So, with the device S-Off'd, there's that ugly red "This build is unofficial blah blah blah" text when it first boots. What is the best way to just get rid of it? Is that even possible?

I tried rebooting into recovery to perform a factory reset because the update from .21 to .22 doesn't get through, but after POWER+VOL_DOWN and subsequently VOL_UP, I am confronted with a dead Andy -- with a hatch open and a red warning triangle. The unit reboots itself after while and gets into Android itself OK.
This is a damaged recovery, right? How do I go about fixing this? Fastboot (seen some threads in the G1 forum).... Amon's recovery (not available for the T700 yet, I think). I've never had this before, so I am at a loss on how to progress.
Is there CWM available yet, or is that not an option if your recovery is unbootable in the first place?
Andy is dying! Help me help him!

Not sure about recovering the stock recovery, but installing a non-stock one requires an unlocked bootloader which we dont have yet.

Thanks for the reply -- indeed, all the guides I've read to get to CWM or Amon Ra's recovery all revolve around getting that bootloader unlocked. I sure hope development in the TF700 picks up soon, and fast, and we can get some luvin' on this baby. This obviously is not that critical an issue, but I would like to flash a custom recovery and at least have a nandroid backup when the proverbial excrement hits the ditto ventilator.

Thanks for the suggestion, but when I have the SD card removed, recovery boots as it should with the report that the "signature has matched" -- in that sense removing the SD card doesn't make a difference, as far as I can tell -- but then cuts off and Andy dies again with the open-heart surgery image.
And then, while I typed this response, I tried to turn off the TF700 by pressing the power button, and voilá, the recovery is there. So I just had to push the power button to not harass you people with n00bie posts... Lesson learned, thank you!

How did you do that? Just power down? I still have the dead Andy image after installing TWRP with GooManager...
Any help is more then welcome!

If you are completely stock, then that IS your recovery. It is telling you there is nothing to flash/install. It does not mean its broke or damaged.

@Tyolorw: although I would have appreciated your help very much back in the day this thread is almost a year old. The TF700 had just gone retail (although I had it before it went retail) -- nobody knew what meant what.
@musicfreak: I obviously cannot remember what I had done to revive it. Sorry.

Are you positive you are unlocked? You must be unlocked, not only rooted, to install TWRP using GooManager. Also, if you still have no success you can always use the fastboot method.

Ehm sorry, very stupid but I was only unlocked not rooted!
Now I'm both and that is better. And... I've learned how to get into Fastboot.

Good job! Any custom ROM you flash from here will probably provide root access in the package, so you won't have to think of that again (on this particular device, of course ).
I currently have an unlocked boot-loader, with clean-rom 4.2. I'm beginning to think my phones battery is bad (haven't done all my testing yet). I have an extended warranty with best-buy (basically they take it back in any condition). I want to revert the phone back to stock and remove the splash screen when I start the phone that say's basically "this is an experimental build......". I would also like to re-lock the boot-loader just to be safe. Any help would be awesome, I also have Mac, not sure if it's harder to do it on one or not.
You will want to first relock your bootloader, then use RUU to get back to stock. JeepFreek has written a nice tutorial on how to use RUU on a mac.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668156
Your bootloader will say "Relocked" instead of "Locked". There is nothing that can be done about that until S-Off is achieved.

Yeah i saw that post earlier, I already have a similar program to Virtual box and am just gonna use that. I looked up how to relock the bootloader and i know it will say re-locked. But for a technichan to see that they would have to go into the bootloader. My main concern is that when i boot the phone normaly i get the htc splash screen with red words underneath that basicly say, that this is a test version of android. I'm not sure if thats just because of my custom rom or not.

Those just appear when you have an unofficial boot image (which now gets flashed with custom ROMs once the devs figured out how to do it). I think the red text will be gone when you RUU and the boot image goes back to stock.
Okay thank you, like I said. I wont be trying any of this stuff till im sure my battery is faulty, but if i determine it is I will give these steps a try.
Thanks again
You'll never get rid of the "***RELOCKED***" text in hboot.
So im trying to return everything back to stock but im having trouble getting rid of the "Custom" pad-lock symbol, if i understand right, this is generated by having a custom recovery? ive flashed "stock" recovery using EZ-Recovery but no luck yet. am i doing it right?
My device had that custom unlock screen since the very first boot...so have others. I wouldnt worry about it!
Can you take a picture of this custom unlock screen? I keep hearing about it but don't know what it is or looks like.

Oh do a search on it...there was alot of pics floating around when it was first discovered. Its just a black scree with a half open padlock that says custom.
I have gotten it but not from a custom recovery. I gother it using a ROM and then side loading a couple apk files. This was on Clean ROM.
I have never got the unlock symbol with the words Custom ever with the Synergy ROM.
To get rid of it I used Odin and a stock ROM and started over.

Only way to get rid of it is to run a RUU but it will still say relocked but you wont have the red writing.
The writing is actually in mmcblk0p12 but touch anything, you could get a brick.

If you have a custom splash screen, it gets in the way quite bad.

OK.. here we go.. I bought my VERIZON M8 the day it was released. I came to this site, after having successfully put the viper Timon my DNA. Not exactly.new to this but I'm in a bit of a mess. I have tampered above unlocked on my bootloader screen and when I boot into the ROM I am using... A message flashes at the bottom saying for development use only and other legal stuff from HTC. What steps can I take to remove those? I have permanent s-off and weaksauce still installed. Is there a toolkit like for the m7 or am I missing something? Help is appreciated.

I see a message about "Development use only for HTC" or whatever when booting into the bootloader (or recovery...or both...I can't remember), but it doesn't affect anything. Is that what you're referring to? Also, remove Weaksauce like the S-Off instructions told you to do.
And what exactly is this "mess" you're in? If a message flashes across your screen and then your phone finishes booting into the ROM, that doesn't exactly sound like a mess to me...

I guess I'm just ocd. I dont like seeing those messages if i dont have to.I had originally. Removed weaksauce.. but put it back on when the permanent. Root didn't take effect properly. Is everyone seeing tampered? If not I'd prefer to be able to get rid of it as well.

If flashing the superuser zip didn't work correctly for you, that's an issue you should probably look into...
Like I said, I don't see it say "tampered", I just see the "This build is for development purposes only" message when I boot into recovery. You're sure you see it when booting normally into the ROM itself?

Yeah, but unless if he also flashed a custom boot.img (or a ROM that has a custom boot.img included), or is actually booting into recovery when he sees it, he shouldn't be seeing it when he boots into the ROM itself.
Edit: I just misread the OP, apparently he may be using a custom ROM, I didn't notice that before.

Sorry Guys, I should have told you which ROM I had flashed to.. SKYFALL★| |►1.12.605.11◄|4.4.2|VZW||ODEX/DEODEX||►1.2◄|April.10. I'll follow the directions pointed to in the thread above when I get home.. Still leaves me with "tampered" when I boot into recovery or bootloader.
