I am currently using a Nexus 5 on 5.0 lollipop.
So I am using my nexus 5 and suddenly it's stopped charging and the charger dosent work with any other devices so I change the plugs but keep the wire and it works. But with another plug it says its charging but it takes really long to charge like 7percent every 30minutes. Also if my phone is charging while is turned on and being used, the battery will slowly go down.
I havent dropped the phone or amything.
BTW im using the normal lg charger that comes with the nexus 5.
Same for me, hope someone can help us

Hi All,
Is anyone having issues with their non-nexus 4 chargers charging on and off? When I plug my phone into my car usb charger (5V/1A), the charging icon flashes on and off; I didn't want to ruin the phone so I unplugged it. I googled it and saw this thead; someone mentioned that the N4 required a 2A charger so I wanted to see the experience here.

The charger I'm using: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Micro-Auto-Charger-5VOLT/dp/B002F0200Q
Stock charger is 1200 ma.
My HTC car charger gives 1000 ma and works fine for my nexus 4.

I haven't had an issue with the charging going on and off, but I have been having an issue when I'm charging and using the phone with a non-LG charger. If I use the one that came with the phone, all is well... But if I use any other charger like my old one from HTC, the phone heats up real bad and I get horrible thermal throttling. I've tested it a few times, always doing the same thing (looking at XDA) and the LG charger is the only one that plays well with the phone while charging/using.

I just checked with another USB wall charger that I had which puts out only 500mA; that one works fine... so I guess my car charger is broken.
I've been using the charger that came with my nexus one and had no problems. The last couple days I've been charging off my PC because apparently slow charging is better for the battery.
Hi Guys,
I have a nexus 5 and I noticed that my LG WCP-300 continue to charge even when the battery is full.
The charger works fine with my Nexus 4, it stops charging when the battery reaches 100% capacity but not with the N5.
I'm wondering will it affect the battery if I keep it on even tho the device says "Charged" ?
Thanks in advance
Interesting. My Nexus 5 just arrived and I'll be curious to see how my LG WCP-700 charger handles charging the Nexus 5 when i get off work.

I think they finally fixed the wireless charging. My N4 would stop then drain down then start charging again. I never knew if it would be fully charged when I took it off the charger in the morning. I'm certain the battery will not overcharge.
Off topic, what is the use of wireless charging other than not using a wire to charge ?

That is pretty much it, it just save you plugging the wire.

Apart from the convenience of just putting down your phone to charge it will save your USB port from damage so if you need to fastboot for repair / warranty / general flashing you know it will be in good condition if the time comes. My galaxy nexus USB port broke, plugged in the charger and noticed it wasn't charging after a while and plugged the plug to see smoke come out the port and the phone was very hot! It may have caught fire if left. So now that phone has a dead battery, luckily its removable so could be charged separately with out the phone. The screen would turn on and drain battery too. I'd fully recommend getting one if you can, I intend on getting one in the future.

I aslo have the WCP-300 with my Nexus 5. I am experiencing the same thing.
I wonder why they changed the charging. I know my Energizer Qi charger also does this because the charging light always stays lit blue.
Wireless charging on Energizer
I have the energizer charging pad and noticed the same. My Nexus 4 would stop charging and if it fell back to 98% would charge again. The Nexus 5 just stays charging at 100% and I have read that it can damage the battery overcharging like that. Can someone confirm that for sure?
nothing on this?
Bump
Not unique to the charger

Just for the sake of clarification. The same thing occurs with the Nexus 5 using the Panasonic QE-TM101 which (as above) worked flawlessly with the Nexus 4. So it appears to be the phone (not the charger). And in spite of people assuring us that this won't damage the phone (battery), I can't help but think that the heat can't be good for the battery and if it wasn't "actually" charging after it hit that 100%, then what's generating the heat (it has to be actively charging to create that heat). I plan to do some controlled tests to see if the same problem occurs with my OWL (Qi compatible but not Qi certified) chargers, and see if the charger is cycling on and off during the charge period or staying in charge mode. But every time I've awoke in the morning the Panasonic charger has actually been charging (charge light on) with the handset very warm.
I'm afraid that if it's not cycling then over the long haul the battery (or possibly the phone) may suffer ill effects due to the consistent heat.
Last week I updated my Nexus 5 to 4.4.4. Everything is fine except that my phone no longer charges using the official Nexus wireless charger. It was working fine before. I have tried my phone with other wireless chargers and it works fine. It is just with the Nexus charger which is connected to my car dash and is powered using the original cable. Nothing has changed except the update to 4.4.4. I am rooted but on Stock 4.4.4 and use Xposed.
I have rebooted but it does not help.
Any ideas?

