I wanted to gather some feedback after many of us have had the phone for several months.
In my second week of owning the phone, I put a simple screen protector on and have not taken it off. The bare screen was so smooth and so easy to clean, resisting fingerprints which the screen protector collects like there is glue on it.
Have any of you been running with the device sans a protector, and if so, how has your screen fared in terms of nicks and scratches? I would love to peel mine off if I can be reasonably confident it can live without it.

I just ordered my Moto X but I can speak from experience with other Gorilla Glass 3 screens. If you are careful with them you will most likely not get any easily visible scratches, but odds are you will get minor scratches that are only visible under sunlight/directly under a lightbulb. If that would bother you, keep a screen protector on it. If not, take it off.
I just ordered my motox, I was wondering what screen protector or tempered glass you would recommend (I'm from the UK)

Based on what I've read in the tempered glass screen protector thread, there don't seem to be any companies putting out a tempered glass screen protector that works perfectly with the Moto X 2. Because of the slightly curved screen, none of the glass screen protectors will stick properly around the edges.
I haven't used a screen protector in at least 3 years. I hate them, and think they are absolutely pointless. What's the point of protecting the glass if you are never going to actually USE the glass?
I'm using the matte screen protector from Moto's site. Actually really like it. It does degrade image quality when light colors are shown though. Regardless, the matte effect is pretty cool and just having a tiny bit of protection puts me at ease since we still don't have high quality tempered glass options.
You are using the glass, you're looking through it!!
I'm looking for a good screen protector for my Moto X.
I tried these, but they weren't good:

Anybody tried a good one?

I have not used screen protector in a few years myself. They won't help if you drop your phone. Also with Gorilla glad it is very hard to get scratches, however I have gotten some micro scratches that can be seen with the lighting just right.
With this phone I have had it for a month now and no scratches.
I really think the screen on this new Moto X is great and I would not recommend a screen protector.

I've dropped mine two times, the second of which was from about 5 feet straight onto concrete. The phone bounced, landed on the screen and slid about a foot. There's not one scratch on it. No screen protector or case. Don't know if I'm extremely lucky or this thing is a tank.
I have dropped my Moto G (1st gen) 57 times. Yes, I keep count
The screen still looked perfect before I gave it to my dad when I got the Moto X. There was one small scratch on the plastic on the back, but it was pretty minuscule in size.
I love the feel of the glass too.
I really don't think screen protectors are necessary even if you are as clumsy as me. I could just be lucky too...
Bad Luck
I've dropped my Moto X 2nd Gen 3 times now and all 3 times the screen got a new crack. I'm getting it replaced since I got MotoCare. The curved glass adds some weakness and since these curved edges extend out past the frame that is the first thing that hits on front face falls. I'm looking for a screen protector, if one exist, that will be able to wrap around the edges.

Here's the thing about screen protectors. The cheap (and not so cheap) plastic ones are mostly unnecessary. They won't protect against drops very much (maybe some of the wet apply ones) and give off a way worse feel to the finger than the pure glass. They do protect against scratches, but IMO it's not worth the effort nor the cost.
However, the new(ish) tempered glass screen protectors change a lot of that. Sure, they're kind of expensive, but they actually protect against drops, feel like the glass that's on the phone, and protect against scratches as well. However, it's incredibly apparent that due to the design of the Moto X, few companies are bothering to make this type of screen protector for the phone, and the few that are have made products that don't fit very well to the phone. So there's really no good option here in terms of screen protectors.
From what I've read, there isn't really a good tempered glass screen protector for this device yet. It seems like all of the decent ones still have issues with the sides lifting up due to the curved edges. Has anyone found that covers the entire screen and doesn't have this issue?

Curious of people's thoughts given the inclusion of gorilla glass 4 which is supposed to be pretty good. If you are going to use one, standard or going to thicken it up with tempered glass?
I don't put them on with phones using a curved display, in this case 2.5d or whatever they're calling it. I don't like when the tempered glass doesn't cover the entire screen. I'll just be using one of the clear spigen cases
Already ordered a $4 tempered glass protector on Amazon and should have it here by Tuesday.
I prefer glass since it feels better than the plastic protectors but thats just my opinion. It's either you protect with a case and some form of screen protector, or you don't at all.
I haven't tried a screen protector since my droid incredible and even took that one off. I get phone about every 6 months and have never used them. No scratches visible to naked eye on any. Doesn't mean they're not needed at all, just not for my uses or wifes
Nope. Never had, never will. No screen protector, no case. I'm just careful with my stuff.

