First off I love my GNex... such a great phone and I love Android. However there is one feature missing that is probably keeping it from being used more in business. That feature is per folder notification. What I mean by that is if you have an exchange account configured on your phone and in your Mailbox you have a rule to move email from certain senders to a certain folder you will not get any sort of notification that you have received that email (yes the folder is set for Push Sync). If you check your email and click on your account name at the top you can see if there are emails as they do sync and show how many unread messages are in that folder so the possibility is there.
It seems like such a simple fix for something that would have a large impact. I had 2 co-workers all set to get an android phone and when i told them about this limitation one got an iPhone and the other is going to wait for the Windows 8 phones.
I am aware there are third party apps (not cheap) that supposedly provide this feature (touchdown) but aside from providing that feature I havent heard great things about them (and all seem to negatively affect battery life).
I was really hopeful that it would be addressed in JB but it still remains untouched after all these versions

Have you tired Tasker?
Oh I'm aware there are apps that can help you with this but it should be a core functionality of the email.apk.
More apps doing stuff means worse battery life and more to backup/restore. Its hard to sell to business customers when their argument is "well with the iPhone it just works"
that's one thing that I really miss from my TP2 running winmo is the "persistent notifications" (that's what I call them anyhow). If you dismiss the notification in the curtain on android then its just gone. My old TP2 would show notification bubbles anywhere and everywhere you could think of.
if you had a text it would show on the text icon, if you were looking through your contacts it would show notification bubbles for text/call/email right on the contact info
i guess gmail.apk has that

Many custom launchers (Nova, Apex, etc) give you the option of showing unread counts on the icons of apps such as SMS, Gmail, etc. Those shouldn't disappear when you dismiss notifications, so that would at least solve half your problem!

If I was on an ICS+ rom that would be more helpful, but it's something to look forward to at least. Although none them seem to have that feature for standard email which is where I miss it most.
I'll have to check out holo because I believe it at least does the same sms and calls.

I did this with LauncherPro back when I was on Android 2.3, so I'm guessing it should work with that for you?
I successfully updated my Samsung Galaxy SIII from a 4.1.2 ROM (BoneStock 3.4) to a TW 4.3 ROM (Mother of All ROMs, aka MOAR 7.1). After a few tries (resetting watch, deleting and reinstalling apps, and pairing, unpairing, repairing watch and phone) I was successful at getting the phone and watch to play nice with each other. So I installed WatchIt, gave it permissions on notifications under security. And now WatchIt and the watch is getting notifications. All sorts of notifications... and lots of them.
So I know I can go into my phone, and change preferences and "toasts" (btw, what is the difference between a notification and toast? Are toasts when it tells you to choose a setting, like selecting Switftkey as your keyboard?). Before I mess things up, I thought I would ask the many experts here running WatchIt which apps you disabled notifications (and toasts... what ever they are)?
EDIT: Since there is a really long list of apps to decide whether to ignore, allow notifications, allow toasts, or allow both... is there a faster easier method, eg ignore all, then allowing notifications from just the list of apps or services desired? Sorry if this has been asked and answered already.
It also mentions DayDream as a way to configure... any info and guidance on this would be much appreciated! Also, any apps you think work really well with WatchIt (like... ways to get NBA, NFL, and MLB scores).
Many thanks in advance!!
And I feel dumb replying to my question... but I was able to figure out how to disallow all notifications, then allowing notifications from the apps I wanted. But I must not have it correctly set up, since when I had someone send me a test text message, I only got a WatchIt notification that I received a text message... but not the text message itself on the watch. Did I make a mistake with a setting, either on the phone, the watch, or both?
btw, I found a sports score app on the PlayStore called 365Scores that seems to be very well-reviewed. So hopefully that sends the scores of my favorite teams (selected in the app) to my watch.

You dont need to use watchit for sms. Just use the messaging app from Sony and use watchit only for apps that dont have apps for sw2 and/or you want to receice some notifies.
If you still want to use watchit for sms, have you tried differend setting for it? "show both" (watchit - app setting - sms -> "show both"). Im not sure does it work, I use Sony messaging for sms.

