[Q] Moto G 1032 GPE stuck boot after 5.0.1 OTA - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
i woke up with update reminder on my GPE moto g 1032 (unlocked bootloader, no root), that OTA 5.0.1 is available, downloaded (through the night) and clicked on "reboot and install".
It started installing and the installation bar was in its cca 80% when the phone rebooted and showed google logo with the symbol of unlocked lock - and nothing more ; it stays here for 1 hour maybe
what do i do? ( is it bricked? what should i do please?

I'm stuck at the Google logo, and I tried flashing the 4.4.4 img but it didn't work. Erasing cache or anything didn't work either

It will not work because of the new bootloader. Just follow this tutorial.

i reinstalled my motorola drivers, what to do next?

I was having the same issue and the solution above did work for me. as well. I am now successfully booted into 4.4.4

Sounds like you don't have the ADB driver installed.
I had to manually point the device driver from Device Manager. You may need to install Android SDK as well as Motorola Drivers. If the device is listed in device manager but with the wrong driver you need to manually force install the Moto ADB driver from the list.
Also keep in mind that the device needs to be ready for the ADB before it is even detected on your PC as an ADB device. So boot into Recovery and select ADB Sideload from the Recovery menu before running the command on the computer.

Try to install universal adb drivers - https://github.com/koush/UniversalAdbDriver

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My dear friend.... I LOVE YOU!!!! It worked... after installed universal adb drives (from the link that you provided above), unpluged and pluged in my phone (it was recognized like a nexus, but it is a Moto G xt1032) but adb sideload <xxxxx.zip> worked!!!! I was able to install 5.0.1 following this tutorial.
THANK YOU!!!!

[Solved] motog recovery not working in bootloader

Hi, my 1st post, halloworld
I rooted my xt1032 using Paul O’Brien metod : r1-motog-modifiedrecoveryroot, with a modified recovery.
I'm rooted but when I try to go to recovery from bootloader the phone just normally boots.
So no way to make a nandroid backup, a wipe cache and so on...
I suppose it's becouse I followed a guide for 4.3 while I was already updated to 4.4
My question is, could I have any problem flashing the correct version of cwm for kitkat, after the modified recovery I used for rooting?
welcome suggestiones
When your in boot loader select the recovery option and press the up volume to get to recovery
Sent from my XT1034 using xda app-developers app
That's what I did(100times...), with vol.up yes, not with power button. What I get is a normal reboot. No way to go in recovery, event tried from adb or fastboot in a windows shell.
No one having this problem with recovery?

It's probably caused by the recovery not being compatible with your bootloader.
What version of the bootloader are you on? That custom recovery might only work with 4.3 only.
You can easily change your bootloader with the mfastboot and extracting the motoboot.img from the (correct) stock rom image.
well, my bootloader should be the one of Kitkat, for I upgraded from 4.3 just before rooting.
I could change bootloader as you told me, but what about compatibility with 4.4 rom?
My idea was just to change the recovery, with cwm 6.0.4.7 that's now compatible with motog 4.4,
but what about my actual root configuration?
I don't actually know what I risk doing this way, or if I need a wipe data.
Which are the right steps?

I think the best way is to flash a compatible recovery via fastboot. No need to wipe anything. Your root won't be broken afaik.

Yes, I would try flashing CWM 6.0.4.7-falcon as well. It works for both 4.3 and 4.4 bootloader (I tried myself.)
If just flashing the bootloader, you don't need to wipe anything ..
Well, I'll do it with cwm, after weekend. Thanks for suggestions

All so good - very nice
I flashed recovery.img from my stock reatil en-GB xml.zip , now from fastboot i can go to recovery, that actually in kitkat is just the green robot with red warning -> from here pressing VOL UP and Clicking POWER button I can get stock recovery menu.
What's good that I tried and finally could INSTALL last minor 176.44.1 UPDATE !

I have tested it on the xt1023 but from what i am told it should work on all models because supersu.zip is universal and same with TWRP if i am not mistaken.
doesn't reboot into recovery
Everything seems ok during the process but when the phone reboots it stays in the Motorola logo/Android screen, never moving on to TWRP. This also happened when I tried the normal Fastboot method. Bootloader is unlocked and usb debugging is checked, of course.
Any ideas?
edit:
More info-
1. The only command that seems to work on my phone is when I install stock recovery.
2. When I go into bootloader and try to restart in any mode but normal restart I get a blank screen
3. I previously bricked my phone by doing something stupid so I reflashed one of the factory firmwares-
RETUAWS_XT1023_4.4.2_KXC20.82-15_cid9_CFC.xml
Could this be the source of my problem?
Thanks in advance!

Hey guys. My little brother just got a Moto E, and I'm trying to get it rooted/Recovery'd.
I'm using your toolkit, but so far, no luck. Doesn't want to root, nor install recovery. It's stuck on "waiting for device".
I don't know what's wrong. I checked that USB debugging was on, and he unlocked his bootloader earlier. Everything should be fine.
But, it doesn't work.
Could someone provide some help, please ?
Thanks.
Did you extract the zip to your desktop? And are the right drivers installed also try using a different USB cable or port.

How to root 11.0-XNPH30O?

