REVIEW: Doogee Valencia DG800 - Android General

Doogee is a Chinese company which's making quality Android phones for a budget-friendly price. Doogee has a great selection of Android phones but what really caught my eyes is the Doogee DG800 Valencia.
Inside the Box:
The unit itself with white back cover, another back cover (without Back Touch), 2 screen protectors (One of them is already installed), Headset with built-in microphone, Wall charger and USB 2.0 Cable.
Specifications:
The Doogee DG800 comes with a Quad-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of ROM, 13MP rear camera, 8MP front-facing camera and last but not least, Android 4.4.2 Kitkat.
Display: 4.5" qHD IPS screen (960 x 540).
CPU: MTK6582 Quad-Core CPU 1.3GHz.
RAM 1GB (962MB user access-able).
ROM: 8GB (3.35GB for Apps, 2.76GB for media).
Camera: 13 Megapixel (rear). 8 Megapixel (front-facing) [The cameras got a 88° ultra-wide angles].
Battery 2000 mAh.
Connectivity: GPS, MicroUSB 2.0, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0.
Networks: 3G/WCDMA: 850/2100 MHz
Operating System: Android 4.4.2 with Google Play and OTA Updates.
Dimensions: 138 x 67 x 9 mm.
Weight: 138g.
Colors: White (with Back Touch) & Black, Blue? Purple, Orange or Red (Regular back cover).
SIM Slots: Normal SIM + MicroSIM.
Design:
At the top of the phone there is a speaker grill, front-facing camera and a light sensor. At the button we find three capacitive buttons. The phone's front is black with a silverish bar.
On the left side there are the volume buttons, on the other side there's the power button and on the top there is the MicroUSB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone buttons are part of the back cover (which is great, so you can kick-out the dust so easily).
Over-all, the design is simple yet stylish.
Back Touch Panel:
The Back Touch panel allows you to swipe between pages, open an app of your choice and makes the camera lens focuses. It's so smooth yet you need a bit of time to get used on it.
Performance:
the devices scores 17.645 on AnTuTu benchmark which makes it a little bit slower than the Samsung Galaxy S3. The phones performs well, there was no lags and it feels so smooth.
Epic Citadel shows that's the Doogee Valencia gets 60 FPS in high quality mode. That's mean it can run 3D graphics smoothly.
Battery:
The phone is claimed to have a 2000 mAh battery, however it doesn't stand too much. On one charge, you can run 3D games for around 2hrs, online streaming for 2.9hrs, local MP4s for 3.2hrs and 8hrs of MP3 Playback. This may be a frimware issue.
Connectivity:
The unit has all the connectivity that we use nowadays. WiFi (b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.0, 2G and 3G GSM. The device has dual SIM slots. However, it GPS misses the target sometimes. I live in Tunisia, sometimes it gives my exact location on Facebook Messenger and sometimes it puts me in Vietnam or Kuala Lampur.
Camera:
Both front and back camera comes with Auto-focus, touch to focus, HDR (rear only), Face beauty and Panorama. The phone also supports Google Camera App I was quite impressed with the photo quality. So far, I only took couple of shots of my Zippo and my BIC lighter but I'm willing to take so other shots sometime during the next week.
*As I'm a new user, I can't post outside links so please replace the [dot] with . in the following link so you can see the photo examples or check the attachments.
postimg[dot]org/gallery/5kxui0k6/fa1d5324/
Operating System:
The phones comes with a custom Android 4.4.2 KitKat, it also comes with Back Touch configuration and some extra gestures called "Smart Somatosensory" which seems useless for me.
Conclusion:
For it price, I can't complain about anything. I just hope for a frimeware update to fix the battery issue.
Where to buy:
I got my unit from ChinaVasion and got it shipped via registered AirMail.
Bare in mind that you'll have to pay taxes at your country's customs. And even if you decide to go for DHL or FedEx shipping you'll pay taxes.
Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to post links as I'm a new user. Anyways, there is some unboxing videos of the phone over YouTube. Go and check them out if you want!
I hope you enjoyed the review, and let me know if you need anything else about the phone.

Neken N6S - Review (MT6592, 2/16GB, 5.0" 1080p, 3000mAh)

Introduction:
Hi,
been looking around for a while but not much attention seems to be given to Mediatek phones here on XDA.
I got one anyway since the performance seems to be rather good and compared to some brands that are well established in the 1st and 2nd world the Mediatek phones are sometimes even better. (Sorry Sony! But your TN displays are horrid.)
Picked Neken N6S from other available competitors in the price range of $200 - $250 shipped to Europe.
More about competitors and different options later.
Specifications:
Neken N6S
2GB DDR2 RAM
16GB ROM = 2GB app space, 12GB user space, ...
MT6592
3000mAh (optional), 2000mAh (default)

OS.: Android 4.2.2
Dual Sim (2 full sized SIMs, no micro or nano crap)
Display: IPS, 5.0", 1920x1080
Multitouch: 5 point
OGS: Yes
OTG: Yes
Dimensions: 141.7x70.5x10.9mm (2000mAh, presented)
Dimensions: 142x71x11.9mm (3000mAh, real measured, larger battery adds 1mm of thickness, rest is as precise as I can get but it's quite close to presented dimensions)
Weight: 165g (presented)
F. cam: 8.0 Mpx
R. cam: 13.0 Mpx
CPU: 8x1.66 Ghz
GPU: Mali-450 MP4 (MP4 = 4 cores, basically 4 Mali-400 cores)
GPS, A-GPS (no Glonass on Mediatek)
SD card size: supposedly up to 64 GB
Gravity sensor: Yes
Proximity sensor: Yes
Light sensor: Yes
Compass: Yes
WiFi: b/g/n (yes N as well)
Bluetooth: Yes (4.0, but dunno how to verify)
2G: 850/900/1800/1900
3G: 2100 (been to a screen that shows the bands, but don't know how to get there again, if it was some app or settings menu option, there were some other 3G bands but I can't test them, it all works on 2100 MHz here.)
Package:
Bought from Neken on aliexpress/alibaba. (Yes, from Neken directly it seems, hence the option to get the larger battery without buying the standard one as well and lower price due to avoiding resellers aka websites that resell phones)
Price: $238.4 including DHL (3 days shipping, arrived in 2.5 days once DHL had it in hands), excluding tax.
Total price: cheaper than Motorola Moto G 16GB single SIM, cheaper than Sony Xperia SP, cheaper than Samsung Galaxy S3, ... I say it's a steal if it will work at least for a couple years :good:
Contents:
Neken N6S, extended battery back cover, 3000mAh battery, screen protector installed, 2 spare screen protectors, clear hard case (fits only standard battery, not the extended 3000mAh), 1.0A charger (got US plug, probably only US plug available, should work with an adapter in EU too, don't have adapter yet), headphones (better than the ones I have from Nokia), USB cable for charging and connecting to PC, manual (Chinese and English if I remember correctly), ...
Bought separately:
Clear TPU case for Neken N6. Yes everything from N6 fits N6S, more importantly the TPU case can also be used with the extended 3000mAh battery
They will tell you it can't be, it was designed for the standard 2000mAh battery, but I risked it and got it anyway.
The case fits, to my surprise the backside and whole case is not thin, it could be 2mm thick so it does not really stretch but it fits anyway, it's snug but it locks on all 4 corners no problem and all the edges lock as well.
Pictures:
Unprocessed pictures.
New, with dust under the screen protector, fixed it later.

My camera lying with it's lens on the screen and focused to 0.
Pictures with the clear TPU case, IPS viewing angles:
Yes the buttons are separate, not on screen
And unobtrusively illuminated when touched. They are touch buttons below the screen. That means you get true 1920x1080px of screen estate to use. Darn it, forgot to zoom the wallpaper.
The back.
Almost default home screen.
Tests:
Real tests, done by me. Want some other? Let me know.
Click the picture to view full size, kept them original at 1920x1080px PNG.
Some are done without limited CPU some maybe with, I limit the CPU by default to save battery.
All done at 1920x1080px (unless benchmark forced it otherwise), 1080p is really taxing for mobile GPUs.