First ff, thanks for the reply. And yes, that makes sense, so I had Messaging, Gmail, and any other extension ignored and the only apps that it now receives notifications for is the stock Email app and the new Sports app. I will use the previous extensions I had successfully used when I was on the 4.1.2 ROM. I verified that text messages now go through and pop up on the watch.
I also tried an email... and that didn't. Will I receive the actual emails via WatchIt? If not, will switching to a different email client like K9 work? On the prior ROM, I had my "stock" (Comcast) emails go to my Gmail account, which then was seen by the watch. So worst case I can go back to that approach.
Will any of the notifications (eg from the new sports app) show up on the watch? Not just a "hey, you just got a notification from 365Sports", but the actual score of the game its reporting?
Again, thanks for the help!!
A later update. Seems I can now get email notifications from the phone to the watch via WatchIt... but they seem to come as a group of emails (three or four at a time), only the email title and sender. As such its not as useful as when I was getting my mail routed through Gmail.
And... it appears that the Gmail extension may not work with 4.3 (at least that is what one review of the app in Play Store said). So going from 4.1.2 to 4.3 in order to use WatchIt does not appear to have been a good move.
I will try switching to K9 as my email client and then try the K9 extension. That combo didn't work for me when I was on 4.1.2 (so I instead routed the email to Gmail).
Anyone running a 4.3 ROM and is using WatchIt to get emails via their "stock" Android email client? Any advice or steps I may be missing to get this to see emails? I hate to think I will need to go back to 4.1.2 after all this...
Gosh, this has been a struggle. The Gmail extension does work with my new 4.3 ROM. So here is the work around I came up with. Using Gmail to get the mail from my Comcast account, then it goes to a K9 account on my phone, then to the K9 extension. It appears to catch and display the email on my phone.
Still can't seem to get scores notifications from 365 Sports app.

Latest update... I seem to have gotten WatchIt to work. I have it delivering Sports 365 notifications to the watch (neat app, btw, as it includes a whistle on the phone notification). And, I am getting email notifications, including the full email but only if it only notifies on a single email. If multiple emails come in... they all get notified at once, and only a list of he emails.
Is there something I can do to force it to notify each email separately?

Hi!
In the last month we developed an app to send all the notifications that your phone receives to the smartwatch2.
It uses NotificationListener Service instead of Accesibility, so it only works on Android 4.3
Personally, Accesibility permissions are very compromising for an app that only send notifications to the watch, and that's why we started developing an app using the new NotificationListener Service.
The app will grab all the text of the notification (not only the tickerText) and will send it to your phone. You can also mute some applications (i.e. PowerToggles post notifications every few seconds) and set a period of time when no notifications will be sent to your phone (ie. During the night)
The link to the app is:
Mod edit: Removed paid app link
We also have a Free version of the app. In this version you won't get all the text in the notification in your phone, you'll only get tickerText and you cannot set periods of "Do not disturb"
Hope you find it useful.
Hi!
I tried many different apps that bring notifications to the sony smartwatch. I'm currently using a HTC ONE with Sense 5.5/Kitkat 4.4.2 and most of the notification-apps have at least one of the following problems:
-) no smilies in whatsapp notifications
-) the sense mail app groups notifications as soon as there is more than one at a time, so if I get one email and 5min later another one, the notification on the phone and on the watch as well just shows me something like:
sender1
subject1
sender2
subject2
but I can not access the content of the emails... the content is only available as long as there just one new email... I don't know if the notification app can do anything about that, but it's something that bothers me
-) some apps don't allow me to exclude certain services like the htc backup service from notifying me on the watch because there is no dedicated app for that
-) some apps don't allow me to scroll through longer notifications
what about your app?

AFAIK, SW2 doesn't have Emoji in its charset, so any notification app won't show that emoji characters. We are working in a workaround transforming some emoji in an alternative which can be shown by the watch

Our app will send to the watch all the text contained in the notifications, instead of sending only the abbreviated text which is what some other apps do.
This was one of the motivation behind our app. We wanted to read the whole email in our watch so we developed SW2 Notifier
I cannot tell you about HTC sense mail app, but I can read full mail text in Gmail, Google's mail app and CloudMagic (which are the clients I use). I think that the situation will be the same in HTC sense clients, but I cannot tell you 100% how that will work.

You can select which application notifies you in the watch and which not. You can leave htc backup service out, and it won't send any notification to your watch. So that's a yes, you can filter out any app you want.

If I understood you well, yes you can scroll it long way down in the text of the notification. I.e, If you receive, let's say 10, messages in Hangouts, you can read them all.

I just tried out your app and here's my feedback:
-) it would be great to have an option to define if the notifier should by default enable notifications for a new app-notification or not (as it is now you have to disable each app you don't want to get notifications from and you have to wait until you receive a notification from that app, so for a while you will have to open the settings over and over again to remove an app from the whitelist)
-) unfortunately I have the same problem as with all the other notification apps when I receive two or more notifications about new emails, attached you see two screenshots that show what I mean... as you can see the watch just shows me that I got two emails from "Kamil" and both have the subject "Test2" (if you scroll down on the watch you see just another line telling me that Kamil sent an email with the subject "Test2"), but I can not see the content of the emails (the content is only visible when I have just one email-notification)... this happens with the HTC-mail-client and with the default android-client as well... maybe the notifications-grouping is a sense feature?

