New Vodaphone locked Moto G - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got a new MotoG which is locked to Vodaphone network for the wife to go with my Retail all Moto G2.
My Moto G2 has about 20 default ringtones to choose from
Her Moto G only has 'Hangouts' for ringtone and 'Hangouts' for text tones, nothing else.
Is this correct/normal. If not, how do I get the default ringtones back?
Both are running 4.4.4, but hers appears to have a different 'skin' where you can swipe left in apps and get to widgets, on mine you can't.
Thanks

It's normal. It's probably a Google Play Edition variant of the Moto G.
You could unlock your bootloader, and install a custom rom which would contain more ring tones and such. Or you could use Zedge app, and download more tone.

It's not the play edition, It has the motorola assist app, moto camera app, and the moto startup screens.
I was just suprised it only had the 1 ringtone, when mine has so many (also not a play edition).

it was £90 in the closeout sales in October (reduced from £130 or £140)
Mine was £125 in Argos two weeks later (reduced from £150)
Spec's are the same except I get 5.0" same res screen, dual sims and a sd slot.

No idea then. Maybe they did it for a reason. Do you know what launcher the phone has on it?

The Vodafone branded firmware may have different ringtones and carrier bloatware and so on

They both have the google now / ask google launcher home screen I think.
Although mine has just the screens you need (2 in my case) and small dots to indicate which you are one. it auto expands to a third when you add more apps.
hers looks the same except the ins't the small dots at the bottom of the screen, but a small line/bar shich moved left right depends in which of the 5 (fixed) home screens you are on.

Then her phone has a different launcher. Which is why she can swipe to the widgets. You can install a custom launcher if you want. I personally use Nova Launcher. You can swipe to the widgets on it. And it has themes you can use.

Check your system version in about phone. It will most likely have "Vodafone" in it. You'd have to flash a retail firmware to get exactly the same experience as the other phone

Use Flyscreen for trackball to activate screen when locked

Alright guys, I usually never post new threads, but I am pretty excited by what this app can do.
This app was recommended by jerrycycle and when I went to use it, I can now wake my phone up by clicking the trackball button. I am still testing this to see what the pros and cons are about it and I will report back.
You can find the app on the market and on their official site here:http://www.myflyscreen.com/
Been using this app since the first day i got my N1(actually since i had my G1 and MT3g),and never notice that, unless it came in the last update, anyway great app, used everyday and love it.Pros to the dev

Nope, been available since day 1 I believe.
I notice Flyscreen got few issue on Nexus One:
- Themes not working
- All themes post at Market seems deleted already.
- Can simply unlock the screen by pressing the "Home" button.
Due to last issue, I need to remove this gorgeous Apps.

Everything else you listed is also true about the app.

Bleh, I've been looking for ANY decent way to get my agenda on the lock screen (I too was spoiled by S2U2 in this regard) and Flyscreen looks okay but you're right, Home button does go to the homescreen.
it's not a HUGE deal but seems they'd fix that.. I don't use my lock screen as a security method, although eventually I should.
My annoyance with Flyscreen is that widgets which should fit into it don't, seems a normal 4x3 Widget size won't fit, 4x2 is okay... Using Pure Calendar Widget to see my agenda. I'd prefer the phone not have TWO of these running, however...
Looked at Executive Assistant and it seemed a bit too much, plus the calendar didn't show locations, which is a big fail for me. I have meetings in random conference rooms and I gotta know where to go.

Is there a way to show spotify just like the default music app on lock screen?

The EMUI music player is in fullscreen when on locksreen. Is there a way for the spotify to play just like that?
i would like this too. I didn't even know the stock player showed up in the lock screen since i've never opened it lol
Change lockscreens, I recommend Floatify but check out some of the options on the Play Store and pick the one you like.

You can set spotify to be the default music player in the EMUI settings and that will probably make it show up on the stock lockscreen. It works for Google Music!
3rd party lock screens tend to cause more trouble than they're worth: Dual lock screens, slower unlock times, battery drain, or incompatible with smart lock security bypass... just to name a few.

Sold my iPhone X and got an Pixel 2 XL

Hi
As the title says, I sold my iPhone X and got the new Pixel 2 XL, and I love it. It is truly amazing. But how ever.. There is some features that I miss. - Sinces android is like an open world compared to Apple I do hope some of you might know how to solve my "problems"
Here they are:
1. Are you able to get rid on the Navigations bar at the bottom AND get the iPhone swipe gestue? Left for back, Right for forward and Up for homescreen, and while on homescreen up will go into the menu (where all my apps are listed)? And also while the keybord still working perfectly in every app when the Navigation bar is hidden? Is that possible? With my iPhone X I could switch between apps while draggin left of right on the bottom at my screen, and also if i swipe up and hold a bit, all my open apps where listed. Is that possible to get on Pixel 2?
2. I've heard alot about burn in. At the moment I am using an Live wallpaper default by Google. (The earth spinning around). Its black - does that have any effect on burn in, or is it only white colour I have to be careful of?
3. On my iPhone I could see my notifications on my apps. (A lille red number), my Pixel 2 doesnt show this, am I able to see that? For Facebook, messenger ect.
This is my first android, so bar with me and my stupidly questions lol
Thanks for your time

For me, it's kind of hard to understand exactly what you are talking about since I don't use my iPhone that often. But I'll play around to see if I can answer #1. But burn in I wouldn't worry about unless you get it. Then return the phone for a free replacement if it happens. I think that issue has been resolved for the most part. That you might want to visit the XL forum for and I'll link that for you below.
#3. I believe they are called "badges" on the iPhone. It is a very nice feature which we don't have on a stock system. I think there are some third party apps in the play store for that but you can search under notify apps or something like that. Maybe even Google can help out on that. I did see some references to it and there is something called Nofityer Unread Count app but I've not tried it.
Here ya go, but do a search on screen burn in before you ask. People get a little touchy around here sometimes if it's been answered dozens of times.