I have the official nexus charger, an lg 3000 and one of the really super cheap Chinese chargers that stands up.
All 3 work in 4.4.4.
I am not saying "shenanigans" but I think there are some shenanigans. This is very likely a situation of something else changed that makes your official charger not work, having nothing to do with 4.4.4.
Check your setup. I'm sure everyone would seriously doubt an update, especially an extremely minor one, would cause wireless charging to stop working on just ONE type of wireless charger. Especially the official one. Hah

Tonight, I'll try rolling back to Stock 4.4.3 or a custom ROM and will report back if I get to the bottom of it.

I think it would be much easier for you to pull the nexus charger out of your car and bring it inside your place and plug it in to the wall and see if it works there.
FYI the official nexus charger will not work with a lot of power/usb cords because it requires a higher power than what some of them provide. It is also possible that through using it in your car the adapter for it might have became damaged.
Seriously.
Here is why I say this...My phone will charge on a wireless charging plate even with the phone turned completely off. Think about what that means for a second.
I did what you suggest. It charges fine so somehow my in car adapter had been damaged at the same time as my upgrade to 4.4.4.
I see your point about the charger working even without the phone being on. It means it is purely a hardware charging process. No firmware required, not related to Android.
Now I'll get a new adapter for the car and carry on.
Thanks

My battery seems to drain faster than it charges. I bought the phone off of craigslist and it did not come with the original charger and cable. I did have a nexus 4 and its original charger. I use the Nexus 4 charger, which is rated at the same 1.2a. Is it the charger or is there something wrong with my phone? I read a lot about slow charging and ppl searching for the right charger. I just want to be able to use the phone at night with a low battery and plugged in. Otherwise the battery does last a long time and seems healthy. I am able to go the whole day without a charge but i then cannot use it while I am home. Any advice is appreciated. I could prob RMA it if needed.
Just do a fresh install using Google's own images and see if it fixes the issue

This is a fresh install. I originally received the phone with Android L Preview. It was buggy and there was an unknown service consuming a large amount of battery power. I did a fresh install of 4.4 from Google.
I had the same issue with the stock nexus 5 charger. Turned out something went wrong and it wasn't providing enough current about 250mAh. I switched charger to a higher one and everything works as it should, charges in about 1.5hours. I suggest you download GSam App that shows the current while charging.
In settings/battery, when the device is charging, does it show USB or AC charging?
If USB charging, get a different charger and/or cable.
I got that app and I'm a little unclear on the readings. I see a positive number and a negative number. I got a -623 on the charger I have been using at work which is for a dell venue and I believe 2 or 2.1a. That one does seem to charge the phone OK. I'm at home now on my nexus charger and I have 431. I have a 131 not plugged in.
It says ac not usb

I started to read that but my issue is really with charging. My battery lasts a long time. I can go all day without a charge but then by the night it's in the teens. This normally would be OK but that plugging it in doesn't stop the drain. I do a lot on my phone before going to sleep, laying in bed. Now I can't because the phone just dies even while plugged in. I ordered the blackberry playbook chargers mentioned in another post. Ill have to see when the come in.
use a toothpick and clean the contacts on the usb, look for any lint and such... sometimes a bad connection may not let it charge properly.
Just use another charger, or cable and check the mA readings. - 1000, give or take, is good. Much less and it's the cable or charger.
Gsam can show you the value in the main screen... And it's a great app in general. ?
I am running a stock Nexus 5 with Lollipop. Since the OS update I have noticed that my Google wireless charging square (for the Nexus 5) will charge up the phone to 100%, but if left on the charger for some time, it then stops charging and lets the phone start losing charge and does not re-charge at any point. I have seen it do this now three days in a row where I leave the phone on the charger overnight and wake up to find it at 75-79% charge state. This never happened with Kitkat.
I also have a couple other non-Google Qi chargers and they do not have this issue. Anyone else seeing this?
Thanks
Yes. It will no longer charge wirelessly. I put it on the charger and it charges for a second then hops right back off. Currently it's on my desk flopping back & forth from charging/uncharging and making a god awful amount of noise.
This only started happening after I installed 5.0
I am using the official nexus wireless charger and it is working flawlessly in Lollipop on my nexus 5.
Mine is working but it is terribly slow and it heats up rapidly

Nexus 5 charge, 4 does not
I have a Nexus 4 and 5. The 5 chares on the Qi compatible charge but the 4 does not. The 4 cycles start/stops/starts/stops, etc. The only difference I know of is that the 5 was a wipe and install where the 4 was a upgrade from Kit Kat. Perhaps this is another of the bugs that is fixed with a wipe install?
Having the same problem. I have the original nexus charger, and 5 other Qi compatible chargers and all doing the same thing. Been getting worse and worse to the point where I can't even use one reliably with the case off.
This seems to be an issue on my Nexus 7 with Lollipop as well.....
a new battery from ebay, solved all my problems. Qi charger is working, battery life is back to normal. And the performance is increased back to where I would have expected.
Just upgraded my N5 to lollipop (clean flash) and my third party QI charger is working fine with my case on.
