If your N5 is rooted and and you can install a custom rom. CatalystROM does have that option for you to disable that gesture from home. Give it a go.
Theres also an app called "Google Now Swipe Disabler" which can bind to it and do nothing. The gesture still remains though, very annoying in games!

I can't switch notification sounds.
Even though I changed it in the settings.
The sound stays the same. Even after reboot

There's notification sound settings in both system settings and in the individual app settings. Also, some apps have the option to override system settings.

Mine works. Whenever I get a message, email, facebook notification, etc...
Did you enable it? Settings > Display > Pulse Notification Light
The only thing I miss from my S3 is that the Nexus 5 will not light up when plugged into the charger. Red for charging, green for done.
Use Ledblinker app and you can add those functions in as well as choose colours for any app notification

Guys is it possible to set an individual Notification sound to a specific contact? I know you can do this for ring tone but can't seem to find an option for Hangouts.
No you can't.
Yes you can if I understand him correctly.

You can't do it natively, but it can be done with a third party app like light flow.

It's not application but feature, from call setting select incoming call notification.

If I get you correctly
Go to setting > device tab > call > enable incoming call notification. With this, it will display a pop up window when someone call u instead of full screen

What I understand from op request is he want a popup while on some game (screen on) at bottom in small window rather than full screen.
What I said is exactly doing same.
Here quoting op again. Didn't getting you.
