I have an order placed for the Moto G, but now have the opportunity to get a brand new Galaxy S3 for $200 off-contract. Specs wise the phones are very similar; with the S3 having a bigger (AMOLED) screen, SD support, and a plethora of accessories & ROMs. This along with a removable battery & better camera have me leaning towards the S3.
Do any Moto G owners currently have an S3? If so could I get an opinion on whether its worth cancelling my order & purchasing the older phone.
Get both and then sell the one you don't want. Specs wise the S3 wins but the moto G seems to ignore that factor.

i would say s3 has better camera but that is about it.
moto g is snappy and has great batterylife and screen. also moto g will get 4.4 in january so my guess is that it will also get the next version of android.
I had an s3 for about one year and sold it as soon I got the Moto g.
The s3 is a nice phone but the battery use to drain fast sometimes and have a lot of software issues. Also, even with cyanogenmod it freezes sometimes. The screen is bigger but not that much and in comparison with the moto g it looses in brightness.
GPS and Google now consumes a LOT of battery on the s3 while in moto g they barelly appear in the battery graphics consumption. Also, the moto g have a better design and feels great in hand, while the s3 is kinda ungly and you will need to use it with both hand in lots of situations.
I'm in love with my moto g and selling my s3 to buy it was one of the best choices I made. It runs android flawless!!!

I have both phones, both on stock ROM. The S3 is getting more and more laggy.
Pro S3: Slimmer, less weight, slightly bigger screen, better camera
Pro MG: Blazing fast, feels more sturdy, Kitkat in '14, no balderdash, great battery life
If it wasn't for NFC & removable SD support I'd ditch my S3 right away.
Get the Moto G. Pure Android is great... Just got mine yesterday and i'm loving it.. Feel much better in my hands than my nexus4.

I've had an S3 and currently have a Moto G. I'd definitely say the Moto G, it's faster/smoother, better screen, better battery life etc. IMO of course
Get the Galaxy s3. More capable and better resale value.
Assuming the Galaxy s3 is legit and won't get blacklisted.

That and the glass back are the two things i hated about the n4. It felt like it just did not belong in my hand.

I'll make the story short and brief..I purchased a S3 for 240 CDN and havent picked it up yet
However I can still get the Moto G for 65 CDN should I want to..its apart of a carrier deal + gift card redemption
The only true differences (to me anyway) is camera and memory
1) Never cared for a phone on a camera
2) There are smaller external options to increase memory
Another problem is build...and by touching the dummy products, the Moto G feels alot stronger...Samsung cellphones r amazing but I cant stand the overall build..I've seen too many broken S3 screens
Any comments would be most appreciated..I'm upgrading from an iPhone 3G btw...

I know quadrant isn't exactly perfect, but I was pretty surprised. Mysisters stock moto g vs my custom ROM Canadian s3.

Hi, unfortunately I can't see the difference from these pictures.
I have the choice between buying a used S3 or a new Moto G for the same price, and the camera quality is important for me. I would like to get at least the quality that I had with my (broken) Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
Is the difference really that noticeable ? thx

Hi All
I currently have (HAD: to give it away) a Motorola RAZR i with Intel Inside.
I love the phone, its fast, i like that i has NFC and i like that it has a slot for MicroSD.
I understand that the NFC and the MicroSD is not available on the Moto G.
However i like the fact that the Moto G will have KitKat.
I bought the Razr i for 130 pounds, now i can not buy it again for that price, i only find it for 200.
So my option is buy a Moto G or spend 50 more and buy the RAZRi again.
Cant make my mind up Help?

But do you have a chance to somehow test the moto g (friend, in a store?). I think that wouls be the best for you to experience which phone you prefer.
Generally to say, I love the battery life, speed, everything about the moto g (also have a n4 and n5). The camera is okay.
And I don't need more than 16gb at all so I don't care about the lack of sdcard slot.

