OKay, trying to go back to stock. Problem is M8 is encrypted.
I select decrypt when entering password. But it just reboots and logs me in... as usual. Still encrypted
I went to TWRP and it shows that the internal storage is 0mg No data to install get to,
I have tried to fastboot ROM and stock recovery. But keep getting error that it fails. I think it fails because it cannot see the files.
How to decrypt phone to go back to stock. I cannot even get stock recovery on device. Ugh! What am I missing here.
BTW no option in setting to decrypt. Once encrypted I can only change password.
Going back to stock from what?
TWRP cannot see an encrypted data partition. AFAIK your only option is to format /data in TWRP (which will erase everything on your internal storage).
You cannot fastboot a rom and I wonder what you did exactly trying to fastboot flash the stock recovery.....

I fixed issue... by going into recovery and wiping data

I was able to unlock the device and install CWM. I wasn't paying attention when i did a wipe, and didn't see it was unable to wipe /data and several other locations. Its probably because its encrypted. I thought it would have asked for the password to access those areas to wipe them. So i just went ahead and flashed Cyanogenmod 10 nightly build. Now it wont boot past asus logo. The backup wont work ether. Is there a way to flash a rom on an encrypted tablet? or remove the encryption?

I fixed the issue
-erased the data using fastboot -w
-Tried again to flash CM10 with no luck
-then i just downloaded and extracted the blob from stock rom
- the flashed using fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system blob
Then the problem was resolved and the encryption was gone(apparently fastboot -w gets rid of the encryption as well as all other data) . I am guessing the CM10 i was using was corrupted or something.
So I encrypted my moto 4g and all went fine. However I wanted to flash and install an app via my recovery(my device is rooted and I got custom recovery but I'm on stock rom) but It kept saying it could not access the data of the phone. I figured this was because it is encrypted. I also tried restoring an older backup from when the phone was not encrypted but that would not work either. If I do a factory wipe in recovery that won't work either. If I enter the Android settings and choose data wipe the phone starts to bootloop.
What can I do to decrypt my phone?
Did you encrypt the phone using stock recovery?
No I encrypted with the custom recovery.
Have you tried to erase cache and userdata using fastboot commands?

No I have not, haven't had time to try, I assume here are some guides about it and I will look into it when I have time.
Just wanted to say that I fixed it, had to reflash the whole device with flashboot, then I re rooted it and restored an backup.
Glad it worked out for you.
What is the expert method to deep clean, wipe every thing my OPO and than flash a ROM?

You can flash the stock images via fastboot, that will erase everthing and get you back to stock. You can then install a custom recovery and flash roms again.

No need to prior Wipe data, Factory reset, Wipe all storage etc?
Thanks.

There is a command to wipe user data, see the below guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2839471
Reason!
Thanks for your expert replies.
The reason for asking was and is for you to know in depth what happened.
My OPOs BL is unlocked and rooted.......at times try other ROMs like Hydrogen, RR, etc.
I was surprised to see and empty Baidu folder size 80 bytes shown by ES File manger, after I flashed back COS 12.
The way I flash is firstly reboot to TWRP, Format > type yes, than Factory reset, than Advanced Wipe ALL except OTG, power off the OPO.
Power on in fastboot mode, connect to pc and flash COS ROM using those commands.
All is good, except the empty Baidu Folder, fail to understand how did it persist.
Other thing is when I later flash TWRP over stock, and than when I perform a factory reset before flashing another ROM, see red SD card errors? ........have to keep rebooting to TWRP.
The way I flash is TWRP > Format type yes > Factory reset > Wipe all except OTG > Mount OTG-USB containing the zip, install zip swipe flash > once done > Reboot. (before reboot don't clear dalvik and cache).
If I take screen capture of TWRP they wont be saved in Gallery.
TWRP 2.7.8.0 when flashed on start up showed this.........
"TWRP has detected an unmodified partition. TWRP can leave your partition unmodified to make it easier for you to take official updates. TWRP will be unable to prevent the stock ROM from replacing from replacing TWRP and will not offer to root your device. installing zips or performing adb operations may still modify the system partition.
Never show this screen during boot again."
To sum up my queries are:
1. How can I perform a deep clean of OPO, and than flash COS 12 using fastboot, so I don't see any Baidu etc empty folders.
2. Than flash TWRP and and if needed can take it's screen captures.
3. Later if required can flash new custom ROM with out issues.
Bottom line to clean my OPOs Storage that includes SD card.
Btw my OPO isn't giving any issues or bugs and working great, no EFS issues etc.........
After reading all care to edit/correct what am I doing incorrect?
Thanks again.

I have seen people querying the Baidu folder before (i have it myself), it seems to be a folder left by ES file explorer, have you ever installed that? It doesnt seem to be anything malicious, although a lot people were spooked, thinking it was spyware of some sort.

Below is the command for flashing the userdata file via fastboot. If you have downloaded the fastboot image files, I think it basically pushes a blank file to overwrite/format the user data space/parition.
Code:
fastboot flash userdata userdata_64G.img
How do I do this? No access to /sdcard in recovery mode, can't even wipe the phone in recovery. How can you install a new ROM when the phone is encrypted? Running CWM.
EDIT: Will a factory data reset get rid of the device encryption and enable me to install the updated ROM from recovery mode? I don't mind losing the data.

try using twrp. read somewhere it supported encryption. not sure though.
best bet would be disable encryption. flash the rom and encrypt again. its a work around not the solution you want though.
You can't disable encryption on Android. Unfortunately, TWRP won't work for me, as I need a custom recovery that is controllable with volume buttons (like CWM), because of a broken screen.
Fastboot flash back to stock.
Okay, I'm not sure if this entirely the right place. Have updated to Viper 2.1.0. Rebooted my phone, as I do each morning. It came up with needing to to enter a decryption key, ie; my password. Did said & it failed saying that data is corrupt. TWRP can no longer read the data portion either. Therefore can't wipe it in TWRP.
Is there a way to format or wipe the data partition through either fastboot or adb?
Factory reset but your data will be gone.

Try this, Venom helped with it a while ago and it worked, you will just have to re activate smart lock in google setting.
TWRP-Advanced-File Browser.
Navigate to /data/system and delete the locksettings.db.
I got my phone back from HTC after repair my phone screen and they wiped my custom rom and recovery but still have unlocked bootloader and restore oreo 8.0.
I managed to re-install twrp and tried to install a customed rom and experienced the same "decryption unsuccessful". But there is no lockingsettiings.db in the folder.
I will later try this method and report.... been a frustrating day....
