Hi,
I've bought a Laime l2+ for my son, but it had a Chinese rom installed. I've installed Nova launcher so it's useable, but it doesn't have Google Play which causes problems with some apps that need it to run.
I've looked all over and keep hitting dead ends. How do I go about rooting and installing a rom that includes Gapps?
Any help gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.
Hi!
wich android version are you on? you can download the gapps in a flashable zip to install through cwm. Do you know how to do this or would you like me to guide you through step by step?
Also, when you are in recovery mode, could you make a backup of your current rom? (This is recomended anyway if you're flashing files through cwm for in case somthing went wrong)
And then afterwarth could you sent the backup file to me or http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=6123059 ? It's a file named somthing like "2015-04-24.18.03.57" (but with the date and time you made the backup) and it's on your sd card in the file clockworkmod->backup. The guy I linked to also has a laime l2+ but having bootloop and can only acces cwm. With your backup file, he would be able to make his phone functional again
Please hit thank you, as I'm taking the time to help you

I'm trying to figure out the best way to install a new rom/firmware. Here is the process I have been using to date but I'm sure there must be easier way then doing all this.
1. Reinstall firmware/rom.
2. Check recovery to see if it still works. If it doesn't reinstall it.
3. Install su through recovery if necessary.
4. Install a file manager if necessary.
5. Install titanium backup.
6. Install Apps2SD
7. Install 10 apps at a time (so memory doesn't fill up) then use apps2sd to link to SD card.
8. Check to see if everything is running smoothly. If it's not do a wipe at this point and go back to step 4.
This is a time consuming process and I'm looking for ways to improve the process. Especially at step 7. It takes forever to load the apps then link2sd. Is there another way to do this part so memory doesn't fill up? Even when I check the option to auto link it doesn't auto link when installing apps from titanium.
I don't use nandroid. I've tried it in the past and the restoration usually ends up being pretty buggy. I've spoken to a few friends and they don't do it either. i'm not sure if it's possible that I will brick my phone without doing a nandroid backup but I haven't yet.

Hi,
I have downloaded these files
Retail Indian - 5.5.1-EDEM-28-37-SEARET and Retail Indian - 5.5.1-EDEM-27-SEARET (Indian ROM with some cool features ) and I am dragging and dropping it in RSDLite and uncompressing it.
At the end of uncompressing it, I am getting this message "Please check input file. Either XML format is wrong or image files associated with it are missing."
After clicking OK, the path it displays is C:\IndianRetail-SEARET\system\etc\apns-conf.xml
Please advise. I want to change my rom from AT&T to Indian ROM.

Is that one of cogeary's International ROM's from here? If, so read the instructions in the original post - it is a cwm zip install. You must put it on your sdcard, boot into recovery, wipe data, and "install zip from sdcard"

If its a rom u shouldn't need to rsdlite it should be a restore or flash either cwm. Rsdlite is for fxz files. Correct me if I'm wrong

Little help needed
Thank you for your replies.
I understood few things. I use Sony Xperia S and the procedure is completely different than Motorola.
I want to install custom rom on my sister's phone.
Its an AT&T phone.
I want to install Victory Rom and the instructions he provided are below.
Installation Instructions - THIS IS A INSTALL ZIP (NOT BACKUP)
1.Put zip on sdcard
2.Back Up apps with Titanium backup
3.Make CWM backup
4.Wipe DATA(Factory Format),WIPE Cache and WIPE dalvik cache
5.flash zip
Now I am little confused here,
I will copy this file to SD Card and backup with Titanium
But my phone is not yet rooted and I dont have CWM
I understand CWM can be installed through ROM Manager and to perform Wipe Data should we do it from Settings in the phone or from CWM?
And the last step he mentioned to flash and need help how to do that with which software.
Sorry for so many questions, completely confused with Motorola.
yes its from the same place.
Is "install zip from sdcard" an app?

