Hi,
I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but this forum is just so huge that I don't really know where to start.
So I bought a Moto G this year, rooted it and got xposed installer on it etc etc..this was a few months ago.
It's also been a long time since I've really been into getting more out of my phone. My question now is, is xposed still the
"big thing" to have on your rooted phone or is there something new/better out there now? I don't need anything super sophisticated,
just something that has a few options like changing your interface etc.. So yeah..Am I still good with Xposed or is there anything new
and if there is, how do I "uninstall" xposed and install this new software/app/..
Thank you!
Kind regards!
Hi,
Usually the best options are custom roms with their extra customization options on some, or stock and xposed. You don't see anything on customizing stock rooted other than xposed.
You can ask for other opinions here, or use this section for any future questions or issues,

Good luck!

Hi,
Thank you for your reply, I found a ROM that I would like to install, but I don't really know how to get started? And if it makes a difference that I already have xposed on my phone?
Just read the rom flashing instructions usually in post one.... Or first couple. Or else you need to ask in the thread I linked. ?

Ok, thank you alot for your help, I know these are some newbie question. Just one last one, I'm looking for the offical Cyogenmod, I've used the search function, but I only seem to find unofficial ROM versions of it?

You can ask in the unofficial thread. But usually if there is no official version, it's cause CM doesn't officially support the device. But a Dev created one for your device anyway. ?

thank you I'm coming from nexus s scene , for this I have asked for custom roms..excuse for the answer ^^
no problem. I can see how you might be lost. I am on my 3rd android device, and have only had 1 ROM at most for each one. Ive learned patience.
Its just that a lot of XDA n00bs have been coming in and expecting this ROM and that ROM,etc.
what you find is here is about all available.
oh, and questions go in Q&A.
tab plus 3g is an excellent device.

Since Im a complete newbie I wanted to ask a few questions before doing anything stupid.
1. I noticed people are already posting new ROMs and kernels. Do I need them? I mean, I like the stock and everything but there are a few things I can't do. Why do YOU root and change ROMs?
2. I found a lot of kernels, and I understood that it can improve my performance and battery life. I would very much like to improve my battery life. The thing is, I don't know how. I do know that people are UVing and OCing their CPU, etc but what can a noob do who is not only a noob but also just bought a phone that the rooting thing is new to it. So no everything is fully developed, optimized and ready to go in a few clicks. Do I still need to wait a couple more weeks to change my kernel? I always read kernel threads and their changelogs but it is like jibarish to me. I can't even decide which one to pick.
3. I would really like to change my icons in the quick settings panel. Am I able to do that? How?
4. I tried setting Hebrew as my default language but that just moves the whole interface left. Because in Hebrew we write right to left. It wasn't like this when I had my GS3. I used a few CM Roms on my s3 and they were fine until the update to 4.3. Then it did the same thing on the S3 but I didn't know it would be like this on the N5. Is it something that can be fixed? Can I email Google or call them about this?
5. Is there anyone who is willing to recommend personally some ROMs, mods, apps or any modifications at all?
Thank you in advance!

1 & 2 - I recommend reading the FAQ first, stickied at the top of this Q&A Section. This should give you a good starting knowledge
3 - would need an AOSP based ROM with this feature (CM / AOKP perhaps?)
4 - sorry, can't help
5 - No. This is against what XDA stands for. Read "No best rom threads" sticky in this forum.
1. All your answers can be found here for why you should root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2510966 or http://lifehacker.com/top-10-reasons-to-root-your-android-phone-1079161983
2. Franco Kernel is very friendly to use and once rooted everything can be done from his paid google play app. check it out
3. Once rooted and with customer rom installed like cyanogenmod or paranoid android the themes you download from the google play store will sometimes change the settings icons too
4. i believe cyanogen mod roms have a good hebrew compatibility
5. Just start off very simply. use the cyanogenmod installer from the playstore and wait for the nexus 5 to become compatible. wait for the device to get into more peoples hands and youll see an influx of great roms and mods
good luck and welcome to the nexus community.

I'll be rooting it for sure, but I guess I'll wait a bit till CM or PA will come out. What did you guys install?

My choice was to stay with Stock ROM. I am new to Nexus devices so I wanted to see the subtleties between stock and AOSP.
That said, De-odexed roms are easier to modifiy so I flashed one of those

How are they easier to modify? I mean, how does it come to use? Can you give me an example?
Also, I see you wrote your ROM, kernel and UVing settings in your signature. How is your battery life?