LCD Tester 3.8.3:
Refresh rate: 57Hz
Yellow can be a little to the green side on lowest brightness.
Blacks are enhanced, it seems to hit the limit at 10 or 11 which looks black.
White seems to be alright, goes all the way and only 255 looks like pure white, 254 can be distiguished.
Gamma looks like 1.4, but it doesn't seem off to me. Yes the blacks can be seen sometimes as dark but that's about it.
GPS Test:
No signal inside a concrete building.
All tests outside walking on a road, field, forest.
Strength usually around 30. Probably doesn't go over 40. Is it good or bad?
Lock time after a fresh start usually 20 - 70s. If it had GPS lock before, then it locks instantly.
Some apps are better than other when it comes to getting a location.
Speedtest:
WiFi connected to an old router with WiFi N, 65 Mbps.
30/30 Mbps network connection.
The phone maxes it no problem to 30/30 Mbps.
Pros & cons:
Decent screen, maximum size of 5.0" that I found still pocketable and usable one handed although two hands are more comfy.
1080p can be a bit hard on the GPU when gaming but even Real Racing 3 runs fine on the default high setting. I turned it down all the way to low but it wasn't a slideshow on the default high setting either. Other games ok as well graphic performance wise, but most are boring.
It is truly a shame game developers forget to give users the basic graphic configuration settings so one could easily in-game change to lower resolution, some offer lower graphic details.
Device did not come rooted.
With 3000mAh battery it can play 4.5h of 1080p 8bit video/movies using MX Player HW+ video decoding and software audio decoding, movies are standard PC quality, around 3-4GB each, no low bitrate things but just small enough to fit on FAT32. This is played at FULL brightness, with headphones, cellphone ON (3G), WiFi OFF, BT OFF, location OFF, Clear Motion ON, CPU saving ON. Does not get hot with HW decoding.
Can also play 20 Mbps 1080p 8bit videos using HW decoding. And movies encoded in 1080p 10bit via software decoding but it is using the CPU quite a bit, it has the power to decode it smoothly though.
It is 4h of playback to hit 15% warning and then another nearly 30min to hit 4% warning.
Playing a lower complexity video at minimum brightness it would last "forever" (that's what GSM arena uses for their crappy testing, SD video and airplane mode, etc.).
The OS seems to have a few enhancements, Clear Motion that makes playing video smoother, I don't know how, but it could be interpolating frames to get higher framerate. It really works and a low fps footage from a camera plays more smoothly with it.
I use it.
Next are two audio enhancements, first works IMHO as a equalizer when headphones are plugged in and enhances middle frequencies.
The speaker booster seems as a normalization and makes quiet things more loud which can be useful for movies and playing them without a boost in the video player. But this works everywhere, even for playing songs where it is noticeable too I think.
I don't use the earphone enhancer but I do use the speaker booster since the speaker is not extremely loud.
Headphones are a bit the opposite, I basically use minimum volumes with the two headphones I have.
Device info:
Front camera is not very good, I would not say it has 8Mpx but maybe 5Mpx but still nothing spectacular in terms of noise.
Rear camera is ok, 13Mpx seems real, since the lens is tiny and all that jazz of phone camera is there and it will never measure up to a decent compact camera. Think what you want but iPhone's camera sucks too. Don't expect wonders. Camera operation seems as fluid as I've experienced on Samsung Galaxy S4. The burst shooting mode is fast, I mean it really is fast and much faster than my older compact camera. Focusing is alright, nothing bad. It can track objects too if you like that. Panorama, HDR and so on. Flash is fine, can't compare to other phones.
Rear camera is protected if you use the extended back cover with larger battery, the lens is not sticking out anymore. With the TPU case on the lens is sunk inside.
Touchscreen is ok but rarely some applications seem to have an issue. Real Racing 3 likes to lose touch for gas pedal when holding it down for minutes during some races, RR3 also rarely loses orientation which means no steering or no steering to one side. ON/OFF of RR3 fixes it. LCD Tester today acted up in one of it's tests by moving to the next like if I touch it. Strange because there were no ghost? touches anywhere else at the moment when I moved around but only in that test. So go figure I think the touchscreen is alright, just some applications are not very good at handling the controls.
Screen looks nice, not over saturated, yay! The blacks are a little enhanced though. Whites are fine.
Screen is usable whole, no software buttons. At 1920x1080px (440 PPI) it is impossible to see the individual pixels as close as I can focus. Nice to read text like ebooks and websites. Brightness is alright during the day, outside, I would prefer lower minimum though but doubt any phone goes that low by default.
SD card works, use my older 8GB card, lost some screenshots and such since it crashed but after reformatting it in the phone itself it works alright so far. Will replace it with a bigger and newer one, it did act up in my older phone too.
App space is 2GB and I did not manage to fill it yet and I did install lots of things to try them out.
2GB RAM seems alright, probably even 1.5GB RAM would be ok, but 1GB for Android seems a little bit small if one uses the smartphone a lot, like gaming especially or web browsing.
16GB ROM has nearly 12GB user usable and it is enough space for me especially since I can add as much as I like via an SD card.
Buttons work alright, they do have a tactile feedback, for me it could be stronger but that's me used to robust buttons
Proximity sensor only recognizes near and far, works fine to turn off the screen when calling.
Light sensor works fine but seems to have only about 8 levels approximately/guessing, at least that's what apps show.
Compass works, which is something not all Mediatek phones have.
All the other sensor goodies are there, see Antutu device info.
Phone charges alright via USB from PC, can be turned into charge only and charges best when not being drained at the same time, so of course it charges fastest when it's off, or screen is off, WiFi off, etc.
Not sure it supports fast charging, don't have a fast charger or know how it may detect fast charging on the charger. Had it plugged to a 30A USB port but it has data lines disconnected, no fast charging happened.
Calls are definitely better than my old phone, not very loud which is a shame but the audio is clear and has a decent quality compared to older phones.
Calls and playing music seems alright and does not drain much.
Screen and CPU/GPU hungry applications are the main cause of battery drain then having unnecessary connections enabled, like WiFi, BT, GPS.
TPU case fits both standard and extended battery variant. You just have to find a seller of the color option you like.
So far, 3 weeks later, I am satisfied and find no bugs in the phone.
Build quality is good as I have nothing to complain about. Compared to other phones, I've seen/had similar quality from Nokia.
Bezels are small, spaces between parts are minimal and only sometimes the plastic bulges a tiny tiny bit around the middle close to the buttons on the side. But this took me some time to find out by gliding my fingers around the phone. Had similar thing on a Nokia phone, that's just how plastic works. Back cover snaps well and holds. Phone seems to be all around plastic except the front where the screen is and I guess the black around the display is some metal. Paint seem good. The white back is painted as well and looks a little pearl like if you know what I mean. So it is not just pure white "ugly" plastic.
Installed screen protector was probably put by the seller and it had 3 dust particles under it. Cleaned it up later in my very dusty place, no idea how am I going to ever install a screen protector here, this certainly ain't dust free place
The protector is matte but I got used to it. The screen is glossy though.
No idea if any of the 3 spare screen protectors I have are glossy. But they are two different types/styles/source than the one that is on the phone. Got 2 with the package as gift and another one surprisingly with the TPU case.
GUI has app drawer and holding the home button brings the fake process manager I guess it's called nearly useless app manager that allows you to switch between apps but will not fully/truly close or kill apps if you remove them from there.
Other options:
Jiayu G4S MT6592, 2/16GB, 3Ah - not available at the time, didn't want to wait for it even though I knew it's gonna come out in April with G5S, seeing how overpriced and out of stock Jiayu phones can be I gave it a pass and the price may jump up after the initial sale of the first batch.
iOcean X7S MT6592, 2/16GB, 3Ah - more expensive, weird option for 3000mAh battery resulting in a possible Frankenstein.
Motorola Moto G - difficult to buy in Europe, only single SIM, no SD card, only 1GB RAM, ... seems like unfair comparison with MT6592 phones but Moto G costs more than them.
Sony Xperia SP - the display on most Sony phones is an old and outdated TN panel with poor viewing angles, had it in my hands and it felt like the same poor display I had on my Nokia E51, even more expensive than Moto G, $300 or so.
Jiayu G4 MT6589T, 2/32GB - was a tempting option at the time, for $226 but a wait for G4S would be wiser.
...
Picked it because it has MT6592 with 2GB RAM and a big 3000mAh battery.
The only other option was iOcean X7S which this told to be a clone of or some such, anyway, iOcean is more expensive and the 3000mAh option is Frankensteined on it I think.
Jiayu makes the only other 3000mAh phones but G4S got released only yesterday and I did not feel like waiting another month, waited long enough already. G4 platform is a nice phone but seeing how long it takes Jiayu to adopt new technologies and how out of stock and overpriced it can be I gave it a pass and did not wait for G4S. It is definitely more boxy like an iPhone is. With smaller screen it is easier to carry around but also harder to work on since the screen is smaller and yes it is noticeable, plus it may not be as good for reading due to lower PPI, still decent though. I would see G4S as a main competitor unless it's price goes up too much after the initial sold out.
G5S is probably fine too but one pays considerably more for the metal body.
At 5.0" or with 1080p, this is IMHO the only option right now when it comes to bigger battery. Unless of course you like the bigger battery option and higher price of iOcean X7S.
Update: Similar package of Jiayu G4S costs around $232 + shipping + tax.
From my POV, it's either G4S or N6S depending on how big a screen you want and if you want 720p or 1080p.
Would not opt out of a decent battery if you use the phone frequently. The cell standby and screen eat power plus does anything that uses the CPU/GPU a lot (games).
Clarifications:
Goal:
sub $300 total price
bigger than 2200mAh battery
decent CPU&GPU
minimal dimensions height and width wise
unlimited thickness since I do not care about thinness war and will rather have a device that runs for several days than a paper thin phone that lasts me a couple hours
no bigger than 5.0" = still pocketable and usable by one hand only
working GPS
decent build quality
English as second language, feel free to point out errors. Surprised?
Vellamo:
HTML 5: 1971
Metal: 622
Sample photos, rear camera:
Panorama:
HDR:
If there is light and the object is still the ISO is low and noise is down, but if the ISO goes up then as always with any mobile camera the noise gets in there. Not something that can't be removed in post processing though. As said before, no phone will match a compact camera, physically impossible. And even most/all compact cameras suffer from noise at higher ISO.

