[Q] Free Xperia Cyanogenmod Changelog - Sony Xperia L

Hello all
I have decided I will install free xperia cyanogen rom on my device as soon as I unlock my bootloader since Cyanogenmod 12 is still being debugged by varun and I will install it when all problems are fixed.
I would like to know where can I get information on the latest builds as I would love to know what bugs these new versions have.
The only thing I know is that fxp 325 was a good build but I would like feedback on the latest versions since from what I heard, there is no guarantee that it is/will be stable. I have checked the q/a here on the forums but I can't really gather much information from there. So what do you guys think? Best bug free (or almost bug free) builds?

[Q] CyanogenMod 7.1 RC1 vs CyanogenMod 7.1 Nightly Builds

Hye, can I ask something?
What's the difference between
CyanogenMod 7.1 RC1 => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1240177
and
CyanogenMod 7.1 Nightly Builds => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1268304
Try to search for it, but still cannot find the difference.
Thanks.
Ummm, the differences come...get ready....nightly.
Sorry, not trying to be an ass, but couldnt resist. Nightlies are updated more or less nightly with new tweaks and features. RC is the last known stable, non-experimental build. If you follow the nightly thread, I'm sure someone will be posting links to the changelog.

It's okay. Still newbie here.
Yes, the word nightly. I know that, but after try searching the difference, still know nothing.
So, what do you mean is, nightly builds is official rom from cyanogenmod?
They are both official, but nightlies contain changes done to improve the roms, ofcourse doesn't always mean that it improves. Those are what I like to think of as "experimental". RC stands for release candidate. Rc's have been known to be the latest stable rom that is ready for public testing. Still, rc's are just released to receive approval, once everyone likes it, it may become official, or Stable release. You'll know when they're unofficial, they will state so in the threads name.
RC[Release Candidate] is the Stable Release While Nightly Builds are often modified with new tweaks and always improved, which means nightly are quick updated
CyanogenMod RC and Nightly Builds explained
In the world of CyanogenMod...
7.1 = indicates the version number of the mod
RC = Release Candidate, mostly bug-free, also known as "stable", change log usually available
Nightly Builds are
Beta
No change-log. Cyanogen fans accept that they would rather a Modder/Developer spend time working on a new version, than taking precious time to write change logs documenting every thing they did/tweaked.
Not released at a certain time (night).
Not released EVERY night, could be weekly.
A new "nightly" version is released, when the developer/modder is ready to upload it.
Any inquiries of when a new RC or nightly will be available will receive the following tin-can reply, "it'll be ready when its ready."
"Nightly" CyanogenMod fans/users are like Pit Bulls who haven't been fed in 3 days. They look forward to a new version every "night", even if its bugged and bad. If the a new "nightly" released version is very buggy, the CyanogenMod fan/user will simply restore/revert to an earlier CyanogenMod version that worked, whether its nightly or RC version, simply using the "restore" of a backup function. All CyanogenMod fans are advised to backup, before doing any changes. Those that don't, usually regret it, and won't do it again.
Those Developers/Modders working tirelessly to improve upon the CyanogenMod are doing it for the most part on their own time late at night. Bugs expected, because it wasn't thoroughly tested because so many CyanogenMod fans are eager and hungry for the latest version with cool features and tweaks and hope to not wait a month+ for an official-mostly'debugged-version(RC).
Each Android Mobile requires dedicated Modders/Developers, because every mobile has different ram/rom/processor/buttons/irks/camera and requires a special build. Therefore if you have an outdated mobile (ie. G1) that no dedicated Modders/Developers are using, you may never see an CyanogenMod update again.
In the world of updating a Android OS, if you fix/add one feature, it may/will break/not-work another feature. Usually the first thing to break/not-work the camera &/or the video camera &/or the front camera. If you're planning to become a Developer/Modder, expect a lot of frustration.

In answer to the qusetion; nothing.
The RC1 in the link is an official port for Cyanogen7 that is so much of a recent development that it is not yet included in the CM Nightly releases that have already been explained. I'm guessing that it will still be a port until after this round of updates when Nexx's excellent "RC1" will finally be fully integrated into the Cm device family.
As very little can happen to a nightly build sometimes, Nexx just can't be arsed to update nightly, he just does it when there's a biggy in the changelog.
Keep up the good work Nexx. v105 is Solid.

hi
daily updates are nightly, every month the RC release that contains more 'updates nightly. After when a rom does not have bugs and 'head is released stable
Nightlies are like experimental or starting releases.the people interested try it,and the developers work hard to make it stable and usable for day to day use.i am a noob
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
Ordinary Releases or sometimes in roms RC's are largely redone versions of the older versions with usually more features, bug fixes, and sometimes a complete rebuild/overhaul of the ROM. They are usually released from every few weeks to every few months. Nightlies are released daily or near daily with small bugfixes and sometimes new features. Sometimes could be a redo of an unstable build from the day before due to problems like bootloops and others which are due to a bug or a kernel problem as I used to deal with.

