[Q] Lost touch screen, how to retrieve data? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hey guys,
I have an HTC One XL with TWRP and Pac rom's 4.4.4 and about a week ago my touch went out. Hoping it was the digitizer, I got one but that wasn't it. I believe it's the mainboard since it doesn't even work in recovery mode.
Well anyway, I got a new phone, LG G flex, and I would really like my data out of the one X. (Pics, messages, etc)
Is there any way to take it out not having to use the touch or the soft buttons?
And I know it's been asked before but I tried the similars and got nothing.

Theres numerous remote control apps in the app store that will let you remotely control your android device from a pc eitger wirelessly or over usb. Also, if you just want to get data off there's just using the usb cable to access the phone storage.
Web key app may be worth a try.

The latest versions of TWRP are MTP enabled, so if you can flash that and then connect the phone to your PC while booted into recovery it'll be as simple as using Windows Explorer to copy your data across.

I'm gonna bring this up again since last time produced no results.
I can't instal softwares without touch. But that TWRP option seemed viable.
Can someone elaborate on that?

Put the phone into fastboot mode, unlock the bootloader (if it isn't already), flash TWRP recovery, boot into TWRP recovery, connect to PC.

I have TWRP installed on my GS5. I can't see my screen so I think I've booted to it and it's plugged in, but I'm not getting my usb connection. Could you tell me the sequence of volume keys to press to mount MTP? Or why isn't it happening automatically?

[Q] Can not enter APX mode. Bricked?

I posted this in general as well, but figured I'd post it in Q&A.
I was going to install the Revolution rom and downloaded the super wipe. I ran it through Clockwork-mod (mistake) and didn't realize that I can't mount my external SD card in CWM. After running super wipe the tablet only boots into recovery. I can not get my tablet to boot into APX mode. On my PC it does not even show that the tablet is connected. My /data is missing completely. Is there a way to fix this? Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: Running CWM Touch 5.8.0.2

if the PC isn't seeing anything at all when you plug it in while it's in recovery, then it's a connection issue. Try another PC, and if it's still not seen, it's probably your cable, which is why you can't see the tablet in APX mode as well

It's not the cable. It was working fine prior to trying to do what I stated in the first post.
ADB could see it ... try.. if it can you can adb push or install twrp

Then it's a timing/driver issue of getting into APX mode and getting it recognized. You can't wipe or remove or brick APX mode, without seriously trying. It would involve booting the tablet using some very hacked script to use the primary partition table instead of the use accessible secondary table, as APX is stored in a partition that is more or less untouchable
Just plug it into your computer, and hold down power and volume up. Hold it down for like a solid 45 seconds, even if it keeps rebooting, If after you hold power and volume up, the screen eventually goes black, then you're in APX. Open up device manager on your pc and look for any new or unrecognized devices, if nothing then try a different usb port. But a superwipe script definitely did not alter your apx mode, I can promise you that
And if that still doesn't work, try a different PC. If that still doesn't work, then I'm still betting it's the cable. When's the last time you used it for data transfer, and not charging? They do go bad. If recovery is mounted and successfully booting, then its ADB server is running. Which, if you make a working connection to a PC, will be seen
Hi ultmontra08,
Are you sure it isn't the cable?
I ran into this issue as well, I was stuck in recovery mode http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1913905
If the cable is charging the tablet, it doesn't mean that it can't be defective still.
The computer should detect the device in recovery mode and apx mode. In my issue it didn't detect my device in recovery mode at all.
Until I got a new cable, I was able to see my device show up in Device Manager while it was in recovery mode.
I was able to narrow it down to being the cable because it would not show up on 3 different computers.

I caved and purchased a new sync cable from amazon and it fixed the issue of not being seen by the PC! I've seen other posts about cables going bad, but I didn't think it would do any good. I just restored the newest stock image and I'm going to keep it there until I get a Google Nexus tablet in the future. It's interesting that these cables go bad. I've had the same iPod usb cable for six years and have never had a problem with it.

[Q] Connectivity to PC issue post BOOT-Loop

Hello Lovely people of XDA,
It has been a while since I have requested help here due to the huge library of information available but I am unable to solve this one and I think it should be pretty simple.
For completeness, here is the order of events:
ROOTed One and running stock CM11s with no problems since August 2014.
Wanted a smoother system so flashed vanilla Franco Kernel (very nice) yesterday.
Wanted a bit more so after some searching, found the SlimSaber ROM with TyrV74-Linaro Kernel as a suitable choice.
Now, I followed order of install but stupidly, didnt clear the cache or dalvik cache following install.
I got stuck in boot loop so booted to fastboot to open recovery through ADB.
PROBLEM STARTS
My PC didnt recognise my device and this was confirmed through the blank list returned when using "ADB Devices" in the command window.
I updated the drivers through the ADB interface, restarted computer and tried again. Same thing. I then downloaded the drivers from the Google link in one of the forums (http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html#top), restarted and connected again. I then tried two solutions (although they both do the same thing) and update the drivers through Device Manager and searching for them using the "have disk" option.
This still didnt work.
From what I can tell this is a driver issue but I have installed several times now the most up to date drivers and from what I can tell, the only difference between my screenshots and the help pages/forum posts is that my Device Manager list doesn't recognise the phone as the A0001, just an "Android Device" (pic attached).
I have searched the forums and all roads lead to either re-installing the drivers or changing the driver settings through device manager, both of which I have tried several times but no joy when I use ADB to check for devices.
Any ideas? I will try anything as I now have a beautifully BOOT-Looped OnePlus!
Also, if anyone knows how to boot to recovery from phone off state then that will also help!
Also tried the Samsung drivers...
OK, having managed to get the Comp to regognise in Fastboot, is there a way I can flash a nandroid through fastboot? I have checked and it says I need to flash three images but the only saved backups I have are .win files and there is only one (judging by the size of the file)

You can't flash a nandroid with fastboot, only with the specific recovery you used to create the nandroid.

But now I am in a situation where I can (kinda) boot to system and I get a few precious clicks before the ROM crashes (either flashed wrong or ROM unstable....but irrelevant) so can now boot to recovery (managed to quickly DL an advanced power menu) but I can not move my backup to the phone to flash the backup. strangely enough....when I fastboot reboot, it loads to system and as long as I keep the phone connected to PC it loads...when I remove it and boot, it crashes. I know this is the case as I wiped cache and delvik and nothing happened when removed but when I booted to system while connected it started updated gapps.... if that helps anyone....

You don't need to boot into the ROM to get to recovery. Turn the phone off, then hold volume down + power, once you see the initial splash screen let go of power but keep holding volume down until you get to recovery.
Why can't you move the backup? Please provide specifics, it will decrease the amount of back-and-forth we have to do to solve your issue.

I cant move file as, I presume, its down to drivers. Which I am unclear as to why? I can access the device through fastboot but when I go through "MyComputer", I get the icon for the phone but when I enter, no files (See Screenshots). If you want specific screenshots then let me know. When I transfer the backup....

Yeah that's probably a reasonable option, but it most likely won't solve the issue of not being able to copy files across. When you're booted into Android does the device show up as an MTP device in Windows and allow you to copy files, or is it broken there also?

MTP is the format that's used to mount the internal storage on your phone to your PC so you see it as a removable drive. There's no app required, so if you're not seeing your phone storage on your PC then MTP isn't working.
First thing to try: go to Settings/Storage and hit the little menu button in the top corner, there should be an MTP option in there. If it isn't enabled, enable it and try connecting to your PC again. If it is already enabled then it's time to look at your drivers.
I'd completely uninstall the Samsung drivers, reboot your PC, then install the Universal adb drivers, reboot PC again, connect your phone to your PC, you should get an automatic popup saying that device drivers are installing (or something like that), let that complete, then try looking at your phone storage again.

PC won't recognize One Plus in FastBoot/Bootloader Mode

Ok SO I've installed the Google Drivers and uninstalled and reinstalled them. I've done the same with Samsung Drivers.
I've tried the Bacon Toolkit and the OPO specific toolkit.
Here's the issue:
No matter what I do my OPO is recognized fine in ADB and can be seen by Windows Explorer but it shows up as an unknown device in Fastboot Mode.
I am running Windows 7 x86 and just did a factory reset on my OPO to see if that would help with this process.
GOAL: Unlock the bootloader and Root the phone.
Reason: I'm not a super handy guy with Tech. The reason this began is my OPO was RANDOMLY restarting after the last CM update and I do mean random. Different apps. Different processes. Sometimes not even in use and I feel it vibrate only to see the start-up screen. I'm starting to think I have a virus, if that's even possible. My phone was almost unusable. I'm happy to report that the factory reset DID seem to help. It hasn't restarted without prompting yet.
I still would like to Root it.
PLEASE HELP!
I'm having the same problem. My one plus one was rooted and unlocked bootloader .and I installed Hydrogen Os. It installed perfectly with no issues. But my root access is no more. I cannot go to recovery mode using hardware buttons or any other, neither it shows up on Odin. Please Help.

First off, do not use toolkits. You don't learn much from them and it makes troubleshooting very hard.
Firstly, power off your device.
Secondly, press volume up + power button boots your device into fastboot mode
Thirdly, head to TWRP and download 2.8.6.0: https://dl.twrp.me/bacon/
In your fastboot folder, press shift + right click mouse and select open command window.
In command prompt, type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (can be directory of TWRP OR drag your TWRP recovery into cmd) and press enter"
After that type "fastboot boot recovery recovery.img (can be directory of TWRP OR drag your TWRP recovery into cmd) and press enter"
And now you're in recovery mode, you can do all sort of stuff. Remember to make a nandroid beforehand if anything goes wrong

wiped OS

Hi all hope someone can help. My oneplus 1 was playing up a bit just lately so I thought I would give is a wipe and fresh install of a Sultan Rom that I had been using. Backed up using Titanium and Twrp to play it safe. Then like a complete novice (not the next stage up which is where I would put myself) I ticked all the check boxes and wiped. I now have no Operating System on the phone :crying: although I have a version of Twrp sitting on there.
So, off to google I trawled to find numerous posts threads and ways to get back up and running using fastboot, ADB sideloading etc. So after a day and a half of trying these methods and various images to download and flash I am no where near having a working phone.
I need help if one kind soul can help and walk me through the process of getting this phone back up and running.
Thanks for any help that comes this way.... Foz
TWRP is present, just copy paste a rom and gapps into the phone. Go into twrp, flash the rom and gapps and reboot.
Did you try this?
hi thanks for replying.
I've not been able to do as you suggest as the phone is not showing up in explorer where I copy/paste Rom/Gapps. The laptop is "seeing" the phone as there is an audible sound when it gets plugged into the USB socket and when using the fastboot command prompt, it throws a serial number at me. this is why I've tried to go down the ADB/Fastboot options of installing a Rom/IMG with no success
Install the drivers of ur phone on ur pc, download the stock rom cm13.1 from xda, and flash it.
---------- Post added at 11:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:42 PM ----------
Or the other option is, get otg drive. Put rom there and flash.
I'm not having any luck with the first suggestion you gave. Every image that i am trying to flash results in some kind of error. I've even tried to put the most up to date version of Twrp on (3.2.1-0-bacon) but I'm not getting any joy with that. Even though I can "talk" to the phone in Fastboot mode I'm getting no joy. I'm thinking of re installing all the ADB set up again just to make sure
Your second suggestion is not an option for me at the minute as i don't have the kit to try it.
Thanks for you input though.

maybe I missed something but you have to connect your phone to the PC when it is in recovery mode (when OPO is turned off press and keep pressed vol down + power button until you see TWRP logo). The pc should see your phone as an external drive, then you can move a ROM and Gapps and flash with TWRP.

You're not missing anything, I don't think. The phone is booted up and the TWRP screen is on. The phone is connected to the laptop and I can hear an audible noise, but there is nothing in the explorer folders that looks like A001 which is what the phone usually looks like when plugged in. If it was I'd like to think it would be straight forward.

Thanks Foz
ok ... I've now got an OS on the phone...
Thanks to all who have helped.
just as an add on to this thread in case someone has a similar problem.
The phone still wasn't running right and I hadn't installed Gapps so I decided to re flash and start again. Now when I booted into twrp to reflash, it couldn't read the files on the SD card in the thumb drive. I ended up having to re flash a different version of twrp on the phone which miraculously could see the files on the SD card which I installed. The issue I now have is that I don't think there is an area on the phone to store stuff. Whenever I take a pic the camera can't see or access the SD card. When the phone is connected to the laptop, there are no folders within explorer to view so I can't drag n drop files etc to the phone. any ideas/suggestions as to get this sorted?
Thanks in advance... Foz
OK we're sorted. After trying (nearly) every help guide with no luck, I found a similar problem on a YouTube video. In the comments, someone suggested trying to use a Bacon Root Toolkit by WugFresh. after a few minutes setting it up, I've have finally flashed 12.1-YOG4PAS3JL. It has given back my internal SD card. Going to do a back up in a moment and I'm off to flash a more recent ROM
I hope this info helps someone out.
Cheers all

Flashing back to stock without a PC?

Apparently, my 2 month old Pixel 2's USB port is faulty (won't charge on any Power Delivery charger, only charges and unrecognized by PC with A to C cable) and I have to send it back. I currently have the bootloader unlocked and TWRP installed. Is there any way to get it back to bone stock and clear out all my data for the return when USB connection to PC doesn't work at all for data?
As long as I know there is a way to connect adb over WiFi. Google it.
I found this
https://github.com/pedrovgs/AndroidWiFiADB
Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
I was looking into adb over wifi but I have no idea how I would be able to execute the fastboot commands. The phone is still functional, unlocked, rooted, TWRP installed. It's just that data over USB doesn't work at all. Maybe I could just flash the OTA or Image in TWRP? Trying to send Google a clean device with a clear hardware issue instead of a straight up brick here.
If you rooted you may try some terminal emulator app from play store. Like this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.almunt.terminaltoolbox
I think I was able to boot to recovery with some of the terminal app

Suddenly, for no apparent reason, it seems to be working fine for both fast charging and data connection today. Looks like I get to cancel the RMA and send back the refurb unit they were sending. Thanks for the help anyway, guys.
