I think this should be helpful. Please remember to confirm your model number and ensure it matches the on listed in this thread
You may be able to acchieve root simply by downloading and installing the towelroot app though. I'd try that first.
Also remember that your s5 has a locked bootloader so you cannot flash a custom recovery. Before doing anything I suggest reading about "safestrap" and how it works
Good luck

Hey folks,
I was facing some issues on my at&t sgh-i317 note 2, which i got unlocked and am using in india.
In order to resolve 3g/4g network access issue, and also an Issue where root checker said that root was not properly installed, and superSU said no binary installed, this were the issues i intended to resolve.
I decided to unroot the phone by flashing stock rom I317UCAMA4_I317ATTAMA4_ATT, but the flashing process on odin failed at "sboot.bin". Need solution.
Note: attached screenshot of my about phone before I started, flashing.
My baseband version was i317ucucne5, and I was installing I317UCAMA4_I317ATTAMA4_ATT rom, does that seem to be a issue? let me, know how can i resolve this. please help.
I was following this instructions: http://galaxynote2root.com/galaxy-note-2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-2-easiest-method/

Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist.
Sorry to hear about your trouble but we cannot provide technical support nor can other members reply to your posts here on XDA Assist but fortunately there is an XDA area dedicated to the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2-att which would be a good starting place. I suggest you post your question with all relevant details in the friendly Q&A forum there at http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2-att/help where the experts familiar with your device will be best able to guide you.
Good luck!
Thank you for the update. I will do as per you suggestion. and ya if you could help me out with this personally that would be great.

Greetings and welcome to assist. Unfortunately it looks like root isn't available for your device at the moment but you could try the methods in this thread to see if they work

Hi all! So I'm pretty familiar with rooting my Galaxy S4 but have recently purchased and upgraded to a Galaxy S7. It's an SM-G930U model and currently set up with my MetroPCS account. I've had some issues finding ROMS that I can use with Odin to root but haven't had much luck. I was able to find stock roms in case something goes awry but no luck with customs. Can someone help me out with a link? Thanks!

There are no custom roms since the bootloader is locked so the rooting process is different from what you are used to, so follow this guide:

Due to US models unlocking the bootloader is not possible. Rooting methods is some what limited.
You can check out S8+ rom section for possible rooting methods. Start with checking threads from jrkruse.