1. If you root your phone, there are ways to remove the navbars... and if you use a custom launcher (such as Nova Launcher), you can set gestures on the home screen. As for systemwide gestures... you would need a gesture app such as https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phoenixstudios.aiogestures&hl=en
Perhaps ask around here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/70jkag/android_launcher_with_iphone_x_like_gestures/
2. Personally never had an issue although I am using Pixel 2.
3. If you use Nova Launcher.. there is the option to show "Notification Badges" with 3 options -- Dynamic Badges (generated badge icons from your notification content), Dots (which shows a dot on the icon in the corner), and Numeric Badges (which shows the unread count of notifications for the app on the icon -- requires TeslaUnread addition)
Quoting a post I found on another forum:
If you display static content on it for an extended period of time like on a store unit or on-screen buttons, then it will burn-in. Not quite as quickly as some have stated, and certainly not as quickly now compared to older OLED panels, but it's still an issue. For instance, the Galaxy S6 edge store units I've seen have suffered from pretty bad burn-in after a year of service, as they're powered on for almost the entire day at maximum brightness without the screen going to sleep. That's an extremely high-wear situation and a phone won't go through that sort of usage pattern (screen on 24/7 at max brightness) in the hands of consumers, maybe even for its lifetime.
Which brings me to this. Consumer units will suffer much less drastically compared to store units. They'll last for years with normal usage, though exceptions such as some Nexus devices with OLED panels exist. In most cases, however, you should be fine. I still have a 4 year old Galaxy S3 with the original display and it hasn't burned-in yet. Very impressive.

Personally I've had a Samsung Galaxy S (the original one), S4, S5, S6, S7 Edge in the past, and none of these devices suffered from screen "burn in". My Pixel 2 is supposed to arrive tomorrow and I'm not gonna worry about the screen burn in issue. I think people are being way too paranoid about this.
We might want to wait for the OP to respond. Could be some trolling going on here.

Best you can do with stock firmware is dots rather than numbers. Try Settings | Apps & Notifications | Notifications | Allow notification dots

You mean the best you can do with stock apps, not firmware. Third party launchers such as Nova can give you numbers without any need to root.
The notification badges on iOS are just a bandaid solution to their compete lack of notifications in the status bar. On Android, no matter which app you have open, you can always see if you have a notification waiting for you without swiping down from the status bar or going to the home screen to scan for badges.
My best advice to the OP is to avoid making your Pixel look and act like an iPhone. You're only holding yourself back from all the awesomeness that Android has to offer.

Not seeing that on the Pixel 2 with a white background. Is it severe enough to be annoying or distracting to you?

Good Lock Issue?

Per this reddit post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold...ing_do_not_install_goodlock_on_the_fold_2_it/
Posted byu/Noble3781

Warning!! Do not install goodlock on the fold 2 It will brake apps moving to the cover screen.
Okay so today i had a major issue after receiving my fold 2, Basically when i enabled an app to go over to the cover screen and then closed my phone on said app, the phone would just lock and then app would not appear on the cover screen and i had to unlock it every time, and no matter what i do or settings you enable there was no way to fix it, I know this feature because i use it on the OG fold with no problems.
After three factory resets i manged to nail it down to the goodlock app causing the problem, At first i thought it was me copying the settings from my old fold, But on my third factory reset, I tried enabling an app to move to cover screen and it worked, I did not copy any of my settings or apps over this time and then i only installed goodlock as i had a feeling and ran the app, and suddenly that app to cover screen was not working again, Uninstalling good lock clearing the cache and restarting do not fix it, The only way to fix it is by doing a factory rest.
So i did that copied over everything for my og fold other than goodlock and it works fine and allows apps to move over to the cover screen when you close the fold, Even running the goodlock app once will brake the move apps to cover screen feature on your fold 2 so do not run it until an update from Samsung.
The issue only exists on the fold 2 and goodlock works fine with moving apps to the cover screen on the fold 1.
vageliz
Is that confirmed?
And is that for the main Good Lock app, or some specific applet from Good Lock?
There is just so much great functionality in Good Lock that would really suck if we cannot use it.
Thank you in advance for any insight.
Noble3781
I am pretty sure it is for multi star then one than let's you edit the aspect ratios, but I am not installing it to find out ??

Anyone that has received their Z Fold2, that is willing to test by installing the Good Lock without Multi Star?
Wow, that sucks. I was hoping to use good lock to change the folder layout since I hate it when I open a folder and it takes up the entire screen. Thanks for the heads up.
I've Good Lock installed on my Fold2, with Smart Switch copied all from Fold to Fold2:
