Hello
How does ont turn off the XDA EXEC, i dont see any off button. the power button just turns the screen backlight on and off.
the reason why i wanted to know what it was is because i am porting my number across networks, and 02 told me to turn off my phone a number of times during the day, so that it could go into a boot up process.
There is no real way to trurn the device off, but what they will be wanting you to do is disable the phone section (do this by turning on flight mode, or by clicking on the green connections manager in the bottom and click on the phone button. Click the phone button again to turn it on.)
Start -> Programs - Wireless Manager -> All Off (This switches of the phone.
Then use the phone on/off button at the top of the screen there, to switch it back on and force your SIM to re-register with the network, which should have the desired effect your after.
Taking out the battery is the only real 'off' button.
thanks for the replies dudes
did you try holding the power button as well? that works on my wizard
not sure if it's true for all wm5 though
i held the power down button for some time and it blanked teh screen. when i held the power button again for a few seconds the screen came back to life, but this time there is no "back light(?)"
how do i get back the "back light(?)"

There remains a bug, it seems, that sometimes prevents the backlight from firing up when starting the device.
It used to happen on my XDA2i and still happens on my Exec.
I usually have to get it in a good light and go to settings and move the brightness slider to get it working.
Turning off the device, I find, is actually achieved by pressing the power switch before closing lid.
I find I get much more out of each charge if I do this rather than just close the lid.
That of course turns of the PDA functionality of the device. The radio (phone) service is still disabled via Flight Mode.
somehow i double posted...sry
thanks for the reply
i guess by pressing the power button, the pda goes ito some sort of sleep mode, since it does not boot up later, correct?
when it is charging up using a usb cable connected to my pc, the backlight is turned of, and no amount of pressing buttons seems to turn on the backlight, is that correct?
i checked out the brightness level sliders, there are 2, the
1. on battery which is somewhere in between
2. on power which is "slided" to the left, is that its correct position?
you will probably find it will selfboot at midnight.. this appears to have been intentional in the design of all the XDA's.
Thia can be a nuisance but it is probably to do with reseting timers. alarms etc
The backlight is configured to be on/off during external power and on battery in which ever setup you choose.
The actual levels you set it at are your choice ..
I set mine to be off after 5 mins on external power i.e. when charging except when i use tomtom and want it to stay on whilst externally powered.
On these occasions I change the setting before the journey
Your original question with reference to O2 making changes that required you phone to be off, in my experience, means not having the O2 sim in the device.
thanks for the reply dude
i think my questions have exceeded the remit of this thread. i will start another thread for the backlight questions
Hi everyone!
Has anyone found a way (maybe an app?) to change the screen backlight/lock behaviour?
What I'm looking for is the following behaviour:
Ability to have the screen only turn off the backlight after a certain amount of time, with
a) option to lock the device at the same time
b) option to also turn off the part of the screen that reacts to touch at the same time
c) options to set the timers for the aforementioned options separately
Basically I want the device to turn the backlight of the screen after 30 seconds to save power, but stay responsive to touch so that I don't need to pick up the device and press the power button before I can use it.
Then, after about 5 minutes, it should lock itself but respond to key presses, so that it can be unlocked without needing to press the power button.
Then, after another five minutes, the screen should completely go off and stop responding to touch altogether (the way it is on Android by default).
Has anyone found a way to do this? It would be REALLY useful for when you've got the phone laying flat on your desk and are IM'ing with a slow typer, meaning you've got 2 or 3 minutes between each message, and need to press the power button every time you get one...
It shohuld be a default setting in my opinion...
Thanks in advance!
Ok guys.
I have a seriously annoying problem that has been here since CM6, at least since I started running it in late January, and is still
in CM7. Whenever you're listening to music, and have a screen lock delay (mine is set to 1 minute) whenever you press one of the
volume keys to adjust the volume the screen turns on. Yes, I have volume rocker wake unchecked in settings. This only happens during
the 1 minute time though, after it locks then the screen doesn't turn on. So if I had screen lock delay set at 5 minutes the volume
keys would continue to turn on the screen for 5 minutes until the lock activated. This happens if you have a lock delay, if you don't
then they never turn on the screen (unless you have it enabled in settings or you press one immediately after the screen turns off.)
If you have no lock/protection then this doesn't happen either, but if you have a delay it does. Please help, this wastes battery
life and is very annoying.
For me to use Google Now on my watch (ex. Ok Google - What is the weather forecast), it only works if the screen on my phone is on. Doesn't matter if it's on the home screen or the lock screen, the screen just can't be turned off (sleeping). If it's turned off (sleeping), Ok Google will open on my watch but cannot connect.
Another problem I noticed when my phone is sleeping (screen turned off), playing music on my phone and the music controls (volume and change track) on my watch does not work. As soon as I ctap the home key or the power button to turn on the screen (wake up), the music controls works perfectly! But a few seconds later when to phone sleeps (screen turns off), controls no longer works again.*
Another issue I've noticed but maybe not related, my emails are not pushed to my phone. A few times, I opened my email apps and I needed to open them or refresh to see emails come in.
Something happens when my screen on my phone turns off (sleeps) but found nothing on the web and nothing in the phone settings.
Can someone help me?

Hi, I started having the strangest issue 2 days ago. Phone model is Samsung Galaxy A50.
I have been unable to unlock my phone once I pressed the lock button or if it went to sleep (screen off).
The only way out of the issue is to restart it by pressing volume down and power for 5 seconds. I put the screen timeout to 10mins (which is the maximum). But no long term solution. Whenever the screen turns dark it stays dark. If a call comes in, the phone vibrates (or ring) but any interaction with the phone is impossible. If I play music, the music continues once the screen is off. The sound can be turned up or down, but it's the only thing that can be done.
While the screen is on, changing the volume via the buttons affects the actual volume of the music, but there is no UI indication that the volume changes, no popup nothing.
So all physical buttons are working correctly.
I have trie "reset parameters", I have tried "reset all data" (backed up everything through Smart Switch). It doesn't change a thing. The phone is reset (still on android 11 though, although I bought it on android 10...) but the issue remains.
Now something very interesting :
Just now, I setup Phone Link for windows 10, so that I am able to see and answer texts and phone calls while at the office. Which works, it sort of defeats the purpose of a "cellular" phone but well...
HOWEVER : while my phone is connected to my desktop through Phone Link. I can lock and unlock at will, change volume and see the UI pop up (via the windows interface or directly on the phone, same behaviour) It's basically fixed. I thought it was fixed for good, so I disconnected my phone from Phone Link. The screen went black as before and there was nothing I could do except reconnect it via Windows 10 (then it immediately starts behaving as usual again...).
My guess is it's definitely software. I just don't understand why a factory reset didn't do the trick...
I wanted to try and reset through the bootloader, but I never managed to effectively get into the bootloader (through volume up and power while the phone is off).
I do not recall making any updates or installing anything just before these symptoms occured. I did install a firmware update that was available after these symptoms started but to no avail
Has anybody seen this before ? Thanks in advance
