Wifi takes a while to connect - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is not only on my Oneplus one, but also my Nexus 5. When I turn on wifi, it says 'connecting' (a second or so), then it says 'obtaining IP address' (this takes about 10 seconds) then it connects. When I had my iPhone 5, when I pressed connect, it would almost be instant, whilst on Android it would take 10 or so seconds. Is there anyway to skip 'obtaining IP address' or connecting to the wifi quicker? Cheers.

Wi-fi is KILLING ME

I have problems with my wifi.
My router is like 8-10 meters away and i cant connect to it , although i see it available. When i am in a room closer , like 3-4 meters away its working fine but still disconnects a lot. Whenever it disconnects i need to go to settings and press connect or wait for it to do it itself but it usually takes a while. It disconnects every minute or so , dont know why, sometimes more often sometimes it doesnt disconnect even for 30 minutes. I can live with it disconnecting but the biggest problem is that when it disconnects and i am surfing the net (using opera mini 5) i keep getting error spam : "The answering modem has disconnected , to check your connection settings and change them if needed press settings" , and another error about problem connecting to the gprs service in my home network. Is there any way to stop this spam? When i get this every f****** 10 seconds i wanna throw my phone -.-
Ah and if it changes anything , here are my settings
Connections - Connections - Advanced - Select networks
I have My Work Network in both windows
Connections- Wi-fi
In Network Adapters card i have set "my network card connects to : Work"
In Wireless Card -(name of the router) I have selected Connects to Work, Authentication WPA-PSK, data encryption TKIP ,(password).
Please help me. This disconnecting and error spam is killing me :/
What ROM & Radio verson are you using & what is the current wifi Power Save Mode setting in Wireless LAN Power Mode tab ?

[Q] GPRS Problem. Tethered connection getting lost.

what i observe is that internet (2g) on my G3 is fine
but when tethered to laptop (DELL 15R, windows 7), it doesn't stays ON for long
after like initially 3 mins it's on and connected i can view sites on my laptop
but, after that it shows tethered but there's no Internet on Laptop
to enable internet again i've to untick tethering and tick it ON back..which again stays for like 3 mins and so
also additionally in that 3 mins if a call comes, it kills off the internet on mobile.
plz help, any solution for this prob?

Surface Wifi Reconnect GLitch

So my Surface has been doing strange things lately. Even though I always select "Connect Automatically" when connecting to my home wifi, after every reboot I have to re-log in. What's more, every time I re-log-in, it appends a digit to the network's name.
For example, I'll connect to my network: WIFI
Then, after a reboot, I'll have to reconnect. But after logging in, it will show me as connected to "WIFI 2"
After the next reboot, I'll have to sign in to "WIFI 2 3"
And then WIFI 2 3 4, and on and on and on.
Right now I am connected to "WIFI 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11", and I am fed up.
What is going on!?

Known issue that MS is being terrible about addressing. It's apparently caused by the way some older routers do 802.11n. You can force Surface not to use those bands (which will downgrade it to 802.11g on the affected routers) to avoid the problem. Alternatively, turn off Wireless N on the router...

New phone is killing my home network

Hi,
I have a laptop, TV and iPod touch connected to my router via Wi-Fi, and a desktop via LAN. It's always been completely stable, rock solid. 2 weeks ago I bought a Sony Xperia T to replace the iPod, and since then the router has been freezing up every 15-30 mins, cutting off every device connected to it and not responding to any attempts to log in to it. The lights on the router don't indicate any problem and if I leave it alone it will unfreeze itself within a couple of minutes.
If I turn off the Xperia's Wi-Fi, the network goes back to being completely stable again all day. Turn the Xperia's Wi-Fi on and the router will freeze within 5 minutes and then again every 15-30 mins.
Google search tells me this is actually a fairly common problem with android devices but nobody seems to have any solution. I've upgraded my router's firmware, tried assigning my phone a static IP address, told the router to use g mode only, tried a range of different Wi-Fi channels, none of this had helped.
The problem happened on ICS as well as the recent Jelly Bean update.
Does anyone have any idea what my phone might be doing to screw up my router so much?

[Q] Auto Connect Nexus 5 Bluetooth to Macbook Pro for Smart Lock

I would like to have my Nexus 5, (Android 5), automatically link to my Macbook Pro, (10.10), via bluetooth, whenever it's in range, and stay connected as long as it's in range for the purposes of engaging Smart Lock.
I've paired them from both directions, and I can send a file from the Nexus 5 to the MBP. If I try to use the "Connect to Network" choice from the MBP bluetooth preferences I get a "Network is Unavailable" message on the MBP. Unfortunately, for any of these activities the BT connection lasts for no more than the time it needs to transfer the file, or a few seconds otherwise.
I don't need to do anything via the bluetooth connection between computer and phone, I just want it to automatically connect and stay connected when in range, or failing that, let me manually connect and stay connected when in range. If there's some BT app that can achieve this, please feel free to point me in that direction.
