Assuming that you have:
Not modified the registry.
Surface RT with Windows 8.1
Patience (Essential)
First: Taking ownership.Use
Code:
takeown /F "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" /A /R
Second Let's remove the C:\Program Files\WindowsApps folder (As we have already taken ownership we can do this) just use "SHIFT+SUPR".
There is also a way to preserve already installed apps, this shouldn't affect but in the proccess I just deleted everything, anyway, you decide...
Code:
robocopy "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" "D:\WindowsApps" /E /COPYALL /DCOPY:DAT
and then just use "SHIFT+SPR" to delete the folder.
Assuming that your news apps folder is at "D:\WindowsApps" change it to the directory where you want to have the apps.
ThirdNow let's create the symbolic link
Code:
mklink /D "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps" "D:\WindowsApps"
Restart
Try to install an app and... d*mn! Error 0xd00000bb
Don't worry just right click over the new app directory, in my case "D:\WindowsApps" and choose properties... then Security tab and then Advanced now we must be sure that there is the "ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES" with full control if it isn't then just add it. Enable inheritance and tick the option "Replace all child permi..." then ok and wait... when it's done go to the Windows Store and click "Retry" and.... voi lá app get installed.
Be hapy :good:
I'll try to do this later. But has anyone else tried this and confirmed it works. Also, I'm not a pro, so I don't understand what "use "SHIFT+SPR" to delete the folder." means. Can you elaborate?
I just bought one of these cheap 16gb Win tablets for my son and I'm SOOOOOOO mad that I can't install apps on the SD card. What a joke.
Ok. So I created the D:\WindowsApps and did the robocopy. That took about 30-45minutes.
I tried to create the link, but it said the link was already created. So I don't know about that. Does the robocopy create a symbolic link?
PS. I discovered with some Googling 'Shift+SPR' is 'Shift Delete in Spanish.

Did you deleted original folder in C:\ yet?
I tried this procedure three times today. I was never able to delete the WindowsApps folder from my C drive. And it would continue to install my apps on the C drive. Moreover there were no security options on the WindowsApp folder on my SD card. Frustrated that I spent so much time on this and didn't get anywhere.
If there are no security options on the SD card, then the SD card isn't using NTFS. FAT obviously doesn't support ACLs, so it has no security settings.
If you can't rename or delete the original folder, then obviously you can't replace it with a symlink. You'd have two things with the same name! Robocopy doesn't move files and folders, it copies them (surprise...).
Thanks GDTD

HI again internet.
I tried this method with little success. Then again I had a bitlocker encrypted SD not sure if that makes a diff??

"robocopy" Not Working?
First, i tried to post a comment but since my hotspot was a sprint isp, it denied me. Such a pain and waited a long time to finally register. I finally got around to accessing cable internet to register. But by now, I already found my answer. So here it is.
If you cannot successfully complete the robocopy (says access denied for certain files), you need to fix the permissions first.
1-Before starting these instructions; you must have "ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES" added in the permissions of D:\WindowsApps or wherever that folder is on D. But also be sure to hit the "Full Control" box before saving.
2- Start this tutorial and the robocopy should work.
Hi,
I cannot seem to get the permissions in the SD card folder to work permanently and folder permissions keep reverting to read-only. I have been able to install one app in the SD card folder but now I am continuing to get the error.
Any kind soul would like to explain how to permanently set the permissions to that will make sure that this works?
Thanks a lot.
You didn't mention that the SD Card must be formated as NTFS system in order to take into account correct NTFS Right access.
Does it valid only for Windows 8.1 RT version ??? I am trying on Windows X86 32Bits but doesn't works
Deleted
I'm also interested if it is possible to do this on other machines with Windows 8.1.
I followed the instructions above, but when I'm trying to install i.e. Adobe Touch app, I'v got an error: 0x80244022.
tried in windows 8.1 pro and it does not work. As soon as i open an installed app it opens for a few secconds and the exit imediately.
Please help.

ORIGINAL POST:
"I've noticed that the tutorial for making a gold card is not as intuitive as it should be. A lot of people are having issues making a gold card for a few simple reasons:
1. You need to have the SD card that you want to make in to a gold card in your phone when you get your CID. You need the serial number off of the SD card you're making in to the gold card, and not the ID of your phone it self.
2. Make sure you are following the hexED modification directions correctly. If you run Windows 7 or Windows Vista, be sure to Right click on the program before opening it and select "Run as administrator..."
3. You can use this site to replace steps 6 through 9 of this process thanks to mr_black03:

It replaces Steps 6-9 in Gold Card Instuctions Hope this helps some ppl...enjoy!

