Root Sony Xperia M2 Aqua [VIDEO ADDED. Android 4.4.4 UNLOCK BOOTLOADER] - Sony Xperia M2

VIDEO POSTED/ADDED. http://youtu.be/HVE57D43exE
I SUCK AT WRITING TUTORIALS. FOLLOWING THE VIDEO I MADE WILL PROBABLY BE EASIER. Im not responsible for any of the stupid messups you do blahblahblah all that good stuff.
I know this is sort of a stupid guide, and my "method" is stupid, but it will save people with the Aqua who are very determined to root and save a lot of time and research. This is my first tutorial and i've updated it to suck less.
1. Download the following tools: XperiaFirm, Sony RIC killer, FlashTool, Sony PC companion (for /some/ the drivers), Sony Fastboot driver, android SDK, SuperSU-update.zip, and the CWM boot.img for the original Sony Xperia M2 (Don't get hasty. I'd follow this step by step if I were you, no matter how many devices you've rooted THIS IS DIFFRENT. Make sure you've unlocked your boot loader. Stuff like that.)
2. Install things that need to be installed, move the sony fastboot driver into android SDKs extras/google/USB_Driver folder, replacing the existing one (Im pulling this off the top of my head, if it's named something else but close you get the picture.) I freaking hate this part. I'll let you figure installing the drivers out.
3. Open XperiaFirm, go to your device name and select it's model. Select the latest firmware for your m2 aqua and download it.
4. After the firmware is downloaded, open flashtool. Go to TOOLS>BUNDLES>FILESET Decrypt.
5. Select the folder you downloaded your firmware from XperiaFirm as Source Folder. Add all the files to "Files to convert." Click "convert." THIS WILL TAKE A WHILE, LEAVE IT ALONE UNTILL YOU SEE COMPETED.
6. When it's done, a window pops up letting you create an FTF out of the files. Add all the files except for the .ta files and click continue (Or whatever it's labeled as, again top of my head.)
7. Allow it to convert, when it's all done minimize flashtool for now. We don't need it again untill the end.
8. Move your boot.img for the original sony xperia M2 (Not aqua ) into the platform-tools folder of android SDK. Put your device in fastboot mode by holding down the VOL UP while plugging in the USB cable while it's off and flash the boot.img with "fastboot flash boot boot.img" THIS WILL ABSOLUTELY BRICK YOUR DEVICE TO WHERE IT WILL BOOT INTO CWM BUT NOT ANDROID. When it's done flashing, type "fastboot reboot"
9.Click the volume up and down keys repeatedly. (Like, up, down, up, down, up, down, and so on) until you enter CWM. From here, scroll to "Install zip" and navigate to and install your superuser flashable zip.
10. Go to advanced, reboot bootloader. It will ask if you want to fix superuser. Click yes and it will continue to reboot. From here run your fastboot reboot command. Once your device powers off, quickly connect the USB cable as you hold the volume down to put your device in flash mode. This is the part where we fix your kernel (the reason your aqua won't boot into android). Return to FlashTool and select the lightning bolt. Select Flash mode. Click on the firmware you packaged earlier. Now, go to the exclude box and uncheck everything except kernel. This will fix your kernel, leaving su binarys in system/xbin. Click Flash and wait untill the tool is finished.
11. Reboot your phone into android. You are now...somewhat rooted. The /system part. is write protected due to Sony RCIS. Open Sony RIC killer V2 on your computer when the device is done booting. Run the application on your computer and reboot your phone. You are now fully rooted!
--If you happen to make a mistake while your rooted or whatever, go to flashtool and flash the firmware you packaged (NOT EXCLUDING ANYTHING) If you do this, have fun doing all this crap over agian.
IM ADDING IMPORTANT DETAILS STILL. SORRY.

But You need unlocked bootloader If You unlock it first w/o root and making DRM keys backup, You will lose them.