As far as Europe is concerned you have to apply a gps fix
in order to let your gps work correctly.
I followed some instructions on youtube and the result is very good.
Type "android gps fix" on youtube...
root to 4.4.2
hello i want to ask if i can update form 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 android .
Have you found any method to root the phone? I bought one as well, and I need to root it, but haven't found any method to do that so far.

Thanks, I might try it as the initial lock does take some time that I think shouldn't be necessary.

Dunno, I have not had the need to mess with the phone on lower than application level yet.
What would the advantage of having 4.4 kitkat be?
4.2.2 is the most common, all apps work.
I don't think there are any Chinese Kitkat phones, or only a couple of questionable source/quality.

Let me check, I have not rooted it since I found I don't need root really, maybe when I do more with the phone from a programming POV.
Any tool used for MTK6592 should do the trick to root it.
Often they are chinese tools, I downloaded some for sure.
There is a thread about Jiake X3S, I think there is info about rooting MTK6592.
I have VRoot here from several sources and also MTK Droid tools. Probably the most reliable for MTK phones. Also framaroot but don't know about it. Search and you will find, it should be the same for all MTK6592 phones to get root. Shops often sell phones rooted or with optional root.

Phone works fine so far. Real racing still is not as great to control on occasions, no idea if it's a game issue or the controls freezer sometimes as I may lose steering or holding the gas down turns off. But the screen works fine anywhere else.
Most draining is when one fiddles with the phone, not even as much playing a video with HW acceleration, but moving screens and starting, opening, closing, browsing. Apart from heavy 3D gaming of course, that's the biggest battery eater.
Oh BTW, the charger works fine, got a socket adapter from US to EU and works really well, better than USB charging from a computer I think. There must be some trick to allow fast charging over 500mA. Probably the data wires shorted but haven't tried that with my home made USB power supply.
Engineering mode, type: *#*#3646633#*#*
Finally got there again, works for MTK phones.
Trying to update the files manually. Like this.
► How to fix / repair GPS on Chinese smartphones - MTK6592 6589 GPS FIX - S4 jiayu G4 Umi X2 [HD]
Doesn't seem to do anything. Had to create the data folder and I doubt it check the data folder for EPO updates.
The MTKGPS app needs root.
The only thing I find dissatisfactory is the initial fix delay. But I bet it's present on any other phone in this area. Still get an alright signal of 25-35 in GPS test and in debug it does list around 9 satellites.

I got it from Neken via Alibaba/Aliexpress so if anyone is going to have replacement parts it's going to be them since they make and sell the phones.
If I were you I would look there and their homepage to find their contacts and talk to the people, they will not have it listed for sell in the shops probably but could offer it to you if you ask.
I got that way the bigger battery and cover instead of the stock one when ordering my phone, you just have to ask.
Anyone saw an Android update to higher version? Probably not but doesn't hurt to check.

We're going to put the Tronsmart PS7 through a a bunch of tests and find out just how long that battery will last in this 7" Phablet!

Tronsmart PS7 Review!
Tronsmart has been on a roll lately with it's devices. I've reviewed several of them recently and have been impressed.