I must agree, love Moto G smoothness, love that motorla support for this phone, love that battery and I also don't need SD slot.
I had Razr (not Razr i) and it was little laggy. And that battery there, I hate it. The good thing is I bought one year old Razr for 140€ and 6 months later I traded it to almost new Moto G (that costs 199€) so I wins with Moto G
One thing I miss is camera. Yes, it doesn't make the best pictures, but it does take some pictures when you need and thats okay.
Moto G will learn you that even the small things can do big miracles
Had (have) the RARZi and bought Moto G just for curiosity, I never switched RZi on again besides for some camera comparisons, in which MG won massively in low light.
Performance wise it is black and white: The Intel Atom is very snappy, databases (SMS) open up slightly faster on RZi than on MG, but the overall performance goes to MG. Battery runtime is about the same, 2-3 days is easy.
Personally I like the AMOLED of RZi, but I got used to LCD in 2 days and now I really enjoy that fabulous display on MG. Brighter, sharper, sunlight readable. WIFI and GPS works hands down better on MG.
In palm of the hand the RZi is edgy and sharp, MG soft and smooth, I like that. Never missed the SD card (I hated it on RZi, because I always searched my files on the wrong place, internal, external, blah), same for NFC - I don't use it. Sound quality is Motorola like very good on both phones.
If I must buy a new phone right now: Moto G, no doubt.
That is my subjective opinion but I hope this helps.

Think I am gonna switch to razr I. I love amoled screens . I miss NFC and need a decent camera for daylight shots. Moto G one just doesn't cut it for me. Great phone though

Did it even get JB, it is old tech now really, my wife had one, it was alright, but I'd go moto G personally.
I have a Razr i and i really loved it since the first day of use, but, I will switch from it to Moto G this next week.
I checked this phone on some stores and friends, the speed is amazing. Fantastic speed, no lags, LCD is really nice and I think it is much better than my Razr's amoled (question of personal opinion).
So, I would go for Moto G.

I loved the RAZR i, I had one 1 year ago and it was fast, unfortunately it lacked dev support and its stuck with Android 4.1.2, but it was a great phone, the lags were very rare, just... it lacked the Moto Love...

I have a Nexus 4, REALLY like this phone but battery life is horrible. I've tried to underclock, undervolt, flash diferents roms and kernels but nothing works.
Moto G and Nexus 4 have similar prices in Brazil, but i dont care about the superior processor and GPU on N4, for me the main things are screen quality and battery.
So i need to know, is there a noticeable diference between N4 and G battery life? And most important, screen on time?
And how about the display quality, brightness, contrast ? Is the panel on the G superior to N4's one?

I've actually just made the switch from Nexus 4 to Moto G. The screen to me seems better than the Nexus 4. Deeper colours, and no backlight bleed. Speed wise for most apps is near identical. You'd only actually notice the difference side by side most of the time.
As with you, I made the move for battery life, and so far, it's looking better so far. I'm still using my Nexus 4 as my work phone, and it sometimes drains faster than my Moto G, even though I'm not using it.
What's your average SOT ? 3,5 hours is a very good result for me on my N4
I had the Nexus 4 and now have the Moto G and IMO the screen on the Moto G is better, the Moto G processor is better and it doesn't slide off everything you put it on ☺
The only thing I feel the Nexus 4 had better was the camera, and that wasn't very stellar anyway. Oh and the GPU was better, but you won't notice a difference.
Yes the S4 Pro in the Nexus 4 was top end when it came out but the Snapdragon 400 in the moto g is the newer SOC so performs better anyway, I get better benchmarks from the Moto G than I got from my nexus 4 (GPU scores aside)
The moto g also feels way smoother in the UI than my nexus 4 ever did, something just wasn't quite right with the Nexus 4. The moto g is the superior handset.

Completely agree with this.
I have had a Nexus 4 for almost a year and recently received a Moto G. Before hand, I thought the Moto G would be inferior to the Nexus in every conceivable way, but I am pleasantly surprised.
The battery life is better and screen time is approximately an hour or so longer (though this varies, of course). The quality of the display is remarkable for a device that costs so little and the performance of it is good enough for even the most demanding of apps.
What's surprised me the most, however, is the camera, which produces more than acceptable pictures but is fractionally slower than the Nexus when it comes to capturing them.
Otherwise, brilliant phone and if I had neither, I would get the Moto G over the Nexus 4 in a heartbeat.
As far as I know, the only real advantage with the Nexus 4 is the Adreno 320 GPU, but if you're not the type to play bleeding-edge 3D games, then the Moto G makes perfect sense as an alternative.
I see in this forum that many people moved from a N4
I've moved from the nexus 4 to the moto g and I love it, battery is so much better.