ROFS
I should have mentioned to unlock your bootloader first. But there's a bigger problem. Even though the SU binary is in /system/xbin and other files for superSU are present, it seems that any operation involving writing to /system fails! Not only this, but when trying to remount it as r/w it gives "Read only filesystem" error in system logs. I'm not sure if SuperSU is broken or what's wrong. Everything else /seems/ to work. (Orbot transparent proxy and changing Cpu clocks seems to work). Any ideas on what can be done, or why my "method" (pft) didn't fully work? (Btw, the system acts as any rooted device does, at first glance.)

How To Turn S-Off, Install MoDaCo Clockworkmod Recovery, and Install a Rom For Dummie

OK, I've read a lot of comments about people having trouble installing MoDaCo clockworkmod, or even turning their devices S-off. But my guide is going to go step though step of how to turn your device into a lean, mean killing machine. It took me days to accomplish this when i first got my device, hopefully this will take you under 30 minutes! I'm a junior member, i know, so cut me some slack, PLEASE.
WARNING AND DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOUR PHONE. FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK, EVEN IF IT FALLS APART IN YOUR HAND, OR BECOMES GODLY FAST!
1. The first thing we need to do is turn S-OFF for your mytouch 4g slide. It is probably the easiest thing to do, other then installing a rom on your device.
a. You will need to download the usb drivers for your phone, DON'T SKIP THIS STEP, or you'll wonder why your phone isn't discovered by the software. You can find those drivers at this website right here:
http://www.htc.com/managed-assets/support/software/htc-sync/setup_3.0.5579.exe
After you have that software installed, plug in your phone, and give it a couple minutes to install all the correct drivers for your device, then make sure you go to the bottom right of the computer and exit out of that software, it can't be running when your trying to S-OFF your device. Now I dont think you have to have the fastboot drivers installed either, but why not, lets go ahead and download those files and get those installed too.
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe
After you have those installed, its now time to move on.
b. Now thanks to unrevoked and AlphaRev and their team, you will go to their site at http://revolutionary.io/ and you will scroll down and click on Download for Windows (If you can take everything I'm saying and do the linux version, right on!) at that moment a download box will appear, but do not download those files, download the files from this website http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BP2E3ZQ3 .But you will need to enter some information in the box below after you click on windows download, just remember, you don't need those files. Your operating system, device, HBOOT version, and serial number. Your HBOOT version can be found by taking your device, going to apps, settings, power, and uncheck fast boot, then power it off, i always power it off and then pull the battery out, makes me feel safer...and soon as its off, holding the volume down button, camera button, and power button all at the same time. You'll then see a screen with the android bots on the bottom are rolling on skateboards. At the top should be your HBOOT version, and there is only one option on the site, so hopefully your in luck! For your serial number, take the battery out from this screen, don't push any buttons, and on the sticker under the battery, your serial number will be there starting with HT--- or power your device back on, then go to apps, settings, about phone, phone identity, and wala, your device serial number. After you enter all that information into the site, it will generate you a beta key, YOU NEED THAT IN ORDER TO S-OFF AND ROOT YOUR DEVICE!! So write it down somewhere, copy and paste in word, do what you do
c. Now we have everything downloaded, we have our beta key, its time to get to work!
d. The file you downloaded from megaupload, "MT4GS-ADB-WINDOWS" you need to extract that file into a folder on your desktop. Make sure you open the folder mt4gs-adb, and extract the files out of the folder, so you should have 12 items in your folder on the desktop, not just a folder in a folder! I created a folder called "root mt4gs". You want all the files in one location. After there all extracted, open your folder on the desktop. On your phone, go to apps, settings, applications, development, and click on usb debugging and make sure the check mark is blue on the right. Now plug your phone into the computer.
Now in your "root mt4gs" folder, double click on revolutionary. At that moment it should ask you for that beta key i told you to save. Go ahead and enter that now (its case sensitive). Let the software run for a couple minutes....
