Hi,
I have an ATT LG G3. I've got it rooted, have done a NAND backup, and am now trying to flash a new ROM. I'm trying to get into recovery either via ADB or the old fashioned way by button press, but in either case--after commanding the phone to go to recovery--I seem to get stuck in fastboot mode instead. In tiny print it will say something like "processing fastboot commands" or "fastboot mode started" and then just hangs there....forever. I have to remove the battery and then the phone boots back up normally. But I just can't seem to get into recovery anymore.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Frustrated Noob
Power off your device and wait for 5-10 seconds until the device is fully switched off.
Press and hold ‘Volume Down + Power’ buttons together and release them as soon as you see the LG logo on your phone’s screen.
Now immediately press and hold the ‘Volume Down + Power’ buttons again until you see the ‘Hard reset screen’
Press power button once, and then again to confirm hard reset. If you have a custom recovery installed, your phone won’t hard reset and will boot into recovery mode.
Get the app quickboot. Doesn't work with lollipop yet though.

Thanks for replying. If you mean the "factory data reset" prompt, that just brings me to the fastboot screen again. Just tried it. Unless you're referring to another option???

Got it and used the recovery button to reboot, but I'm right back into the fastboot hang screen again.

Sound like u didn't install the bumped twrp. Just download the bumped twrp from the development thread and use flashify to flash it. Easiest way. Or u could follow there instructions. But flashify is easier. If u did already do this. Then I don't know why it's not booting into twrp recovery.

My power button is kinda dead I can shut off the phone and turn it on but going through recovery is impossible. How can I still flash roms

Do you mean that in recovery it will not select items?

I use Fix Broken Pro widget to lock the screen and No Lock app to unlock using volume down button.
I go to recovery using adb or Rom Manager. Then use back, menu, search, home buttons to go back, Scroll Down, Select and Scroll Up respectively.
Yea I can't select options in recovery or it'll continuously select reboot bootloader and I can never get into recovery mode

I guess I need to learn to flash through adb

If you are using cwm recovery, you don't need power button. Touch buttons are enough.
In CWM, do you see a message that says back button has been disabled? Somehow last night this was happening to me but in my case I simply pulled the battery and rebooted and all was fine. If it's acting up in the bootloader though I would suspect you have a hardware issue.

When I hold volume up and the power button to boot into the bootloader I can't select reboot recovery it just keeps selecting reboot bootloader since my power button is messed up

Actually issue resolved thanks to rom manager

Hey guys, while trying to flash CM7, I forgot to wipe all data and my phone gets stuck on the booting screen. So when I try to get into recovery mode, it doesn't go to ClockWorkMod's Recovery, but the default one. The problem is that the power button does not work, so I cannot make any selections to wipe data or anything. Only the volume buttons work.
Please help, I'm a total noob and I just got this phone fixed after dropping it not too long ago!
It does work i freaked out on this as well. Go to your selection and hold the power button until it selects your selection
Its takes a few seconds holding the power button to register. Not sure if it's a bug or just the way it was built to prevent mis-selections

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately holding it down isn't helping so far. I've held it for 60 seconds with no luck.
Then use odin to install a new rom is all i can say.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Does it say button disabled?
Try hard reboot volume up and power button. And of that don't work it's probably hardware related. Maybe a bad button

Odin is for samsung phones...... you have to use nvflash
Read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160364 which is five threads behind this one. The answer is in there on the second page.

Does anything happen when you press the power button?
Thanks guys, I was thinking I might have to do the nvflash method. The power button was working fine previously and it turns the phone on. Got to work then drink tonight but I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow. Happy New Year!
Thanks guys! The NVFlash method worked and my phone is back working again!
Mine is stuck on the Downloading screen, shows it has progressed all the way. No button pressing combination will change anything. .Not good at all. Used Odin to flash the the same CWM recovery everybody else is using. Looks bad here. I have rooted countless Android devices and this is my first fail. Can somebody give me any advice? I just wrecked my wife's birthday gift...
Hold down the power button to restart it.
No dice. Tried that.

If power button for 15 seconds doesn't work, try volume up (in landscape right side of volume button) + power button for 10 seconds.
Held power button down for two minutes and it woke up. Redownloaded custom recovery and flashed with Odin third time. Still get stock Android recovery. Done trying. Thanks for helping though.

if you are still getting the stock recovery 3e follow these steps :
1. When flashing CWM through odin untick the "Auto Reboot" option within Odin.
2. Flash CWM.
3. When done , press power & volume up ( the one apart from power button ) until the Samsung logo appears, then leave both buttons.
4. CWM will appear.
5. Choose "Reboot System now "
6. You will get a new screen with an option mentioning something like " disable bla bla bla " ( can`t remember the exact words ) , press it & reboot.
7. Now if you get back to pressing power & volume up you will have a permanent CWM.
Then you can install root through CWM.

My power button suddenly stop responding. I can tell cause when I'm using volume wake, everything's working fine. The problem is I can't proceed to recovery considering the power button is the only way to activate it. Am I wrong? Is there another way? Wanna restore to a previous ROM backup, just to be sure I didn't hit a wall with my current ROM. Any thoughts guys? Wanna be sure before I have my phone opened up.
Edit: I forgot to mention, I also used fastboot to reboot my phone but it says my phone is offline. Which led me to believe there is more to it than a hardware issue on my phone.

Update: I finally restored my backup using ROM manager and finally get into recovery using the search button as an altrenate for the power button. It looks like my power button is really broken. Will be using volume wake atm. My only concern now is how to get my phone online at fastboot. :-/
You can go to fastboot or recovery using some apps, like one called for CWM Manager. Or even use a command line in ADB.
You can't get fastboot because when the power button breaks it's like if the power button was stuck to ON. That glitches fastboot and you can't scroll to select recovery or anything of the sort.
Oh, thats is true. :/
Can your device power on ? If so use "adb reboot recovery"

Alternative way to go into recovery
Sorry for the late reply guys. I just had my power button replaced, was so busy crack-flashing when 4.2.2 arrived that I failed to come back and thank you all for all your inputs. Appreciate it! Now my only problem is that my phone won't go online using ADB. Well as long as I could go into recovery within the phone using my power button.. I'll concern myself with that in the future. Thanks again guys!

Try flashing a factory image in fastboot. It might clear out some issues..maybe relock and unlock bootloader too after backing up your data if there is time for this operation .
I do it from time to time.

You have to completely wipe everything or things break sometimes. Yes that includes internal storage.