I have a friend who would give a stomach pain to read this thread. I think by cost benefit the Moto G is better.
I have the Nexus and my girlfriend the Moto.
I prefer the screen of the Moto, the battery life is great and the performance matches that of the Nexus, at least in normal operation. I didn't try any heavy graphics games, but due to the different GPU I believe the Nexus has the edge there.
Anyway, when I got her the Moto I had a gigantic urge to buy one for myself, it's that good!

I consider this the "Nexus 4 Lite"; not quite as powerful, but priced in a way that doesn't make it look silly in comparison.

I have both. N4 as the primary and Moto G as the back up. I love both.
Screen wise, the display on Moto G is better. Battery life on Moto G is much better. Ergonomics on the G is also better.
N4 has better camera. Moto G camera is acceptable when there is sufficient light; however, it is atrocious under low light condition.
Both are very fast with N4 being slightly faster. It seems Moto G is more suitable to you.

The N4 camera is better. I don't know that much else is. Performance is a wash. The Moto G has a better screen, better battery and better speaker.

Specs are pretty similar, even in some parameters the Galaxy Nexus is better (AMOLED vs LCD, thickness, camera)

I think its a better move overall. Motorola is doing some great stuffs lately. They even beats Google in terms of pushing the updates quickly. Galaxy Nexus's software support was dropped by Google but it still have the community support. I saw many people even moved from Nexus 4 to Moto G.
But from hardware perspective Moto G is bit behind them. Many touchscreen issues are popping up and returned for replacement. G's touchscreen is easy to get broken than any flagship or Nexus phones even though it has Gorilla Glass 3. You got to think twice in the hardware department.
Yeah I upgraded, not looked back.

To me it feels it was , I got to the point where I despised my gnex.
I've not heard or even experienced these screen issues can't comment on it.
If the moto g had a better camera it'd be even better.
All depends want you want out of your phone really. Battery life and affordability was key key for me.
Not once have I wanted my gnez back tbh

That was my dilemma before making my purchase. But the Nexus 5 is notorious for sub par battery life, poor screen viewing angles and contrast. Moto G doesn't have any of those issues and for the price it was a no brainer for me.

I had the same decision problem. It was between the Nexus 5 and the MotoG. It came down to a few factors for me: 1)The spec bump and screen size were not drastic enough for me to justify the price difference. 2)The screen size on the Nexus 5 was a drawback. I have small hands, and my assumption was that the smaller screen size combined with the rounded form factor would make the MotoG easier to hold and manipulate. 3)The poor battery life on the Nexus 5 compared to thte superior life on the MotoG.
All of those things led me to choose the MotoG over the Nexus 5, and I've been 100% pleased. I have had absolutely no issues with the touchscreen which is always accurate and responsible. The software (KK w/GEL) is buttery smooth -- I have experienced absolutely no lag from the OS in any shape, form, or fashion. Regardless of the specs, it actually operates like a high end device. Having said that, more graphic/cpu intensive games will lag to some degree but I'm not a big Android gamer -- casual games are fine by me.
The screen on the MotoG is perfectly calibrated. I've heard some G's have a pinkish tint, but I have not experienced that. My guess is that they use two different screen vendors, so it may be a roll of the device; however, even the pink tinted screens are still supposedly excellent.
Battery life has been phenomenal.
Unlocking the bootloader and rooting was a piece of cake.
The only big complaint is the camera, but I carry around my Sony NEX-5R most places I go so that's not a huge deal for me.
Overall, this is one of the best phones I've ever owned. The "flagship" phones I've had in the past were always something of a disappointment. I never liked Sense, TouchWiz, etc. which adversely affected performance to the point that it never really felt like I actually had a high-end device. That always led me to root and flash a custom ROM, but I shouldn't have had to do that in order to get a nice user experience.
The MotoG is fantastic. I give it an A+ when you consider its price in relation to its features and usability.
I ended up upgrading to the nexus 5 from a galaxy nexus, but I simultaneously got a moto g for my girlfriend, so I've had a great way of comparing the 2.
The nexus 5 is obviously the better device(no doubt about it), and the battery problems are non existent(at least on my unit, I get very consistent battery life in terms of screen on time at around 4,5 hours). It's definitely one of the best devices on the market and at a fair price much below the immediate competition.
The moto g is obviously a mid range device in comparison, but it is a lot more capable than most other phones on the market and is all around a great phone(definitely worth the cheap upgrade from a galaxy nexus). In direct comparison with the nexus 5 it has a slightly worse camera(the nexus 5 camera is not top notch either though) and slightly better battery life in my experience.
Software vise they are very similar, and since a gpe moto g has been released, they can both expect timely updates.
All in all they are both worth the upgrade from the galaxy nexus(though I had kept it for another year, if I hadn't dropped it and cracked the screen). It comes down to how you use the phone(camera and gaming performance etc.), and your preference in screen size, and price. you get great value for the money with both compared to any other smartphone, though a little more value for money with the moto g.
I've got both, on Verizon though. My typical phone is a Galaxy S4, but my gf broke her GS4, so she stole mine in the meantime. My old backup phone was a Galaxy Nexus, and my current phone is the Moto G. All that said, here's my take.
Moto G Pros:
- Cheap
- Better battery life than Galaxy Nexus
- More responsive
- Feels better in hand & pocket
- Feels sturdier
- Moderately better camera
Moto G Cons:
- Locked bootloader on Verizon (no root or roms)
- No LTE
- Only comes with 8GB storage, with 5.5 usable
- No 802.11 5GHz support
- No BT 4.0 LE (has BT 4.0)
- No KitKat
- No tethering support (I pay for metered data too!, currently using FoxFi USB)