Now after it says S-Off, your halfway there!! Your HBOOT will now say 1.44.1107. That way you know its done! It will ask you to install clockwork recovery mod, say NOOOO, it has hella problems. It gave me problems when i said yes the first time, i'll show you another way.
e. At this moment, we're going to install clockwork recovery v4.0.0.9, thanks to Paul O'Brien/MoDaCo, the gods lol. First, turn your device off/pull the battery out, thats what i do. Then hold volume down button, camera button, and power button at the same time. It should show you the skateboarding androids, and at the top it should say -Revolutionary- in purple. If it doesn't, don't continue, retry all steps or message me. Then plug your phone into the computer, and using the power button as the selection button, push the power button as your highlighted over FASTBOOT. It should say FASTBOOT USB at the top in red now.
Now believe it or not you already have the file you need in your "root mt4gs" folder. Your now going highlight all the files in your "root mt4gs" folder to the root of your hard drive. Click on My computer, double click on your c: drive, and paste those files right on there, do not copy the folder, or put these files in a folder!! Now your going open a command prompt. {Hold the windows key and tap r}. Then type "cmd" without the parenthesis and it should open up a black box.
Now type cd\
Your command prompt should now just say c:\> thats what you want it to say
Now your going to type adb.exe
You should see a whole bunch of words flash on the command prompt, the last couple words should say "bug tags are printed." That means your right on track.
From here, you are going to type in fastboot devices
it should have the serial number of your device and the word fastboot right next to it!
Now, here comes the tricky part that i got stuck at, but i know you can do it! Now this will work if you put the files exactly where i told you to put them. you now will type fastboot flash recovery c:\clockworkmod.4.0.0.9.img
it should say " sending 'recovery'
okay
writing recovery'
okay
finished. total time: (mine is 10.400s)
Now to make sure it's intalled, on your phone, click power button and you should now see fastboot, recovery, factory reset, simlock, and imagecrc as options, use your volume button to go down to recovery, and click power button.
You should now see clockworkmod recovery 4.0.0.9.
f. Now lets put superuser on your device so you can be free!
click on this file and download it, DO NOT EXTRACT IT
http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
Now after you have downoaded that file, on your phone, use your trackpad, and scroll down to "mounts and storage"
then scroll down to mount usb storage. now you should be able to put files on your sd card, make sure you put it on the root of your sd card, not in a folder, it doesn't matter, but i prefer it!.
Now unmount on your phone by clicking the option, click go back, and then scroll down to "install zip from sdcard" and click on it, then click "choose zip from sdcard". Find that file we just put on there "su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip", and click on it, then click yes. Now click on go back, and click reboot system now!
Now if you want to stay stock, your done, your rooted, so now just install root checker, and busybox, and your good to go, if you want to do some roms, keep on reading.
Now you cross your fingers, and grab a soda, because we're 75% done!
g. Now is the easy part, all you do now is download the roms from other developers, copy them to your sdcard, then turn off the phone, hold volume down, camera and power button, go into recovery with using vol up and down buttons as the selector, and the power button to confirm your option. As you enter clockwork mod, you can then go follow the directions of the developer as to wipe certain sections, and how to install there roms/patches. YOUR DONE
If you have any questions, please let me know, also I didn't make ANY of this software, this guide just has every link to get you everything you need at one spot. I also have the original file to make your phone completely stock, so if you need that, let me know and I'll upload that and send the link out.
If you want to donate to me, donate to all the other og's first!

Oh dude no worries, a thanks is just as good. I appreciate it, it took me days, so I'm happy I could help brotha!

Ok let's figure this out.. on step f, you did unmount your sd card, right? I haven't dealt with this problem before so if I ask a stupid question, I'm just trying to solve this. Also you don't need to wipe anything to install superuser, so that could be the problem also, so reboot ur fone, and let's try step f again! Keep me updated please!