Problem: I cannot root on 30O.
I have revived my OnePlus One from a soft-brick because I was trying to update from 25R to 30O from the rooted phone. Please refer to forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/how-to-update-to-11-0-xnph30o-t2847037for more info. I have learned so much from it.
So after the soft brick, I restored it to 22R. Then an update came in for 25R, I followed the instructions to root the phone, root checker confirmed that I was indeed rooted. (I thought I still had TWRP) so I updated to 30O. I read that the 30O has another update after it, but I still have not received that update yet. When updated to 30O, I realized I can't use titanium back up anymore, and I no longer have SuperUser.
So I followed this video to do the root once again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5O2e_R_TbVg&list=UUk1SpWNzOs4MYmr0uICEntg. But to no avail it doesn't seem to root. When I reboot into recovery mode, TWRP is also gone instead it shows the stock CM11S recovery.
The main reason, I wanted to upgrade to 30O was to be up-to-date, I got my wish! It's kind of ironic. But I still want to be rooted once more. If anyone can help, thank you in advance.
I will check this thread again tomorrow, I thank you for all that XDA members especially vamshi88 has been so persistent in helping me. These have been stepping stones for me as an Android user.
Is your bootloader unlocked? It should if you had twrp installed. Why don't you install twrp with fastboot and then simply flash supersu zip?

HOW TO INSTALL TWRP AND ROOT ASUS ZENFONE MAX (Z010D) Android 6.0.1 [ww_13.8.26.31 ]

the step by step guideline is like these :
UPDATE
Due to the fact that Asus has finally released the bootloader unlock utility for the device , you can now flash twrp and root without using a beta kernel as described above in this post , what is now needed is just to download the unlock bootloader apk from here http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Ze...8.1970894933.1503698507-1463517309.1503322403 ,unlock the device , after that use the same process and commands to flash twrp directly , after that , root using the same files as described below.
INSTALLATION OF TWRP
1. download minimal ADB and fastboot from here https://yadi.sk/d/JuXDyaWLsitGv and install with icon on desktop.
2. dowload the custom recovery image from here https://yadi.sk/d/kT5i3rNksitPD
3. enable usb debugging ,connect to PC and boot into fastboot mode.
4. start minimal ADB and enter the following commands :
Code:
fastboot devices
hit enter button
Code:
fastboot flash recovery
after inputing this command press the space key on the keyboard and drag the recovery .img file to the command prompt window OR enter the directory of the recovery.img file.
5. wait for everything to be done , it might come up with a message saying ""FAILED(remote:cant flash unsigned image)" , don't worry about that .
6. IMPORTANT! POWER OFF THE DEVICE BY LONG PRESSING THE POWER BUTTON AND BOOT STRAIGHT INTO RECOVERY BY PRESSING VOLUME DOWN(-),IF YOU ALLOW THE DEVICE TO BOOT TO NORMAL SCREEN AT FIRST BOOT,THE STOCK RECOVERY WILL BE RESTORED !!
7. after booting into TWRP you can now boot into normal screen and thats it folks , you're done
ROOT
1. download the superSU file from here https://yadi.sk/d/Yhm6fnohsiugr and flash from recovery , done

Thanks a lot for your help.
Just an important message regarding this thread
Please note that this tutorial only works for the older Asus Zenfone Max not the newer version with the Snapdragon 615. Don't apply this procedure on the new upgraded hardware device or you will face many problems.

Hi again, I've followed the instructions, and now my phone is successfully rooted.
Thanks everyone , especially "jide1" for creating this useful post.
Hey mates.
1) Is it necessary to flash the RAW beta file first? I've had no luck flashing the TWRP over the OTA stock update.
2) is it possible to do a FLASHALL from a Linux environment? I noticed that FASTBOOT had a FLASHALL command, but i'm not sure if it requires a ZIPped file or can work with a RAW image.

1. Is usb debugging enabled ? , pls check
2. is the device recognized ? to check this , install minimal adb and fastboot (link in the OP) then enter these command : fastboot devices after entering the command, the serial number of the device should appear , if you dont see the serial number , then :
3. install all drivers (adb , android usb drivers , etc )

It seems you did not read the guide carefully, after flashing TWRP,disconnect cable from pc ,turn off device by long pressing power button , then boot directly into recovery without allowing the device to boot into home screen at first boot.

No I did it completely the same as guide. But I see now, my version is 13.8.16.36, and it's very hard to load a custom recovery without unlocking bootloader

you probably mean version 13.8.26.36 and not 13.8.16.36 , the method works equally on firmware version 13.8.26.36 the most important thing is just to change the kernel version , you're probably doing something wrong.

Thanks a lot. Very informative.
Do I need to have an unlocked bootloader for that?
I have enough time not to use rsd lite, I feel more secure with the command method

I've been using rsdlite since non-smartphone era (my first moto was the c390) and it had saved my bricked phones countless time.
gbt.bin file failed

gpt.bin usually related to partition table and your phone probably has an updated partition table newer than the one in the stock rom. If possible, get the latest stock rom, I heard that x play has received stock Nougat update probably you could flash that

7.1.1 Out Now!!

I know this is an old thread but I am trying to flash my 1926-7 Moto G4 Plus Retail Latin version.
I am able to reboot it using RSD Lite and then the phone goes into fastboot mode:
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (secure)
OEM_Locked
Console: Null
TRansfermode : USB connected
I must be missing a step, I also noticed that the RSD Lite Vanishes and yet in the task manager it still shows SDL.exe running for a while then vanishes.
But in the program it changes state:
I'm using the latest Version of RSD
Thanks in advance.