Thanks for trying the app and thanks for the feedback!!
We take note about that, we'll add that option to settings, in order to deactivate notifications by default.
About the other comment, did you try Free or Paid version?, In Free version we don't send all text of the notification to the watch only what Android calls "ticker text" which is the text you can read in the notification bar when you receive a notification.
In the PRO version, we send all the text which is contained in the notification (if you swipe down in the notification it will expand and will show extra text, and all that text is what we send to the watch).
I use Google's default mail client (have a nexus) and even though in the notification bar i cannot read whole text, in the watch I can read all the email.
I tried the paid version, it looks like as soon as there is more than one email notification the notification doesn't contain the email text anymore but just the sender and subject of each email

I bought the PRO app yesterday, and from a quick test I am very satisfied with it. My biggest problem with others was that they couldn't show extended notifications of Hangouts, and this one does it nicely.
So, great job!

Congrats on the development and thanks for contributing to the SW2 community.
I am experimenting with the Pro version. Interesting the way you need to turn off notifications only after your phone/watch have a notification from that app or service (as opposed to WatchIt where you can do so when you first install WatchIt). I am running 4.3 on my phone, so I reckon I am the right target market.
Does seem to show more content on some notifications, but like others have also reported, if your phone gets a number of emails and notifications at the same time, SW2 Notifier only lists them out and provides the same amount of content in the list as WatchIt. Same is true with Google+.
Its a small $ investment and hopefully encourages people to develop for the platform, and its a nice looking extension. Don't know if it is enough of a difference to get someone who already has WatchIt to switch to SW2 Notifier. Since WatchIt is free I believe, and also works well with 4.3 phones (benefiting from same notification access), I think the SW2 Developers need to do something more to replace WatchIt.
btw, I am still trying to find the perfect notification extension. I use a few (WatchIt, Watchify, SW2 Notifier) to receive email, Gmail, and Google+, and the stock extensions to get Twitter, Facebook, Messaging, Slideshow, RSS, Missed Call, Music Player, Calendar Reminder. Seems the stock extensions that are dedicated to a type of notification still seem to work a bit better than the WatchIts and other broder notification extensions. Fortunately the SW2does not limit the number of extensions (apps) like Pebble does.
A suggestion would be good to select what notifications you want upfront as opposed to case by case as they come in.
Trying the free version. It's splendid so far. One "issue" I have is that I use Hangout and when a person sends me one message, its fine but if they send another afterwards and I didn't check the first, it comes up as 2 messages.
It would be nice if either my phone or watch could read the messages seperately but it doesn't which is a bummer. Other than that, its great!
ok, I've bought pro version, but it is as good as annoying. After 15 minutes of working I can have over 30 messages on my watch. Offcourse I've switched off non neccesary notifications, but for example for deezer I've got triple multipled notifications. Also really annoying are 'ghost notifications'. On my phone i;ve got 0 notifications, but this app shows me some empty notifications without any message. How can I rid of that?
Thanks all for using the app. It started as a personal need for us but it turns out as a useful app for everyone. We are carefuly reading the comments in order to improve the app in future versions.
There are some interesting things we'd like to comment.

In Free version, the text sent to the watch is shorter than the paid version, sorry. In the paid version you should read the whole hangouts notification including messages.

Thanks for the feedback, we've been noticing something similar. Android notification system is a little bit messy. Sometimes, the notification service notifies the app saying, "hey there is a new notification posted", but it is not. Filtering these notifications out without affecting some others is not so easy as it should be. We are working on that in order to provide a better experience.
Hi there, I bought youre PRO version, nice app, IMO only missing one feature, a feature that lets you set a delay between notifications of the same app, eg when a app fires multiple alerts, it would be nice to get only one buzz on your wrist
I agree to some previous post, have an option to have the new notification services disabled by default
So I've been using this app now for about five days. I've pretty much got most of the notification apps for the SW2 all except Watchit were unreliable. I'm glad to report that this app hasn't missed a beat. I've replaced Watchit with this one. I'm really looking forward to the updates! Finally a decent competitor to Watchit!