It took a lot of us several attempts to flash the superuser zip. The 4.0.0.8 recovery isn't the greatest. Keep trying until it installs and you get root. Then upgrade to the modaco 4.0.0.9 recovery right away. It's not perfect either but it fixes a LOT of the issues known with 4.0.0.8.
And a comment to the OP, this is an incredibly helpful walkthrough! If only people would actually search and find this before posting new threads like "how do i root" and all that crap.
Thank you.
Great job on this and thanks for your work. I wish I would have had this tutorial when I did mine.

OK ill reexplain is there an icon in the apps drawer for CWM to select to reboot etc. because it didnt install one on the MT4Gslide as on my MT4G.
I know something is goofy as SU wouldnt flash, I had to install the new version from the market.

Oh, now i understand. No there isn't. I don't have one at all, as soon as I installed clockworkrecovery, and superuser, I flashed undeads rom on there. And I've been reading that superuser is being buggy when installing it on this phone through cwm...I'll look into that tonight, see if i can find the root cause.

You probably just have to download ROM Manager from the market, I think that's what you're referring to. There isn't a whole lot of support for our device in ROM manager right now, however, and I haven't checked to see if the "reboot into recovery" works. Go into settings > power > and uncheck fastboot. Then, shut down your phone, wait 10 seconds, hold down the volume down button and turn your phone back on. That'll get you into recovery. Did you get superuser to install? Are you rooted?
Mine won't switch from "revolutionary" in purple at the top to "fastboot" at the top.
It says fastboot USB about 6 lines down, but that's it.
When I type "fastboot devices" it errors and says:
'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Currently on that URL is a approx 14 MB rar file download, I _think_ I just got it sorted!
I don't have time now to make this pretty, but some others who want to hack. add links, etc feel free to work with this...
in fact I dont know if all these steps are required.
General Broad steps (ymmv, you are doing this to your own dang phone, dont blame me for bricks viruses or earthquakes etc, etc/ etc).
on your computer, uninstall adb, pdanet and any other tools that use the adb drivers and dlls, reboot as needed.
install the mt6575 drivers (I forgot whether I downloaded these or if they were part of the 14 meg file) reboot as needed
power down phone.
remove battery from phone, don't plug into computer.
launch flash_tool.exe
load the included scatterloading file MT6575...emmc.txt
press the download button
plug in phone to usb
put battery in phone
watch the blinkinlights for a few seconds, wait for the big green O
then I disconnect phone and ensure power down.
install SDK
power up phone and plug in
test adb (adb shell)
kill adb server
download and install superoneclick
download extra superoneclick exploits
launch superoneclick
click the big root button.
Test (you can use something like rom manager)
Now people should be able to try to install various CWMs.
I haven't gotten that far yet.

It is working very well.
No need for you or anyone to wait.
Just please know what you are doing (do you have basic understanding of recovery mode, roms, factory mode, and the dangers) in other words, if this is your first time doing this on a phone.. ask someone who knows what they are doing for help because I am not able to put together a documented procedure, but the findings above should allow someone else to do that. Additionally, I have no idea of the legality or safety of the software at URLs above.
conceptually this is 4 steps
1) flash boot.img that will allow cracking
2) crack to get SU installed
3) install Mobile Uncle Recovery mode and app
4) install gapps.
The MobileUncle recovery mode is Chinese, But the mobileuncle app is kinda like rom manager, it lets you set up what happens at next boot so you don't need to read the chinese in recovery text mode.
The patched rom is working for me in English with root, no detectable problem except FC on google partners (and I can't tell if that actually does anything). Remember this is not a new rom, just a patch to the huawei rom that allows a root crack.
There are about 4 chinese apps that I am afraid to uninstall..
one appears to be a chinese app store too, kinda fun to browse
gapps must be flashed with mobileuncle recovery (don't just unzip them)
US google play store is working.
I am fully migrated to this phone now and use it for daily work.
Good luck, and remember that this is why you got an android instead of a i-Thing.
Thanks thanks again. I'll try it and don't worry this is not the first time to modify a mobile. If it is all ok i posted here.