First of all, go HERE - and read up. You need to first root, then install the bootstrap, then you will be able to get into recovery mode (you don't need the ROM Manager app) - and then experiment with installing new roms/themes/mods.
First, I would recommend making a backup while in recovery mode. Also, possibly install CWM(Recovery) on Boot. Then you can go on to installing new roms... Information on all of this can be found by searching this forum. But, definitely ask if you're not sure of something before trying it. It's definitely a learning process.
Good luck!
Thanks a lot.
I rooted the phone and installed bootstrap and now i can see all the key words I have mentioned in my previous post.
hope I will be able to install custom rom without any problem.
Dear all I want to change my ROM but by your experience I need to have answers for these questions
to have the decision to start or not please help me and thank you all .
First I have LG P500
android : 2.2.2 V10h
kernal version : 2.6.32.9
the phone is rooted
ROM manager is installed and I made a backup in CWM
1) is there any other backup should I have ?
2) is there any risk by installing a new ROM by the CWM / if yes what is the best way ?
3) if i have backed up the Ndrive through titanium backup can I have back in a new ROM ?
4) if I didn't like the new ROM with CWM can I have my old one as it was with Ndrive working good ?
5) what is the best ROM for my phone ?
Thank all for helping me
Note : most what I care is the Ndrive because I use it alot and it help me alot .
if you installed CWM and did a backup, is OK
no risk installing a new rom trough CWM, I have inslalled alot(I didn't try other recovery but if you want someting else search forum for it) any recovery is good, alot of people says that CWM is a liitle old and have some problems, but if it works for you, use it, I didn't have any problem, for installing new rom read careffuly the OP instructions, all of the post(do not miss anything), and it will work, read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901247 but not all roms are included, for that search http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=839 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1545
everything backuped with TITANIUM can be restored if you didn't erased it from sd card, by formating or partitioning(one more tip is to go in titanium folder in sdcard an extract apk manualy and install it), trough TITANIUM install app+data, after restoring do not open app, chooze ok and let TITANIUM restore data for app
yes you can restore the original rom by CWM but some times it will not work propertly, better try another custom rom that you will like(there are alot of them, serch and read feedback)
this is rr0yy (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4689008) post in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1876951
"Go to your SDcard.. search and go to clockworkmod folder.. go to backup.. now whichever file you see.. Rename it xyz or anything WITHOUT any space!!
Try restoring then!! And keep a small name!! Dont use any special characters like $ & # " credits to him(good hint)
if you encounter problems with restoring a rom trough CWM
I like ICS, but you can search to see what suits you, ICS is good for O1 despite of ram usage, I like it more than GB(old), JB is too large for me and my phone memory
thanks but one more

thanks but one more question the app ndrive is it now working good with new ROM ??
You shouldn't have any compatibility problems with NDrive. I'd recommend that you flash a rom, test the apps you need and if they don't work, flash another rom.

I have tested NDrive on lots of ICS roms and it's working fine, haven't tried it on JB tho.
I'm sure this has been resolved in some other thread but I just can't find the right one. So please spare 10 seconds for a reply and help me.
I have a HTC HD2, with Gingerbread HD2 v2.1, Android 2.3.2 installed. I was looking for a way to uninstall the Facebook system app (somebody thought it was a good idea to add Facebook as a system app )
I had the Jellybean 4.2 installed before I downgraded because it would just take too much space. And now apparently my phone is not rooted anymore (hence not being able to uninstall system apps).
I'm a noob when it comes to Android so please bear with me. I found a script (customizable), archived on a ZIP file, that will delete any system app even if the phone is not rooted.
But when I go into recovery mode, the option "Install ZIP from SD Card" seems to be missing. How can I install the ZIP file if the option is not there?
P.S. If you know a better way to uninstall system apps from an unrooted phone, please share it.

I suppose you tried to install that zip to root your device, right.?
Try a different, new and safe recovery. Root the device. Install titanium backup app. using it you can uninstall the system app.

No actually, that ZIP file contained a script that would uninstall some system apps. I can't uninstall them otherwise because it says my phone is not rooted anymore.

It is a bit difficult to download from this site but there are several tutorials on the internet that show you how to download without having to create an account and also how to bypass the speed limit. What worked most for me was downloading a script for tampermonkey.
To flash this ROM you need to have your bootloader unlocked and a custom recovery.
Its simple to flash it just download the rom and put in a sdcard (more safe because sometimes the recovery don't show the internal memory) or the internal memory of the device.
Reboot to the recovery and perform a wipe just wipe the systen, data, cache and dalvik cache nothing more.
Be carefull and always have an backup saved before doing everything.
After the wipe, go to flash and select the location of the zip file then select it and chose confirm.
After this the rom will be istalled in your device and you can reboot to the MIUI.