i have 4.4.2 and it works ok. Sometimes maybe a little bit too many notifications
Does this app currently support or plan to support in the future, features similar to those shown on Android Wear smartwatches. For example being able to select archive on gmail notifications.
Hi everybody,
I'm new so I'm sorry if I violated a rule, or I missed the section, or else.
But I bought recently this beautiful smartwatch and paired with my P9 lite (Nougat) and I just saw the VERY BIG problem of this watch: WhatsApp's notifications.
So I started to download all the solutions, like the Chat Hub, W History etc etc ... all s**t both software and UI.
Downloaded Notification for Gear s123 (both versions available) but app crashed frequently.
I downloaded Double Check that you can receive notification via this app and WhatsApp too, so double notifications for one message and the watch receive double notifications too and often the watch did not vibrated.
With all this "test" I understand the mechanism of Gear s2's notifications system so I started to develop an app for that, but immediately I applied the first rule of programming:
If something has already been done, do not do it again.
I looked for a message merger:
Then I downloaded an app called Disa from the play store and installed the WhatsApp plugin and now all is ok !!!!!
PRO
- Read all messages
- Reply to all messages
- On phone, you can merge all the notification from the same sender.
CONS
- When you open a message on watch you can see this struct:
Sender
Messages
---------------
messages
But only when you open the notification!
-Sender profile image no more on the background of the watch when receiving a notification.
-Has a different UI for use whatsapp.
However, it's a temporary solution, basically it's just an update to whatsapp or Gear or ... Then I don't know if an update will breaks the app, but at the moment works very very well.
Now I'm working on the development of an app I'm going to do for free but my work takes me a long time.
I hope to have helped.
Best regards!
Thank you so much for the tip! Appreciate your work and may you develop an awesome app to rectify a problem that Samsung doesn't want to
Thank you, I appreciate your support.
However it's not all the fault of Samsung. In fact, the Gear Notification Manager (seems) works that if the app on the phone has the permission to vibrate, the smartwatch vibrates, if the notification on the smartphone contains some information (in this case the messages) then the smartwatch shows that information. WhatsApp restricts Gear functionality through the notification system it has adopted. In other words, Disa sends notifications to the smartphone in a different way, for example, Disa doesn't show the sender's profile photo.
Little update:
Reply via Speech-to-text isn't supported on Gear.
I recently bought a Gear S3 and since then looking for a nice decent solution to the WhatsApp problem.
W-History is doing as promised, but a really ugly GUI.
Notifications for S123 doesn't work on my S3
Chat Hub I didn't check.
I ended up using Notifications Wear Style, which works well for me.
The free version can show 20 messages and then tells you to buy the premium version.
I was about to buy the premium version till I saw your post.
It made me really curious if you can come up with a free app and nice GUI would be a big plus.
Anyway, keep up the good work and hope to see your app soon.
Note that there are a lot of message merger in play store! I just download the first.
However, my work take me long time so I don't know when I can develop the app.
I can only view last received message from notifications thats it. Cant find a place for all messages.
Download from Play Store, an app called Disa. Then download (from app) the plugin for WhatsApp. After that you will able to read (and reply) all WhatsApp messagges.

Downloaded Disa yesterday, but when started it said that the original WhatsApp app needed to be deinstalled.
Is that correct ?
What are the consequences when the original client is deinstalled ?
Yes. I use this app from 9 days and no problem. The plugin support the end to end encryption.
If you use Disa you can't do call and videocall from WhatsApp.
For what remains you can do all what you do with WhatsApp.
On p9 lite works very well.

No problem man, we are all in the same boat.

in every case thank you so much for the Trick
Well, I was thoroughly investigating the problem of notifications, not only with WhatsApp, but with apps like Telegram, Hagouts, Allo and so on. (Of all, only Facebook Messenger Lite had no problems and showed the history normally).
Well, from Android Nougat, the notifications have changed and have come to present more information, but the way Gear handles them yet! The Gear app sends the notifications by the title (or the name of the contact) AND the last information received.
Tizen receives the title and compares it with existing notification titles. If it matches, it will add the last information received in the saved messages. If the title of the notification differs from the one stored, it will understand that it is a new notification and then create a new page.
WhatsApp and Telegram notifications on Android nougat are like this:
For a message:
Name
For two messages:
Name (2 messages)
For three messages:
Name (3 messages)
And more ...
Therefore, the notification title changes each message, making what Tizen thinks is a new notification and creating a new page. The old message is deleted the title has changed and soon the system thinks it has been read.
Anyone who owned a device with the MM or lower could confirm my thesis?

Maybe... but I don't believe. The scope of Disa is to merge the messages not to do calls.
UPDATE: Yesterday I received an update of DIsa and WhatsApp's plugin. Still work!