youre just like my dad, i don't know how he has kept his iphone 5 and currently 6, in perfect condition w/o any protector or case
I've got an S3 in perfect condition without a screen protector. I won't be getting one for the S6 either but I WILL be purchasing a warranty plan from Samsung.. just in case.
i never installed one on my S3 and sold it after having it for a year without a single scratch,. i have an S4 now for the past 2 years, no protector and screen is still flawless as if it came out of the box.. so my S6 won't have one either.
My Nexus 5 shattered pretty easily, so I'll be using a tempered glass screen protector
I'll be ordering this.
Had my current device (at least the one I've kept) with nothing but the paltry Gorilla Glass 2 on it for over two years now. Screen remains in immaculate condition.
No screen protector for me.

There are two versions of it. The dry one is the one in the link and it doesnt cover edges of the S6 edge. There is a wet application version which covers the edges.

K, thanx for the heads-up.
Yes. It wouldn't hurt to have a screen protector on your phone. It's added protection. Here's what I've found on Amazon. It's currently on sale for $1.95, pretty cheap yet high quality screen protectors. Check this out.
IllumiShield
i work construction, phone is in my pocket all day. i use my legs to help pick things up and push so im real interested in this temp. glass
never bother with a screen protector with any of my phones with gorilla glass. Even though gorilla glass still scratches none were noticeable with the screen on. The feel and clarity of a naked screen is so much better than any screen protector including temp glass ones. I would only consider a temper glass screen protector if im not using a case but i rather have a bulk of a case than having to use a screen protector.
Yes, Spigen as always!

I literally never ever drop my phones and can usually keep my phones scratch/ding free, even on the screen.
at most i'll buy a phantom skin/invisihield to use on the back of the phone when i lay it on a surface, but the screen always stays uncovered.
I ordered a screen protector yesterday for $1.99. It'll be more than sufficient until some of the glass ones are refined and are perfect.

I am waiting for my Galaxy S6 arrives. Does the screen easily scratched? I don't want to take extremely good care of it.
And also does anyone try using tempered glass protector? How does it feel compared to regular?
I have preordered an extended battery case and they promised to give me a tempered glass protector. I'll let you all know how it works once I get them.

I got the zagg tempered glass protector and it feels pretty solid. IMO the gorilla glass 4 feels a bit better but it's super clear and feels nice.
The S6 is made of Gorilla glass corning 4 so it's pretty tough but it wouldn't hurt to have some sort of protection. I have IQShield screen protectors and it provides full coverage. Check them out on Amazon. Also it's currently on sale.

My screen on my S6 has scratched really really easy, only had a few days and there is a one inch very deep scratch on the screen. in all the years I've had a phone I've never scratched a phone so badly as this. The worsted thing is i have no idea how it happened. had my S5 for about 18 months with not one single mark or anything to the phone screen

Sorry to hear about the deep scratch. I don't have a screen protector on mine yet, though I just received the BodyGuardz Ultra Tough. I've been careful, but I'm not using a case or screen protector at all currently and have just been putting it in my pocket thus far. I would say scratches were much easier to put on my previous phone, which was the crusty old S3.
OP, I think that the screen can and will scratch somewhat easily. I think that if you don't want to take extra precautions with the phone on a day-to-day basis, I would recommend getting a screen protector and/or a case. These just allow you to be a little more clumsy and not have any repercussions. (or fewer repercussions.)

doesn't scratch easily but my oleophobic coating is already wearing and ive had it since april 10th
i've had the phone since launch and been using it without screen protector and have not notice any scratches at all. Im not careful with my phone too. Put it in my pocket with keys and change regularly and put it screen down, since the camera makes the phone slippery when it's on smooth uneven surfaces. With previous phones, nexus 4 and 5, they would have some micro scratches by now. I dont get this obsession over getting scratches on a screen that are not noticeable when the screen is on. You are only going to have this phone for a year or two so i dont see what the big deal is.
I got a small scratch after using the phone for one day. Probably due to a grain of sand in my pocket or something like that. I'm planning on getting a screen protector not only to prevent further scratching, but also to ensure the current scratch won't be visible to the naked eye. Albeit knowing that there already is a scratch truly grinds my gear.

I sometimes miss my old moto x 2013-- that thing NEVER scratched no matter what. I had that thing naked for a two years and I re-sold it in immaculate condition. I dropped that thing dozens of times, and it was never harmed once. I miss that thing...
I had a fine scratch on mine after a couple days of use. Luckily Rogers let me exchange mine anyway cause mine had a slightly looser than normal home button.
Quickly put on a tempered glass protector on both the front and back.

