T-Mobile Note Edge on AT&T. - Note Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been searching for an answer and have not gotten a clear and definitive answer. Does the T-Mobile Note Edge variant work on all AT&T LTE networks without issue after being unlocked? According to tbr Samsung website both models have the same bands with the t-mobile Edge have 2 additional bands
I have the att model but would really like to be part of the dev community. I have a week and a half to return my att model. I would buy the t-mobile model if it works completely on the networks. Anyone out there using a t-mobile Edge on ATT. Thanks

Think I can help answer a few Qs.
Am using a Straight Talk sim (ATT) in my T-Mo Note Edge. Getting 8-15+ mb/s down...2-4 mb/s up (more than enough for me). Followed rooting method posted by TekHD. Did not see unlock procedure for T-Mo Edge.
T-Mo does hold your unlock hostage for 2+ months or $100 (didn't see this stated and argued). Unlocked through a reputable unlocker through fleabay (~$24 I think - Tmo also recommended...go figure).
Hope this helps.
Wish someone can release a qualcomm kernel w OC/UV/governors and thermal control soon...

Yes, Using one right now. You do not need to unlock it at all it will work right out of the box with an AT&T sim as will all T-Mobile Phones.. This has been a thing for years. There might be some obscure T-Mobile phones without perfect LTE Band or Data support. Every major model will work perfect with absolutely no unlock don't waste your money. I actually called T-Mobile before throwing my gophone sim into the Note Edge T-Mobile variant and cautiously asked if they will blacklist the imei of a phone that is using an AT&T sim. The T-Mobile representative kindly, calmly, and with conviction said that no you will not have your device blacklisted, and that all T-Mobile phones should work out of the box on AT&T. Enjoy not paying for an unlock code! I'll upload pictures of my note edge running AT&T data services via an AT&T gophone sim if you don't believe me. It actually put the APN information in for me automatically too! Meaning I did not have to enter in carrier specific AT&T APN, the software on the Note Edge T-Mo variant picked up the different carrier and entered the APN settings automatically. Woot woot

Samsung Note

I see Amazon selling the unlocked Samsung Note and mostly all people who bought it are on At&t. I was wondering would this work with Sprint newtwork. I guess At&t and Sprint are on different networks. I saw that At&t guys had to change theie APN.

No. Sprint uses CDMA which means no SIM cards. The note will only work on AT&T, T-mobile, and basically every other network in the world besides Verizon and Sprint.

S6 region locked

Can anyone tell me if the phones is region locked? Thanks
i am not sure what you are looking for but i do know that there is a thread on here where someone tried a Verizon SIM in a Tmob and ATT S6 and neither one worked on Verizon.
Generally Verizon phones are SIM unlocked so u can use them on Tom or att but don't expect to get lte coverage since the phones have different bands enabled.

That's because those don't have CDMA radios, and at least the AT&T one is locked. Verizon phones come SIM-unlocked and work with other carriers. If you use a T-Mobile SIM you'll see an "unknown SIM" message, but it will work assuming the bands match. You should be able to get LTE with T-Mobile as most of their network uses band 4.
He means region locked, like usa

Anyway to get rid of this message? My g2 I had to root it to get rid of it. I hope I don't have to root the s6 just for that because it gets really anoying just having the icon showing unknown sim the whole time.

Unlocked Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge from other Carriers

Here is confirmation for anyone wonder if the Galaxy S6 unlocked from ATT or Tmoibile will work on Verizon just like the iPhones 6 6+ or Nexus 6
I have both ATT and Tmobile Galaxy S6 in hands, unlocked, inserted Verizon sim card in and there is no signal
However, when I check "About Device" it shows my phone number
Mobile Network Type: LTE
Service State: Out of Service
and LTE came up for a second and never came back on
I think they blocked the LTE bands or so to stop people unlock their phones using on another carrier