Tronsmart PS7
Headphones
Micro-USB cable
Power Adapter
User Manual
Screen Protector
First Impressions:
The Tronsmart PS7 is really massive for a phone, but when you consider it's intended purpose as a Phablet, then you'll see it's quite reasonable in size.
Thin bezels make the PS7 appear smaller than it actually is. If comparing to many 7" tablets out there you can see it's smaller.
Size Comparisons:
Tronsmart PS7(7"), iNew i2000(5.7"), Zopo ZP980+(5"), iOcean X7(5")
As you can see the PS7 is a bit larger than the i2000.
It dwarfs the X7.
And the ZP980+
First Start:
When I first booted the PS7 I was a little worried. The first boot took around 90 seconds. This is a little longer than I am used to.
A reboot had the PS7 running in about 18 seconds.
The first thing you notice about the PS7 is the screen. The 1920x1200 screen is HUGE and very BRIGHT!
It's so bright that I had to turn it down to minimum in order be comfortable in a darker room.
The details, colors, and viewing angles are quite good.
No complaints about the touchscreen. It supports up to 10 simultaneous touches.
The PS7 has a good feel in my hands. It's a little too big for one handed use, but lends itself to two hand with no issues.
Often on a larger device with bezels this thin I'll have accidental taps from holding it. I didn't experience that with the PS7.
It's just the right size.
I popped a 64GB microsd card into the back of the PS7, connected to my wifi and was downloading apps within minutes.
The About Phone Screen lists the following items:
Model number:
PS7
Android Version:
4.2.2
Kernel Version:
3.4.39 [email protected] #1 Tue Mar 18 15:25:55 CST 2014
Build Number:
2719_v92_gq3015_20140325
Baseband Version:
MOLY.WR8.W1315.MD.V21.P1, 2014/01/16 15:51
The Tronsmart PS7 comes without root access. I actually prefer it this way. Certain apps tend to be angry if root is detected.
It's good to have a choice.
Cellular Connectivity:
Using the PS7 as a phone is a pleasant experience. I didn't notice any odd echos, and the speakerphone works fine.
It is a little daunting to hold a 7" phablet next to my head, so I recommend a bt headset.
I wasn't expecting 3G to work since the PS7 only supports 850/2100Mhz for WCDMA, but I guess At&t has 3G on 850Mhz around me now.
So I was able to get H speeds.(No H+ though)
Bluetooth:
I tested the bluetooth with a car radio, headset, bt boombox, and keyboards. The PS7 did well in all tests.
Battery Life:
The battery life on the PS7 is very decent. I found that with mixed use the 3500mAh battery lasted me the entire day.
I also found that on standby the PS7 just barely sips power. I managed to get over 4 days(wifi on, checking email every so often, minimal browsing)
For screen on time I was able to stream HD video to the PS7 for a little over 6 hours before I was down to 25% battery.
Personally I'd like to see phones or tablets with a double size battery option, but the 3500mAh seems to last long enough for me.
Wireless Display:
The settings menu has an option for Wireless Display, but there is no where to actually turn it on. I'm told that a new firmware update will fix this problem.
I'll be testing it out with my Tronsmart T1000 Ezcast dongle.
Media Playback:
I tested several apps to check how the Tronsmart PS7 plays media both locally and from the web.
XBMC:
The first one I downloaded was an XBMC stable build. I was expecting it to launch quickly and was not let down. It took about 5 seconds.
I was able to playback many 1080p and 720p files without any issues.
The 7" screen works well with XBMC, and for the first time on a phone I can use the onscreen keyboard!
With 2GB of ram there is plenty left over after launching XBMC.
MX Player:
The only real problem was with the audio codecs. I don't believe the MTK6592 has support for AC3 or DTS audio built in.
I had to choose software decoder for AC3 files and installed the DTS codecs for MX Player in order to get this to work.
Dice Player:
Most files played well in HW mode. The MTK6592 in the is more than addequate to playback 1080p in software decoding mode. DTS and AC3 were properly decoded and played back.
Netflix:
Videos played smooth in HD and subtitles/audio were in sync. At first it seemed that Netflix was having issues. It kept switching between high quality and low quality. A pause to let it buffer quickly ironed that out.
HBO Go:
Everything looked and sounded great.
Crackle:
Works like a charm.
GPS:
Left side indoors Right side outdoors wooded/cloudy area
I had no issues with GPS in the PS7. After turning it on I was locked onto 17 satellites within 12 seconds.(This was on a very clear day)
Accuracy was good within 4 feet. When compared to other MTK6592 phones, it seems like the PS7 has better than average GPS signal.
Compass:
The compass works well.
Google Sky Maps responded properly.
FM Radio:
One of my favorite things about the MTK chipsets I've used is the FM Radio.
The inlcuded headphones act as an antenna for the FM Radio. It's possible to record music and talkshows directly onto the PS7.
The FM Radio app also identifies what song and station are currently playing.
Wifi
Wifi reception is very good. My routers we're on the other side of the house.
Front Camera:
The front camera claims to be 5MP, but is most likely 3MP interpolated to 5MP. Quality is still decent.
Rear Camera:
The rear camera is 13MP, and provides a decent image. The flash works and is timed right, but it could be a little brighter. It's not too great for low light shots.
Considering most 7" tablets I've seen have 5MP rear cameras with no flash, the PS7 does well in this category.

Benchmarks:
I tested the PS7 with Antutu, Quadrant, Vellamo, GFXBench, 3DMark, and NenaMark2.
Antutu:
The PS7 scored 27482 on it's first try.
Quadrant Standard Edition:
The PS7 managed an impressive 14429.
Vellamo:
The PS7 scored a 2002 in the HTML 5 test and 676 in the METAL test.
GFXBench:
3DMark:
NenaMark2:
Conclusion:
The Tronsmart PS7 is a great phablet! This size is just about perfect. It's bigger than most phones, yet small enough to still fit in my jeans pocket.
Screen quality is a huge plus when browsing the web or watching videos. Performance is great even though it's running at 1920x1200 resolution.
I'll never have to carry my phone and my tablet with me. The PS7 replaces both!
My only real gripe with the PS7 is the lack of backlight for the navigation keys. This turns into a non-issue once you get used to the locations.

How to Root the Tronsmart PS7!
It's super easy to get a basic root on the Tronsmart PS7.
Steps:
1)On the PS7 go into Settings-->Security--->Enable Unknown Sources
2)Download and install Framaroot-1.9.1 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
3)Launch Framaroot, Select the "Barahir" option and reboot
4)Enjoy your rooted PS7
Hi, waiting full review
Wooow Tronsmart made Smartphones.
I hope that will be as well as their USB-Dongle !
I just finished the review... and its up!
Also quickly rooted with Framaroot. Now making a backup of the rooted stock rom.
Very interesting device.. but battery seems to be too small for 7". My note 5.3" with 2500mah and it still needs to be charged during the day..

EDIT 6/19
reverted back to 4.2.2 (Ebay crashes on opening item information even on fresh installs/reinstalls on 4.4 and more importantly super-low call and ringer volume on 4.4…so back to 4.2..also 4.2 recovery reliable and stable,.plus has touch)
Screen
Hello,
I just have a question. I haven't read any review about these 7" phablets where they comment about the screen glass. No vendor mention that they have a Gorilla glass, but I want to know if the screen is easy to scratch, or if the included screen protector is any good.
Thank you for your answer.

Do not think this one (have the Orient Phone Mega Pro 7) has Gorilla glass..but no scratches despite some heavy and rough use...only Coolpad 9976A (not even Huawei media pad X1) claims Gorilla glass but you may want to check frequencies for calls etc. I think the protector is good but not smudge-resistant like olephobic screens..but then no worse (maybe better) than the Sony Xperia Ultra Z imo (smudge attractor)
Thank you for your answer. I come from using the Sony Z Ultra. This PS7 model obviously is not as sexy as the Ultra, but the problem is that I broke the Ultra screen and replacing it cost me the same as buying the PS7 new. The screen of the Ultra is really fragile. I hope the one from the PS7 is stronger.

Me too..just sold my Ultra Z today (not that this is the best looking phone but the screen brightness, reflectivity (less) and viewing angles superior to Ultra Z imo...the LTPS stuff is very good...just bought and sold for a significant loss the Sharp Aquos SH-06F (Snapdragon 801/32GB storage/4200maH) (latest model came out last month..awesome for holding as a 7 inch phone felt lighter than even the ultra Z and shorter! (they compressed even top bezel!)...amazing package..BUT..to me the IGZO panel was not as good as the LTPS on this one..also made by Sharp)..the SH-06F was otherwise perfect in every other aspect...and yes, one thing no updates unless on Docomo network (unless the Sharp website would post updates for downloading) though someone said you could change the APN to make it look it wants or is on a docomo APN (even though downloading done through wifi)