I'd recommend the Tempered Glass Screen Protector,Thin, transparent.
Tempered glass protection screen of mobile phone film is currently the most high-end products to strengthen the protection of the.
The protective layer thickness of only 0.1 mm, can completely cover the original screen surface, prevent external damage, scratches, more shock absorbent, 5 times higher than the standard PET film. The video has no effect on the screen.

Thank you for your opinion-- do you have a brand that you recommend? I think we all know that glass screen protectors are the way to go, but it's a matter of which company you buy from that determines the success or failure of the screen protector.
i scratched the flash/heart rate monitor sensor glass, luckily everything still works and i'm thankful it wasn't my camera lens
I have the S6 for one week nude and no scratches, though I am very careful.
I am just a little annoyed by the reflection rainbow effect the screen does under sunlight, will a tempered glass take it away?
Hello, I was wondering if anyone here thinks a screen protector should be used with the Moto G 3?
To contribute I'll share my own experience. I first ordered my Moto G 3 with a Sparin Tempered Glass screen protector from Amazon. Two days after getting the phone I went on a trip for a week and on the last day a single grain of sand got in between the screen and the protector, rendering the protector useless. The Tempered Glass was amazing in terms of clarity and resistance to scratches and finger prints. Now I'm using a cheap generic Japanese screen protector. 3 days and it already has a few scratches.
I just want to know if it is really necessary to use a screen protector. The few days I did not use one the screen remained perfect. I just cleaned it with a microfiber cloth. But I'm afraid if I go without the protector I'll eventually see a scratch on the screen and regret all my decisions in life.
i just bought one by iq shield, from amazon, myself. i've only had it two days, but i really love the feel of it. it's got great clarity, feel, and went on super smooth.
i hope i don't end up like you with a scratch under. i don't spend much time on the beach here, but there's sand everywhere, soooooo....yeah
i got one for the same reason you did. i always scratch the screen and i end up regretting not using one. i just hate the feel of plastic under my finger so much...it really ruins a big part of the gorilla glass experience, imo. granted, the tempered glass isn't 'gorilla'....but damn it still feels sexy
I think we have beat the tempered glass subject to death here... I removed my half-peeled off Tantek tempered glass protector and tried to apply a new one, didn't go so well, this one kept lifting right below the bottom speaker and I tried a little heat from a hair dryer (from a YT video) and it got worse instead of better... long story shortened, the new one is broken and went in the trash and my phone has no screen protector in it's Poetic Affinity case.
Are there any plastic film screen protectors that fit well and don't feel like cling wrap? Supershieldz seem to have mostly good reviews on Amazon, and 6 of them for $6 is pretty cheap.
Is it really worth it to use a simple film screen protector if it isn't tempered glass since we already have Gorilla Glass 3?
Gave up
I thought of this and ultimately decided on not using a screen protector at all after having no luck with tempered glass. Unless you're going for 5+ years of daily usage or live on the sand or use your phone as a cutting board, I don't really feel that they're necessary for anything other than accommodating for the massive and annoying lip that is found on many protective casings.
Realistically, how long does it take to scratch a screen up real bad? I had (and still have) a tempered glass protector on the Note 2 and only ended up with two small, minor scratches on it after nearly three years of daily use.

I would say that you should look at the old screen protector you removed and determine how scratched it was. Just a few after a year or more of usage, your probably fine running naked.

Yeah, it looked pretty good actually... Probably just going to go plain.
Been I using mine for a year and a half with no screen protector. Just an incipio octane case most of the time.
Can't see a single scratch even in bright light, at an angle, with the screen off. It has held up quite well.
I too have been thinking of going without a tempered glass. But a few times my phone drops on the screen side and then I thank my tempered glass. It's worth it for me, because if the screen breaks it will probably be very expensive to replace and I don't want to spend anything more than 2 dollars on my moto x style
I used to use zag screen protectors they make a plastic one that felt ok not great with my note 3 went to glass never looked back until the moto x pure but i don't think ill go back to plastic ill probably stick with glass and put up with the slight halo
i have had the best luck with pleson on my moto x i have scratched the glass protectors and my old pleason saved my screen. The biggest thing i don't like about this phone is the lack of good cases all of the cases suck and the otter box is poorly designed...
I have dropped getting a screen protector after getting a Galaxy S3.
Gorilla Glass is pretty tough, and I have had my Pure for probably 5-6 months now, and I do not see any noticeable scratches. Not that it is flawless, just a few very tiny scratches that I would not see unless if I looked very closely. Just go naked, and be careful when you're near sand.

