[Q] Word prediction

so has anybody else noticed that the word prediction (when having the phone keyboard set to regular touch input and not Swype) doesn't regularly show up when using the hardware keyboard?
I've noticed that, in order to get the word prediction going when using the hardware keyboard, I'll first have to close the keyboard, start typing with the on-screen keyboard to initiate the word prediction, and then open the keyboard and resume typing, at which point the word prediction continues..does anybody else have this issue?
I havent noticed that yet. Although most of the time I enter a program and after I get frustrated trying to type on screen I switch to keyboard.
I remember having a similar issue, although it only seemed to happen to me when entering into the messaging app sometimes. It was a mild annoyance. However, it completely went away when I installed swiftkey X. I highly recommend you get it. Imo more than worth the money. It's the fastest and most accurately predicting keyboard I've tried, particularly with hardware support.
It doesn't seem to be working for me very well, but do make sure you enabled correction by going to:
Settings > Language & Keyboard >Touch Input > Hardware Keyboard Settings > Prediction.

Hi Sinfamy, thanks, I did make sure that that setting was enabled. The prediction does show up, but again, only after I've first started typing with the touch keyboard in portrait mode first...if I start off an email or SMS with the hardware keyboard open, the prediction never kicks in.
I'm also gonna give swiftkey x a try and see if that helps.
swiftkey x is working great, and it seems like it'll be really good with its predictions too...thanks for the suggestion!
The best thing about SwiftKey is that it only gets better the more you use it! Keep in mind that although you cannot enter your personal dictionary and edit it like you can with other keyboards, if a prediction you don't like keeps popping up, you can press and hold the prediction to remove it.

nice, thanks for the tip napilopez..
is anybody else using keyboard manager to switch between keyboards for landscape and portrait, and finding predictions not showing up properly?

[Q] turn off/stop virtual keboard when using dock?

Is there a way to stop the virtual keyboard from popping up on screen when it is in the keyboard dock, also is there a way to stop the text I am writing into the stock browser from dissapearing under the full screen keyboard when typing?
Thanks
I couldn't find a way, but I got round it by clicking the v on the bottom menu (Next to home) which closes the onscreen keyboard down. Its a bit of a faff tbh. But at least you can get to type on fullscreen. To see what you're typing, just use the arrow keys/the text tag and scroll down.
Has anyone found a solution to this problem? It is so annoying. Everytime i touch the screen to edit, the virtual keyboard pops up. I use the up/down keyboard Key, below the Enter Key on the virtual keyboard to minimize the virtual keyboard. I have cheked the settings and there is no option to disable the virtual keyboard. Any suggestions anyone?
I don't have a dock but use a bluetooth keyboard from time to time. To avoid the same problem I have installed null keyboard from Google Play store which works well for me.
Works brilliantly thanks just what i was after. I've got the note docked and the keyboard hasn't appeared on screen once while typing this. Only thing i had to do was set it to the default keyboard first in the settings under input.

Samsung Keyboard Dock & Softkey Keyboard

Having owned a Asus Transformer I'm used to how well the hardware keyboard works and particularly how it always disables the softkey keyboard whenever I was using the hardware keyboard.
I've been frustrated with the Samsung Dock in that it never disables the softkey keyboard. Seems any keyboard will force the Note back to the Samsung Keyboard if you have something else selected. I've used Tasker to detect my bluetooth keyboard, delay a few seconds, and then switch to "null keyboard" and then back again to my preferred softkey keyboard when I turn off my bluetooth keyboard.
One problem is that Tasker doesn't have anything that works with detecting the Samsung Keyboard dock. I wish the tablet would just automatically disable the softkey keyboard when I have the OEM keyboard dock attached. Afterall, why would I want both? Besides the annoying use of screen real estate there is some bug where occasionally a popup appears saying "US English" and then I lose whatever keystroke I was typing when that comes up.
Anyone else using the keyboard dock seeing issues like this? Does anyone know of a way to disable the softkey keyboard when I've attached the samsung keyboard dock?
I use External keyboard helper. It should let you switch to a null keyboard when an external keyboard is connected. You still have to choose it as input method by clicking on the pop-up sincd apparently Android does not allow automatic switching for security reasons.
Also, sometimes it wouldn't make the switch back after disconnecting, so I set up a Tasker profile that offers you the choice of input options every time bluetooth keyboard is connected. Now it's just one click to switch it in or off.

You actually can have Android switch input methods if you have root and are using Tasker. You have to use Secure Settings plugin to do this but it works great. Problem is I just can't get tasker to notice this keyboard (works great with my BT keyboard) and besides the point, I was hoping Samsung would have better integration with their own hardware.

Autoswitch virtual keyboard?

I just got the official Samsung keyboard cover for my Tab S2. It seems that the bluetooth keyboard doesn't work properly if the default on-screen keyboard is Swype (my favorite). I have to manually select the Samsung on-screen keyboard to make the bluetooth keyboard work correctly.
Is there any way to automatically switch to the Samsung on-screen keyboard when the bluetooth keyboard is turned on, and switch back to Swype when the bluetooth keyboard is turned off? There is a power switch on the bluetooth keyboard, so turning it on/off is not a problem.
Thanks.
I have a partial solution for now. I installed Swiftkey. It doesn't show the virtual keyboard when the Bluetooth keyboard is turned on. It does still show the word predictions at the bottom, however. Not quite as annoying as Swype. I'll have to use Swiftkey for a while and see how it compares to Swype, which I've been using for years.
If anyone has a solution to my original problem, I'd love to hear it.

Make typing keyboard default instead of handwriting keyboard

A few updates ago, the handwriting keyboard appeared às the default keyboard. I know how to switch to the typing keyboard, but it is only temporary. Every time I start to search in the browser, the handwriting keyboard is the default.
The handwriting keyboard also lags for about a minute...sometimes longer...and I can't click to change to the typing keyboard. I also can't write on the handwriting keyboard because it freezes up.
Can someone help me permanently put the typing keyboard as default? Thanks.