I've never noticed the Sharp phone before. It looks really nice. But I bet it is a lot more expensive than the PS7. But that Sharp phone looks like the one to get. Is the screen really that bad, compared to the Sony Z Ultra? It is as tall as the Ultra, and a cm wider. How did you get a hold of it?
It is a shame I didn't join this discussion before.
Apologize to OP if message may not be about Tronsmart completely though is in part

it is almost 4-5 more expensive. You may be interested in the device (links below) (reminds me of the K900 Lenovo I had)...dialer looks similar also Intel Clover Trail CPU (however I remember rooting was not easy-but the k900 community evolved significantly with folks bundling root in the rom itself..who knows it probably even has deodexed rom now-there is a thread on xda but am talking of k900 lenovo)
noticed dd2 ram (some of these devices have ddr3 so not sure how much of a difference it makes when paired with a diff processor such as the Intel one..EDIT: they claim it is LPDDR2 which they say is better than DDR3)
again check frequencies as just saying 2g/3g does not mean much if your frequencies are not covered

more on the Sharp..although tablet news is saying it is 680USD, docomo's own site which is the only original source for this phone as it is docomo-branded has it over 88000Yen which takes it to the mid 800s USD. And then you need to get it sim unlocked-SO..
it is much more expensive..like over 4 times (on Ebay..one would think it was a ridiculous price and it was..but me being gadget buff got it-anyway sold it swallowed my loss learnt my lesson)...the screen had color/brightness shifts (like a TN panel) when tilting the phone from side to side on both axes..this is irritating as it is on laptops where you would move around less but even more so on a handheld device. IGZO may have better color gamut etc but seems to have worse viewing angles compared to this LTPS stuff that is on this Orienphone/Ulefone/Tronsmart/Aonex also made by Sharp..think IGZO has lower power consumption--you can search and read up on these as I do not know much about these.. however it has broader frequencies, awesome form factor for a 7 inch, super lightweight, very fast, bigger battery (4200maH) and responsive ...great signal and reception, call quality-drawback-no software updates none if not on docomo..though someone said you could trick it into thinking as on docomo by putting in a docomo apn (atlhough the software update itself is over wifi)..rooting etc? too early as too new a product...however in the end, screen is ultimate factor and therefore it fallls short

I didn't like the past Sony screens, because you had to use the device directly in front of your eyes. But the Xperia Ultra changed all that. If you say that the Sharp one has a bad screen, I believe you. And more if you were willing to sold it back at a loss.
And about the Teclast model, it seems that they only use the 2100 MHz band, so it is only 2G if I want to use it in my country I will try to find out. It is really strange that they don't have the 850 MHz band.
If you happen to know other model, please let me know. If there is none, then Tronsmart will be my next purchase.
Thank you for your help.
Hello,
I bought the 'created N7' that is like the ulefone u7/tronsmart ps7/luftco a onex/orientphone mega pro 7 etc..., and is sold by the factory with 4.4.2 installed
I found a bug in this product
The bug is about the bad working of the s-view window.
I link here a video where is possible to see how it should work:
http://youtu.be/lk1P9jziw64
The problem is that with the created N7 it is not possible to answer
to the calls without opening the flip cover:
when the N7 receive a call, the s-view window is not sensitive, so it
is not possible to answer
The sview with cover closed is sensitive only for a few seconds after the cover has ben closed, specifically only before the sview goes in standby (black screen)...after the standby, wakening the phone by a call or simply pressing the power button (without opening the cover) the sview seems not sensitive
These are two videos that shows the problem:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EG6D...e_gdata_player
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-By6...e_gdata_player
This should be fixed, because is an important feature that is missing:
the phones like N7 of other brands (like ulefone u7/u69, luftco a-one
x, tronsmart ps7, orientphone mega pro 7) instead have a fully
functional s-view window
I already informed some created online sellers (kent wang, peter
yang... ) about this bug,
they told me that they will contact the engineer... but i have
not answer yet...i think they are not able to solve this problemi...
A seller told me that they send the leather case for free,
Its a gift , so i cannot ask them to fix this problem
Can someone help me to fix this problem?
I tried installing firmware of other device (luftco a onex 4.4.2)
But nothing has changed ...(and by the way i found that the luftco firmware
does not fit with my n7...the camera does not work with it)
Any hint?
Any suggestion?
I did some tests i found that actually the sview is sensitive also after the standby, but not enought to feel the touches through the screen...
in the settings there is an option 'increase touch sensitivity to allow the control through sview screen',
seems that this high sensitivity status is not reactivated if the cover is not opened after the phone goes to standby...
How can i fix this problem? perhaps some fix on touch drivers is needed?
Please help me!
Thank you!
i have used the s-view cover briefly but did not have issues (like i could take the call through the window)..just me but I reverted back to 4.2.2 because of the incall volume and higher ringer volumes (not found a way to fix that in 4.4.2..recall even Ultra Z had that issue with initial 4.4.2 versions before they fixed it and then Ebay app crashes no matter what I try (when trying to click on any item)...low in call volume was a big negative for me...added plus have cwm touch in 4.2.2 versus regular cwm but that is not a big deal (sure someone has a working twrp too which would be great)
btw successfully deodexed the 4.4.2 (even though not using it) using the tool here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2713329
however keep getting bootloop on deodexed 4.2.2
EDIT
also successfully applied Xposed mods (various like getting many more toggles, volume rocker wake etc..Gravity xposed is best, Xutilities, Xuimod and Xblast are others) on both the 4.2.2. and 4.4.2
also can get advanced reboot, screenshot using home hard button, slide status bar for screen brightness adjustment etc

I received an email from Teclast. They only support the 2100 MHz band on their phone.
Now the decision will be if I want to have 2G speeds (I'm almost always on reach of many public WiFi signals) and a $150 phablet with metal body, or a 3G and 0.5 cm shorter, $250 one with better camera and a plastic body.
If you happen to know another option, I'll be very greatful. The Sharp one is out of my league right now.
Thank you again.
Ok back to kitkat now using this version of the rom for (as needrom links says) Ulefone U69/U7, Carpad T69, Tronsmart PS7, Yuandao M87, OrientPhone Mega Pro 7.0, Created N7 (but using for OrientPhone)
https://mega.co.nz/#!w8tSEB7A!y15nkEH-q5f-4b8yXeOZWxQRuwMunlWfZ9nwsksLW0A
from
http://www.needrom.com/mobile/ulefo...ndao-m87-orientphone-mega-pro-7-0-created-n7/
The supposedly newer 5/27 rom (on Ulefone site link
http://www.ule-fone.com/downloads/ulefone-7-0-inch/)
and then the 6/05 rom from link
http://www.pandawillforum.com/showt...-4-2-for-Ulephone-U7-Orientphone-Mega-Pro-7-0
have issues (5/27 could not root no matter what-has while and orange Welcome boot animation just so you know) and the 6/05 Lutfco Onex rom (again same device) from link below has no MTK engineering mode (which I used to successfully tweak in call/ringer/notification volume levels) (the 6/05 rom has the Onex Black white boot animation)
you can use Mobile uncle tools (from playstore) or MTK Engineering Mode app per this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2248396
pr just type this in dialer
*#*#3646633#*#* to get into MTK engineering mode (no app needed)
Need to Headset and Headset Loudspeaker and Mic within each of those (for each level like level0 level1 etc..think these are the volume steps as called out in build prop)
example levels shown here (different phone but same applies)
http://flaresroms.blogspot.com/2014/05/rom422un-official-mere-by-john-reniel.html
non touch recovery cwm as got using MKTdroid tools not fancy but does the job and is fast..the CWm touch recovery takes forever
4.4.2 with working camera+root (SuperSU)+access to MKT Enng tools
vicolodo..think the camera work in JB rom not in 4.4 (in the created kk, the camera only does the front camera not the rear) wondering if it is a gallery apk, camera.bin, and camera lib files issue -will let you know if I have any success (not sure if the 6/5 luftco kk rom has fixed this issue..but then no engineering mtk mode on that and need it to boost pathetically low ringer and in-call earpiece default volumes)
EDIT
(as everything on xda. this is what worked for me do your own checks and due diligence..nothing guaranteed)
so took this rom from here
http://www.ule-fone.com/downloads/ulefone-7-0-inch/
file folder name is 20140527_e2719v92_gq3015
but could not root it (even using vroot)
so from an earlier 4.4.2 rom (link below)
http://www.needrom.com/mobile/ulefo...ndao-m87-orientphone-mega-pro-7-0-created-n7/
which was rootable via vroot (but camera rear did not work), had created cwm recovery image file using mktdroid tools
folder name for this rom is
20140526_e2719v92_gq3015_N7
mktdroid tools guide for cwm is here
http://www.chinaphonearena.com/foru...-CWM-MTK6595-MTK6582-MTK6589-MTK6589T-MTK6577
so installed the rom in first link (5/27)
then went back to flashing mode (no battery etc)
and in the folder of the rom (first link) renamed recovery.img as something else
and put instead the recovery cwm image file created for the needrom rom as the recovery image file.
when flashing unchecked everything except recovery..so the scatter took the new recovery file
then booted to cwm and flashed cwm su update zip file (can find many places)
booted after flashing..no issues SU was there and so was root
camera works on this 5/27 rom AND you have access to mtk engineering tools/mode
only thing google play etc would not connect to network so just went to each google app (like play services, partner setup etc and cleared all data and cache)
on rebooting everything worked! (root, google play etc, mtk enng mode, cwm, camera)
old cwm attached..this will prompt you to update su later

