I had this on my old Z1, and now I have a note 4 and it's on it as well... Every few days I get a pop-up on my phone with a Chinese word (screen shot will be added), and despite all my efforts with anti-virus / anti-malware apps, it persists. I found nothing on it online... Except that it may be related to something called baidu, I'm not sure. I used Google translate to try to make sense of this pop-up, all it says is " 堰" which translates into "weir". I used es file Explorer to search my entire phone for that Chinese word, and for baidu, it came up with nothing. I deleted all apps that I thought were suspicious, and still nothing. Could someone help me with this? It's driving me insane. Thank you.
I need help with this guys! Please! Need some jedi developer to help me out I shall be eternally grateful!

You can try backup your apps, and try to factory reset.

Sir, I flashed an entirely new ROM from sammobile, wiped data, and cache. The only thing left for me to do (considering I'm a noob at this stuff) is setting my phone on fire. I even changed my sim card, and SD card. Deleted everything on ext SD, and internal SD. If I was superstitious I'd say my phone is possessed.

If im not wrong, baidu is from es file explorer right?

It's not the ROM but the apps you are using...I suggest trying to unsintall them and see if the problem still persists
Can you revoke the permission from malware like android.permission.SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW

My phone had a problem the other day that I fixed, but unfortunately it deleted my data. Or so I thought. I plugged it in via USB and it turns out EVERYTHING is still there, but my phone isn't registering it. Why is that?
can you be more specific? what data? the data in the data folder, or whatever is in your sd root?
I mean applications. I'm not sure where they're stored.
Unless you backed it up, its gone. Download all your apps again. Go into recovery and make a backup and you should be ok from now on. Gdofwar has a tut out. Search for it. It's a simple procedure

Also, the reason you are seeing folders for programs is because they are created upon application install for things saved, logged or independently backed up. Once you wipe the phone, it affects the system and not really the sd unless you do something like rfs converter. Lol

...when it comes to their rom flashes.
What I mean is does anyone else seem to do a whole wipe of their phones, including internal memory and SD card?(making necessary backups first) Then after doing so, flash the rom of their choosing and install some apps one by one making sure not to get any FCs or bad freezes?
It seems as though for my case, I am very selective/picky about my flashing & installing apps that if something goes wrong I need to reflash just to make the "perfect" phone.
Am I alone?

I don't know if your alone but I like to keep it dirty. At best I wipe internal data. All seems to work pretty well. Also I don't get how backing up your sd card then formatting it and then restoring it helps any. Since all the files will be the same then it won't have any negative or positive effects to what you're running

Well I don't keep every file or folder from my backups. I keep the data folder for TiBu for restoring my settings quickly. Sometimes I feel a cleaner slate is better. Mostly I'm just getting annoyed I've had 2 random freezes while rebooting and had to battery pull and when I restart the phone the date turns to Dec. 2006.... and I'm doing whatever I can to learn how to prevent that annoying ________(whatever it is).
I try and flash on a clean slate to make sure I get as few errors as possible, but it seems as though the harder I try to make things perfect something has got karma against me screwing me up one way or another.
Nope! Too much work. i do just the basic flash/wipe and flash and enjoy
Well I use my internal SD for all my ROMs and my external SD Card has my music and photos. I keep both of the SD cards organized. When flashing I always wipe data, cache, and dalvik twice before flashing. Dirty flashing is something I don't want to deal with. xD

I'm one of them but I don't restore anything from SD. I start from a clean slate. I d/l absolutely needed apps (maps, gtasks, voice) and as the days go by and I need something I d/l at that time. I've never had any issues on any rom (GB, ICS, JB) other than the ones outlines by the OP.
I'm the same as OP.. however I do seem to have some OCD. That may be it.....

Yeah now I'm waiting for my 32gb SD card (class 10!) To come in the mail and I may end up doing another flash... upgrading from my 8gb class 4.

I wipe everything when switching ROMs. I don't like restoring apps from backup, either. I just re-install my apps one by one from the Play Store. And if I lost progress in a game or something, then too bad for me, at least my phone is "clean."

Hey Everyone!
Is their anyway to change the "download" location for google play store?
Eg: if there is not enough internal memory to download the apk file, can it be directed to the SD card instead?
Nope that isn't possible but if you root your phone and install titanium back up pro (if you don't want to purchase it, just find a cracked version on the net), then you can move any (that's right, any) app to the sd card so you can free up space to install the app from google play. Afterwards, you can move the app back to the phone
You don't need the cracked version to do that, the free one works fine.
You could also do something along the lines of link2sd, where you link the download directory to one on and EXT formatted partition on the SD card.

That's what I thought. I juat tought there was some magical way of redirecting the dls .
I already use titanium backup. Love the app! Sdmaid is a good one too as it helps clear the useless cache files

I think CWM backup failed attemps due to lack of space have eaten my sdcard somewhere with hidden or partial files, as I deleted /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/ and the problem persists.
My files are below 2GB. I have tried several tools such as SD Maid but couldn't solve the issue. Even walk all my sdcard tree manually with ES file explorer (hidden files included).
What do you recommend me to Iook at? I want to start using CM10 and test AD2P

After Uninstalling the Game, you need to delete data from There downloaded folder. If you can find the folder of there, then can perform the action.

It should help you identify what eats your sd card
Finally I found the source of the problem. CWM was doing backups in /sdcard/external_sd/clockworkmod/backups. Any backup that failed - for example due to lack of space - won't be seen by CWM, and apparently, by any file explorer in Android itself. I could see them in my PC. After removing I'm back to a normal situation
im loosing free space on the internal sd card and no matter what i delete, cannot figure out how or where it went
anyone have any idea or similar expieruence?
its also causing issues, such as titanium backup wont back anything up, despite that i tell it to use the external sd (which has 32 gigs free)
edit - hmm, ive noted that im deleting/uninstalling apps, and manually deleting the files, but its not registering on the tablet that there is new free space from them. this is highly unusual

I wonder if it is really deleting the files or just hiding them. Can you try copying over from a PC a large file , check free space, delete the file, check space again, see if it frees it up? I'm thinking it is a weird permissions issue.