Hi @erfack, I don't know if you are using any other method to read Whatsapp messages on Gear, but I have a Gear Sport and I still don't like any of the solutions when I compare to Android Wear.
I started to investigate it too, and this is what I found: If I connect an Android Wear device to my phone, a "Read More" option appears on the Gear Sport (tested in S2 and S3 too).
Full history:
I have a Gear Sport and, as many others, I'm trying to understand why the Read More options is not appearing in some third-party apps, like Whatsapp.
What I found is that if I have only my Gear Sport connected to my Galaxy S8+, the Read More options does not appear and I can only read the last message received, not the full conversation.
But if I connect another watch to my phone (I also have a Huawei Watch, which runs Android Wear 2) then the Read More option appears on the Gear Watch! Then I can read all messages received.
I have to believe that Samsung can correct this, since it appears to be a notification bug, solved somehow by the Android Wear connection.
For now, I'm just unable to switch from Android Wear to Tizen because of this ridiculous bug that is here since the Gear S2, as far as I read here on the foruns.
Anyway, thanks for your info on Disa!
Hi @Lucas_Skyline, I found there is an incompatibility by Tizen in the android notification system. This is caused by the new Android notification system that have more function and more types respect the oldest versions. Furthermore there's some difficulties about to write code 'cause, in Tizen, apps are written in C (now C++ and .NET too) while android is full Java. This is for Tizen. For WhatsApp, Mr. Zucks decided to not release API or source code of WhatsApp then is more hardest to circunmavigate this (ugly...very ugly!) bug.

Understood!
I was wondering why it works when I have a Android Wear device connected. I mean, it works on the Gear Sport, I connect my Huawei Watch and the "Read More" option appears. Maybe we could find a way to emulate an android wear device?
Is very very hard to simulate a OS (I think is possible, but the battery will drains after a couple of hour), but a custom solution is easy. Just change the notifications popup like Disa does. However I have the impression that is a commercial move by Android because Tizen is the 2nd wolrd's most popular OS for smartwatches ( Watch OS at 57%, Tizen at 19% and Android Wear at 18%).
not wark now whatsapp plugin ..
Well, I haven't seen anything about this here, (my search-fu might not be polling the right keywords) but this is bad news ya'll. The more that I research into this, the more that I see that Samsung chose to remove this feature. It is available on other Oreo devices (not Samsung's though, s8 s8+ users are affected after oreo update as well.) I tried Textra, and I can change the tone for the conversation, but that's hacky, not totally effective for group chats, and it is not sending or receiving all of my messages. I hate the single ringtone.
Anyone else frustrated by this?

(edit) general Samsung discussion, at least 3 threads as of posting were about the text tones. https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/General-Discussion/bd-p/GeneralDiscussion
I'm equally annoyed by this. As many are from what I can find on other sites. Beyond me as to why Samsung decided to remove features. ? hoping for a fix soon on the native messaging app. I'll pass on 3rd party.

Are you referring to the stock SMS app? I use Chomp SMS and can change the notification sound.

Go to settings > notifications > messages and then it is by category one sound for general alerts and one for new messages you can change the sound whether it vibrates or the importance

The OP is talking about assigning a specific tone to each individual contact, so you know who's texting you without looking.
I too am not thrilled with this because I want to use the Samsung messaging application for its integration on the phone and on my s3 watch go figure text notifications don't work as smoothly on the watch when your not using the Samsung messaging application. Seems specifically due to oreo.
I beta tested the S8+ Oreo and requested this feature. They said that not all features may be included in the Beta but may show up in the final release. I was skeptical and it appears they did do away with it. It was one of my favorite features, I hope they bring it back.

I've checked out a bunch of apps, and I can custom assign tones to conversations (its not the contact that gets the tone) but that gets confusing on multicontact conversations. I setup a group sms chat with the family, but now its 1 tone for the conversation, rather than each person with their own tone. Very Frustrating. Hoping that the feature comes back.
The new android messages now allows custom conversation notifications, but it's not like the setting in contacts. But it is better than nothing and I'll keep hoping Samsung includes it in a later update.

Is this in the stock message application? How did you set it per coversation?
Just do it twice and it will set

Do what twice? There's no place in the Samsung app, or in Samsung contacts, to set a message tone.
No, only can set custom conversation tones in apps like Textra and Chomp. The stock app only uses the default text sound (or the one that is set globally)

Not sure what you mean, but I have done lots of things twice, and still no custom sms/mms tones per contact.
IT seems that Samsung might be paying attention:
