Lollipop build with custom nav bar mods. - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone please advise if any lollipop custom roms come with custom nav bar mods please?

Almost all AOSP-LP rom's have that feature. Or you can reduce the navbar size on your own by using apktool and modding framework-res and SystemUI apk's.

I don't think he means navbar height. I've also been looking for LP roms with customizable navigation buttons but couldn't find any. For FoxHound there's a mod thread somewhere, but FoxHound doesn't have the features I want and I can't install it on most other ROMs. You might give that mod a try but I can't promise you anything

Ditto this. I tried using the Fox mods on CM12 and they worked, but broke some other things in the process. I'm trying to hunt down a guide so I can just try to do it myself.

You can find tutorials about modding navbar height here in XDA. The procedure is same for lollipop as well. One major step is you have to use apktool R3 or latest.

working just fine! Thanks.
Hi, Please help for LG G2 D802 Asia version, code D80210B_00, Thanks
Thanks for your work (even tho i have a different model).Just so you know tho,it will only work in the firmware you have now,you need to do that in every firmware release.Im saying that in order to save some from a bootloop.
I would like to edit my framework-res for the T-Mobile D801 version. Would you mind posting some directions for me to follow? Thanks!
I just tested this on my D802 Asia version model and it's working fine. However, landscape mode reverts the nav bar back to its original size. Would you be kind enough to fix this and also look into any optimisations you could make for the D802 Asian version as well, seeing as this is for the Euro model?
Do let me know how I can help by contributing any system files from my phone.
As i mentioned in the first Posting, i'am new to framework modding, but i do my best, currently i search
for the landscape fix (i changed the right things, seems that i have missed something....)
I've done this mod while i don't want to use an xtra app for this, also, i havent found an app that
works properly (including Plug & Pop)
Modding these files is truly an easy step.
I'll post a very little guide for the nav bar size later, there are many other guides outhere to learn such stuff
This mods can be done by everybody ...

it could just be 3 small dots in the bottom.
this mod cuts the navbar down to half size, this can be done easy by everyone.
Look in the Guide for theme modding: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2455860
there is a post from me how this mod is done.

[MOD][THEMING] G3 Statusbar Modding and Theming

Hey everyone so I am bringing to you a mod that I have been working on for the g2, it is a simple mod that can arrange icons and even theme them to look differently. Hopefully everyone enjoys the mod and whatever may be in stored for the future.
The Screenshots:
G3 Stock and IOS Icons
G3 L Icons
Download links and instructions can be found in the second post
Future Updates Include:
-Any Request?
Any Bugs
- NO BUGS That I Know of
A big thanks goes to:
@shooterlgk and @uknowme4me who have done all the testing and made it possible for me to bring you guys this mod.
@Ticklefish and @rastigo for there tools, guides and the help they have provided to me in the g2
Important Information and Download Links
Instruction Please Read
How To Restore:
Since the mod is made to support all of the g3 models it would be a rather difficult to maintain a bunch of systemui restore zips, so instead I designed one restore zip which anyone can use:
-download the odex or deodex version depends on your rom:
odex systemui restore zip
deodex systemui restore zip
-unzip on your pc or phone
-copy your lgsystemui.apk and lgsystemui.odex(if your rom deodex this won't be there) into system/priv-app
-rezip and now you have a flashable restore zip
IF YOU DO NOT BACKUP YOUR SYSTEMUI THEN DON'T COMPLAIN IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG
How to install:
It is recommended to have custom recovery to be able to use the mod but if you don't then you can just extract the systemui and replace yours with it:
-using root explorer delete you systemui.apk/odex
-copy the modded systemui and add rw-r--r-- permissions
-reboot and enjoy

Will take a look the layout doesn't specify a specific color for the statusbar, just calls out to an image but should not be hard to implement a mandatory color on statusbar and as mentioned in op I do not own a G3 so don't know much about it

Hey what are you using g3 tweaksbox for, I do not own the g3 and the person who did all testing never had any problems on both odex/deodexed systemui, he also did not use xposed but until now O have never had any problems using the mod in combination with xposed on the g2
Okay G3 851, flashed IOS styles pack...nothing changed except my normal icons are on the left. Flashed Left icon style pack and same thing? I have G3 tweakbox and I know you don't need that with this mod. But just in case that could be the culprit I turned off status bar mods then flashed but still nothing...wish I knew why?

the styles packs are designed to only move the icons around and you need to flash the icon pack if you want the ios icons; the reason for this is because not everyone including myself like the ios icons but like the ability to have a different looking statusbar, shooterlgk who was the main tester tested the mod using d851 t-mo variant so the mod should work for you no problem if it isn't working than pm me with your framework folder and the lgsystemui.apk/odex and I will get to the bottom of the problem

no worries I had forgotten to put a little explanation into how they work(I had to do same in g2 thread when I rebased mod to use vrthemer to be able to support more roms without needing so many zips) but I added some info and it will help with anyone who has any further confusions
Just tried this on my d855 but flashed in recovery and no change. Have got xposed and tweakbox running don't know if that makes a difference.
Edit Just uninstalled xposed and flashed again but still no change.
not that i don't appreciate what the op had done, don't get me wrong. i do like the idea of making your android "different".
but i just look at it as a sad thing to see. i mean if you want ios theme, if you love the ios theme, why don't you get iphone instead?
nice to see the creativity though...

