How to view LCD display properties - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I read somewhere on here (for the life of me I cannot remember which thread) that I can view the display properties to determine the manufacturer of my M8 display (apparently there are two). I'm pretty sure it involved looking into last_ksmg, but I'm not entirely sure.
Does anyone know how to do this? I'm sorry that I cannot remember.

on-the-fly or per-app resolution assignment?

I didn't see an answer via Google of vBulletin search (maybe my terminology is wrong), so here is the question. Is it possible to change the resolution on-the-fly, or perhaps assign different resolution to different apps?
You mean something like nyditot display?
nyditot display
yes, thanks. That looks exactly like what I was looking for. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again!

What forum should I use to ask about VS

Hi I really respect the opinions of the people I have found on this forum and as I am getting to grips with visual studio for the first time I often have some questions. I know this isnt a programming forum so I was wondering if anyone knew a good place where I can ask my questions.
(if someone does want to help with my current problem how can I set the full screen resolution to 480x800 for my app, When I use the form property size to do this it works but when I run the app on my device it is zoomed into the origional small resolution area 200x300 or what ever it is)
smart device development msdn forum
Tried setting the anchor to left/right/top/bottom or dock to fill?
Interesting one this, can't say I've really got to the bottom of it yet either. The client area on an application run on an 480 by 800 device is reported as 240x348 in portrait or 400x188 landscape. These values are those returned by C++ in GetWindowRect(), (don't forget to get the size of the Menu/Control Bar at the bottom and subtract it from the above given rectangle), or use the C# form properties this.ClientRectangle.Size.Height and this.ClientRectangle.Size.Width
It appears it is being set by Windows CE/Mobile before the application even gets a look in. This the results from the 6.1.4 emulator image. If I find out any more I'll post it back here.

Help from other devs needed - webviews, invalidate() and onConfigurationChanged()

What does onConfigurationChanged actually do on a webview? (let me clarify that - I know what it's FOR, and I know how to use it and override it, but what does the guts of the original super.onConfigurationChanged do itself?)
The reason I ask is that I'm having problems in my browser mods (see my sig) related to a new feature I've added where it maintains the zoom level across pages (so you don't zoom out to a comfortable reading level only to have it blatted when you move to the next page on a site). I'm doing this by pulling back getScale and then using the value to setInitialScale on the webview. So, when a new page is loaded, it's initial scale has been set to the zoom level/scale that was being used on the previous page. Net result - user doesn't see zoom level change from page to page. So far so hoopy.
The only problem is that there's an odd bug whereby the subsequent page loads into same horizontal width as the previous page. So, if you are reading a really wide page/site, and browse to a new site which is thinner, then you have a horizontal scroll bar and the columns do not reformat as they should if you've got "Auto fit pages" on in the settings. However, if you zoom in and then out again, the reformatting happens fine and you have a comfortable viewing layout.
Now I would have thought that it was just a case of calling invalidate() on the webview at a pertinent point in order to force a redraw (and if I look at the source code for webview that's precisely what they do when they zoom in/out). But for some reason that doesn't seem to do anything in my app. If I call invalidate after a page has finished loading (which seems the best point for a redraw) nothing happens.
The reason I ask about onConfigurationChanged is that flipping orientation to/from landscape again also resolves the issue. So I'm curious to know what it's doing in there that's relevant above and beyond an invalidate().
I freely confess that I really know naff all about Android - my Browser work has largely consisted of me flinging code against a wall to see what sticks - so would appreciate any help from devs who do actually know their Android stuff.
(as an aside, I wonder if this bug in the webview was the reason why the stock Browser was never built to preserve zoom level from page to page? It was easier to settle for merely irritating behaviour in the browser app rather than resolve the bug in the underlying web rendering implementation!)

[GUIDE] How to identify your LCD Panel without Android running[AOKP][JB]

Hello, I have found a tech-guide by HTC how to identify your LCD Panel if your JB AOSP or AOKP ROM won't boot.
See Step 3 in the PDF attached
I hope it helped you
Look here for information about the right Display part (narrow or wide flex cable):

Thanks a lot, this would be very useful for a friend's DS. He was hesitating to try a JB rom because he didn't know which panel he has. But this makes the check really simple, so...
no problem, the other way to check this would be
dmesg|grep -i panel
but it needs to be in recovery or android
hehe i know i have a Sony panel since everything works for me, but its always fun to check out the internals
how'd you get that btw? just curious because it says: "Confidentiality: This document is only authorized for the assigned service partner in repair service and is confidential and/or
legally privileged. The document must not be copied or shown to anyone without HTC’s permission."
Sorry but I have to report this for distributing without permission if you can't show you have HTC's permission.
Edit: ignore my whining
This is fine for now. no need to take it down less HTC complains themselves, as these documents are easily found elsewhere too...
Thanks for sharing OP!!
A lot of research about HTC Phones and other manufacturers led me to some very intresting polish and slowakian sites
Also got the diag images e.g. leodiag.nbh (the one to reset the calltimer, change IMEI or S/N)

How to choose your phone

After spending few hours more than expecting on comparing specs of phones I was considering, I've started thinking few of things I've could help solve or speed up someone else's doubts ^.^
So, if you are reluctant to make choices based on cometics, here's my spreadsheet and steps:
1) went to http://www.gsmarena.com/search.php3
made this choices:
http://www.gsmarena.com/results.php...ize=5.0&sColor=&nBatteryCapacity=2500&idNFC=1
(changed them before finishing spreadsheet)
2) went to http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer
choose phones to compare:
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacom...id6=5592&id7=4557&id8=4343&id9=4934&id10=5764
3) copied data, fixed rows misalignment
4) in sheet 2 I've changed text values to more comparable, deleted some unrelevant rows
5) in sheet 3 deleted everything except values to compare, replaced some words/text
6) in sheet 4 put lookup->match values based on order/values of your criteria
7) make proper formulas to get info how big is the difference between models inside some criteria
8) get info what criteria takes how much of importance in result
9) compare that info in sheet 5, and scale function values to get proper order of criterias
10) 'volies', you have numbers to make a choice of your choice, just compare order index and price at you can get the phone xD
It is far from perfect, because criterias are ordered, but probably not perfectly compared, and there is much of induction, yet, a believe there is no benefit in checking it all deductively
If you didn't see some benefit in it, you probably laughed while reading it
thanks...but there is a thread for this stuff here...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1620179