They didn't block the bands. According to pdadb, the 920A and 920T don't have CDMA.
Unlocking att s6
Hi was it easy to get the att version unlocked from a 3rd party website or did you get it unlocked from ATT?
thats why i prefer buying unlocked phones from Amazon and use on any network on my choice. i wonder if this locking phones is cant be investigated for being anti competitive or messing with our rights somehow

You guys are confusing "unlocked" terms. There's a carrier unlock and a bootloader unlock. VZW phones are carrier unlocked and work on any network as long as the radio has the proper frequency support. But VZW phones are bootloader locked, meaning you can't flash unsigned packages to the device i..e. no root yet.
S6 att unlock
hi was it easy to get the att s6 unlocked. Thanks.
Mostly correct except root does not necessarily depend on unlocked bootloader, which you somewhat implied by the end of your statement.
I'm thinking about purchasing a unlocked Sprint Galaxy S6 on craigslist and bringing it to Verizon. Does anyone know if this will work?
Thanks
~Tom
I want the S6 but not if the bootloader is locked. I know that Verizon and ATT are the two carriers who will lock the bootloader. I'm not sure if a T-Mobile line would work due to their using GSM rather than CDMA, but doesn't Sprint use CDMA? Would we be able to purchase a Sprint variant that doesn't have a locked bootloader and then use that phone on Verizon?
Would a Vzw version work on GSM carriers including LTE? I am thinking of buying one off contract for the wife, but want it to be able to go to a cheaper prepaid service later once our contract expires.
t mobile phone on Verizon network
Would the T mobile S6 work with Verizon LTE data only? Did you try to surf the Internet?
Will a Verizon S6 work on T-Mobile? LTE as well?
It should work fine but be aware that VZW uses different LTE bands than TMO. VZW uses Bands 13/4 with 13 as Primary and TMO uses primarily Band 4 but will enable band 12 soon.

Well, when carriers started putting up powers that supported LTE, the phone manufacturers were releasing phones that supported CDMA and LTE because LTE wasn't widespread enough to get an LTE signal. CDMA technology will eventually be replaced by LTE. Qualcomm owns all the parents for CDMA, so whenever anyone makes a call using CDMA, QCOM collects their revenue checks, which used to represent 51% of total revenues. It's cheaper for the carriers to run LTE because QCOM doesn't own the entire technology and they won't have to pay the royalties to QCOM for using their technology (kind of like using H.265 vs VP9 for 4K video compression. Royalties using the older H.265 compression maxed out at $5 million a year. H. 265 maxes out at $25 million vs Google's VP9 free open-source technology for video compression.
Once enough towers are up that support LTE, handsets won't come with the availability to use CDMA technology anymore. Next thing we'll see are cable providers putting up hotspot all around the city (I've already seen it with Comcast, but this could really hurt the phone companies since people won't even be using LTE anymore, just like when people had to use much slower data connections in rural areas on their cell phones because they didn't have towers. VOIP will also hurt the carriers.
So, to answer that, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't built to support CDMA anymore. These balloons that just started being launched by Google to provide Internet access to everyone in the world will be interesting to see how functional it is. It would be nice top have a high speed connection anywhere in the world.
Sprint and Verizon uses CDMA while AT&T and T-Mobile uses GSM. So trying to use an unlocked S6 for Verizon won't work since unlocked versions are usually GSM. So nope.

I had the exact same problem with my one plus one. I'm 99% certain it's not about the bands being blocked in the phone but about verizon network non-verizon phones. The fact that you can select verizon if you search for a network means the bands are compatible.
Verizon is being evil by blocking the phones. I'm just not sure how (could be that any phone not wishlisted cannot be activated i.e. s13 interface )

Problem is Verizon whitelists all IMEIs for phones that they'll "support." Even if you get it working, it 1) doesn't have CDMA, so you can't make calls unless you're strictly in VoLTE areas, and 2) you won't be able to make any plan changes or get a M2M discount since the phone would be a "Non-VZW Device."

