Tab 3 binaries it, and compile it?
Its so hard?
We are the xda-developers, we can do it!
Curious..

Yes, I'm asking myself the same, the Galaxy Tab 3 is such a famous device and out since July, but still there are nearly no ROMs out. Are there any ROMs planned or will this device soon be moved to the low activity section? CyanogenMod officially supported the Galaxy tab and the galaxy tab 2, but it doesn't seem like they are planning to support the galaxy tab 3?
Is there a special reason for that?, I'm just wondering?

The most device development I've done to date has been a simple android app, but I'm willing to get dirty on this one. I just came into possession of one of these devices over xmas, and I never let a good device go to waste. I do have 17 years of programming experience in multiple languages including C++ and Java, and a lot of web-based languages, so I'm hoping to come up to speed relatively quickly.
I'll poke around here and on the net over the next few days and see if I can teach myself, but if someone could point me in the direction of some quick start tutorials for building custom roms, I'll get started.

Anthony, I think one thing that is holding people back on this device is a good recovery. The ones available now are painfully slow. I'm guessing there is some power saving mode on the x86 chip that needs to be tweaked to get it performing well. Once that was fixed, it would be a lot easier to experiment with ROMs. -- Bud

Anthony and all, hi and hello. Thinking of shaking the rust off, as I also just came into possession of a GTab3, 10.1 inch, over this holiday season. I haven't built anything in a long time, but anyone who ran a Vibrant a couple years ago around here, should recognize my handle. I maintained a rom for the Vibrant for quite a while, from Froyo to ICS, then life got busy.
Popping into here today, I'm kinda sad to see there's not much if any in the way of development on this device. Happy to have root, thats a start. cduced was right, we do need a better recovery option, at least one that is faster, though what we have now is workable. TWRP may be slow, but it's something. We were always hung up on doing pure aosp source build for the Vibrant, because Sammy is not known for making their kernel source easily and readily available. Working from an existing zip to kang it is easy, but really thats just the same rom, maybe stripped and repackaged. A source build is the desirable outcome.
Though I haven't begun looking into things for this baby yet, and my adb and build tools are far out of date, I am very interested in working towards a better set of options for this device. 4.2.2 still? I can't believe Sammy hasn't released a 4.3 update, that's sad, but goes to show the lack of support they give their devices, to anyone who's been there you know, but you also know, determined devs can make it a better world.
Anthony, and anyone else interested in trying to improve this device, feel free to PM me, I'm thinkin' we should make a Google Hangout or something, make it easier to communicate.

Hey I want aosp on this device too! At the very least, id like a custom kernel that I can overclock to reduce lag. Ive never created a rom, but I dont think roms are the issue...id be interested in porting roms that already exists...x-note for multiwindow features, or pac-rom for a highly customized device.
Are you still up for the projects? Lets heat these forums up!!!

It's ok I have already seen and tried them . I understand the concept of work on something new and the lack of dev it's just that I was surprised because I thought tab 3 was like the others tabs so the development was more evolve.no problem.
Not to knock it, but whats been released in the threads, is nothing more than the deodexed build already up there, with some bloat removed. Even the install scripts have, or had, the same text as the original. So really, nothing new. I am looking into possibly kernel cooking for this device, that seems like a good point to start.
No promises at this point, I'm looking into it though.

This is true but there is finally a bit of interest and may come up with some new goodies..... the reason they all have the same updater.script is because of the recoveries.... they need a little more work to get them to work with the x86 architecture

[Q] Best stock firmware for Xperia l?

Hey guys, like most of you are, i'm very disapointed because sony dropped development for our phone... However i dont
have the resources to buy a new one since i lost 200 euros (not dollars) on this brick.
I like its design and for me this could be the best android phone HOWEVER, it's crappy software is destroying everything.
I have tried custom roms, i have even built my own with my own tweaks and i have come to the conclusion that the best
rom cooking is stock on everything, rooted, with tweaked gps.conf and adfree hosts file. Yep simple with no de odexing or zipaliging
as i am lazy p)
Now the problem is, i dont know what firmware should i install... Every version as its bugs so i would like to know if you xperia l veterans know
the best build.
Im looking for snappyness: best ram management, and speed.
The less bugs the better but give priority to snappiness...
I would also like a good camera but i think every build sucks on that...
I hope you guys can help...
thanks

I believe the latest version is always the best. It comes with some bug fixes (not all though, but something is better than nothing). Sony makes some improvements with the feedback they get and thus tries to remove those bugs. Take camera for example, the latest version has far better camera than some previous versions.
So I think the latest version with root and xposed framework is the best.
Are you sure? Cause i heard somewhere that this update has worst ram management thats why i talked about it in the thread...

See every rom has its pros and cons. I am a normal user and thus don't find the ram management to be poor. However, it might be poor, but the camera is better than previous one. So depends on the user as well.

low performance on KitKat Roms

Dear developers,
I've tested some KitKat ROMs in my Desire S by now. Unfortunately, for all performance is an issue. When using any browser (stock/Dolphin/Chrome) the whole system freezes from time to time and also for example GoogleMaps is really slow and laggy. I did a full wipe every time.
I'm wondering why this is the case... Is the CPU of the Desire S simply to old/slow for current apps like GoogleMaps or browsers? But why was it no problem on the original gingerbread ROMs than? Neither GoogleMaps nor the browsers do more in my opinion. GoogleMaps now even has less features than back then. Or is it because 768MB RAM is not enough for current ROMs? But as I see it, some low-end devices today even feature only 512MB.
I have used my Desire S since 2011 and I really would like to go on using it, but when I see how fast and smooth everything can run on a OnePlus One for example, and remembering that it used to run similarly fast on the Gingerbread-Desire, it can be really annoying from time to time.
please have in mind we live in 2015 now [emoji12]
CM12.1 is super fast and also very stable.

I do. If you'd read carefully, you would've recognised that I was asking what is limiting the phone. If you do not have an answer for this, there's no need for posting.
@vojtah1: thanks, I'll give it a try. I didn't install it yet as people wrote it would be laggy as well. Would you say it was faster than 4.4.4?

Why so serious mate, chill. I have read the post carefully and my raction is caused by your thoughts. Even ICS was heavier than GB what about KitKat or Lollipop. I am sure that you will not be happy with a low RAM Device running 4.4.4 even if it a 2014 make as we all was pleased with Saga once 4 years ago. The mentioned OnePlusOne does not fit in the low end device category at all.
BTW I am on 4.4.4 for a couple of months now. I have no performance issues with it however it is very sripped down variant with many services disabled and apps removed but this is fine for my requiremnts. The CPU is running with the default settings but is overclocked to 1.4 GHz. Hope this helps.

Hum. I gave it a try but unfortunately the dialer app is tremendously slow. If I have an incoming call, it takes at least 5s or so until the screen lits up and I can answer the call. The other day, the dealer somehow froze and I was only able to place my call after waiting some minutes for the device to settle and reload. This is simply the complete opposite from "it just works".

My ROM is REFLEX BOW, version GR0UND Zer0 (#1.02), build 18th Feb 2015
I am using the Gapps and the BloatWare removal Script from this thread
I have also completely disabled Location and Google Play Services (more here), turn on mobile data only when I need it, keep it on 2G most of the time.
The apps I use mostly are Exchange e-mail, Calendar and Google Chrome. So I consider this as a very basic use. No multimedia, no games, no social networks. However as I have mentioned already this completely suits my needs. If you like this set-up feel free to try it and share your thoughts. Otherwise it may be a time for upgrade (I think it came for me but I have a hard time to find something that has the future-proof potential of the Desire S. Probably will wait for several months to see what OnePlusTwo, next Nexus or the Motorola flagship will look like)
Regards,
Stefan
P.S.: I can see tha tyou have posted in the Desire XS version 1.1 thread - I can highly recommend this ROM or SVHD if you like to have some nice tweaks. Will we ever get more devs to develop custom kernels for the 2015 Moto G?

I don't mean to be rude to any other devs on here, but it seems that squid2's Squid Kernel hasn't been updated in a while, and now with eng.stk no longer having this device, no more updates will come to his kernel. So I ask: when will we get more devs to develop for the 2015 Moto G?
I wish I could help, but I have nowhere near enough ram for a build environment.
and new + stablr roms too. :/ less developers for g3.. no offence to current devs they did a gr8 job.
Let me say just one thing. My last device was the HTC Desire 601. Great phone but very very little dev support. We never got CM, maybe two roms that were never updated. Im thoroughly happy with the support this device has. This is just me though, but some is better than none
Sent from my Virgin Mobile CDMA Moto G3
I think this device is not getting too much ROM or kernel devs because, in my opinion, stock works just perfect. I tried CM and many others and I just love the stability of stock, and also using custom you loose what in my opinion is the best feature of this phone which is ambient display.
I had the 2nd grn moto g and I can say that phone had tons of devs compared to this one. But 2nd gen stock was quite awfull, being 5.0.1 so installing custom was the best you could do.
With 3rd gen I don't miss any feature nor anything from CM, just install xposed and that's it.
Just my opinion, but it would be really nice to have some new kernels to try. And I kinda miss to be trying ROMs, I flahed new build every day, and tried almost every one available on my 2nd gen hehe, but I just don't need it on this one.

I right with you, stock work perfectly, but with a custom kernel, perfomance and battery its better. I only wait for a custom kernel for stock marshmallow firmware. I have a stock 5.1 with blu_spark custom kernel, is really great, works better than cm12, resurrection remix and other custom roms, of course, kernel options edited by kernel adiutor.

There are plenty of apps and xposed modules which can mimic ambient display, as well as improve on it greatly. I used to use one app called gravity for my N4 which lets you choose the sensors to enable to wake the display. This was probably a full year or two before Motorola released the original Moto X with its ambient features. Personally, I think Moto G's ambient display is pretty barebone, and I really would like to see more options. If you use the stock rom you won't get any light sensor wake, so if you wave your hand it won't wake up. That's actually just a Moto X thing, and CM found a way to add that into their app for Moto G.
I would love to see an official PA build with working ambient display. That has always been my favorite custom rom, and it hasn't gotten much attention for our device.
Also, as the OP requested, kernels...there are a literal crapton of modules that can be added which would not only improve our battery life, but the device's overall performance, web speed, charge time, display color, etc....the possibilities here are almost endless.
So there are definitely things which can be improved upon for this device, IMHO. Just remember, what's perfect for you isn't perfect for everyone. I'm coming from around 5 years of Nexus devices. Trust me when I tell you, this forum feels like a ghost town, in comparison. The N4 is 4 generations old now, and it still sees more daily activity in its forum than this device does. Amazon Fire tab is only a month old, but its bootloader is locked and is about as budget as it comes, and their development forum has CM and Slim rom already, with a ton of action in the general and Q&A sections.
I'm not complaining or taking any shots at our devs...believe me, I appreciate the hard work they put in. I just wish they had some help from a few more devs. This is such a cheap phone I really thought we'd be seeing a lot more action than we are at this point in the game, but we mostly only see users from countries that don't seem to harbor quite as many devs as some....or at least not devs who post here, to be fair

Totally agree with you. It's really strange there's so few devs, its just an awesome budget phone. I'm with you with PA, best ROM IMO. When I saw the post from it I got really excited and after 2 builds the guy disappeared.
Maybe we will have to start compiling ourselves I have no idea, but I would like to learn.

there are so many things kernels can do that none posted here offer....
screen gamma (color correction)
TCP congestion control (aka web speed boost)
charging voltage (speeds up charging)
volume boost
multi boot roms
i/o read/write speed
touchscreen accuracy
wake lock control
ram tuning
cpu and gpu governors (we only have a few built into our available kernels)
....and that's just a short cherry-picked list!!
We have a whopping TWO...no joke....two....custom kernels to choose from. Seriously, no offense...I really appreciate the work the devs have both put in, but having only two kernels to choose from just seems absolutely pathetic to me. This may not be an officially branded Google device, but it's easily the closest unofficial Google device I've ever seen. We should EASILY be keeping pace with the Nexus forums right now. Hell, Nexus 4 is now 4 years old and they get more posts in their forum in a few hours than we get all day.
There is a HUGE amount of things we are missing from kernels, and an even larger number of roms we don't have access to because they haven't been built.
I really don't think it's very unreasonable at all to ask capable devs to join our forum and build for us. Honestly....when was the last time you thought more choices was a bad thing?? I don't see this as being any different!