Doogee Turbo 2 DG900 Hands on review

Doogee has increasingly improved their products to their customers. Since Doogee DG580, Doogee will release Doogee DG900 and Doogee DG850. I am lucky to get a sample now. And i am glad to share with you. First, i will test Doogee DG900 with you. Because i really like this smartphone with high-end performance.
Exquisite 5inch FHD IPS Corning Gorillia Glass 3 Touch Screen
Doogee Turbo 2 DG900 has updated overally compared with other models, this time, it has 5inch FHD IPS screen with 1920*1080pixels screen resolutions. It is euipped with third generation Gorilla glass touch screen, which can help me prevent scratching. When i open the movie like "The flash", the definition is really high, and screen color is very vivid and real. It's worthwhile to have a try.
Powerful MTK6592 Octa Core 1.7GHz Processor
CPU is quite important for me to play 3D games, when i play Temple Run, the speed is quite swift. Due to MTK6592 Octa core 1.7ghz processor, the overall performance has been improved largely. Couple RAM 2GB ROM 16GB, it has added the speed of the smartphone to search the Internet, play games, watch videos or download any apps and so on. You got know how influential the real tech affect us.
18.0 MP Rear Camera 8.0 MP Front Camera
About the smartphone dual camera, it supports 18MP rear camera and 8mp front camera, as is known to all, most majority of smartphones has the main camera is up to 13.0MP, instead of 18.0MP, however, Doogee DG900 has 18.0mp back camera to shoot the real and ultra-clear pictures to record the unforgettable memory of our life. And 8MP front camera is also incredible to auto shoot for me. I can also beautify the myself by this smartphone.
Rear touch panel, making me do the apps easier
With the rear touch panel, i can now as easy as single handed double tap on back, giving me more freedom to use my hands.
Support 3G, GPS, WIFI, Bluetooth, Multilanguage, Play Store, etc.
Morever, of course it can support 3G and dual sim card, dual standby, which means i can use a 3G network by inserting 3G sim card, the other 2g network by inserting GSM sim card. This smartphone also supports Multilanguage, i can set up it in my mother tongue, which provides the much convenience without language barrier. Google Play store is installed in this smartphone, i can download more than 700,000 apps to perfect my needs. It is built in 2500mAh battery, which can support long working time for me. As for the standby time, it depends on the specific enviorment.
In conclusion, Doogee DG900 is the latest 5inch fhd octa core smartphone with RAM 2GB ROM 16GB. The trendy looks, hardware, functions and so on has increased me to not put it down.
Isn't doogee dg900 a crap?

Do you really think mt6592 can work smoothly on 1080p display? MT6592 can only work smoothly on 720p display and all slim glassphone heats up fast. You may say you just like the glass design, but can you really endure the TINY battery life? If you want to buy a good looking phone at $200 budget you can buy umi zero, even it's also a crap, but it got AMOLED display, SONY IMX135 and METAL design!
I'm looking for good real user reviews. Sound like spam the whole of it like you're selling it.
Spec wise it sounds great but we all know Chinese phones are mostly poor despite specs. However some companies are pulling their fingers out and making good solid devices. I like the look of this as I said so if anyone has one, can you please do a real review with the pros and cons.
Thanks

Not a review, but just a few points...
After my Samsung Note died (finally I am so happy), I bought 2 of these off Alliexpress, I for myself and 1 for my wife 2 weeks later. That was back in November/December of 2014. So we have had 6 months of daily use out of these.
The bad:
1. Started giving errors about no sd card and no sim card inserted. Used some sticky tape on the back of the sim and sd card to keep them in place and slightly increase the thickness. No issues since.
2. On a hot day using navigation (Google maps) and charging the battery, the phone will warn of a thermal shut down while sitting on the dashboard. I guess this is partly due to the protective case not allowing any heat to escape. Th next case will b a more open design.
3. One of the orientation sensors is not right. Google Sky maps gets disorientated when you view op. Down works.
4. Need for Speed crashes. (all other apps I've installed, over 130, works)
The good:
In short, everything else!
1. The 18MP Sony camera is fantastic, even in low light. The Samsung Note camera would not even take a picture in where the Doogee still takes good pictures in low light.
2. It's thin and light.
3. The colors are not as vibrant on the Doogee as on the Note, but the resolutions is exceptional at 443 ppi. Clear and a very good reading angle.
4. On low usage, it will last easily 2 days between battery charges. Where the Note would be dead by 5 PM on a busy day, the Doogee will still have 40% battery life at 9PM . I manage to drain it once by 9PM on the same day. Where on the Note, I had nothing running in the background and did my best to conserve the battery, I have every bit of eye candy installed on the Doogee, from live backgrounds to anything that sucks juice.
5. The Note was sluggish point. With Google Maps running, it was incapable of doing anything else... With the Doogee, I have never see it slow down, ever. Even with Google Maps and Open Street maps both running and navigating at the same time while watching a HD video clip. 8 cores wins every time!
6. The phone comes pre-installed with a screen protector, and there is an envelope with a few spares. After 6 months, the original screen protector is still clear.
7. The sound volume is much louder than the Samsung. You can actually hear the speaker phone even when there is a lot of noise.
8. Has more app storage space than the Note. Always had the Note complaining about storage. Never on the Dogge with more apps and more data installed.
9. Received 3 OS updates from Samsung in the 1st year. Received 3 OS updates from Doogee in the 1st 4 months!
10. The fast charger will charge it from flat to 100% in less than 2 hours!
The phone stays responsive, no matter what you do.
Will I buy another Doogee product, sure, any day.
Hope this help somebody....