4. When using the hexED program make sure you are copying ALL the gold card data, then placing your cursor at the front of the first line(0000000) and click on Edit > Paste Write. Then save. This should replace lines 00000 to 00170 with the data from the gold card.
Here are the directions again for everyone(ease and comfort):
1. Download QMAT http://revskills.de/pages/download.html
It’s a demo version so will only can open for 10 minutes.
2. Format your memory card to fat32. Please keep in mind some card does not work.
3. Search in your android market for ‘Terminal Emulator’
4. type ‘ cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid ‘ without the quote sign.
5. Note that code down on a notepad or something. Make sure everything is noted correctly.
6) Go to QMAT site http://revskills.de/pages/download.html, download QMAT 4.36
7) Extract the file, double click on qmat.exe
8 ) Click on Cyptoanalysis Tools > Crypto Toolbox
9) Look way below, there is a text box (beside “Reverse String” button. Key in the cid number you’ve got earlier
Click on the “Reverse String” button, the result is reversed…
Example: 532600bd227d9c0347329407514d5402
10) Copy the reversed cid
11) Go to QMAT again http://revskills.de/pages/goldcard.html to generate your goldcard (this is free for G1 phone, Thanks to Viper!)
12) Enter your email. For the CID, enter the reversed cid you’ve got earlier. However you need to replace the first 2 characters to 00.
Example: From “532600bd227d9c0347329407514d5402” to “002600bd227d9c0347329407514d5402”
13) click Continue and you will receive the goldcard.img via your email.
14) Go to your email, download the goldcard.img and save it to a directory first.
15) Now, download HxD Hex Editor for this site
http://download.cnet.com/HxD-Hex-Edi...=uo&tag=button
16) Install and launch HxD Hex Editor program
17) Go to Extra tab > Open Disk. Under Physical disk, select Removable Disk (Must be your SD card), uncheck “Open as Readonly), click OK.
18) Go to Extra again, Open Disk Image, open up goldcard.img which you’ve saved to a directory earlier.
Now, you should have two tabs, one is your removable disk, the other is goldcard.img. Press OK when prompted for “Sector Size” 512 (Hard disks/Floppy disks), click OK.
19) Click on goldcard.img tab. Go to Edit tab > Select All, edit tab again > copy.
20) Click on the “removable disk” tab. Select offset 00000000 till offset 00000170, click on Edit tab and then Paste Write.
21) Click on File > Save. You may exit this program
Now, do a test to see if your SD card is “compatible”
Disconnect the USB cable connected to your SD card, then plug it back again. Go to My Computer, you will see your SD card (E.g. “Removable Disk ( F” ), double click and see if you can access it. If it prompted you to format, then forget about this SD card, don’t think it will work. After trying for days, I ended up buying a Kingston 2GB card.

I have a MyTouch 3g rooted, running Cyanogens 4.1.11.1 rom. Any questions let me know as I know the process practically by heart now.

