hi , i wanna know if its possible use towelroot in the android lolipop, i wanna root my sheild tablet without void warranty... if someone know any program like this for i root my shield tell me please
thank you
Diogo.
No.
My understanding is Towelroot uses an exploit in Android 4.4.2 and below (certain kernel versions to be exact) to gain root. The exploit was patched in 4.4.3 and newer.
SuperSU 2.27 Beta seems to be the solution, but may be risky.

but the new supersu root the device?
and why do u say can be risky?
According to Chainfire, SuperSU 2.27 is very invasive and might cause bootloops - see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2868133
However, read the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2945044 - I've just updated from a rooted KK to Lollipop and successfully got root using SuperSU 2.27 without any issues thus far.

Geohot has found a vulnerability in the New ATT/VERIZON S5 and confirmed by users it works on our i337 ATT NC1 FIRMWARE ONLY. Check out his thread HERE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783157
I am ONLY relaying his great work here and have NOTHING to do with it. I just try to keep up with a few other phones when I think I may upgrade to. So I brought this here in case others were not following the Verizon/ATT S5 forums.

For this towelroot to work on the ATT S4 you need to be on NC1 firmware. It does not seem to work on MK2 or NB1.

I've been wondering if this will work for our phones on newer firmwares as well.

It's about to go live. Anyone going to try it on a stock unrooted nb1 or nc1?
Just did nc1!!!!!!!!!

Yes it works, you must download supersu or superuser from playstore yourself as it does not install it for you, also super su will fail to updat binarys, however root still works...I have already been able to modify my build.prop using es file explorer

Not sure about safestrap...but definitely not twrp, twrp requires a bootloader exploit, this js just a root exploit...I would assume we are back in the same situation as mk2...root but no recovery except maybe safestrap...im not home at the moment so im not gonna risk softbricking my phone with safestrap

Safestrap just requires root, and since it works on 4.4.2 bootloader and such already then the process is now just root and Safestrap to get 4.4.2 ROMs.

Does this trip Knox flags?

I couldn't get it to work on NB1, but upgraded to NC1 and it worked fine. Safestrap however, is not installing. I tried pushing it to /system/app & /priv/app and setting permissions. It says it installs, but system status says it's not installed.
So after this, what is the new method of odining to stock, root, and recovery? Odin flash nc1> towel > safe strap?

Does this mean I can finally take the Ota updates and stop using mk2???!?

Now that i am rooted with kitkat on 19.6.3 i am wondering if i can use gravity box and xposed without having an unlocked bootloader. I have seen people use it but i just want to make sure. It says that when you flash it, it can mess up your phone so if somebody could tell me if they use it and might can and the link it would be very appreciated. I just dont want to brick my phone.
Both are working fine for me.

Do you have unlocked boot loader or anything special? Are you rooted with w/p off and on 19.6.3
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Free mobile app
Nope, did the jcase root and made permanent with wpnomo. Flashed super su with safestrap. Took OTA to 19.6.3. Then installed Xposed as normal. I have a locked bootloader (unfortunately) and did nothing else.

Okay I was just trying to find somebody that has done it because when you go to install xposed framework it says it could mess up your device but clearly it didn't mess up yours at all?

Try baidu root. Or Framaroot. Or Rootmaster. Or search for more rooting applications applicable for your device. Basically those are the easiest way yet of rooting most of android devices.

Then try flashing SU.zip via stock recovery (if your phone has it).
Currently running root on 5.01 however wanted to upgrade to 5.1.1 root as I've heard its has much better performance, first question is do I need to unroot and upgrade via ota update then root or can I go straight to rooted 5.1.1? Second question is whether one of the people working on the root could upload a separate thread with detailed instructions of how to root as I find it almost impossible to navigate my way through the development thread, sorry if this seems demanding.
Thanks for the help!

Unfortunatley no, think of the bootloader like the UEFI/BIOS (Not exactly the same but for this explanation) on a PC. The device needs the ASUS specific bootloader to ensure the hardware functions in the OS, A GRUB bootloader would not be able to do this and the device would be "bricked" due to the different standards of the bootloaders and the GRUB bootloader not being device specific. An alternative to your idea would be to install a version of Ubuntu on your device using the thread here as this will use bootloaders and software specific to your device to load up the Ubuntu operating system. I hope I could help you re-purpose your tablet and good luck