Yep. Sand is a pristine screen killer. I really have no choice since I live in a coastal city. Sand is everywhere and needless to say, my glass screen protectors scratch up very noticeably within a year (doesn't matter the brand either). I baby my phones even with a sturdy case so it is not neglect on my part. I typically use a holster as well so that sand that may be trapped in my pocket cannot do a number on my screen protectors.
Anyone out there using the LG V30 without a screen protector? I've gone through two of them already. Neither has yielded a good result. The latest has the edge curving to it, but the glue is only applied at the sides and bottom. The top of the phone is open. As a result, I get tons of lint and dust between the screen protector and the screen itself. And off course, since there is no direct contact throughout the middle of the screen, touch response and sensitivity is horrific.
For this reason, I'm considering ditching the screen protector altogether, but I'm really worried about scratching this screen. Gorilla 5 has its shortcomings in this area. What's the experience of other LG V30 owners been?
Got mine in december and I applied the same kind of glass screen protector right away, with glue only on the sides. And of course, lint and touch sensitivity problems just like you... I got quickly fed up, after a couple of weeks I ditched the screen protector an got a nice case (VRS Design -https://www.amazon.com/Vrs-Design-VRSV30HPSSS-Shield-Silver/dp/B0768ZVXGS). No scratches whatsoever til this day. The phone fell once on concrete from about four feet on the corner/screen, no damage at all thanks to the case - I guess.
My 2 cents : forget about the glass protector, get a nice case with significant lip around the screen and enjoy how smooth the naked screen is.

I've had the phone since the end of December with no screen protector, and only a cheapo clear case that the retailer threw in when I bought it. I am a little rough in my devices as I work outdoors and the device is in and out of my pockets all day. It occasionally gets dropped or knocked out of the car mount. Not a blemish on it.

Tried 3 different screen protector (ringke, ****ke and and other crap), never worked. So I am using it in case or many times in NUDE form because it has some beautiful curves, this phone
Same here, tried 4 different screen protectors then gave up and went nude. Best decision ever. I've had glass screen protectors on all my phone since they first came on the market. First time going without one.
Minor scratches will happen but usability, clearity and feel is SO much better that its worth it.
The only thing that bums me out is that the camera glass scratches easily. Heard its easy to replace but its stupid that its not sapphire glass.
I dont even use a case. Only have a black slickwraps skin on the back because i dont like the silver color. (Only silver and blue were available in my country)
I bought and use the skinomi matte screen protector and it works really well... In fact I got the same protector for the Note 8 as well.
I got a scratch on the first day that I got the phone, I don't know how or where but I did... That's why I always use screen protector, lucky for me I as able to buy a full glue when they were still available if I accidentally break it I don't know what will I do with my life.
I'm kind of different from others here.
Day 1 (August I think), I skipped the glass protector because I read from others on XDA that nothing was fitting right or didnt cover the edges of the screen. I put a plastic-like traditional protector on instead. It's been ok except for lots of grease and smudge buildup. I do have some scratches on the protector, but I wonder if they even would be noticeable if I hadn't had the screen protector on. The reason why is because of the plastic/rubbery texture of the screen protector. I feel like scratches would show up MORE on this protector vs the naked Gorilla Glass.
I'm really considering taking the protector off, but a little hesitant. Lol
I'm currently using it without the screen protector.
I've tried putting a plastic screen protector (wet install), and I've noticed it's soft almost like rubber, and also kind of sticky. After waiting for 3-4 days it remained too soft, so I just peeled it off. I haven't even tried any glass protectors after reading all of the reviews.
I mean, I would love if someone could suggest something that works well, and is $10-15 tops.
There is a whole thread dedicated to it, but the final conclusion is that nothing works except the whitestone dome which is nearly $50.

I think LG designed the curved edges to discourage users put a screen protector on it. LOL. I have been using it with no screen protector, but I have put it in a clear TPU that has lips. I dropped my phones a few times, sometimes face down, and luckily no scratches so far.

I care about resale value, and I definitely see the need for a case (especially with raised lips) -- but not a screen protector that makes the display less responsive. A friend and his wife just got these phones, wouldn't listen to me, PAID for screen protectors at T-Mobile. Within 3 days they ripped them off.

Keys and coins don't scratch screens (there are dozens of Youtube videos that prove this), but a grain of sand will.
I never use screen protectors, and have never had any issues, but somewhere, somehow the v30 picked up a light scratch on the screen (but not from keys or coins).

That's because there could be particles of dust/sand/rocks in your pocket which could scratch the glass. I always baby my phones, yet I've picked up a couple of scratches.