Ok... It was successfully working on my phone. I have root and change recovery and then installing gapps. Almost of the apps is working of the play store. Thanks again and hope there is a release of ICS or JB rom for our phones.
See ya!!!:good:

This does not work for my u8812d, gives an error using flash tool
Still not rooting

Thanks for the steps though the problems are still coming thick and fast, I have a new U8812D from China, no China unicom splashscreen but lots of 'bloatware' still. I've been trying for days to root this thing and nothing's working.
I'm pretty sure I need root access becasue the phone is currently preventing me from adding my Gmail account and using the google play market and apps, other bits and pieces like assigning incoming call number to a contact are supposedly fixed by getting the google thing right. The phone is good but I'm missing alot of functionality.
If the above description sounds like rooting is not the solution, please let me know and point me to the right forum, if rooting is the obviously the only way out, I'm hoping to clarify a few step in the above walkthrough to help me and others.
1. I cant install the mt6575 MediaTek drivers, installing directly gives error 'driver cannot be installed this way' there is no COM-LPT port in my device manager to attach it to as a manually locate driver, I can add a COM port with add remove hardware but I have Code 10 error, device cannot start and doesnt seem to accept the mt6575 driver as an update even when forced to it with locate new driver, apparently this is no problem from other forums, still bugging me. Maybe I havent the right files? how do i get COM-LPT ports to show up properly?
2. when 'install m6575 drivers ... reboot' is the phone plugged in? to what device do we install the drivers or should it be automatic?
3. launch flash tool, i have located two versions of the MT6575...emmc.txt file, one delivers error, block count fail and has no files paths for the item in the main table, the other refuses to open, giving error, incorrect scatter file format. The latter has considerably more data in it when read in notepad.
4. Becasue of these errors, SP flash tool does not download to phone. all subsequent steps fail.
Assuming the initial flashing steps are successful, I must to use SuperOneClick to root the phone, where do I find the extra exploits needed? or are tehy automoatically sourced by SOC? Succeeding the root access step, I assume i can freeze the apps causing problems to my google sign in or delete them. Or could I please be directed to the ATTPlain rom mentionned by JohnnyParanoia in 'Almost All Huawei Stock Roms (Firmware) - Updated 28/06/12' board.
Since so many of the resource files I've trawled through are bung, anyone who can point me to reliable/tested files known to work with the U8812d I'd greatly appreciate in on top of the great appreciation I already have for your patience with a Noob. I located the 14Mbit .rar file mentioned above but not all parts worked, had to dl the different programs individually and some files had to hunt down form fileshare sites.
Lastly, i am using an HP laptop, Windows 7 64-bit, Thanks in advance.

[Q] NEC Medias W N-05E root? (dual screen phone)

Hi!
Is there a root available or in the works for the dual-screen NEC Medias W N-05E?
The question has been asked (no answer so far) at the end of a thread under the N-05D but that's a quite different model.
I'd like to create a separate thread for this model to give it more visibility. Hope that's ok!
Thanks in advance!

OK! I've made some progress on this: the japanese blogger "dupondroid" appears to say that run_root_shell (hosted at github)
successfully gives temp root. At least, that's my necessarily blurry understanding via google translate. Would any japanese readers here be able to post a better translation?
And a thread at r-2ch dot com links to the github commit in run_root_shell which made that possible: it's commit ID 811be8639aed64c158798a72a1d520a4d21e8b8b "Support N-05E"
Code:

So it definitely seems temp root is possible.
Sorry for the lack of links but I'm a new user so can't add them for now.

root is easy via a tool called impactor.
however it's only temporary, I couldn't get /system mounted for rw. so I made a new recovery image to push.
that didn't work either, although I cannot write to recovery there is no error. recoverybkp was successful.
Also I found that the code to enter in recovery mode is based on your imei.
If I remember correctly digit 2,12,13,14 of your imei.
So possible attack vectors are:
1) kernel module to unlock partitions
2) figure out how update.dat files are constructed.
3) write to recovery partition

I used impactor 0.9.14, you just hook up the phone using microusb and put the phone in usb debugging mode under development options. then selecct "# start telnetd as root on port 22" from the pulldown and click start.
Then using a tool like putty ,telnet to your phone on port 22 (make sure it's connected to you wifi network when you do).
What android version are you running ? 4.1.2 is vulnarable for this attack.