At that time with CM12.1 going official for surnia I didn't have time to keep on with the PA builds + builds were partially broken for some time (some API issues), and now with CAF 6.0 builds I still don't have time to work on PA. I'm sorry for that.
The osprey was started in the official repo and I was hoping someone from PA would take it over, but it's not the case.

Don't say sorry. You are doing hell of a work with caf. And PA is kinda dead now, I think they are preparing mm builds, but in the community from g+ they are saying project has not enough devs so they don't know if they are going to continue. Anyways man, great work with caf, o tried a few days ago keep it up!

[ROM][REQUEST][POLL] Should i develop a rom for the Tab S6??

Hi all,
i own a Tab S6 T860 (non-lte) for quite a while now, about 6 months.
There are some downsides like the horrible unbuffered screen tearing that you'll get with fast-scrolling, but the overall device is pretty premium-sided, and it's got a decent processor, a great display (color/resolution wise) although im missing 2160p in youtube.
Question is as i (until now) didnt bothered developing for a new device, since i had my hands full with the MiPad4, some alcatel devices and are Maintaining official LineageOS for three legacy devices, should i develop for this one if the community still wants it.
The lead-dev of the MiPad left it so im thinking about developing for the Tab S6 now.
I would only develop LineageOS, starting with 16.0 then doing 17.1 and then 18 but idk how long it would take, since ive no real knowledge of the newest platforms and how they are built, so i'd be reading/trying out stuff a LOT before some release nightlies. The "latest" i developed for was the MiPad4 with a sdm660 btw but i mainly do legacy (e.g 8953/8952/8926).
So please leave your feedback or any other opinions/questions, if we reach a decent amount of people who still want it i'll start right away when im back home from my vacations on 18th.
Best Regards!
Edit: Since theres no real telegram group, and i MAINLY talk via telegram i made one so you can contact me quickly.

I would LOVE to have LOS on my Tab S6 (SM-T860) WiFi-only tablet!
Don't even care about stuff like fingerprint, external keyboard, Widevine, Bluetooth, any 'functionality' similar to what Samsung 'provides' like, you name it.
I've spent sooo much time, and a few dollars, trying to get preinstalled stuff to *not* work! but still be able to boot—Knox bull****, anyone?
And having telephony **** on my WiFi-only tablet, either. Something that has baffled me for years is why a 'custom' ROM for a Wifi-only device has software that trys to interact with nonexistent hardware, using up cpu as it continually tries...on a bit of a rant, there.
So yeah, I'm all in. FWIW, I helped write the instructions, and did a *lot* of testing for rooting the Tab S5e, so I ain't scared to test out stuff; check it out, here:

Thanks for the info about the S5e, i was unaware of how well it is supported.
I would definitely do stuff like fingerprint, widevine, Bluetooth (PEN) and stuff.
But idk about those keyboards samsung offers and how they function since i cant test it on my own.
Same goes for the LTE but im pretty sure i can just use the same blobs.
BTW anyone has a firehose package for the tab s6 by chance???
I too would love LOS in this device. Samsung UI is cluttery, lagging (on mine), and an absolute mess. My PocoF1 gives me better Honkai Impact 3 (a gatcha action fighting game) performance than this tablet, and the poco is an SD845, with lite LOS. So yeah, I'd love to have this. My warranty is void anyways (because samsung decided so I haven't done a thing to void it), so it'd be great to have a reason to take advantage of that.
Chiming in for a plea to get a Lineage build for the Tab S6.
Such a gorgeous piece of hardware beset by such a ****ty software implementation. Why does Samsung insist on abusing its customers? I'd gladly pay for a Lineage or AOSP rom for our device.
Alright, a little update:
Kernel is done -> link found below
It has to be handled with care as of now. Installing it on my running rom resulted in a crash when unlocking the device. A quick factory reset fixed the problem but keep that in mind when installing this on your device.
Rom will follow up hopefully till next month - but i cant promise anything.

i would love to have custom kernel for samsung rom, but i don mind if you can make enhancements to the kernel like under volt or to solve the graphics lagging issues. it was just tiny changes involved in the past to make it work for both stock and LineageOS but for android 10, i have no idea
i have long inactive in both rom and kernel developments and i doubt how long should it take to get familiar with changes from android 7 to 10
ps i am still on pie, too lazy to upgrade due to my csc is tgy, which lacks updates as usual, and i dont wanna reinstall everything as to switch to dbt and to re-enter all my passwords
btw, may i ask if the stock android 10 fixed the problem with fast scrolling? i have experiences lags and graphics distortions with the samsung browser which was way toooooo unacceptable for a top device like tab s6

nope, sadly we still suffer from those issues on Q .
I dont have any good knowledge of how to apply those undervolts as i never done it before (lineageos requires stock govenors for official) but if you can point me to the correct commits i can look at it

oh...
there were some cpu/voltage tweaks for the same cpu before for my old devices. and for our tab s 6 there are a few devices with the same cpu like one plus. you can search the cpu model in github and then you can find the code name of it and those devices which use the same cpu. i used to get those tweaks for modifying kernels for my previous devices. however for our 855, sadly there's no port for the samsung devices afaik, so you may need to make some more changes in order to port them
---------- Post added at 05:54 ---------- Previous post was at 05:35 ----------
just found this one https://github.com/kdrag0n/proton_bluecross/releases
it should be a 855 with some oc according to the change log, but unfortunately i couldnt load the changes with my browser so i couldnt find the relevant commits
may be you can take a look at that

I'm in at 17.1 level and up. Don't want to go back...
YES! Yes please please please! I have been dreaming and hoping LOS would come to the Tab S6 for SO long now. So yes, please make a rom for it. Please.
I would love to have LOS rom support on the Tab S6! The lack of Lineage OS support was the one thing holding me back from purchasing the Tab S6, compared to the Tab S5E, but I wanted the faster processor, storage, and larger memory capacity.
That said, if you develop a working LOS rom, that would be a huge win for all Tab S6 users!
I don't think there is a person on XDA with the tab S6 that would not want to see a custom lineage Rom built. I do want a working Spen though. Im on stock 10 One UI 2.5 and samsung is extremely slow at releasing the kernel source code for the 860. Its definitely worth it to use to build one if you can. Thanks for developing on the tab S6.
LOS for T-865 ?! Yes, absolutely
P.S: Working pen would be great of course.
Still On The Fence.

I would support a ROM for this device, but I am leery about past issues and previous devices. I had 3 smp600 units, and all three were beaten to the edge with constant testing of all the ROMS I could grab. But, only ONE of those tabs choked on something from a pure LOS build. Then it hit a brick wall. I could never find a way past a Nov 18 build. So, now with two smt870 units, I will tread lightly. And, big question: WHY are we STILL stuck with ODIN for this process? I know nothing of the process of coding and writing these great ROMS, but having to drag out a WINDOWS laptop to update my android device seems like many steps backwards. I have no NEED for a laptop save for praying for Odin to even run properly. Wish there were better ways for us old farts who've forgotten more tricks than new ones have been taught. But, I am on board to get the Sammy off of my tab. Thanks for your errors.

Well if your not rooted you dont need odin you can install official release update. If you mean to install custom rom like lineage you again dont need odin after you install TWRP.
Actually, on debloated rooted stock ROM I don't see any problems so far..Device is holding it solid and sound.
Flavour of Lineage is absolutely welcome, but personaly I wouldn't use it because a lot of bugs and non functional addons.
Personally...this tablet without pen is like Ferrari without fuel.
Rooted debloated stock is miles ahead of Samsung's incompetent shadow apps. But even as stripped down as I can make it, the ROM still lags and burns battery in the background. I've tried everything and can't get this beautiful expensive piece of hardware to perform to its specs. I respect others who love it as is, but I've never gotten comfortable with the pen and just want a light, fast tablet with a beautiful screen that doesn't overtax its battery.
I'd switch to Lineage on this device in a heartbeat.
this project still alive? seems dead for me.
