Trouble with keyboards - Note Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the 915G and am having troubles with using keyboards other than the one that comes standard.
The problem is clicking any button on the left side 1, q, a are very hit and miss which is very annoying, my preferred keyboard is Smart Keyboard Pro which does it, have tried others and they do it to
Any help would be appreciated

I only use the default keybaord, but I use to use swipe.
Have you tried the calibration?
It should bee on there in the settings. It will have you type a sentence to help map the buttons better.

Word suggestion

I've had my touch pro for a few days now after upgrading from a wm6.1 Tytn II but no matter what i try i can't get word suggestion to come up with anything when using on-screen keyboard. I've gone through all the settings i can think of. Anybody else having this trouble?
Same here. Tried in the regular settings, as well as in Advanced Config, but to no avail...
Ok here is a fix that i found. When you turn on the on screen qwerty keyboard you have to switch off t9 and switch it to abc. This has worked for me for both on screen and hardware keyboard. Hope this helps

Standard keyboard does have any word completion dictionaries installed for the Diamond or the touch Pro.
If you want word completion, you need to use the full QWERTY htc keyboard, not the standard WinMo keyboard.
Problem persists...
Turned off T9, switched to "ABC", ans I am using the hardware keyboard. The same problem persists. The black line still appears at the bottom of the screen, when I type something it appears both at the "correct" location plus on the bottom black line. If I make the mistake of using the keyboard arrows - crash boom bang. A lot of words appear near my cursor. And the funny part is that I always have to read my SMS before sending it: this magnificent auto completion method somehow finds a way of adding unwanted words somewhere in the message body. It is *very* annoying.
I don't always use English when I type a message, and, horror: sometimes I even don't use punctuation, because I'm in a hurry.
Did you try to go in the T9 options and untick everything, and go in settings -> Inout -> Word completion and untick everything as well?
Full QWERTY and T9 on for me works!!!

Now that there's no more track ball..

Just wondering, I have a Desire now with an S on the way. Being very bad at typing on my mobile I often use the trackball to go back mid sentence and make corrections. My winmo phones had extra arrow keys on the keyboard to accomplish the same thing. Is there a way to do this on the Desire S or will I have to back space through all the text to make corrections?
Thanks
you need to use the screen to backspace back like that. like the iphone were it zooms in on text as u hold and touch.
OK so the zooming makes it easier to select the location? Never used an iphone but maybe I'll go check out my buddy's just to see. My S will be here in 2 days so I will be able to see first hand, I was just wondering what to expect.
Thanks for the reply.
edit- I just checked out my friend's iphone. He wasn't even aware of this feature. Seems to work pretty well. Thanks so much, I probably wouldn't have found this on my own.
It's not quite as slick as the same feature is on the iphone and unfortunately its slightly buggy at times, but still very useful.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Or just install Smart Keyboard Pro...where you can enable directional arrows (up, down, left, right) very handy.

Good to know, thanks.
I personally prefer the swype application as a sense keyboard replacement, find it much easier and faster for input, it doesn't have directional arrows but you don't really need them as you can use
your thumb for cursor placement

you can also just press in the location mid sentence and the cursor will go there. might take a few tries to get spot on, but definitely the way to go instead of backspacing the entire sentence and starting over lol. just press the spot you want to go to.
or use the fancy zoom in thing the guys already said.

[Q] Word prediction

so has anybody else noticed that the word prediction (when having the phone keyboard set to regular touch input and not Swype) doesn't regularly show up when using the hardware keyboard?
I've noticed that, in order to get the word prediction going when using the hardware keyboard, I'll first have to close the keyboard, start typing with the on-screen keyboard to initiate the word prediction, and then open the keyboard and resume typing, at which point the word prediction continues..does anybody else have this issue?
I havent noticed that yet. Although most of the time I enter a program and after I get frustrated trying to type on screen I switch to keyboard.
I remember having a similar issue, although it only seemed to happen to me when entering into the messaging app sometimes. It was a mild annoyance. However, it completely went away when I installed swiftkey X. I highly recommend you get it. Imo more than worth the money. It's the fastest and most accurately predicting keyboard I've tried, particularly with hardware support.
It doesn't seem to be working for me very well, but do make sure you enabled correction by going to:
Settings > Language & Keyboard >Touch Input > Hardware Keyboard Settings > Prediction.

Hi Sinfamy, thanks, I did make sure that that setting was enabled. The prediction does show up, but again, only after I've first started typing with the touch keyboard in portrait mode first...if I start off an email or SMS with the hardware keyboard open, the prediction never kicks in.
I'm also gonna give swiftkey x a try and see if that helps.
swiftkey x is working great, and it seems like it'll be really good with its predictions too...thanks for the suggestion!
The best thing about SwiftKey is that it only gets better the more you use it! Keep in mind that although you cannot enter your personal dictionary and edit it like you can with other keyboards, if a prediction you don't like keeps popping up, you can press and hold the prediction to remove it.

nice, thanks for the tip napilopez..
is anybody else using keyboard manager to switch between keyboards for landscape and portrait, and finding predictions not showing up properly?

CM 11 on Note Pro - Almost Perfect

First, just want to say thanks for the development on the Note Pro. CM on this thing is awesome. That said, I still have a couple of lingering issues, hoping someone may have found some work arounds/solutions. Inevitably there will be someone that will reply with "USE THE SEARCH!". For those that do, I will offer you my sincere admiration. Your search foo is only exceeded by your wit. For those that are still willing to read on and assist, know that I've come up empty in my search attempts. Believe me, I'd rather have found a simple search result than to have typed all this up... In any case:
1. Hardware keys and navbar -
CM has a setting for "Enable on-screen navigation bar and disable hardware buttons". Checking this box enables the navbar, but fails to actually disable the capacitive and physical buttons. This causes me some grief when using the tablet in portrait mode. I've tried hacking around in the build.prop and the Generic.kl files, but haven't found that magical combination of new lines/commented out lines. Maybe CM does this differently than other roms? (I've not observed a difference in these files when toggling back and forth in the settings, so there must be something else I'm missing.) Any pointers?
2. Key Mapping -
I have the Logitech Pro Keyboard Case. Seems to work well, for the most part. (I'm typing on it now...) However, not all of the keys work. Example - there are keys on the top left row for "back", "menu" and "task switching". Nothing appears to happen when pressing these now. Again, probably something in a .kl file somewhere, but I'm coming up empty. There doesn't appear to be a Vendor-Specific.kl file, but Generic.kl doesn't seem to cut it either.
3. On-Screen keyboard still displays when using bluetooth keyboard.
Well, that about says it all really. I've tried using both the Google keybard, and SwiftKey. Both continue to show up on-screen, even though I'm typing on the bluetooth keyboard. Swiftkey even tells me that it cannot detect a physcial keyboard. Probably related to the key mapping issue from above, but...
Again, thanks for all the work on this. Having CM saved my tablet from it's date with eBay.
Thanks!

1. i thought about it but now i haven't spare time to implement. next week maybe.. but i dont promise
2. and 3. try this programm https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelper

Thanks! I'll give the app a shot. I'm concerned that it seems to replace any other keyboard though. I'd like to find a way to keep SwiftKey's corrections/prediction functionality. Nevertheless, I'll give it a go.

Hey, try going with Null Keyboard, enable all your keyboards, and switch between them depending on whether the device is connected or not

Hard to type with Gboard and Full Screen Gesture On.

Gboard in it's tallest mode is still a lot below on the screen. Because of the bad weight management, I have to keep my two fingers above the half of the phone to be able to type properly and it's making it impossible to type one handed.
If I however turn on the navigation buttons and turn off full screen gestures, I cam type comfortably.
Can you find a solution to this?
Either something that props us just beneath the keyboard while typing, or another keyboard that's as close to Gboard as possible(Maybe a Mod). I don't want to turn off gesture navigation. It saves a lot of time for me.
Also, what about the same experience on Lineage OS or any other Custom Rom if anyone has tried those. I mean do Linegae OS natively has swipe from half screen to go back feature.

Try SwiftKey keyboard... It can go way more taller than gboard plus it is 90% similar to gboard

Swift key helped. I bumped up the keyboard a bit up. I don't like the placement of the symbols on this keyboard though. Still waiting for Gboard to do something like this.