Elephone P3000S 3GB compared to THL 2015

Hi, this is a copy of the review I just published on my web site after having tested both the THL 2015 and the latest Elephone P3000S.
Any picture mentioned in the text can be found in my original review since I cannot yet post external links here.
I hope it will help...
The newest release of Elephone P3000S has potential to be another THL-killer.
The earlier P3000S phones were no thread compared to the THL 2015, but for the new version, Elephone refreshed the specification to either equal or exceed its rival, at least on paper:
Look and feel:
The big logo, the red circle surrounding the camera unit, the shiny 4G stamp on the front, ...nothing contributes to make the P3000S a beauty (this is subjective of course). No nice finishing touch and the weird decision to locate the volume button on the left side which the flap will cover. The flip cover itself feels cheap and tends to snap out too easily. While I prefer its transparent window over the round hole in the THL cover, it does make the touch screen less reactive for answering a call.
At the opposite of the THL, the 3 soft buttons don't have back light but the notification LED has a color selector for each type of event. The app history (when you keep the Home button pressed) includes an app killer to quickly clean up the memory. A nice addition that THL used to have in some models but not the THL 2015.
Analog and digital clock can be selected from the S View Cover settings.
Sliding to the right reveals a music player.
What they have in common:
Processor: MT6752 Octacore 64bit, 1.7GHz . The phone is equally snappy and stable.
Dimensions: almost the same, with the Elephone being a bit bulkier and somewhat heavier by 10gr.
Thickness 44mm
Height 149.8mm
Width 77.1mm
Diag. (screen) 126mm
Weight 157gr
Finger print reader: The smaller finger print reader works fine. The secondary unlock method is alway a password. It would have been nice to revert to a pattern like the THL allows. The finger scanner can also be used to restrict access to chosen apps or to scroll up and down within any application. In the security department, the device encryption is available as well as a mobile anti-theft function
Screen gestures: while THL did not advertise it, it also has the same feature. It is located under the Accessibility menu. Using this function on either phone contributes in draining the battery faster.
GPS/Glonass: The compass tends to act a bit crazy (even after calibration) but this didn't seem to affect the GPS performance which is fast and accurate just like the THL.
Wi-Fi/USB/OTG: no bad surprise here, they perform as expected and the Wi-Fi reception is comparable to the THL.
Sound: Speakers and microphone provide a good audio quality. The speaker is loud enough once the BesLoudness option (volume booster for speaker) is enabled in the Audio Profiles menu.
Cameras:
The Elephone's main camera is a Sony Exmor and offers 13 mpx so the expectation is once again to retrieve something similar as in the THL 2015.
In broad daylight pictures are comparable to the THL.
It's a different story indoor where the P3000s struggles to focus and fails to deliver the same sharpness. It looks like the Sony sensor hasn't been combined with the lens it deserves. The resulting pictures are prone to glare and flare. The good news is that we're still light years ahead from an Omnivision camera!
The selfie side is 5 mpx. The face-unlock would often fail in poor lighting condition and has a too narrow field of view which is probably down to the firmware settings because, for the rest, this camera performs like the THL 2015.
The differences:
RAM: 3GB (THL: 2GB): 1 extra GB with a fast processor potentially helps unleashing the phone performance. In reality it is not easy to measure but the heaviest games will certainly not complain.
More Battery: 3150 mAh (THL: 2700 mAh): This gives a correct autonomy for a day of mixed use but not that much compared to the THL really.
Rooted from factory: There's no bloatware within the Android 4.4.4 installed and the phone comes rooted with SuperSU already installed. Great!
Display: 5", 1080 x 1920 px, 440 ppi with DragonTail glass (scratch resistant) and 5 points touch screen which is appropriate for that screen size.
The important difference is in the display quality. No need to use a backlight bleed test app to see the difference. On the left in the picture below: the Elephone and the THL 2015 on the right.
It is crucial to run the Als_ps calibration (proximity sensor) in order to keep the auto-brightness from making it even worse.
The MiraVision options can help but also can make things worse if you push the contrast or select the Vivid mode. In any cases it would never match the THL which has excellent contrast and stunning colors naturally.
NFC?
This is where I understood the real meaning of Elephone's motto: Keep expecting and be surprised
It's a simple trick which works as follow:
Keep expecting...the NFC function...
Be surprised... there's no NFC for the lucky first 100,000 customers!
A discrete notification appeared on their web site once most people had confirmed their pre-order:
P3000S
Published: 2015-04-13 Views: 1379
Dear customers:
Don't you think you're paying too much for 3GB RAM smartphones? Take a look at P3000S 3GB version. It's as powerful as those 3GB RAM flagships on the market. It's powered by 64bit MTK6752 Octa core processor and the most advanced GPU of Mali-T760.
The phone packs other high performance hardware such as 13MP Sony camera and JDI FHD display. It also supports fingerprint ID, FOTA update.
The phone ought to support NFC, but considering that NFC don't have popularity in most of the countries and lower the cost by 5 dollars. We have taken NFC out for the first batch of P3000s. 100.000 pieces of P3000S were sent out in April don't support NFC function. However, if you think you probably need NFC function, we have the next batch of P3000S which packs NFC for you.
[Sarcastic mode ON]...so, yes, no big deal, you probably didn't want NFC anyway, and if you did, just buy it once more... [Sarcastic mode OFF]
The same trick was used for the previous Quad-Core release of the P3000S in 2015.
Keep expecting...a Sony camera
Be Surprised...As you know, Elephone P3000s should pack Sony camera sensor. However, we'd like to inform you that some of P3000s use OmniVision sensor instead.
Other thoughts:
On the performance side, the Elephone P3000S-6752 is on par with the THL 2015, as expected since they're both built on the MTK6752.
Generally the Elephone tends to produce less heat than the THL.
Engineering mode: *#*#3646633#*#*
Test mode: *#*#33#*#*
Conclusion:
The P3000s-6752 is a lower cost version of the THL 2015 but fails to qualify as a THL-killer due to its lower quality in most departments: design, ergonomic, compass, display, but also the camera, ...
It does however perform perfectly and delivers the great performance of the solid MTK 6752. So this is absolutely not a bad phone as such, and currently for 161€/175$ (vs 220€/240$ for the THL) @ Gearbest.com, it is certainly good bang for the bucks.
My real concern is about Elephone themselves:
Elephone is playing a dangerous game with its announcement effects and false promises.
For the second time in a year, they fooled their customers, and not just a few, by changing the advertised specification, in particular during some pre-sale deal!
As a result, it is difficult to trust that brand and buy with confidence. So the lesson learned here with Elephone is: don't be the first to buy! Don't rush for their latest P7000 yet, wait to see if they won't remove the touch screen or the microphone this time...who knows!?
At time of writing (15/05/2015), there are still many P3000S from batch #1 on sale, so if you need the NFC function, ask the seller to confirm before buying!

[Review] BLUBOO X550 5,5" Android 5.1 Lollipop, LTE, 5300mAh battery - IceTea7

Hello,
here is my review of the new BLUBOO X550 in color black. The original review is written in German language (my native language) and you can find it here: http://www.chinamobiles.org/threads/testbericht-bluboo-x550-mit-5300mah-akku-android-5-1-lollipop-lte-von-icetea7.45297/.

Unboxing: What’s in the box?
I have received the device very well packed in an air bubble mailer. Next to the packaging there was a free silicon case in color brown.
The black boxing of the phones is made out of high quality and big cardboard. “BLUBOO Beyond Your Life!” is written on top of the box and on the other side you can find a sticker with the specifications of the X550.
If you open the packaging you will find the device, a screen-saver and a user manual. And there are two boxes. One contains the USB-cable and the other one two chargers. One is labeled with “Fast Charging” but both look exactly the same and there are no differences in size.

Casing & Build Quality
At the beginning I was a bit surprised because I thought that a 5,5“ smartphone with a 5300mAh battery would be much thicker, heavier and wouldn’t lay good in the hand but Bluboo showed me that it can work. The whole body is made out of plastic and the display front panel is outlined by a chromed frame that looks good in combination to the black front.
Above the 5,5“ screen you can find the earpiece in the middle, the sensors on the right and a little notification LED and the front camera on the left.
Underneath the display are the three touch buttons (back, home, return). They aren’t lighted and the symbols are only printed in silver.
If you look at the backside you will find the 8MP and a LED besides it. The lens is a bit overhanging. In the middle you can find the silver Bluboo logo and at the bottom there are two grids for the loudspeaker but you will only hear sound out of the right one. Above are some other signs like a CE logo and others. The back of the device is rounded at the edges and that is the reason why it lays good in the hand.
On the right side of the X550 you can find the volume control and the power on/off button.
The left side is clean. There are no keys or something else.
The 3,5mm headphones jack together with the Micro-USB port are positioned on the upper surface of the device.
In the end you will find the microphone in the left corner of the bottom and a small notch for an easy removal of the battery cover.
If you take off the battery cover you will directly see the huge battery in the middle, two simcard and one microSD card slot, the loudspeaker and the main camera with LED.
All in all the build quality is good, there are no loose parts and nothing creaks.

