[Q] Exclamation mark inside a triangle in notification bar - General Questions and Answers

I'm seeing an unknown icon of an exclamation mark inside a triangle in the notification bar. I recently bought this phone and am kind of new to Android. Please tell me what this icon is and how I can get rid of it. Thanks in advance.

It doesn't say when you drop down the notification menu (swipe down from the top)?
I think that one means problem with sign-in or sync. I don't know what version of Android you're on, but usually you get rid of it by dropping the notification menu down and swiping the notification away. However, it's likely to reappear if whatever app is trying to sign-in or sync keeps failing to do so.

Only Avast, no root firewall and no sim in slot 2 notifications are shown in the notification menu. Which sync are you talking about and where can i change that setting?
BTW it's a Lenovo A536 running Android 4.4.2

It's most likely the no sim in slot 2. Could be the no root firewall. Even avast could produce it. Try each one until it's gone.

There are no alerts or warnings from No Root Firewall or Avast. Besides I think the no sim 2 notification is shown as an exclamation mark in a square in the top right corner, not the triangle.

Well its one of them. The A is Avast? (no idea as I dont use s called antivirus so never seen it) The key is no root. I am not sure is the lack of a sim would cause that as there are no dual sim devices sold here. What ever it is should show in the notification.

Symbol in top left corner

This could be a dumb post, but a couple days ago this circular symbol appeared in the top left-hand corner, in the notifications bar. It looks like an indicator that GPS is running, but why did it appear and not go away for 2 days now? Also, disabling GPS and Google location doesn't make it go away. WTH? Lol
I am on the newest update, 77.8.14.

That's not GPS...
GPS looks like a target. The icon you are questioning about looks like a wrench...
You don't see anything when you pull down the notification bar...? Did you install any new apps recently? That is odd for sure.

Ah ok, there is no indication of it when i pull down the notification bar, and when i clear all notifications, the symbol does not go away.
I was in an area the other day that had lousy service, and i've noticed this device does not seem to handle that situation well, in terms of reconnecting when there is service, etc. Not sure if it is related to that or not.
Definitely odd, this is my first time seeing that symbol. I'm trying to think of any new apps i might have installed... i did update about 16 apps the other day, it must be one of those...

I actually figured out what it was! You got me thinking about apps, and 1 of the 16 i updated the other day was Notification Toggle. For some reason this time it put that symbol up there by default after the update. I always had it turned off so i had never seen it before
Its the sprInt zone update notification
It's definitely the Notification Toggle app.. when i freeze that app the symbol goes away. And i don't even have Sprint Zone installed
Yup, That is notification toggle. One of the more recent updates changed the notification bar behavior options, and reset the icon. Under settings for the app you can change the icon style, there is a transparent option if you don't want it to show at all, otherwise there's various battery icon styles that will tell you exact battery %.

BBM on our N5s, how many notification icons do have when a new message comes in?

So my BBM has always had the persistent notification icon that BBM says you should have in order to get messages quickly and then when I get a new BBM message I got a second notification icon that has the red exclamation point.
I just read that someone said on the S4 that there is only one notification icon and when a message comes in that one icon changes to the one with the red exclamation point when a new message comes in.
So, which is the correct way?
I have also been having a problem lately with BBM, messages are not coming through to me unless I open the app, once I open it up I get messages that were sent much earlier in the day. Anyone else having this issue and know of the cause and any fix?
Thanks
Wait, people still use BBM?
Having one icon pop up, you can do that by disabling the BBM Connected notification.
Delayed messages, I don't know about. Sorry ;(
Maybe the app is getting killed?

