Any reviews/opinions on LG F60? - General Topics

I'm looking for a new phone, maybe even downgrade. Currently have a Galaxy S3 (that I've messed up trying to root and can't fix) but I want something quick, with good battery life, a smaller screen (around 4.5") decent enough camera, has all the apps etc on but must must be at least android 4.4 kitkat purely because my galaxy is the older one and that's the only sense I'm looking to upgrade in
I like the look of the LG F60 but I'm really struggling to find any reviews on it. Google is full of sites announcing the specs and release date but I'm still none the wiser
EDIT: The only place I can find to buy it is here http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/sim-free-mobile-phones/lg-f60 and a lot of sites that come up when searching are foreign, did it not get a large release in the UK? There's hardly any youtube videos on it. I'm just stumped

Hint for a new phone

Hi all (first post ),
I was a happy FreeRunner user until it was stolen
Now I'm looking for another hackable phone.
Many points me to the Nexus One, but by reading the forums I see that it's not the only one which is rootable, it's just that the vendor make it easy.
I'd like a phone which can run custom images (all system on SD is better) and have a AMOLED screen with high resolution (I was used to 640x480).
It does not matter what OS it runs as long as I can change it without losing too much functionality (e.g. everything but 3d acceleration/wifi is ok). I'd like to run Meego one day.
I don't mind a hardware keyboard.
I'd like something which is more on ~400 $ than $500, even less if possible.
Minimal accessories is some sort of camera, 3g and good gps.
I looked at the wiki (when it was still working) but it's really tedious to search for prices/possibility to hack for every phone.
Thank you for the tips.
Galaxy s3
Get the Galaxy s3.
Galaxy Nexus
I would recommend the 32GB Galaxy Nexus. They keep up on software updates. I was looking at the S3, but I am not a fan of touchwiz and some other features of the phone. The Galaxy series is the best on the market, so you really can't go wrong with either.
What phone service do you have? Or are you looking for like unlocked?

[Q] What is the latest official Android version provided by HTC for One S (S3 / S4) ?

Hello,
I'm looking for a specific information on the forums but can't find it... i mean, i read something on a topic and the total opposite on another so I thought i could open a new thread to ask it simply...
Birthday of my brother-in-law is getting close and he own a Galaxy Gio for the last year. He was very hostile to smartphones and especially touch screens (as he never used a capacitive before that) and is very pleased with it, despite the fact that internal memory is so poor that he constantly have to uninstall apps to try new ones... App2SD is not working for everything...
Now is the time to buy a new one... budget is 300€ max and after looking a lot of videos on YouTube, HTC One S seems the right choice, despite the fact it is getting "old". HTC One SV which is more young is, imho, not as good and the back design is not elegant like the One S.
First difficulty is to find the S4 version... but i know they have different references and clock speed of the CPU is also different so it is not that hard to know what you buy before you buy.
I'd like to know what is actually the latest stock version of Android available from HTC. Personally, i don't mind tricking my own smartphone, unlock bootloader and install custom roms to find which one suits the best to me (i have a Galaxy Nexus so getting the latest Android version is not really a problem) but my brother-in-law is definitely not a geek and won't even consider doing it. I wish he could experience the JB experience (butter project, ...) with the One S and wonder if both models (S3 and S4) already have an official JB update... and, if positive, which version is it ?
Last but not least, do you think HTC is going to provide an additional update in the future for this One S... and, if positive, what could be given ? Maybe Sense 5.0 ?
Thank you for taking the time to answer me !
The S4 runs on 4.1.1 currently.
HTC has gone on record to say that One S will receive the Sense 5 update is expected sometime in July. HTC hasn't specified whether that'll be 4.1.2 or 4.2, although 4.2 is more likely.

Galaxy S vs HTC HD2 - the return

NOTE: I have read the older threads HD2 vs Galaxy S, but they're from the very beginnings of the two and, while I still believe some of the comments are fair enough, they refer to other times.
Ok, so here's the background: I own a Galaxy S (GT-i9000) and I am not satisfied at all with it. Whatever Android version I'll flash on it, it does always strike back with some annoying bugs. Stock GB 2.3.6 works but many apps I have will not go along with it; CM9 (ICS 4.0.4) works, but hangs too often. CM10 (both JB 4.1.2 and 4.2.1) for some reason is so slow I can't even keep it for a day-to-day use, and it crashes frequently with no apparent reason. Finally I ended up using a CM11 nightly (KK 4.4.2), and seems to work, I'm still testing it.
But the point is I can't keep going on like this. It's more than a year that I don't have a stable configuration on the phone and I keep flashing ROMs and installing apps over and over every two weeks or so, every time going through all the settings again and again, restoring backing up and restoring... I'm just tired of it all!
Today, good news: A friend gifted me his HTC HD2 because he messed up with the software and the phone wasn't working anymore. I managed to flash the original WM6.5 OS and I found out that the touchscreen wouldn't respond to any kind of touches -> most probable cause, as discovered from searches, is the touchscreen controller which got broken. A touchscreen (only) would cost me around 25€ (around 35$ USD) excluded the costs of the actual replacing job. Not a very big deal, I may afford that.
I haven't tried an Android OS on the HD2 (even if wanted, I couldn't with a broken touch) but I see there are many custom ROMs available, and this is nice. Hardware differences seem to be not too big and honestly I like very much the HD2 design and the slightly heavy feel of it in my hand (off topic: what's all this thing about making phones light-weight? it's not like people would love to have a piece of paper in hand instead of a phone ). The Galaxy S is just awful from this point of view and as I said before, I am not satisfied at all with it.
The big question: is it worth spending money on the HD2, so I could replace my Galaxy S (possibly sell it)? Or should I keep the Galaxy S? When replying with your opinion on which should I keep, please add your reasons for suggesting such. And before you ask, yes, I have a whole life (apps) on android that I need so I would be using Android on the HD2. Thank you very much in advance!
Hello,
There are 3 threads devoted to discussions about devices, please repost your question in one of these three threads: The what should I buy thread or the The Device Suggestion Thread or the The Device Comparison Thread.