Big thanks to Geahboi for fixing my hours of frustration making the damn gold card. KUDOS!
Can I suggest that this be added to the wiki - then it will last longer than this post will. Ideally you would create a new wiki page with all the instructions, then anyone else can update them and improve them if they see corrections or simplifications.
See: XDADeveloperWiki - HTC_Sapphire_Hacking
Please help me keep our wiki up to date - I can't do it alone (and I know nothing about any of this as I did not need to create a gold card to root my phone)
Also add how to do the gold card with Linux?
I followed these basic instructions that I found on this originally here to make this work with ubuntu jaunty 9.04 linux:
download QMAT from the site above and either install wine packages or get the codeweaver wine package or use the website above to get the correct reversed numbers after adding zeros up front as it instructs.
visit the website to get the goldcard.img sent to you and save the goldcard.img file on your system
after getting the CID from the same card, I use a cheap USB card reader and not the phone to do the creation.
insert the card reader and create a fat file system. if your system auto mounts the disk, you need to unmount it but leave it plugged in and accessible. Now make a file system by doing sudo fstab /dev/sd? where the question mark is the disk drive that linux gave it. You can easily find it by doing a dmesg in the same terminal and look for the card information at the very bottom. Now create a file system using all the disk space on the card and change its type to vfat. Make sure you do this part!
Now format the card you just created by using the command "sudo mkfs.vfat /dev/sdb1" as an example. This creates the vfat file system you need.
DD the goldcard.img to the card by doing "dd if=goldcard.img of=/dev/sd? where the ? is the drive designation linux gives it.
copy the sappimg.zip to the drive after formatting and dd'ing the image. very important and forgot this one when initially compiling this. sorry.
now remove it and test to see if linux will mount it as a vfat disk. If not, the card is most likely not suitable and you need another one or you did a step wrong. You can either mount it manually or let linux attempt to automount it. I don't like automounting so I turn it off.
place the card in the phone and go on with the steps.
I followed these steps twice and the only place that got me was with the actual card itself making a stupid mistake of using a different card for the CID and to make the goldcard.
If you see an error its operator derived and all mine. Just important I think to have a variety of the howto for folks on Linux only.
sorry but what's gold card ? ..

not sure of the exact definition, but essentially its an sd card specifically set up to be used on a cell phone for rooting purposes. the SD cards serial ID as recognized by the phone gets bound to it manually(per the instructions above) and allows the user to get past certain security practices on the phone which would other wise restrict your access to flash image files which is what you need to do in order to root your phone.
any one with more knowledge than myself care to elaborate?
p.s. before mods say it, these types of questions should go in the general section.

try doing this from your computer using adb. (you might have to research a bit to get adb set up on your pc as i will not go over it here)
otherwise, if you're lazy and like me...
1. Download Astro File Manager from the Market.
2. Open up Astro, and browse to /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1
NOTE: Press the green UP arrow in Astro to get back to the main (/) directory.
3. There will be another mmc1 folder with a colin and about 4 numbers in the directory name. Mines like this:
"mmc1:b368"
Open that folder.
4. LONG press on the "cid" file in this directory and click on "Open As".
5. Select "Text" from the list that pops up.
6. If you get a pop up for what program you want to use to view the file you can either use a text editor you have already installed, or the HTML viewer works too.
7. Enjoy.
Let me know if you have questions.
One other HUGE thing that messed me up. You need the sim card in the phone to get the correct cid #. With one phone i had 3 different cid #'s and was like what the hell?! I have done this with the wing many times. But i for got that you need the sim card. So please please keep that bad boy in there. I usually have a back up phone and use that while rooting or anything. Also i believe ADB is so much more accurate and easier to copy the numbers to be sure. In terminal after you have the cid go to file(for windows xp) select all, then while all is selected put the cursor over the very last number of the cid and drag to the first, then go to file again and select copy. If you have vista or win7 instead of going to file just right click at the top bar on the window to get menu options. fosho. . . .
Thank you ^_^
I keep getting "Error – Wrong Model ID". I have tried recreating the goldcard several times. I have a kingston 2gb SD card. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
*nvm, I figured out the problem I think... after checking in the mmc1 folder for the cid instead of using the adb i found that i messed up on of the numbers in there so all is good i think
Same as posted here "I have an HTC [differing: Touch Pro (Alltel CDMA)]. I followed the instruction on forum.xda-developers.com for [FRX*] but it [enters an endless loop] at "task rpcrouter:15 blocked for more than 120 sec". The solution that worked in that link does not solve the same problem with a CDMA RAPH800.
The solution given there (paraphrased from that thread):
Link to the fix. The issue is caused by not having a data plan; the install gets stuck in a loop looking for a signal.
The solution that worked for a GSM phone
download RIL file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...9&d=1302817139 and place in the root of microsd.
download rootfs file from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1NGCVCTT and place in the root of microso.
add to the end of /conf/froyo.user.conf file "/sdcard/libhtcgeneric-ril.so /lib/froyo/libhtcgeneric-ril.so" before the last "}"
Please help me find a solution for a CDMA phone - next month I'd like to take a dozen of these phones and use them as learning aids in a construction course for laborers, but I cannot start testing construction applications since I cannot get the OS to work.
I'm curious as to what happens when you format your microSD and run FRX7.1MR without anything additional. Could I get you to try this method without the additional stuff?
To be explicit, I'd like you to format your microSD with something other than the Windows method and I'd like you to download THIS (if you haven't already) and THIS. Extract the contents of both files to the root of your microSD. You should see a folder called "FRX07.1" and under that folder, you should see 3 folders and 7 files. Move the contents of that folder up to the root of the microSD. Look under the folder called "STARTUPS" and locate your device type (ie RAPH800) and copy over to the root of your microSD. Once done, run Haret on your phone and let me know what happens.
do you have an application you suggest for "format your microSD with something other than the Windows method"; sourceforge did not turn up anything.

