I am having an issue where I cannot delete nandroid backups. If I use a file manager to look in the twrp folder it looks like the screenshot below. The backups show in twrp recovery mode but impossible to delete. If I delete the twrp folder it just comes right back. What can I do?
Delete it from /data/media/0

Searched all over before making this thread but I couldn't seem to find an answer. Rooted my phone to install PAC-man mod. When I finished I made a backup of my original system with CWM. I flashed PAC-man but I'm havign issues and I wanted to go back but CWM can't seem to restore the backup. I checked, and it's still there but when I try to restore I get:
Couldn't open directory.
No files found.
Any ideas?
Is your backup stored on the phone storage or an external card?

Edit: before you go about following the steps I wrote below there is one other options. If you are using an app to try to restore the backup then this way should work. Manually boot into recovery mode click on backup and restore then restore from SD card and under the file labeled 0 there should be a folder listed as clockworkmod. From there you should be able to restore your backup if that doesn't work then follow the steps that I wrote about moving the file to the external card. Either way in the future I would recommend always backing up to the external card.
Assuming you're coming from a 4.1 build when you install a 4.2 ROM it changes the file structure of the internal drive. This is due to the fact that 4.2 roms support multi user functions. So most likely when you try to restore your backup it's located in a different path then it was originally.probly something like sdcard/0/clockworkmod instead of sdcard/clockworkmod. My advice would be move your back up to the external card manually reboot your phone into recovery and restore your backup from the external card. If you use DUP you have to move the backup and the blob folder. If you used a tar backup, just move the backup. When in recovery mode select restore from external SD card and navigate to the folder you put it in.
From here on out if you do your backups from recovery make sure you back up to the external card. If you use ROM Manager make sure before you do your next backup that you select under the settings panel to use external storage. The newest update of ROM Manager allows you to do so.
One other thing, once you restore your backup and your back to a 4.1 build it's going to look like your internal storage is wiped. It's definitely not use a file manager to browse the internal storage there will be a folder labeled 0. That's all of you data. Open that folder up highlight and cut all of the contents go back to the root of your internal storage(the folder you just came from) and paste it there. It will ask if you want to overwrite certain files just click Yes the only files that will be overwritten are the ones that were just made when you rebooted on the 4.1 system you will not lose anything.

What's the size of the back up? Are all the required files in there? Try updating your su app, then try making another back up and make sure it works. What version of cwm are you using? Is your system r/w?

the SU binary and the clockworkmod version should have little to nothing to do with restoring a backup especially when it says the file cannot be found. Thus far is the size of the backup goes unless you opened up the file and started jacking around with stuff that was backed up there's no chance that he's missing information. When it says the file cannot be located it's because rom manager/ ROM toolbox is looking for the file that was originally placed in a specific area and is no longer there hence the 4.2 file structure I spoke of.

You're assuming you know why I was asking those questions, and as a result that you're more knowledgeable than I am in this subject area. Besides human error, there are still numerous ways cwm, su, and the back up size can contribute to a failed recovery. We're both just trying to help.

I agree everybody just tries to help everybody that's what makes this website great. The only reason I said what I did is because I ran into this exact problem about 4 months ago so I know exactly what he's talking about. Sorry if I came off as a ass, I didn't mean to.

Is alright ,thanks for explaining though. No room for hate in a cwm debate.

This would make a lot of sense! That's my situation exactly. I don't want to try it just yet because I'm still trying to get a ROM working properly on my phone (PAC-man, having issues but that's for another thread). If I end up throwing in the towel and this checks out, I'll be sure say thanks.
I'm trying to do a Nandroid restore in TWRP but they are not showing up! I see them in my File Explorer under the TWRP/BACKUPS folder but when I go into recovery they are not there when I select 'Restore'. Help?

/TWRP/BACKUPS/device_serial_number/ is the proper directory structure.