[Q] Huawei or HTC? (odd question, sorry!)

Hi there quick questionif anyone can help I'd be so so grateful.
1:So I know a lot of this is subjective, but I'm in the very fortunate position of having an HTC One M8 and the Mate 7. I like them probably equally in terms of all of the things I have access to now, but I'm someone who is on Android for control and support (from XDA!)
I've noticed there's very very little about the Mat e7 on XDA, and Huawei in general to be honest. is this because they're still relatively new? Would it be fair to expect new roms/kernels lollipop etc to eventually come to this device? Or is the mate 7 a far more niche and limited device, and I'd be better off with my HTC in that respect? (For example, it feels like developers rush to make things work for popular devices, eg when the HTC M9 comes out Cyanogenmod, Carbon Rom etc will all be working on a veri=sion for that straight away, but the Mate 7 might not get that kind of attention?)
I'm very happy with the M8, it's just the fingerprint scanner and mega battery life are lovely on the Mate 7. I suppose basically the question is, is this a phone I can put my faith in enough to sell my HTC? I've barely even heard of Huawei :s If someone is either able to reassure me OR tell me I've got plenty to be worried about, either would be fantastic!
And maybe if anyone is able to comment on which phone they would choose, that might help me even more!
Cheers
For dev support, you can always rely on big names as samsung, lg, sony, motorola and htc. What you said is true -- there is little to no dev attention to the likes of huawei, lenovo, etc.
That said, I came from samsung tab and samsung note 2. The dev support was overwhelming. I flashed differnt custom rom every week just for the fun and thrill of using something new. But I got tired too.
Then I got the lenovo vibe z2 pro-- a relatively new monster of a phone too! But it does not even have a separate thread here in xda, and I could not even get a phone case locally! Lucke enough, my brother got my vibe z2 pro coz he loves the aluminum build so much and he will just continue to pay for it.
I have been eyeing the mate 7 since it was announced. Loved the unibody design, the humongous battery and the fastest fingerscanner in android! So when it was launched in the philippines about 2 weeks ago, I preordered and was the first owner officilaly in thr philippines! Thats how excited I am!
I was looking to have the silver color though, but only the gold one was released locally. Also the silver one is the 16gb/2gb combo. So for the future, its nice to get the 32gb/3gb combo.
I think it is somewhat guaranteed that the mate 7 would receive the loliipop update considering its the new flagship of huawei. I just dont know when.
Do I miss my old note? You bet I am! Inspite of touchwiz being bloated, there is so much you can do with it! Plus the spen has a while wide use and functionality I have never found in any phone!
For now, I am contented with my mate 7, unlocked and unrooted. I guess its the thrill of using something new. And for its many features, its definitely value for you rmoney.

Best for rooting: M9, G4 or G6?

I'm in TMO because my M8 is dying and I can upgrade.
I always root my phones, so specs aside, which is the best choice for rooting?
I'm obviously no longer at TMO, but I'm still debating if I should get a new phone now through this Jump program? From looking into these three phones, they all sound like they are rootable. It sounds like the M9 might be the better rooting option unless I'm missing something? One other thing I need to figure out is what's upcoming and if I should just wait for the "next big thing". I bought my current phone about a month before the M9 came out and that sucked!
I have an AT&T M9, and it rooted as easily as my old M7. I would think that means the M9 will be rootable the same way as the M8.
Be sure to remove the AT&T bloatware, as ALL of it is running constantly on the M9. I kept the Visual Voicemail and Usage Manager, and dumed the rest. I also dumped HTC's photo editor (Picasa? I forget) and several social media apps I do not use (Twitter, Hangouts . . .). Great phone once the bloat is gone.
Thanks, yeah looking into it, both the G4 and M9 (decided against the G6) seem easily rootable. I've noticed that there aren't a lot of ROM choices for either, but that's probably because they are still relatively new.
I'm torn between the two...I have an M8 now and think it's a good phone. I like the front speakers and the overall design. But I also like the G4, it beats the M9 in a lot of reviews and performance tests. Plus I have a LG SmartWatch now and almost want to get the G4 to match it.
I just read yesterday that September isn't a good month to buy cell phones, so I may just hold out for a month and give myself some time to make up my mind and to see which of the two have better reviews and ROM support going forward.
We have a dedicated thread for these types of questions...