Thanks for the reply . I tried to run the command in impactor but whatever i do i get "Signature bugs unavailable" could it be that i have the wrong ADB drivers installed or is my Impactor setup wrong?
Edit: yeah im running 4.1.2 Build A1001231
You could try if you can just get an adb connection working.
with commands like
adb devices
adb shell
If that works then the rest should work as well.

How to Root Medias N05e
Dear All Pro
Does anyone show me how to root N05e? because there is very few information about that. I want to Swapfile to increase Ram size but it required N05e must be rooted.

There is a way for temp root N05E, basically u can use pm disable command or other su stuff. But u cannot mount system rw right now.
Some news about rooting
If someone in doubt, temp root is 100% working with run_root_shell https://github.com/android-rooting-tools/android_run_root_shell
With this I was able to copy full system, boot and recovery image. But I can't push new boot or recovery.
More than that, almost all fuctions in standard recovery mode (available through "reboot recovery" in root shell) are protected with some code. And it's not 2,11,12,13 numbers of IMEI.
Anyone know where to get this code? Or how to write new boot, recovery image? If we do so, we can get permanent root access =)
Maybe someone have Japanese friends? Search all English web, but maybe in Japan web there are some info.
P.S. with Impactor you only can start talnetd from root, becouse Impactor can't remount /system in rw mode and ro.kernel.qemu=1 option is not working
How to enter recovery mode?
Despite starting this thread, in the end I never did bother to attempt rooting.
Anyway, unfortunately now the phone refuses to boot. Not triggered by anything obvious, haven't installed any new software recently, etc. Just hung one day and then when I removed and re-inserted the battery, it won't get any further than the "docomo" splash screen. I.e. the OS doesn't appear to be getting bootstrapped at all. The "docomo" splash screen appears and disappears then the phone sits there with both screens powered up but blank.
As it happens, I had ADB Debug enabled in the developer options at the time, so I've tried to see if I can adb shell into the device, but no luck. Not surprised as it's clearly not getting far enough into the boot for that to work.
Any other suggestions? From the way it happened I do suspect it might just be hardware failure....
Not even sure how I enter recovery mode -- what are the key combinations for this?

In recovery mode, clear cache, etc..
To get there hold volume down and power at the same time, then you'll see the broken android then wait/ press vol down a couple of times to see the menu.

[TUT][ROOT+CWM+GAPPS]InFocus M512 Root, CWM and GApps tutorial.

