Insufficient storage available error - General Questions and Answers

Anyone have any advice to fix the insufficient storage problem? I have tried everything and nothing fixes it, including clearing of cache.
Hi all,
I have a rooted phone and constantly keep storage and performance best I can using a number of apps like SD Maid, Rom toolbox, etc.
My problem is that while it is clear that that all storage from phone to external SD card have plenty of free space, I'm running into a problem when attempting to update certain apps such as games from the play store. They fail do to insufficient space.
Any suggestions as to the cause? The only info I can provide related to cause is that this seems to happen after I take HD videos with camera. However, those videos do indeed reside on external memory card which obviously has plenty of space just like both other storage options.
Any help is appreciated.

"Insufficient space" is a general error that is displayed when a write fails.
This can mean not enough space, but also failure due to existing files or wrong permission.

There is plenty of space. I also have booted into recovery and fixed permissions several times but has not solved the issue. It is only happening with a handful of apps.
Any suggestions?

Insufficient Space

I know this is a common issue, as I've read every post I can get my hands on, but none of the proposed solutions that I've attempted have resolved my issue.
I recently rooted my VZW S3, using CyanogenMod (10.0.0-d2vzw), so I'm at Android 4.1.2. When attempting to download/install app updates, I'd always get hit with the insufficient space available error...so I found a resolution that suggested using Lucky Patcher to fix this. This worked for about a week.
I didn't have many apps loaded onto the phone (GMail, Maps, Evernote, Dropbox, Twitter, USAToday) as well as photos saved onto the internal memory. So I deleted some of the apps in hopes of freeing up space, and I copied my photos over to my external SD card, have cleared every cache (Google Play, davlik, etc.), cleared out the 0 folder, cleared away blobs, and still now luck.
I even attempted to start from scratch by reinstalling the ROM and Google apps, but still the same issue.
Even now when viewing my storage settings, they currently are:
Internal: Total, 12.05gb
Apps: 282MB
Available: 3.73gb
External (SD card): Total, 14.93GB
Available: 10.1GB
Obviously something doesn't make sense and I find it hard to believe that the ROM is taking up almost 8gb of internal SD.
I'm at a complete loss as to what to do and my phone has become of little use.
Any and all help you can provide is greatly appreciated....even if its to completely erase everything and start from nothing. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried formatting your /system partition before reflashing CM?
You might have to format internal memory.

[Q] Internal Storage Problems

Right now, it seems as though my main internal storage is full, whereas my 2nd partition ("SD Card") has free space. Every time I try to install an app, it tries to install it to my main internal storage, and thus it gives me an "insufficient storage" error. I used to be able to go into an app on the Apps area of Settings, and attempt to move the app to or from the "SD Card". IIRC, at some point Android decided to drop the idea of having two partitions for internal storage, and now doesn't allow for that type of movement between partitions. The problem is, now I can't seem to install any new apps unless I uninstall my old ones.
Is there any way I can selectively install apps to my "SD Card"? Also, is there any easy way to simply combine my storage? I don't see the point in having it separated out.
I'm running Paranoid Android 4.44. Thanks in advance.
Kitkat removed the ability to move apps to the SD card for whatever reason. There's a couple patches that allegedly fix this issue in the play store but I've tried most of them and haven't gotten it to work. I also can't find a way to merge the internal storage and SD card partitions. I would ask the developer of link2sd for more help on this.
Like @Cryptecks said there comes a point in time where the older devices start to show their limits and unfortunately this is one of them. Sorry...
Ugh. Well thanks at least for the response. It seems pretty silly that this is an issue. I guess i'll see what I can find patching wise, but man, this is gonna be annoying. My main partition is only 2 GB or so
same here, 2.34 GB on my main apps partition which also houses cached data. CM11 will allow me to move some data from certain apps to the virtual sdcard partition that is there with 10 GB and 8 GB FREE SPACE!
merging partitions in ms windows is so easy, why is android so lame with this? I might have to get a new phone

[Q] false 'insufficient memory' error

I have a rooted E8 dual sim (M8sw) running stock rom with Ancient Dust SchKernel, and I've just recently started getting the "app not installed" notification when trying to install certain apps. This appears to be because the app thinks I have insufficient storage despite the fact that I have over 8gb free on internal storage and some 33gb free on external sd card.
I suspect size isn't the real problem here since larger apps install fine, just random apps like the odd xposed module or tiny apk (including some I'd previously installed with no problems, uninstalled and tried installing again just to test). For instance, NextApp's SDFix previously installed perfectly, and I uninstalled it after running it. Just for testing purposes, I tried to install it again from Google Play and got the message that it couldn't install on usb storage or sd card. Yet another app which was much larger installed with no problems.
I've tried clearing the cache, running Lucky Patcher to remove unused odex files, and checking /data/app-lib/ for stuff that may have been left behind by uninstalled apps. No luck so far. The apps that refuse to install appear to be random and I can't figure out what the common cause is.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with apps not installing allegedly because of insufficient storage, even though they clearly have plenty of storage space?

device internal storage issue - hudl

Hello,
This is my first ever post here. I stumbled across this website when looking for a solution to the Kitkat 4.4 SD card issue, and it seems like the best place for advice on Hudl2 issues.
I got my Hudl2 for christmas, It had 9GB internal storage, but with a few apps on it that went to 8GB free space.
I have found that watching Programs on 4OD app, streaming them NOT downloading them is taking up space on my internal storage and my Hudl quickly started saying the internal storage was low.
Looking on the Setting-> Storage it showed a total of 1GB of apps installed, but ONLY 500kb free space and doesn't display any large files that could be the cause.
Anyone having similar issues, and know how to fix this problem? - the only fix i have found is a factory reset to free up the space until its full again.
Many thanks

Maybe clearing the cache could help you.
Go to Setting->Apps and click on the apps like the one you stream (4OD) to open App Info.
Clear the cache of the app there.
(You might be able to free up a hell lot of data)

When checking the cache it had 2mb there... Cleared that and the app data too. No luck there. It seems like a factory reset is the only option... But not a good one!!
Try CCCleaner or Clean Master! Not sure if you can download/install the APP from Store though!
(Due to not enough space for download/install?)