Please reread my post. Yes I'm talking about the Verizon variant, XT1028. Yes I know the GSM has a 16gb option, even a GPE. I wish I that was a viable choice, but I have a tendency of working in the barren deserts of California. Somehow Verizon's EVDO/LTE coverage out there is sufficently reliable.
Also, I said the "Better battery life than Galaxy Nexus", as a "Moto G Pro" and not a Con.
I really like the Moto G. It's just very limited. I would say its very similar to the experience of using an iPhone 4. Fixed & limited storage, snappy for the OS at the time, nice to hold and use. But there are better options out there.
I upgraded from a Nexus 4 and I'm very happy: battery life is awesome and the phone is still smooth, Moto G display is way better than the Galaxy Nexus one (I owned a Galaxy Nexus)

I am using Galaxy Nexus with CM11 M11 at the moment. Is it worthy to upgrade to Moto G 2014? How much faster do you guys feel when upgrading from GaNex to Moto G 2014 in term of a normal user: Maps, GPS, Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, photo taking - NO gaming.
Is 1GB of RAM giving you lagging when switching between apps? Is Nexus 5 more worthy for the upgrade rather than Moto G 2014?

The Moto G is worth it, my dad has a Gnexus and my Moto G is much faster. However, the camera is bad

Go for a nexus 5 if you can get it cheap. The moto g is all fine but its camera...not so. If you plan on keeping your phone for a bit longer, go for the nexus 5

Hey, both of you guys are complaining about the camera of this Moto G. Is that the Moto G 2014 you're talking about? I see the photos taken by Moto G 2014 look pretty nice - some even says it's even comparable with Nexus 5 camera.

definitely talking about the 2013 Moto G. Can't say much about the 2014 because I don't own one. Again I stand with what I said earlier, in the long run the Nexus 5 will serve you better

Thanks for the confirmation. Btw, do you feel a lot of lag with your Moto G (the hardware is identical with Moto G 2014)? Like when browsing Internet then switching to either Maps, FB, Instagram or Camera, etc.
Like title say: Is it worth upgrading to Moto G 2015 from Nexus 4?
Definitely yes!! I just upgraded to Moto G like a month ago and I am loving it!! The screens resolution is smaller and its got a bigger screen so the quality is a bit worse. But I don't really see any huge difference in it. The camera is way better, and battery life is amazing!
The battery life would shock you. You will get 3-4x as much screen on time. I am not even exaggerating.