I have one persistent icon, and when I get a message, the persistent icon has a red star on it. So in total, never more then one icon

See this is the strange issue, my persistent icon never changes but I get a second icon with a red exclamation mark or red start (not sure) when a new message comes in.
So this is strange that some people get two icons and some get one with the persistent icon setting turned on.
bbm don't work on latest kikat, only get notifications if app is open or just been closed.. ever since 4.4.1

Thanks, this is what is happening with me I believe. If I don't open BBM in the morning my wife will send me a message but it never comes through. She then texts me and I open up BBM and then they come through, but once I open, it does seem to work fine for the remainder of the day.
I will have to monitor it to see but it looks like I am going to have to stop using it because of this. And I find it so strange that I get two icons when others only get the one.
Thanks

Unwanted notification icon of mobile data connection on HTC E8

Hi everyone!
I just bought a new HTC E8 Dual Sim from Hong Kong, which arrived already rooted and almost clean from manufacturer apps. However, I am going crazy over a notification icon that is completely useless.
Every time my phone connects to mobile data, a strange notification would appear, showing two arrows, one black and one white, pointing one up and one down, on the top left corner. This notification is pointless, as I can see the device is connected by looking at the right side of the status bar, right next to the signal bars where a nice H+ is displayed. This notification only shows CONNECTED if looked while the screen is locked.
Unfortunately I can't post screenshot as this is my first thread, if someone knows how I can attach screenshots, please let me know.
Apparently this notification is generated by the app PHONE, whose notifications cannot be disabled (the checkbox is greyed out into the normal settings pane) and cannot be frozen using Link2SD (otherwise both SIMS stop working the device ceases to work as a phone).
If I force stop the app the icon would disappear straight away, but would reappear again at the following mobile data connection, just as nothing happened.
I've tried to download XPOSED ADDITIONS to see if I could get some more tools to work on it, but it seems not to work on this device; if I tap on it, an error message prompts saying "The XposedAdditions System Service is currently not enabled" and some other stuff I couldn't get rid of.
Can someone help me remove that notification?
Thanks guys!
Mike

notification symbols show at top of my screen but when pull down do not show

Notification symbols show at the top of my screen but when I pull down they do not show up. Screenshots do not show this. When I pull down the notification panel it shows those things like Wi-Fi and GPS but nothing else. On my lock screen I see the notifications but I cannot touch them to go in to those running apps. Can someone please tell me how to get those notifications. One is Google photos another is an email also the download Arrow is there but I do not know what is downloading and then there are three dots indicating that there are others. And also when I do pull down the symbols are all in dark background not white as it was a few days ago. I do not know what I did
Please help.
Have you tried restarting your phone?

Yes I did restart the phone and I have just done that again with the same result. The pull-down says no notifications yet there are notification symbols at the top

Take a look at screenshots below.
Have you switched this Staus bar setting off ?
Phone /Settings /Display /Status bar
Problem solved. I had an app installed called Material Status, Bar. I uninstalled it and everything came back to normal and the notification panel works now.

Question LenovoServices is running

The past few updates and now this "Lenovo Services" app is now constantly running. I've tried to force stop it; nope. I can't "mute" the notification.
Any of you even know what this app is? When did it get installed and for what purpose is it there?
Thanks.

I've been regularly updating (Xiaoxin Pad Pro / P11 Pro) but never encountered "Lenovo Services". I do have "Device Service" (package name com.lenovo.lsf.device) which wants to connect to AliCloud in Germany a couple of times per day. I don't allow it on my software firewall (currently NoRoot Firewall), so no notifications from there.

I just double-checked and it is indeed there. I will post a screenshot if that helps you. Furthermore, I'm unable to uninstall it or remove the notification that it is running.
I checked the app, and it has no permissions granted other than "draw over other apps" but nothing for storage or location or contacts.
I'm on a US device if that makes a difference. Someone here must have the same thing I would assume?
I do have the same service running on mine and unable to hide it from notifications.
Time to go play in the Registry...
At least there is a way to "hide it" see here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo...ervices-is-Running/m-p/5083807?page=2#5447336
swipe down to see the "LenovoServices is running" notification and tap on it, it goes to the app settings page
Here you have 2 options
tap on Force Stop, it stops the notification but also the service itself (which is probably not a big problem, I've received an update, today, with this service killed). No notification in the status bar, no notification in the pull-down
Or
tap Notifications, DownloadService
there you see two main options, Alerting and Silent, it's on Alerting
switch to Silent and tap Minimise, notification gone from status bar but it's still in the pull-down, service still running

Good info. Thanks. Although still no explanation as to what it's doing or, how it got on there in the first place.