use SDFormatter
wow that SDformatter link has a lot of popups - this link feels less like I just found a date at the bus-stop sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3 ; but it will not install on either Server2008R2 x64 or Server2003 R2 SP2 x32.
I reformatted the microSd with the format tool in Server2008R2 as FAT format. Installed the files, and boom - I see little green guys swirling around the screen. After awhile a dialog appeared "Sorry! The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"; the dialog closed and it seems like it works! Thank you. I will try again with the HPtool and as FAT32.
Now I just need to learn how to use Android - and the screen calibration seems off? Deleting ts-calibration and rebooting to calibrate.
Glad to hear using the latest bundle works for you! Yeah, that might be a slight issue with an outdated kernel. The main thing I wanted to do is get you booted up first!
Before we continue, make sure you make a backup of your current configuration by copying the contents of the microSD and either moving it to your computer or some other storage device. This way you know you have a "working" bundle.
Next we update the kernel package from HERE; might I suggest using THIS kernel package. Be sure to delete the old files (should be located under root of the microSD and called modules-xxx and zImage) first! Extract till you see two files then rename zImage-xxx to just zImage and feel free to delete the files you extracted from. I've always created my own ts-calibration file but just wanted you to have it, "just in case".
Additionally, you may also need to update the rootfs by deleting the file called rootfs and downloading THIS file. Extract the file and rename to just rootfs and be sure to place it where the file called Haret is (default location is root of the microSD).
files are downloaded and installed - everything seems to work
Hi All,
I've used Heathcliff's WP7RootTools 0.9 to extract a file from an installed apps IsolatedStorage. The app in question was installed from the Marketplace, but I want to modify some of the files it's saved to it's Isolated Storage.
I extracted the file I wanted to edit by using the Explorer utility in WP7RootTools to copy the file to the "My Documents" folder, and renamed the extension to docx. From there I could simply go into the Office Hub, where the file was now listed, and emailed the file to myself.
I have made the edits to the file, but now need to get the file back into the app's Isolated Storage. This is where I have now got a bit stuck
I've tried copying the file to SkyDrive, and using the Office Hub to download it from SkyDrive to my phone. The file downloaded and is cached on the phone somewhere, but the file location, according to Office is not "Phone". This is normal, as Skydrive downloaded documents are not saved to the "Phone" location until you open the document and do "Save as".
I cannot of course open the downloaded file, as it isn't really a .docx file. Files loacted in the "Phone" location show up in "My Documents" in the WP7RootTools explorer. SkyDrive downloaded documents I have no idea where they are located?
Can you guys help? Does anyone know the path to location of SkyDrive downloaded items on the phone. If so, then I can easily just use the WP7Roottools Explorer to copy the file back to the apps Isolated Storage.
Is there a better way to copy a non-Office file back onto the phone?
Regards,
Micro666

I'm looking to do the exact same thing....
Options:
1. Do exactly what you've been doing, but save as .txt instead of .docx. The phone can still open this, even though its probably a binary file, and save it to the "Phone" location. Then you can copy it back and rename it.
2. Use an app that gives direct access to the phone's filesystem from the PC, like TouchXperience+WPDM, or Root Webserver (see my sig)+your favorite webbrowser.
3. Use any other way to get a file onto the phone, such as emailing it to yourself, using IsolatedStorageexplorer, or putting it in a XAP files and installing that file. Then move the file with WP7 Root Tools.
I recommend approach #2.

I used TouchExperience.
1.On my Fully unlocked Device(I assume you can do this with root tools), I installed a file manager that gives full access to the device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24636416&postcount=23
2. I installed TouchEperience on my PC. After giving the WP7 app, Root tools rights, it should show most of the file system(on the PC) but, not all of it. So I created a new folder in \Windows (temp).
3. On the Phone, I hunted down the file I was looking for from Isolated Storage, I copied it to the \windows\temp folder.
4. Used the PC TouchExperience and browsed to \Windows\temp, there was my files, I copied them to my PC. USed the File Explorer to delete the files in my \temp folder(to make sure they were gone).
5. I edited the files, copied them back to \Windows\Temp on my device via TouchExperience on the PC. Then used the file explorer to copy them back to the Isolated Storage.
Note: The file explorer I posted a link to is GREAT, it can even edit files (basic text editor) in Isolated storage. I found a way to Cheat on a marketplace Xbox live game (didn't try others), right before the achivements, so they were really easy to get
I'm sure there is easier methods but, this worked for me...
Can I ask, what app did you try this on ?
Hope this helped...
FYI DavidinCT: Cheating XBL games is very risky. Microsoft often can detect it (for example, if you get one achievement that would have required getting another first) and they can and will permanently ban your Xbox Live account for doing so.
That all said... why didn't you just use WPDM (on the PC) to copy the file straight to the IsoStore of the app? So much easier...

To be honest, I only did it with a game that had an error when I got so far, so the final achivements of the game. A Game with a Known issue but, no fix.
And I just really wanted to see if I COULD do it...
I used WPDM but, the PC version even with my phone fully unlocked (custom rom on my VZW HTC Trophy) and using Root tools 0.9 to give full to TouchExperince root, would not see all the folders and would not see the IsoStore. SO I had to copy the files to a folder that WMDM could see.
Personally, the new File Explorer above is awsome, it's even got a editor in it, I didn't even need to go through all that......
Q. Whats Bluestacks?
A. Bluestacks is a Silicon Valley-based software company that produces BlueStacks App Player and BlueStacks Cloud Connect. Both products revolve around enabling Android applications to run on Windows PCs, Macintosh computers and Windows tablets. The company was founded in 2009 by Rosen Sharma, former CTO at McAfee and board member of Cloud.com.
Steps To Find SD Card in your PC
First Download 'Root Explorer' (Included Below) and Install 'Root Explorer' in Bluestacks
Decide on which directory to give access in BlueStacks. You can either choose an entire hard drive, or a particular folder of your choice.
Access the Windows Registry by going to Start >> Run and type in 'regedit' and hit Enter. This opens up the Registry Editor.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\BlueStacks\Guests\Android\ SharedFolder\0.
Right Click on 'Path' and click on 'Modify'.
Write the path of the folder which you want to include in SD card. (Example C:\SDCard)
Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
You can find the folder at '(Root)/sdcard/bstfolder/ BstSharedFolder/'
Note
If u don't wanna change your Registry, You can simply copy and paste the file's that you want in SD Card at 'C:\ProgramData\BlueStacks\UserData\SharedFolder\' and find the files at above location in Root Explorer (ie '(Root)/sdcard/bstfolder/ BstSharedFolder/').

YEAH! Finally found it again! Thanks mate
Has anyone noticed that this shared folder has limited functionality when trying to transfer files from Bluestacks to the PC? It seems like if I try to copy something larger than ~300 megabytes Bluestacks will freeze up. Titanium backup is also unable to successfully use that shared folder as a backup location (also freezes up). I'm trying to find a good way to sync my app data (or at least transfer the Titanium Backup backups to my PC). Any ideas?
How to copy file from window to Bluestack or Bluestack to window
1) download and intall root explorer on your phone
2) go from your computer
3) My Documents/Downloads and paste there any files
4) now open root explorer n go to this path: sdcard/windows/documents/downloads
5) you will find your file under "Downloads"
so the folder "Downloads" is the only path through which files can be transferred between window(computer) and bluestack..
i cant find the iserdata folder in c:/programefiles/bluestacks

Hello, hopefully I am posting in the correct section.
I want to give my phone app access to write and delete files on my SD card, but unfortunate Android remove this ability in newer android versions, so I found the following thread.
https://android.stackexchange.com/q...ccess-to-external-storage-to-an-app-in-nougat
When I plug the phone into computer, only three folders is found in /data, the system folder is missing. Why ain't all folders shown when accessing through computer?
I found the packages.xml file in using root explorer, which showns all files, I opened it, but I have no idea how to edit it.
Can someone give me a general instruction on how to edit the package.xml?
Thanks.