Display / Touchscreen / Multitouch
The used 5,5” 1280x720 OGS IPS HD-Display looks good, I can’t see any pixels and the colors are natural. It is possible to change color rendering in the settings (“Mira Vision”). The viewing angle is stable and watching YouTube videos makes a lot of fun. You can adjust the brightness very high and this is why there should be no problem using this phone in sunlight. The automatic brightness adjustment also works well and reacts fast on changing ambient light conditions. So far there have been no ghost-touches or something like that. The touchscreen is very snappy and precise. Finally I have to say that it is a five point multitouch screen.
Processor & Storage
The Bluboo X550 has the MTK6735P quadcore processor with a Mali-T720 GPU and 2GB Ram and 16GB Rom built-in.
The 1GHz processors seems weak in the product data sheet but works pretty well. There are no lags and the sytem runs very smoothly and Apps start quickly. The only problem are graphic intense games. “Asphalt 8” and “Rayman Fiesta Run” were no problem but games like “N.O.V.A 3” or “Gangstar Vegas”. Of course more simple games like “Angry Birds” or “Candy Crush” are playable. 2Gb RAM are enough space to run various apps at the same time. For example it is possible to hear music in the background and to surf on the internet at the same time.
The phone has 16Gb of internal storage. You can expand it with a micro SDcard with up to 64Gb. I have tested a 64Gb microSD card from Sandisc and it worked like a charm. Furthermore you can connect an OTG-cable to move or to access data on it.

Firmware
I have received the X550 with a stock Android version of Android 5.1 Lollipop. There is no special launcher or something like that preinstalled by Bluboo. Everything runs very smooth and everything works directly after the first boot. There are no Chinese Apps preinstalled but on the other hand all Google Apps just like Google+, Google Maps and of course the Google PlayStore. So you are able to install all your favorite Apps and games.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B233-Yi0ZAZVfkZyN3RTbUE0RzBJTWN0N0VoUjZjU21NQVdobFBxa0Z6SGZnSFZMUi1sODg
Two helpful Apps were preinstalled. On the one hand it is the App „Direct“ and on the other hand it’s „Smart Wake“. With Smart Wake you can choose a gesture to wake up the device from standby mode or to start an App. This could for example be “DoubleTap” to unlock the X550 or “SlideUp” to start/open the browser. Of course you can choose the gestures by your own. The App „Direct“ is an addition to that where you for example can take a picture when you put your hand in front of the proximity sensor while you have opened the camera App. HotKnot is supported, too.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B233-Yi0ZAZVfmxCakI4amtsOFJUajItdTZZMUZFQkhmTXNqaEY5ZU96UXEycUJ2UHdoZHM
Out of the box a there are lot of languages supported just like English, German,... .
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B233-Yi0ZAZVflNMZUM4cjdzU1FfU1FKcEFvTVRpMGZjbHRpcjlhdG45Q0QzWXVtd3RCbms
Root
It’s possible to root the device with KingRoot 4.1.
2G / 3G / 4G
The X550 supports DualSim with DualStandby and 4G LTE. The reception is good and without any abortions.
Attention: SimSlot2 only supports 2G! You can only use 3G and 4G LTE in SimSlot1. But of course you can make calls or write sms with both Simcards.

Sensors
To see the supported/build in sensors please check the following GoogleDrive link:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B233-Yi0ZAZVflJXQVVJUFhPWjgwWkpFQkR6VFluWm5KTzdmaVY3SVRKTXhDV01OWkFQQ2s
WLAN
The WLAN reception/range is very good and comparable to the ZTE Blade S6 Plus.
Bluetooth
The Bluetooth range is very long, too. I have tested it with several phones and Bluetooth speaker.
Compass
The X550 doesn’t support a compass.
Notification LED
The notification LED is next to the frontcamera on the left side. It’s very small and only glows in color red.
GPS
GPS is ok but devinitely not the best.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B233-Yi0ZAZVfmpHSG5YTTRzRXF4TW5uSC1FSHlWSnR3d0FhcDJOWnVqSEpBSkk5ZGhqZ1k
Audio
The sound quality is good and phone calls are clear as well on both sides of the line. It is possible to raise the volume very high but the sound isn’t that great. It’s good enough for some short YouTube videos or other short clips but I would suggest to use earphones/headphones or Bluetooth speakers.
Attention: My device always reboots/freezes after a short time if it is connected to a computer speaker via AUX-cable. I have tested different speakers but the result was always the same. There are no problems with Bluetooth speakers. The reason could be the external power supply of the speaker.
Battery
The battery of the BLUBOO X550 is built-in and advertised with a capacity of 5300mAh. BLUBOO claims that the X550 can last about four days of normal usage and 30 days in standby mode with only one single charge.
I have charged the battery to 100% and used it as my daily driver. With two simcards, WLAN always on, downloading apps, running benchmark tests, playing some games, surfing the internet, synchronizing several e-mail accounts and using diverse messenger the result was a screen-on time of 11h24min. This is in my eyes a very good result. So you should easily come over the day with one charge. But as always it really depends on the user behaviour.

I think it is a nice idea to use the X550 with an OTG-cable as powerbank but in combination with my Gionee Elife E7 and my Meizu MX4 I wasn’t able to charge one of these devices. So, it is a nice idea but it doesn’t work properly in my case. I have tried it with a powered off Gionee but the only result was a bootloop. I have tried a different OTG-cable for sure. On my MX4 it says that the MX4 is loading but after 15min there was still no change in battery percentage.
I have tried „Fast Charging“ with the fast charging adapter but the results weren’t like advertised. Bluboo says that it only takes 60min for 75% (3975mAh) respectively 40min for 50% (2650mAh).
These are my results:
- after 40min: 25%
- after 60min: 37%
0-100%: 3h38min
With Geekbench 3 Battery Test the result was over 15h (Wlan off and without simcards). I can’t tel the exact time because there has been an error while trying to upload the score. The last time I have checked the percentage was after 15h20min with 8% battery left. So I think the final result was approximately 16h.
Cameras
The front camera has 2MP and is good enough for some selfies or video chatting.
The main camera on the back has 8MP and isn’t that great but please decide on your own and check out my pictures.
As always all the pictures were made by me with the standard settings and the preinstalled camera app.

Radio
The integrated radio works pretty well and supports RDS. To be able to use the radio you have to plug in some earphones/headphones.

Conclusion
The Bluboo X550 is a nice 5,5“ smartphone with a huge battery that lasts very long. The device is directly ready after unpacking with preinstalled multilanguage firmware and all Google Apps. I really like that there are no Chinese Apps and no special launcher. Android 5.1 Lollipop runs great and with it you should be up to date for the next few months. The build quality is good but the whole device is made out of plastic. WLAN reception is very good but the GPS signal good definitely be better. In everyday life is the 1GHz processor enough but „Gamer“ should look for another device.
I don’t like that the whole battery advertising wasn’t true. I wasn’t able to charge the X550 in 40min to 50% and using the phone as sort of powerbank hasn’t worked properly either. Furthermore my phone always reboots/freezes if I connect it to some computer speaker.
So if you are searching for a 5,5” smartphone with a big battery that easily manages to last more than 10h screen-on time and don’t graphic intense games should definitely consider to buy this phone. But please don’t take the „Fast Charging“ to serious on this device because I couldn’t confirm all the promises.
Pro:
- very big battery
- nice display
- smooth operation
- very good WLAN reception
- Android 5.1 Lollipop with GoogleApps preinstalled out of the box
Neutral:
- price
- GPS
- camera
- no lighted touch buttons
- small notification LED that only glows in color red
Contra:
- weak processor (some games aren’t playable)
- I couldn’t confirm the advertised highlights of the battery and the fast charging
- the phone freezes/reboots if I connect it to speakers via AUX-cable
- only SIM-Slot1 supports 3G and 4G LTE
