Hi All ... nice forum u have here.
I m not sure wether Im in the right place, however I am intersted in learning about custom bootable roms.
I have an MXIII 2gb android based tv box .... and I wld like to know how exactly why i keep cooking a ROm with Android kitchen .... and i keep getting `verification failed` msg on rom update.
I probably need to replace the bootloader on the device ... but i dont know how.
I did also try by formatiing the sdcard with a partiton starting from cylinder #3 in fat32 format ... placing the files from android kitchen there ... with no sucess
For the record Im an ubuntu linux user by default ... I tried connecting to adb over tcp via terminal ... but im doing something wrong.
Tried the usb adb ... but ubuntu does not recognize the unit
Tried Android sdk ... but i cant load the factory Rom in it
what im really looking for is to make a minimalistic Rom that I can install from sd card easy
totally lost ... appreciate some help
Some pointers wld be really appreciated.
Hi,
You have already asked about this in the appropriate section. Xda Assist is here to help navigate the site, not for support. And you found your way already. ??
You'll need to be patient. Read some guides in the Chef Central section, or try googling this. It's not a popular device, so it may be hard to get answers from others.
Good luck! Thread closed.

as the title, I'd like to modify the ROM of the S00, I mean i'd like to take the original ROM and add some new software in it so that if i have some problemes with it later, i can reinstall with all my sofwatres and documents. How can i do that pliz ? I'm a newbie...pliz help me !!!
I don't think anything like rom kitchen has been done yet; so far i think the best we've got is big storage hack. I guess there may be some extensions of big storage/extended rom that would work, but I've not looked into it further.

No sorry, there is a sof or sthg for this. My BOSS told me that he saw someone doing this one day but he can't remember which soft it was with. The guy did that on a Qtek 2020. I'm looking for how to do it on a XDA II mini pliz ??

For the Qtek 2020 it's much simpler, as the "Storage" area can be made writable. But it's true, it can be done for the XDA mini also. The procedure was something along the following lines:
- dump the correct portion of your ROM to an SD card - which portion that is I can't remember right now
- copy it to your PC, using ntrw
- move it to a Linux PC, and mount this binary file as a FAT file system
- copy whatever you want into that file system
- copy the binary back to your Windows PC, back to your SD card, and flash it back to your mini's ROM.
This has been described in more detail elsewhere, in one of the threads dealing with BigStorage. You can find it using the Search function. I do not think there's an easier way than that at the moment. Qtek 2020 and XDA mini are just too different.
Cheers
Daniel

I didn't understand this line...I'm such a newbie so i'd like to have it step by step if possible pliz...and another question : Do you really have to move the binary files to linux ? I have only windows and I don' t like LINUX that much. Can you explain step by step pliz and what is the soft ntrw, gimme a link to download it by PM pliz, so nice thanks a lot !!
ps: and if you can tell how to it on a Qtek2020 it will be very nice too.
Like i said prashanth, it's not really userfriendly yet. It's best not to be a newbie and try something so involved; there's not really much reason to do so anyway. I find it most convenient to make a self installing backup of my working PPC, and Keep it on storage and/or storage card. That way, even if there's a hard reset, everything can be up and running within 3 minutes. However, installing all software from a hard reset, registering all software, sorting your startmenu, setting everything up etc - it's quicker just to backup and restore!