Yeah my backups are in that directory, with the proper serial number.
Anyway, I figured it out if anyone else runs into the same problem.
After choosing 'Restore' in TWRP, I had to press 'Storage' at the top and choose 'Internal Storage'. Not sure why it wasn't selected in the first place.
Hello All
I'm aware that the virtual SDCard is on data/media/0 with assorted symlinks and mountpoints
Now, I see file changes on /data/media/0 being shown also on /sdcard and on /storage/emulated/0 etc as expected. For example, Titanium backups or Downloads,
Except for a TWRP backup I did earlier today. This is only shown in /data/media/0
An older TWRP backup inb the same parent folder is present on all mount points
I flashed TWRP this morning after a full wipe and flash of Lollipop.
The 2 TWRP backups are "before" and "after" upgrade backups.
Why is the later backup only visible on /data/media/0?

OK, so I originally had CWM recovery on my tablet and I created a nandroid backup through there to my internal tablet memory which used up like 5.5gb of my 11.95gb of usable space. Shortly after making the backup I decided to flash twrp recovery instead...
Now, how can I delete the CWM backup without having to reflash CWM recovery??
Just deleted the file

Thats just it, there is no file! The folder shows as being empty! I read somewhere that CWM now stores the backups as blobs or something like that and that you cannot see them using file explorers.
Edit: Nevermind. I finally found it! It was not in the normal internal sdcard folder like I expected... It was actually buried in the root of the device at /data/media/clockworkmod/backup
I have a XT1033
I've done a nandroid backup, complete with data.
I use AppLock. It has a Photo Vault feature, where you send your pictures you want to hide. I've put many photos there.
I've installed a custom rom over stock 4.4.4
So I did the Nandroid and then format. After that, installed the new rom.
Then I recovery AppLock with TitaniumBackup
Photos gone.
Then I recover that Nandroid backup, absolutely certain that there's no way my files would be gone with a Nandroid backup.
I open AppLock Photo Vault and.... nothing there.
I go to ES file explorar and try to find the files in the .dom0o7b1ile Applock's folder located in sdcard/0/
The directories are all there, but no pictures.
So please someone give some light on what the hell is going on here?? How could the nandroid miss the .XXXX directory??
thanks!
TWRP's data backup excludes the emulated sdcard. TWRP's "factory reset" also excludes the emulated sdcard. But if you format, it will delete all your data, so you should have copied all important files from "internal storage" (aka emulated sdcard) to your computer before.

If I get it right, /0 = emulated sdcard? What's the usage of this emulated sdcard? I don't understand how it doesn't backup that since all user files go there? You do a Nandroid backup to backup everything...

Yes, /data/media or /data/media/0.

User-managed storage space with no specific per-app permissions.

On some devices that's the only backup target (with no physical microSD card and no OTG storage), and it often contains a lot of data that you don't want to back up regularly.

Man I don't understand this.
/0, is it a shortcut to some folder? Which folder?
How to explain that the directories in the AppLock folder (which name starts with a DOT I don't know the meaning) are all there, only the jpg files are missing? it creates a folder with coded name ex 8943228 for each picture it hides. All foders, one for each picture, are there, only the jpg files missing inside.
Also, since the /0 folder seems to be a shortcut, symbolic link, what-so-ever, is it possible that the files still exists?
So did you format /data or not?

I did only after the full Nandroid backup.
Then maybe your data hiding software recreated the directories based on information in app-private data that was restored with your backup. As I said, the emulated sdcard (shared storage) is not backed up as part of /data since whoever wrote that code assumed that users would back up that data by simply copying it elsewhere.

But the strange thing is:
When I recover the backup that directory exists even without booting for the first time after restore... in TWRP file manager I go and the directories are there... but not the files... how can this be possible?
Also, since the emulated sdcard refer to a folder, which is that folder? is it a sym link?
???

Not possible if you really formatted /data.

In Android, /sdcard is emulated by the sdcard daemon as a fuse filesystem using /data/media or /data/media/0 as backing storage. In TWRP it's just a bind mount.

But how can the directories exist after twrp recovery and not the files (if I really did format /data because I don't really remember) ?