Sorry to dig this thread up, but I didn't want to start a new thread about nightlies when I found this one!
I am currently running CM 10.1.3 on my Xperia Tablet Z (SGP311) and was tempted to install the latest 'nightly' version... CM 10.2.
What I was wondering was... is there any chance my device could need flashing back to a stable build from installing nightly builds? It took a lot of perseverance to get CM 10.1.3 running on my tablet and since Cyanogenmod can now be updated as if it was the standard android (I mean you can just check for updates and install without any hassle with flashing) I want to avoid having to flash my device again.

Request for Collaborators: Merging the CM11 ROMs into one "official" one

Hi,
I see at least 3 different CM11 roms based on kitkat:
* http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524961 [ROM] CyanogenMod 11.0 | Android 4.4.2 KitKat [KANG] [May-6]+[NIGHTLIES]
* http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2530073 [ROM][STABLE][Android 4.4.4] CyanogenMod 11 with 3.0.16 kernel [July 25, 2014]
* http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692278 [UnORom][3.4Kernel] CM-11 Android 4.4.4 [Stable v2.0][29 July][Final]
All more or less unmaintained as far as I can see - please correct me if I'm wrong!
What are the remaining difficulties to get a official CM11 ROM out of these? Then a lot more infrastructure from CM could be used - e.g. development tools, build machines & downloads. If the problem is to get a build machine on which 3-5 persons could would together over the Internet - I'll spend a vserver on my own dedicated server if there is a serious effort to bring up an official CM11 ROM.
If there are rather tiny things I could try(!) to help - I have almost no experience with android system development, but with Linux and development (C, Java, embedded devices,...) in general.
Two links for the rough procedure:
* http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_porting_intro - the hard part, but luckily almost done (isn't it?)
* http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_Submitting_A_Port - the final

+1 for uptodate pure CM11 rom for sensation. I hope someone will join to you.
I think Flemmard's variant of CM is ready to be official!
official CM11 to Sensation!!!! We need it
+1
+1 It would be great thing for senny to so see official CM11 because many developers left us.
I don't think it's possible to make an official CM11 for our phone. IIRC, to be official it can't use legacy drivers and for the CM11 to work on our phone, I think we are using drivers from ICS because that's until where our drivers are updated, I'm not sure.
And "official" one in other hand would be amazing, I tried PA and etc but I always return to CM.

Flemmards CM use KK drivers.
+1 for me too.
It's good to take a question - how many developers are developing at this moment?
Albinoman moved to Galaxy S5
SultanXDA has forced to developing Nexus 5 device
Shantur give up his work and we can flash new builds only if Sajito will up new version (contains upstream changes)
Ivanich has decided to close his storage, so we cannot download anything...
...Ideas?

That's not true... Team Venom also left us
For now we have official slimkat builds and maybe bilal liberty still develops for senny.
That's sad. We had many great developers and suddenly many of them left us. It will be great to see official CM builds.
Thats very sad, why they all leaving, i dont understand that. How's Ivanich latest 08/27 rom? Better than Sultan 07/25?

The good thing is that all the great developers left us with good ROMs.
I think it is difficult to replace the devs. I can't fix the bugs they didn't fix until now, but I would like to try to keep at least one of the Cyanogenmod ROMs updated with upstream. I think in a month or two I will have time to start with that (if no one else is doing it until then).
@mifritscher: I think the lack of a build (or at least download-) server was a problem for devs here and then. So yes, your offer could be very helpful! Thanks for that!

Sensation is a 3 year old device. i think as the devs have moved on to other devices, so should we. though our sensation has a lot of potential, i dont think devs will work on an android L port or making CM11 official. though there is hope with ivanich & bilal_liberty

I can give storage space and bandwidth if it's useful, please contact me to discuss the details.
I can build but i dont know how to make a device tree so if someone can do the device trees i can do the builds
I don't know if we have everything working as on stock, also I don't know if the rom would pass cts.
But even if everything works, I don't think there's anyone around who has enough time to maintain an official build.
But at this point there's only one cm which is still updated and that's ivanich's one. Where's the difference in having an official build?
Where to go from here?
I'm just a casual user looking for a ROM. Going through these threads is confusing and so many links are dead.
What available for the sensation right now?