Right, that's been my speculation for a while, but i have no inside info. Whitelisting every device would be a major PITA though...unless they bulk-whitelist then using data from the manufacturers. ..that also doesnt explain why people report being able to bring an iphone 6 or a nexus 6 over from other nwtworks (not sure if rhey have only gotten lte working and not the cdma part)
I do know the cdma functionality wouldn't be available, but tthe discussion was more along the lines of why it attached to lte ans then nothing.
The strange part is that both OP and I saw LTE eveb if for a split second. ..i would expect N attach reject if it's due to the Whitelisting.

The most likely reason is that you did something wrong. I have personally used verizon s3, verizon s4 and htc rezound in tmobile and other gsm networks. (I will test my s6 soon for t-mobile and cricket)
it's well known that most verizon lte phones are unlocked and have gsm functionality.
My most logical guess is that you didn't set up something like the APN.
Your anecdotal experience does not a rule make. (most common fallacy i see in real life: it didnt work for me so it doesnt work!)

Purchasing Note 9 "unlocked" but cannot be used on Sprint?

Hello everyone,
I am looking to buy an Unlocked Note 9 (US Version) to be used primarily on the Sprint Network. I am looking at new phones on Ebay and Amazon and they are all labeled as GSM unlocked or some of them say GSM and CDMA unlocked, yet they all say they cannot work on the Sprint or Metro PCS or Verizon network. Some of the ads show that they have SM-960U1(unlocked) firmware some others show SM-960U firmware while still stating "unlocked", but I am not sure if they understand the difference or maybe I do not.
Aside for the phone being blacklisted on these networks, is there any other reason why a Note 9 would not work on these CDMA networks if they are truly unlocked? Thanks in advance.

If you're going to be using the device primarily on Sprint, why not get an unlocked Sprint version of Note 9? It is guaranteed to work on Sprint's network plus if it is unlocked, it can be used on other carrier networks.

Hello Droidriven, I am trying to look for this, but I am unable to. I have not seen any ads specifically stating Sprint Unlocked. Every unlocked phone whether GSM or CDMA unlocked states something along the lines, will not work on sprint or verizon or metro. If the phone is truly unlocked and supports the CDMA bands that Sprint uses, then what is the reason behind it?
I am wondering if I can just buy a Sprint only Note9 then flash the SM-960U1(unlocked) firmware for it?
I went through the same issues with sprint, got a note 9 unlocked from a friend an they said it is not compatible. So I asked about buying a note 9 unlocked from them. I asked what is model number and it was the exact same as the one I just got. I asked what is the difference between one from them and the note 9 I baught from my friend, They said no difference, EXACT SAME! Sprint Just wanted me and you to buy a new phone from them in a contract. The Unlocked model's have modems for both, CDMA and GSM. I was with sprint for 20 years, they were decent only for good deals, service was **** in Milwaukee. I left them for spectrum. No issues and great service. Sorry 2 years late..

Question Tmobile user, preordered sammy unlocked version - question

Hi folks. So I am on t-mobile but preordered the Samsung 256gb unlocked version. This is my 1st time ordering from Samsung directly as well 1st time ordering an unlocked device. Usually I just go into the t-mobile store or their website for any new phone purchases. Samsung offered some great trade in values on our S10's and some other goodies so we went directly with Samsung.
Dumb question but will I run into any issues with tmobile and this unlocked flip 3 or is it a simple insert my tmobile sim and off I go?
Phone tentatively arrives 9/21. Thanks!
Simply insert your sim and go!
I always buy unlocked phones, and the last three in the house are on T-Mobile, juts swap sims and you good to go.
The only thing you'll miss out on from T-Mobile is if you roam in a US Cellular area. Only T-Mobile branded devices have unlimited roaming on USC.

Domestic Roaming (US Cellular) Communism | T-Mobile Community
It has taken me almost a year to find out from T-Mobile why my girlfriend isn't able to ro on to the US Cellular network when visiting Beckley, West Virginia. The reason is truly shocking. It is because her Samsung purchased S9+ was not purchased from T-Mobile or Metro. It doesn't matter that...