This mod only over writes the stock icons so you need to change your status bar icons back to stock in tweakbox....otherwise tweakbox over rides. Found this out myself last night.

I understand what your saying but while droid reigns supreme to the iPhone....the iPhone does have a few nice things like the signal dots...they look slick! And all this does is change the stat bar icons..not the whole phone.
Mods like this are brilliant because you can combine the best of both phones and don't have to settle for one or the others limits.

[Q] theme chooser custom rom

Hi ,
I'm trying to build a custom rom for the jiayu g4 with as base stock kitkat rom.
Now, I would like to add theme ability to the rom. Not with xposed framework or such, just a theme chooser like in the xperia and cm settings.
Can anyone help me with this? The intension is to have such setting (or app that I can link to settings) to easely change the theme.
If there's an option to do this, but specific for my kind of phone (so no theme's exist yet), I wouldn't mind theming a bit. In that case I could provide the users with 3 or 4 different UI collours and different icons or such to choose from.
Thanks,
Louis

You could try adding the Cyanogenmod theme chooser into the ROM and offer some themes for it but that isn't device specific as such. That would most likely be the easy option where something else could take a lot of time though.

It is built into the framework and requires an AOSP based rom. Also the version for that OS had a ton of issues that were never fixed as it abandoned for the newer setup

So you're telling me I must not try to add the cyanogenmod theme engine? What would be the easiest way to add some theme's then? It doesn't have to be theming like in cyanogenmod or such. Just changing the theme collour from as example black to blue would be enough for me. Then I can provide them with the themes black, blue, red, green or such.
Thanks for taking the time to answer

To do what you want you would have to rewrite all the base framework files and add everything in by hand. To be honest it will be far more work then it is worth. Your best option would be to make flashable theme zips, where you change all the color options to each and every single apk in the rom.

wouldn't it work to just change the systemui or such so the status bar, volume pannel, settings etc change collour and maybe some icons (like wifi, bt,..)? And then I could search for an app that automaticaly flashes zip's, that way the users just need to choose the theme they want and the phone does the rest himself?
Or is there a way to implend xposed modules into the system so I can use XthemeEngine without having to install xposed module? Or implend xposed framework and XthemeEngine in the ROM so you just flash it with the rest of the ROM? But in that last case, it maybe would be stupid to do the work for it as everyone can easily find out about XthemeEngine if they realy want to apply some themes. Plus xposed and XthemeEngine would be 2 apps taking space in the drawer and memory wasting for the users who don't want to theme..

Well thats the thing. The volume panel color shares its color with the rest of the menus in the rom, The settings is set by the settings apk and the icons are scattered across a ton of different apks. Some in the framework and some in the system ui.
The xposed route is up to you. I find no use for xposed myself.
Ill be honest there is no easy way to do this. What you want to do takes weeks worth of work even for a single color theme. This is due to everything being cross linked to everything else. You change the color for say the clock then the color changes in 50 other places as well.

[Q] [Request] Modified NavBar DPI for Stock Lollipop 5.1

Hi all,
I've been searching for two days a way to reduce NavBar's DPI in Lollipop 5.1 Stock rom because they look too big to me. Since different people are looking for it (from what I've read), I would ask if someone that is able in this sector could kindly make a flashable zip for everyone (I really don't know how to... maybe with a guide I could try by myself).
Thanks in advance.
If you can't get that, get SoftKeyZ. Has keys of smaller size.

I've modified the navbar to 20dpi on stock 5.1 and using it without any issues.
You need to do change some variable values in framework-res and SystemUI apks as well as resizing the navbar icons.
Attaching a screenshot here to give you an idea about how it looks. Let me know if you need the flashable zips.

Follow this link. It will give you a generic idea about how to resize the navbar. This tutorial is for kitkat, but the steps are more or less same. You need the latest apktool jar file and java 7 installed in your system.
Since lollipop some core things are changed most probably because of selinux and security stuff, so you need to use the manifest and meta inf files from the original apk otherwise device will boot loop.
Also you need to downsize the softkey icons in the System-UI apk, else it'll look ugly after resizing.
Finally if you lowered the dpi of your device, then resizing the navbar will increase the gap between the softkeys, some people will like that, but I prefer the keys to be as close as possible so that thumb's reach can be minimal. let me know if you want that mod too. Good luck.
Thanks man, but it looks too difficult to me... I don't know anything about decompiling, java, etc...
By the way thank you very much for spending your time answering my questions.
I'll stay on Chroma until GB is compatible with 5.1.

I was using Chroma ever since it was available for N5, but came back to stock because google maps was FC'ing continuously. Downloaded the latest chroma just yesterday night and still thinking of trying that once again to see how maps behave this time. Regarding navbar, typing the 'how to do' is much longer than modding the apk

I add myself to the discussion because on the web you can't find anything. For KitKat were available some zip file to flash via custom recovery on rooted device compatible with the stock ROM, but for Lollipop anything yet! 40 dpi would be perfect
