Does Hulu tell you your platform isn't supported when viewing in browser?

The modified flash apk from that thread recently stopped working FOR ME. So I threw together a zip to get it working again.
What's needed
*rooted device
*kernel with init.d support(edit-or use SManager)
*busybox with cp applet
*flash player app compatible with your device(I'm on 4.0.3ics, but this method should work with 4.3 and possibly others)
*knowledge of how to install zip file in recovery
Why
The flash player app from thread listed above wasn't playing Hulu videos on Dolphin or UC Browser(although it was still working on android browser). I haven't tried other browsers that use native flash. Input is welcome.
What'd you do
I just downloaded the flash player that Dolphin(or UC- same flash) prompts to download when flash won't play- this flash works FOR ME on other sites, but not Hulu.
So I just replaced libflashplayer.so with the modified one, and FOR ME, flash works on Hulu website globally.
BUT, for me, doesn't survive reboot, that's why I've included an init.d script to take care of that. If you find the script won't run correctly(flash working), then run as su on boot with SManager. It's named zzzz(runs last) in /etc/init.d

ok i just tried the hulu app and landscape is off center. i dont know if I have the right version. the web site works just find though
yep. install the regular way works. haven't tried it with hulu but I will try it with my" favorite" site later to see if it fixes the demon voice.
I had to adb push this file in /system/app, then install on top of that.
i've never had the demon voices, but today is the first day I messed with hulu at all.
This is just the newest adobe flash off the market for the evo and hex edited to lie and say it's the windows version when flash apps ask. I'm not sure if there is a better platform to spoof or if it will even matter
I installed the regular way it it work out perfect. for some strange reason I had to uninstall the orginal adobe flash app before this one would install(it wouldnt just intall over and replace)
I couldnt get hulu to work with dolphin browser. It works just fine on the stock browser.

Ok, definitely curious about checking this out. What are the chances of this having negative impact on other things that utilize flash? Or is that pretty unlikely? Thanks in advance. And to uninstall original, just goto settings> manage applications, I'm guessing?

on the miui rom.... installed apk and no hulu love for me
other flash sites worked fine. uninstalled previous version of flash, installed this one sucessfully, rebooted, and no hulu clips, at least for me.
I tried this on IncDoes Sense "Desire HD" (for HTC Incredible) and it does not work. Meaning no flash on any site.
So all I need to do is install this app, and then Hulu will work on my EVO? Is it really that simple?

when i am trying to push the file this is the command I am using:
adb push flash-hex-edited.apk /system/app/
the response i am receiving back is
failed to copy 'flash-hex-edited.apk' to /system/app/flash-hex-edited.apk' : read-only file system.
I am rooted....any sugestions?
steps to any hexed flash to work:
Close out browser
Uninstall original flash using adb for titanium backup
install new flash
install hulu app
OR
in stock browser, type about:debug>settings>UASTRING>desktop then go to hulu site or hulu widget site.
Also: to get it full screen all you need to do is tap to the right of the video then click the fullscreen button quickly within the video. Do not do the hold and click full screen that is part of flash. This only works on the main hulu site. Not the app.

i used abd install not adb push. and make sure you change your user agent string with about:debug as others mentioned
Makes the demon voices in the hulu app disappear in Cynagon mod 6 stable!

I've always just installed hexed flash versions simply out of my downloads folder on the sd card. I don't think it matters how it installs. Just as long as the previous flash is removed through adb or titanium
i just tried changing my user agent string back to android and it actually still works. if you cant get it to work try clearing your browser cache, uninstalling flash, reinstall my hex edited flash and try hulu.com again
UPDATE 11/22/10 IMPROVED METHOD. Flash player mods remain even after reboot now (Thanks to Firon for taking this to the next step for user friendly ease, and getting this to stick after reboot).
FROYO ROMs ONLY!!!!! beta FROYO Roms for sure, we will cross the bridge for the official 2.2 update when we get there, should work though
1. Boot into Recovery (ClockworkMod). Flash the file from the link below and Reboot
2. Open market, navigate to adobe flash player, and uncheck automatic updates for adobe flash player.
3. Get your hulu on! Open hulu app - Watch hulu!
If you are having problems, uninstall Adobe Flash updates in the Market app and try again.
NEW SECONDARY METHOD
For those of you in which the v3 installer does not work/flash properly in the new ext4 clockworkmod recovery.
1. Download root explorer or equivalent and uninstall your curent flash player
2. Extract the install_flash_player.apk from the v3 installer.zip
3. Extract the 5 lib .so files.
4. Put the install apk you extracted into /system/app (yes, replace it)
5. Put the lib files into /system/lib
6. Reboot and install the hulu apk provided below
Tested and working on Bonsai4All Rom 4.0.0

Oh yeah, no problem at all, that would be great actually! I found a ton of files floating around that I sifted through that seems to work well so far. So, they are not really mine to begin with. Good luck on getting this to stick in your rom. I tried to bake it into a flash.apk but no dice for me, as the browser kept saying I had no flash installed.

I think I'll have to write a script to replace it on boot or repackage the adobe flash player apk. Though that might be against their terms and crap.

Yep, had the same idea - writing a startup script to pack it in. But by the time I got it to work, I had no more energy for the whole process of testing .
Uninstall any updates to the flash player, then push this to /system/app and chmod 644 /system/app/*
I don't think you even need to reboot for it to take effect, just restart the browser or something.
This has the modified .so, and it does work. You won't need to do any hackery on each reboot.

Ah awesome Firon! Very much appreciated.
And here's an update.zip to flash it. It should remove any installed updates to Flash, install the modified Flash player, the .sos, and Hulu.

I've tried the original method, the APK, and the update zip. Each time, I get the unsupported message from Hulu. I get it in both the hulu.apk and in Dolphin with Desktop as the agent.

Didn't work for me, sadly... made all flash not work. No error, just acted as if flash was non-existent on my device.
Edit: Tried again, no change. Flash is being uninstalled and nothing is being put in its place. I can reinstall flash from the market, but then it knows I am on an Android device.

Flashing the zip in clockwork worked perfectly for me. I'm on Viper ROM and hulu works in the regular browser.

procedure:
make sure your phone is rooted.
install the app in internal memory. don't move to sd / link2sd etc..
turn off your phone if restart not work.
go to rom manager and fix permissions
restart again or turn off (believe your instinct)
then using stock browser / dolphin / skyfire (didn't work in opera)
go to website that has flash i.e. i tried these two
1- www.zong.com.pk
2- www.kse.com.pk
you will a green arrow where the flash file is placed. click it, it will then load the flash movie and enjoy
Thou its missing some frames but it is actually running.
Note: Please before installing flash.apk got to your browser in settings make sure to run plugins on demand. (by default its set to always in the stock browser)

Bob Finless dropped a new rom for this device
Features in my 1.0 ROM:
1) Gameloft fix. This fixes Gameloft games from crashing to the desktop.
Many of them do not run and crash to the desktop. This is due to a license check based on the device.
Special thanks to Christian Troy for inventing this fix. I modded it for this ROM.
2) Build.prop edit to open up the Google Play store to APPs that normally say "not compatible".
I am spoofing a Samsung device that will show almost any APP as compatible.
Your device will show up in google play NOT as a Minix device! Understand this please.
I also left the original buiild.prop in the ROM called build.orig.
If you want to go back, just use ES or a root file explorer and rename build.prop to build.old
Then rename build.orig to build.prop.
Go into settings, apps, all and go into the Google Play app. Clear the cache and data.
Reboot! You should be back to showing up as a Minis Nexo X5.
3) System is now real EXT4.
4) Full init.d support! If you do not know what that is... ignore it. For geeks that want to use it. It is there!
5) I added Xbox360 keylayout to fix some games and camera spin with xbox 360 controller. Per this post here:

6) I debloated the ROM for CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN.
This includes removing some of the live wallpapers, china apps, etc.
I also removed some basic Google Apps like Chrome etc. Here is why.
As system APPs when they get updated it leaves the old APP in system and puts the update in /data
That leaves JUNK around forever. So why have Google Apps as system APPs when you can install them
and update them all the time? Makes no sense. So I cleaned this stuff out too.
See the README for a list of what I removed.
In my ROM kit is a removed apps folder. Feel free to copy whatever you want back into /system/app if you want them back!
7) Two boot.img and kernel.img setups. One set to support 720P boot and another for 1080P boot.
See instructions below under flashing to use them.This flash kit is setup by default to use 720P
If you want 1080P again see the instructions below.
NOTE: The boot animation on 1080P kernel will not be full screen. This is normal!
I don't want to make 2 large system.img files to support both resoltions.
8) All APPs in /system have been updated including Play Store and Framework.
So on first boot and login to Google Play, Nothing should need to be updated.
9) I added a reboot APP that will allow optional reboot options like reboot to bootloader (flash mode), CWM, etc.
10) Of course this is fully rooted and Superuser. I also updated Busybox to a version I prefer.
This is to support init.d
You can however update busybox to the latest and greatest from Google Play if you wish.
11) I added a better "system ui" sounds package provided by FreakTab user FBK2904 (Frank).

Running xbmx perfect on this, minix just released custom xbmc version for their device few days back and running fine and streaming 1080p.

I managed to have flash with my 4.4.2
Adobe flash is compatible with Firefox
Just have to install Firefox (a open a website that requires flash so you get an error)
Install the latest flash apk (not available though play store)
Test again and now flash should load
This is OK for most cases,but since adobe and Google aren't partners anymore,
If you need the latest version try puffin browser ( not free but offer a daily demo , like 5 hours,no ads)
The flash is processed on their servers,but is very fast too
Also there is flashfox (but I hate this app, only try if both of them fails(not free,lot of ads)

but now it doesn't work well, i have a billion ads opening everytime, and when i try to watch a flash video (streaming) on full screen it crashes and reboot the phone.
I'll try again on a stock ROM and if it doesn't work i'll try with firefox.

the easiest thing to do is try "puffin free" brownser,you will find it a playstore,donwload,install and ready to go
the performance depends on you internet conection,but is very impressive (some times faster than chrome)