Go to settings > About > tap build version 10 times to enable developer options.
Go in to developer options and you can change the screen alignment.
I second the FAQ at the top of this forum. Incredibly helpful and informative for anyone new to rooting. That should have everything you need, but I guess if I were to add anything to what the above guys (or girls) said, it would be to root FIRST before playing around with your N5 too much. Not sure if it's really obvious or not yet, but the rooting process will result in wiping your device, so it's generally recommended to get that out of the way.
That being said, once you're rooted, I can't recommend Titanium Backup enough for making sure all your stuff is available after any future ROM changes.
Lastly, welcome to the Nexus family =) Glad to have ya

thank! yea I watched a couple of videos and tutorials about rooting. I'll use Chainfire's tool that unlocks the BL + roots the device.
I'll stick to stock in the meanwhile, I'll just install Franco Kernel.

Its just easier. Every system app has an .odex file too that requires extra modification by a themer / developer. Deodexed systems don't need that

Hey guys and gals so i have a ZTE Z730 t-mobile i successfully rooted the phone and it also installed CWM v6.0.5. Here's my issue other than im a complete newbie, i downloaded rom MGR and it was not compatible with that version of CWM. Im guessing that there arent any custom roms out for this yet so my question is can i use a different recovery so i can flash custom roms if so what and where can i find these like i said im just starting out and want to learn all that is possible about flashing roms and such for android not sure where to start i really dont want to use the same root method because of the fact that it automatically puts the cwm v6.0.5.0 on it and i cant do anything with it or can i ? well i hope someone can reach out and point me in the rite direction it would be greatly appreciated and thank you ahead of time be well billy (a desperate newbie).
Just a side note that rooted z730 i had i tried to uninstall the cwm and failed miserably so that phone lies in the newbie android user graveyard i actually just purchased another today.:fingers-crossed:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Unfortunately if there are no ROMs available for your device no amount of changing recovery will be able to fix that. You can only flash ROMs that were developed for your device, and if none of those actually exist, you're fresh out of luck. But, if you have root you can still customise your stock ROM a bit by using Xposed Framework:
Xposed - General info, versions & changelog
And you'll find an entire section of XDA dedicated to compatible Xposed Framework modules:
Xposed Framework Modules
So I'd suggest you do some looking around there and start customising your device.
Good luck!
Very helpful a huge thank you

Hi
Whenever you ask questions like the above, it is always good practice to mention what device you're using, which variant / carrier and model number it has, and what firmware you're enquiring about.
"Will this work on DN3 ?" is too non-specific to answer, and you may end up inadvertently getting wrong advice from someone about some other device that may lead to you damaging your phone. It's just good pracitce on a forum as diverse as XDA.
Coming back to your original question, why don't you head on to the Xposed sub-forum and clear your doubts? http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed
Best of Luck! And welcome to XDA-Developers.
Ok cool thanks so much! I tried to click the link but took me straight back to my question. I'll have a look around anyway. Thanks heaps.

I am new to this. So, Am I right here at all?
I am new to rooting.
0.-By upgrading this hardware to Android 7.1 I try to benefit from the latest tech. standard.
But I have no idea whatsoever what s feasible at all. -- Oh, please don't reply: "You can do everything." What is everything? Where can I learn it?
1.-Is this software compatible with Rom CM14.1 Nougat Android 7.1 Night Owl Alpha 6, I downloaded from here?
2.-I downloaded ClockworkMod.
3.-I saved instructions like "How to Root Android 4.1.2 with KingoRoot.apk
4.-I saved "How to install ClockworkMod."
Do I need more items to download? Which ones please?
I ask you to please give me the right direction at this very very basic situation.
Thank you very much.

Greetings and welcome to xda. The rom you want to install is this one yes ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note/development/rom-nightowl-preview-t3455847
The rom will be pre rooted so you will only need to install your custom recovery and then flash the rom. Most of the users on xda are really friendly and helpful so do not be frightened of asking any questions in the the threads and the experts will help you (if they don't just threaten them with me haha). I can not find alpha 6 but alpha 7 is nougat the other 2 night owl threads are mm and kk which I can link. Please note though it is only the operating system you are changing so your hardware will be the same but will have new feature
As long as you have installed the correct recovery you can back up your current rom and then try any of the 3 and return to your current rom safely. If you ask in this thread here