So there is a bargain chinese 4G phone called the 'InFocus M512'.
The problem with it is that it comes without Google Apps and also is not rooted (sometimes is). Also it does not have CWM Recovery.
So this quick tutorial shows you how to root, install CWM Recovery and install google apps on the M512.
I'm not responsible for any damage
Rooting:
Method 1
1.Go to settings>>Security>>Check Unknown Sources tap OK.
2.Download this file.
3.Install
4.Run and tap 'get root' or somthing like that.
5.Delete KingRoot and some chinese app, but DO NOT DELETE KingUser!
6.Done!
Method 2
Flash CWM Recovery using the 2nd method from this post. If you have rooted usign the first method use method 1 from that post.
Download UPDATE-SuperSU-x.xx.zip (i used 2.46)
Reboot into CWM.
Select Install zip>choose zip from /sdcard>select UPDATE-SuperSU-x.xx.zip, press power button
Reboot now
GApps
1.Download this zip file
2.Reboot into CWM.
3.Select Install zip>choose zip from /sdcard>select the file, press power button
4.Reboot now.
How to delete KingUser (only if you have SuperSU and it is working)
Download ES File explorer, enable root explorer, go to /system/app and delete KingUser.
So this is how to get root, cwm and gapps on the m512.
First Method no good for me
I put the kingroot file in the adb tools folder and used the install command. It wasn't clear from the above whether the phone needed to be in recovery or some other mode so I tried a few times, in recovery mode and again just connected as an mtp device in the normal way. Either way the result was the same, it said "Invalid APK File: KingRoot.......".
I will have a go at the CWM thing next.
I am still on the 103A ROM that the phone came to me with - I have been trying, on and off, without success to update and then root it , for months.
When trying to flash an update ROM it tells me that the update package has unexpected contents and the there is an error in the update file and then says "Status 7". You can read all about my lack of success on this forum under the threads M512 started by Galaxy Why.
I'm trying, I really am....
Let me start by saying thanks for making the effort to post what you know and so to help people like me, however.
I tried to follow the method 2 (as I don't have root) from your other post (the one linked to above with the words "the 2nd method from this post" but got stuck.
Your instructions in normal my comments in italics.
Method 2: (No root)
1.Connect your phone via USB to your PC. OK
2.Enable MTP. OK
3.Enable USB Debugging. Settings>Developer Options> tick USB Debugging. OK
4.On your computer, 2 drives will appear: One of them is a CD-Rom which contains all drivers. OK
5.Click on that CD-Rom and it will install all drivers. It doesn't, or it may do, but what it definately does is asks me to put a disc in the drive and tries to do some kind of dir_all in windows explorer - I would post a screenshot here but this page only allows URL's- and I'm not sure how to go about that.. but I think I've managed to upload a screenshot....
After waiting for 5 minutes or so to see if something would happen as the green progress bar ground to a halt but the busy circle continued I hit the cancel button on the "please insert a disc dialogue" and then ploughed on anyway ....
6.Plug phone in again. Now this had me confused, I assume you mean unplug AND THEN plug the phone in again.
7.Download the .ZIP file and extract it somewhere. Which/what zip file do you mean exactly?? I couldn't get past this.
8.Click on _install_cwm_6.0.5.1.cmd
9.Your phone will ask you something, just tick "always allow from this computer" and hit OK.
10.Your phone will reboot into DL Mode, then it will reboot again.
11.Recovery is installed.
It's late and I'm tiring so sorry if missed something obvious. Any advice?

Looks like you don't have a adb driver
And... why do you want to root your phone? Installing CWM is not root required.
M512 comes with a unlocked bootloader, just boot into bootloader and you can flash anything you like.
I made a customized stock rom based on version 2280, bloatwares removed and Google Play framework included. (You can download the apps back from Play Store, if you needs those)
Now the phone has 2.09GB free spaces :victory:
If you were interested on it, I can upload it and give you a link.

[SOLVED] Wiko Rainbow Jam seems hard to root: I'm looking for help

Hi all,
I have a Wiko Rainbow Jam (which is provided with the stock rom "Wiko Rainbow Jam version 8", Android Lollipop 5.1 and the latest updates from Wiko), is about a week that I attempt to root my phone, but I am unable to do this operation, since I am totally unable to mount the /system as RW, and furthermore the bootloader is locked.
Firstly I found this method which consist to write/flash the TWRP custom recovery in place of the original one:
Root method 1
(sorry for the Google Translate link, but I cannot find the same how-to in English)
Which seems similar to this how-to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63803008&postcount=5
But seems that these two methods will wipe/erase everything on my phone, and I would avoid this risk.
I also read that by flashing another custom recovery I will be unable to install updates from Wiko.
Then I tried this method using adb which is more simple:
https://f-droid.org/forums/topic/tutorial-how-to-root-an-android-device/
But when I launch the "adb root" command, all that I get is "adbd cannot run as root in production builds"; so I attempted various workarounds to "fix" adb, but all unsuccesfully.
I have to mention the fact that I have some skills in using Linux and the shell commands: maybe there would be a way to place the "su" binary on my Phone using Linux on my computer, by logging on the phone as root user, by acquiring the needed privileges?
Any help/suggestion/hints would be very appreciate! :good:
Kind regards.
I have a mtk6580 phone and also had the root issues, for a while I used kingroot, which rooted fine but I didnt trust it. Then I used supersume to get rid of kingroot which seemed to work but again, wasnt 100% it was all gone. Followed a similar guide to your first link which wasnt working. What worked for me was:
Download the twrp recovery .img file
rename it to recovery.img
open SPflash tools
add your own scatter file from your stock rom
deselect all the boxes except recovery
double click the recovery address box and find the renamed recovery.img
click download
plug your turned off phone in,
let it flash.
reboot into recovery
select reboot system
TWRP will tell you its not rooted and ask to install superSU
swipe for yes
reboot and you are rooted.
NO DATA LOSS
Thank you for this detailed how-to! However, for me, nor kingroot, kingoroot, framaroot and no other apk worked on my phone, so I will attempt to try your method, but first I have some questions:
1): On my phone, under SETTINGS > DEVELOPER OPTIONS, I can see the option “OEM unlocking”: I have to enable this option to permit the flashing of the TWRP img?
2): Is ok to download TWRP from here? dl.twrp.me/i9300/twrp-2.8.6.1-i9300.tar.html
3): "add your own scatter file from your stock rom":
where I can get/grab such file?
4): "TWRP will tell you its not rooted and ask to install superSU":
so TWRP is already provided with the SuperSU utility?
5): To be sure to avoid any risk, here I have a backup of my phone, which was done using "adb backup -apk -shared -all"; in case of emergency I will be able to restore my phone using this backup?
Many thanks for your attention! :good:

Ok, seems that such file was available in the first link:
s000.tinyupload.com/download.php?file_id=53888272183191245346&t=5388827218319124534686744

Many thanks!
1) cant hurt to turn it on, however the phone will be flashed whilst turned off so dont know if its needed, but Im sure I wouldve enabled it.
2) and 3) I dont know what your exact model number etc.. is for your phone, so the twrp you would have to find and check yourself, go here: http://www.needrom.com/category/others/u-v-w-x-y-z/brands-w/wiko/ and you can try to get a twrp from there, and definetely get a stock rom. Use the scatterfile from an 'SP TOOLS FLASHABLE STOCK/UPDATE ROM'
4) yes
5) I dont know, I dont use adb and wouldnt like to say its OK. You can use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h3r3t1c.onnandbup&hl=en which will make a TWRP or CWM backup of your entire phone which you can then flash in TWRP or CWM once they are flashed, or get all the data from the backup. I would advise to find this out before trying though, just in case. I personally didnt lose any data, flashed twrp in SPtools, took 5 seconds, rebooted, added SU, rebooted, took 2 minutes and everything was still there.

Ok: it was painless differently from what I thought: now, following your advice (I used the TWRP and the scatter file from the first link) my phone is nicely provided with the root access
EDIT: was necessary to activate the “OEM unlocking” option under SETTINGS > DEVELOPER OPTION, without this option activated, I was unable to flash the TWRP recovery img.
Many thanks!

Glad it worked lots of guides I saw also made it excessively complicated, this way took you what? 2 minutes? And am guessing all your data is safe and untouched.

Yeah, it took about 2 minutes, just the time to figure out that I needed the USB OTG cable with an usb mouse and to browse to the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.76.zip file (as I said I used the TWRP posted in the first link, which doesn't work with the touch screen).
I want to say thank you again for your friendly assistance!
EDIT: Yes: all my data is safe and untouched!