Except for official slimkat all available and maintained roms are part of DevB so just click here in forum in the dev:db bar on roms.

[Q] [Opinions?] Best Kitkat ROM for me?

Hello everybody, I know it's against the rules to compares ROMS and say which is best but what I want to ask you is what do you think would suit the following characteristics:
Smooth and faster than stock (all of them are but you get it)
Clean and lightweight but with cool basic features
Bugs fixed (very important, the less bugs the better)
I am looking forward to android L but I heard about the storage problems and I just want to wait until it gets "Stabler". I appreciate every developers work (olivier, varun, devious fusion... ) but I'm sure you guys have your own opinions about which one suits your needs. I just want something that I can use daily without bugs. Also a rom that doesn't have the microphone problems?
I read another thread in which paranoid android was recommended and I kinda liked it, do you recommend it?
I liked it's features but I was afraid it might slow the system down... Also what's the best (again less buggy and more updated) cyanogen version? Is varun working with free xperia? I have plenty of questions because only now I though about unlocking the bootloader...

Hi,
My advice would be to try out all ROMs and pick which suits best for you. Everyone has different taste.
I personally liked Liquid smooth with thunderzap 4.7.
Regarding Cyanogen latest version (experimental RIL version by Varun is stable. Link : https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=taoshan).
As far as I know Varun is busy with CM12 bring up on various devices and fortunately he is supporting our device :victory:
If you have questions regarding how to unlock bootloader and flash kernel/Rom please check guide in Android development section here before asking questions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-l/development/guide-installing-kernels-roms-xperia-l-t2548498
Hit "Thanks" if I helped.
Thanks!
Right now I know I'll be flashing thunderzap because it looks awesome
But I'm really in doubt about paranoid android or cyanogen mod.
The thing I like about cyanogen mod is that it is really clean. In other words, the developer starts everything from scratch being able to only code the essential things. I really like that in a rom. no portings or copy pasting with old sources, but again, paranoid android developer also says that he built everything from scratch. So they are both awesome. I think I'll pm devious fusion about what bugs he has knowledge in his latest build.
I have bootloader unlock not allowed but I think I know someone that can get the job done (if I'm successful I'll make a thread about it) that's why I'm not testing already. I really hope varun fixes everything in cm12 he is a great developer!
By the way which should I choose, free xperia or varun cyanogen11? Is varun working on cyanogen12?
Maybe free xperia is more updated

Free xperia (FXP) will be updated every week with upstream changes.
But it may or may not be stable.
Cyanogenmod 11 by Varun is stable version. So I would prefer Cm11.
CM12 is already out but has some minor bugs. Depends upon your usage, it may be good as daily driver.
Go for repexpersis rom
Full z3 experience
It is flashed over fxp
Go to android development section

Oreo Rom For Sony Xperia L

Since Android Oreo 8.0 will release in a few days
I just want to know that will the developers create a custom rom based on the new android 8
I have been using my Sony Xperia L for so many years & I have used from 4.2 to 7.1 All of it
and now I'm using the nougat rom its very stable and I like it very much
If custom Oreo is created please give me a reply .Thanks
Whoa, slow down there cowboy.
It's not even out yet - and it usually takes a couple of months for the most popular devices to start getting good ROM builds. The devs can't work that quickly; don't forget that these are not official OEM updates.
The OEMs get the source code earlier, and they have entire teams working on them. Error checking (and fixing) takes a lot less time when you have teams that big. That's why it seems like they release stable builds "right off the bat" - but in reality they've been working on them for a couple of months.
If the developers don't want to do it, they won't. If they want, they will. Don't nag them about this, and don't be ungrateful.

Sorry for being so quick
But I saw a video about Android 8 beta running on a pixel device. And I really liked it
That's the reason that I asked about the ROM
And for making a ROM it's really hard and I know it after reading your reply
I thank all the developers for the amazing work they have done and I'm really grateful.
I'll wait.
Thanks
Now that sony has released some info to create custom oreo aosp rom i request for the dev who work hard for our Xperia L . Is any dev planing to build a rom oreo based .If yes thanks