Hi all
I am new here, so, let me say a big Hello to all comunity. I am a developer for some programming languajes and just starting with android, hope I can write nice code to share here with all you.
My G1 is coming (hope get it in my hands next week) and the first I like to do is flash it with the new boot and modified RC30, but I like to have the original ones in a save place... maybe I need them one day.
But I have been reading the "Rooting, Hacking, and Flashing your G1/Dream" threat, the procedures are all clear like water, but still I have the doubt.... what is the way to save the original boot and Android built that comes with the phone?
Please, could anybody give me some help with this?
Thanks
The original /system /boot and /recovery are all restoreable with publicly available update files (you can even grab them direct from Google's https server), so don't worry about having to back up your own copy. If you absolutely must copy your own data, there are scripts out there to dump out your nand flash. Good luck and looking forward to seeing your code!
First, let me give you the thanks for your answer...
Nandroid is one of those scripts?
Believe I have been reading this forum for several days, but is hard to asimilate so much information, and more if that info isnĀ“t writted on your native languaje...
I believe I understand that I must install a bootloader to use nandroid... and not sure if I can do it with the original android installed... I readed about the /system /boot and so on directories, but not sure if I can access them from the pc, and / or if those directories contains all you need to have the phone working, or if you need a boot sector or similar to get the phone booting...
Is possible the phone boots just reading the contents or the /boot directory, without a boot sector/master record??
Is hard to asimilate that for a windows os applications developer like me
Maybe you can show me the right thread to start, I think I must change my mind with that systems... I am a Delphi, C++ and so on developer for windows S.O, and now I like to introduce my own on Linux wordl too
So i received my phone, yesterday and all its ok, but i didnt know cause IM A NOOB that the GPS on almost all the mtk processors doesnt work, so the first thing done was roote it, then install some programs, in one of those as i work as a deliver man (Im from Mexico) i use Google Maps, the problem is, my gps doesnt work, i have tried a lot of things and none work, i want to re flash my smartphone so it can be like "new" again and look for an answer, but the methods i found didnt work :crying: :crying: and i dont know how to flash stock rom and make the gps work. every time i hard reset it starts rooted and i wanted to copy some files (EPO) to my /system/misc from my sd card it says

What can i do please i just want to copy paste on some root explorer and use my GPS :crying:
Hi,
Unfortunately I can find nothing relevant on XDA for your devices issue, so posting here is the best option,
> Android Development and Hacking > Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Good luck!
thank you very much i have done it now
Thank you. Thread closed.
I've been having trouble installing a new software update on my phone (HTC Desire 816, 4.4.2 KitKat) and I decided to give it another go today. My phone is rooted, I used CWM recovery and SU which I still use. When I let the phone do the automatic install, when the phone goes into recovery it says the path to the dl is invalid. Which I've checked and it seems the same to me. If I try to install it by going into the recovery mode and installing the zip it says "file_getprop: failed to stat "/system/build.prop": no such file or directory". So I came on here to try to find answers and the threads I came across just lead to more questions. One thread said: "If I unlock the bootloader and root (including flashing wp_mod) my HTC Desire 816 but remain in my default stock ROM will I still receive software updates from HTC officially?", then goes onto ask questions regarding how the internal memory amt is an issue for game data size that cant be moved to the SD card. and if Link2SD work or if there's a way to "emulate /link the ext SD and Int SD, and if busybox is required. The reply talks about Xposed module installation, busybox on rails, Xposed Framework, and S-ON.
I am a beginner with this type of stuff. I can do basic things (like root my phone and such), so the more information the better. But what is all the stuff that is being referred to and will any of it help me with my situation. I am always looking to learn more about the things I can do with my phone, So the more the better. I just need a complete work through, no steps skipped. And Lastly, I'm looking for the stock ROM for my phone if it's anywhere., but I'm hoping for the US version for Virgin Mobile, just in case I screw it up and need to revert back or just feel like going back to basic. Thank You
Hi,
Here is my suggestion. You want to learn and that's awesome! Learning this stuff requires lots of reading, googling, searching xda and reading stickies in your device section (the top threads in sections with thumb tack icons on them)
So, here is the desire 816 section...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-816
I'm the general section, you'll find information... Guides, tutorials and whatnot, for many things. In Q&A section you can find questions others have asked, as well as more information threads too. You can read the summary of the other sections, but those 2 have a wealth of knowledge in thread already.... You won't often find people repeat it all, especially the many things you've asked, when the information is already out there. ?
If you get stuck on something, ask for help in your Q&A section for that device. ?
Good luck!
I have asked the paid root experts at Fiverr, and none have the knowhow. What I need help with is someone to walk me through this process. Is that something you could do?
It's a workaround for Apps2SD, so Marshmallow loads the EXT2 on boot.
[Discussion] How to make Apps2sd work with [cm13] ?
