[Q] Is this possible with Tasker? - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
First i wanna apologize if I didn't post this thread in the right forum as it's my very first time posting on XDA.
Now what I'd like to do is that when a word is highlighted, no matter the app (in the internet browser is preferred, am using Chrome) there's a menu with definitions for that word that pops up.
I've seen Google doing similar within their newsstand app, when you highlight a word you get its definition from Google dictionary live.
For the record I'm using Tasker on my Xperia z1 c6906, unrooted with Rogers wireless in Canada.
Thanks for your help

[REQUEST] Customised home page

While browsing i found a perfect homepage for mobile devices.. its called iphome.
Unfortunately i cannot post links as im new here, but a quick Google of "elastic threads iphome" (remember to tell google to search for iphome not iphone!)
I was wondering if someone who is not useless at web coding (like me!) could optimise the html for our screen resolution (480x800).
Apologies if i have posted this in the incorrect section. Thanks!

[Completed] Support for the official XDA forum app?

Hi,
I am looking for the right place to get support for the official XDA developer app on android.
I could not identify where I can get this here on the site.
I looked here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps
and here: http://www.xda-developers.com/xda-android-app/
but neither provided a clear location where to ask questions about the app.
My question is how to add favorite forums/threads in the app (or on the web for that matter). There is a heart symbol on top the the app screen and I have no idea how to use that.
thanks!

Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist.
You can subscribe to any forum or thread. To do that from the mobile app, simply click on the start (or heart) symbol that appears on the status bar while you're viewing that forum or thread, or long-press on the thread/forum name and select "subscribe" from the menu.. To view your subscribed threads from a browser, go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/subscription.php. For each subscription, you can select various options such as whether you want to be informed of new post by email weekly, daily, immediately or not at all. If you select not to be notified, the subscribed threads/forums become a list of "favorites" to which you can refer quickly. For matters dealing with the xda-developers.com site or any of it components and tools, visit the "About xda-developers.com" forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/about-xda. If you have specific questions about the XDA Android Apps, ask in the "XDA Android App - Problems / Bugs / Feature Requests etc." thread there at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841646.
Good luck!
Thanks for the reply & help! I was not aware that "favorites" = "subscriptions". I was looking for another button to make a forum a favorite. It's clear now.

[Completed] Can aspx-based sites function properly on smartphones?

I ask this because the site I have to be able to visit and function 24/7 is aspx-based. Here is some details to understand my issue.
The site is an affiliate-type one and I transfer money from once bank account to users, and I have to do it, when they ask it.
So, it's not a big deal for me to do that, when I'm at my workplace or my home, but I have life and I cannot be 16 hours a day at home. When I tried to access the website from my smartphone (TCL 5042D) using Chrome and Firefox and Browser (phone's own browser)(I encountered the same problem at the same spot from all 3 of them-I'll explain the problem right now), I logged in just fine. The customer's accounts are in one page and from there simply press the + or - buttons (depends on what the customer wants) and then a popup will appear, having a 2 boxes that I have to write the amount of money and a description for the transaction. As soon as I press to the boxes, the smartphone zooms as it supposed to be (in order to see what you're typing) and the popup dissapears from the screen disabling me to press the ok and to put description.
What, do you believe? Could it be a bad-written aspx site, or is it natural to react that way? And what do you suggest?
(English is not my mother language, and if you find any difficulty to comprehend the text above, post to the thread your question, in order to clarify what you didn't understand)

[Completed] LGL15g... We... the less fortunate.!

Firstly, allow me to thank the wonderful people here at xda for a great site that that obviously helps out so many folk with such diverse problems.!
Okay... I am originally versed and quite happy with my LG G2 (ATT rooted.. again thanx xda) but without finances to replace my broken touch screen, I have been on an extended temporary demotion to the cheapiest Android I could find... the StraightTalk LGL15g.
Trying once again to have 'free reign' over my OS (4.4.2 kitkat, same as the aforementioned G2) I rooted with chainfire's xda's link to Supersu (marked as 'stable'). It seemed to work fine with little to no obvious problems although very limited acess to files through Sqlite... then slowly deteriated in stability and is now resident to some very fustrating behaviours that I cannot find resolve for:
1) web pages 'refreshing' if I try to use an app or another web browser tab... and losing all my work (if the page had forms), and everything I had typed in 'reply' text boxes.
2) I can no longer upload photos to webpages oras attachments on emails.
The same 'refreshing' takes place. e.g. On facebook or other date sites that I use.. I click 'upload photo'... the file browser opens and I browse and select normally.. but when I 'ok it' instead of the upload process beginning, I am back to a refreshed page where I am prompted to 'upload photo' again.
ANY help, advice, or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.!
~ Cheryl
Incidentals...
Incidentally, it is the reason I have no 'profile photo' or avatar on my account here

[SOLVED. kind of] The forum's "Search this thread" function does not seem to work as intended.

Hi all,
I am facing the following phenomenon: I'm looking at some forum thread, say with 50 pages or so. At the top right I see a button labeled "Search this thread". Sounds like a useful tool to quickly search that thread for a certain term. I click that button, type in my search term(s) and underneath a drop down box with OTHER threads, which I do not want to search appears. Often times the thread I'm currently looking at doesn't even show up in that list underneath the search box.
So, what am I doing wrong? With the search feature as it is, I truly have a hard time finding things.
Thank you very much in advance. Driving me nuts.
@rogerwilco75 A similar question has been raised here. Maybe the replies there answer also your question?
@Oswald Boelcke Thank you for the link.
I was using a Chromium-based desktop browser and observed this somewhat inconsistent behavior on both Linux and Windows.
I will make a comparison using FF, and then both browsers with their extensions/addons enabled (most likely uMatrix and/or uBlock Origin to "interfere". DecentralEyes or HTTPSEverywhere not so much I guess), in a private window/tab and with more lowered "shields" settings in the respective browsers (cookies, trackers, DNT ...).
Back to the original question: once or twice clicking the "Search this thread" led to exactly that, then on some other occasions it didn't. I'll have to figure out that pattern.
Anyway, thanks once again for the link, since it let me get around using the ...drum roll... search function.
I guess this can be marked as "SOLVED... kind of", since I'll need to look into it deeper and get more data points/a clearer view.
