"favorite apps" edge panels - Note Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There are two favorite app edge panels, one that lets you change its contents and one that doesnt. What the heck is the point of the one that doesnt? Or am I missing something?

Samsung in their infinite wisdom is once again shoving their crappy versions of apps down your face.
I don't even bother with that one. Sad really.

You're missing something...

There are 2 Favorite Edge Panels so that you can have up to two Favorite Edge Panels. The first is static and follows the same UI principle of a common dock on home screens. The second is for you to have fun with and if you so choose, provides you with a second row of favorite apps.
These aren't the 'crappy Samsung Apps' you're looking for. You can go about your business.

A common dock is typically editable and not static.

Could someone please tell me the name of this panel? The korean model calls it Live UX. I wanted to try the American one if I csn locate it.
Thanks.

The second panel isn't editable. It's made for the carrier stuff.
And another member said the panel was called cocktail and then and another one call fravs.

The technical name for the panel = Cocktail (per the SDK)
cocktail panels can work in either immersive mode or multi-tasking mode

Why is there so much wasted space between icons/widgets on homescreens?

Is there anyway to make better use of the real estate available on the homescreens? The current setup with so much space between icons/widgest seems like a colossal waste of the real estate the higher res N1 screen offers.
IMO, it also detracts from the aesthetic appearance of the homescreens. Especially coming from an iPhone.
I'm hoping this is a legacy issue, due to previous phones having lower res screens and google wil fix this.
So you want them closer together so you can't see your desktop? It's not a "legacy problem", that's how it has always been. There may be a home replacement that will do what you want though.
I think a major effect that seperates the iPhone and android ui is android's spacious desktop. I may be misunderstanding you but it sounds like you're asking why the android desktop isn't more like iphone's cookie cutter application squares, which are somewhat claustrophobic in my humble and often stupid opinion. I personally like the desktop feel of android. Feels like I've got a computer in my pocket...

Been using it a while on one screen you can potentially have 60 apps or so!!!
Mwhahahahahha.........
Because if you add more rows, and then rotate the phone, you will not have enough room without rearranging your home screens.
4 rows in landscape dictates the 4 rows in portrait mode.

But at the time of the phones launch and still, the home screens are portrait only unless you install the hacked mod.
Other android devices (droid/cliq/etc) support landscape views.
They're not doing seperate os's for seperate devices.

The aesthetic bit was just a secondary comment. I may well get used to liking the android layout as much, it may just be that i'm used to seeing the iPhone desgin/layout.
However, the bigger point for me was that I am unable to have anymore icons, despite the higher res screen. Which is particularly annoying when you can see all that space going to waste. It definately looks like another row would fit cofortably.
Only 5 home screens and limited folder functionality, make the problem worse for me.
Which brings me onto my second question, is there a simple app to skin folders and allow you arrange icons as you wish? If this were possible easily, I wouldn't need more homescreens. I don't want to use a new theme as I like the current one for now and would like to use it for a bit while I get used to the phone.

Ok, so the height and number of rows is fixed so that they can be mapped without any manipulation to landscape mode. Which from rough measurement appears to be the case.
I guess the issue is not so much with icons/shortcuts which can be easily rearranged as they are 1 x 1 units. But moreso with widgets which may not be rearrangeable with a simple rotation. I.E. You couldn't fit five 4 x 4 widgets in landscape without altering the widgets dimensions.
Guess the simplest ways around it would be to prevent rotation if you select more then the standard 4 rows. Or enable scrolling of the home screen in Landscape.
Anyway, thanks for enlightening me.

Try Apps Organizer.
so in another thread (which was closed and pointed here) similar to this, there was the following instructions
Edit /system/build.prop and change this line:
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
Try using 160 instead of 240. I don't think it allows you to fit more on the screen, but definitely changes the effective resolution.
which I used to increase the resolution of the system, it is BEAUTIFUL...but it doesnt map to well with the nexus tray, wondering is someone could point in me the right direction to get the tray to look better, maybe another value in build.prob that needs changing or....?
I would like to see a 5th row, is there an app for that ?

[Q] File-system Access/Ripping Apps

Has anyone got a method for accessing the file-system of a Focus? Or possibly have a method for ripping the built-in apps off the phone? I want to replace the default icons of some of the standard apps. Specifically i want to change the look of the Map icon to a map of my city. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Also, I modified some of the Homebrew App icons and splash screens to feel a little more Metro-ey. If this pisses someone off, please let me know and I'll remove them. I've done a few more that I didnt upload if anyone wants more.
good job!

1st party apps will be a problem I think and not possible on the samsung device so far I believe....
However for 3rd party apps its no problem. You can download the xaps with desktop marketplace dan than just drop the images in the xap. I did this with a few apps who had butt-ugly icons. I just cant stand the look of some of these icons especially not when they are trying to add 3d affects and shining stuff to it
I'm glad to know i'm not the only one. 3D icons don't always look good. Remember a few yers ago when everything had to be glass?
I never got into Pokemon, perhaps because I was a little too old when it came out, but there are two pokemons that I think are awesome. One is Snorlax and the other is your avatar. I won a large stuffed Polywhirl at a fair (my girlfriend at the time was a whiz at skee-ball). Thumbs up to you, sir.

I hate those 3d and shiny icons too. However (for the only program that I use, Wifi settings one) I would rather prefer a big "wireless signal" graph like the one near the wp7 clock that the complex but still better than the original, metro wifi icon you added.
PS: The wifi application shows the old icon in the program list

Much better! but can you tweak just a little bit the icon:
-rotate it -45 degrees
-last small piece is a circle but the sides of the circle are inside the icon
-same image for the small icon
hehe! blended 100% in our phones!
yes will try do that for ya!
Fixed the small icon and threw in a few optional icons like fades bars. Let me know what you think.
Very nice! thanks you both!

Edit Favorite Apps missing apps

Anyone else figure out how to add apps that are missing from the choices of apps to use when you edit the favorite apps for the edge?
I cannot find Calendar app which I use often.

It's there on mine...well sort of. Here are the steps on how I got to mine and other "missing" apps.
1. Go to the edge setup screen and choose Manage Panels then click the "pencil" in the favorites panel
2. look on your favorites edge for a folder with multiple apps. You may have to scroll vertically on the edge to get to it. Then click on it.
3. Select "Open Folder" and your calendar should be there. you can click the "minus" sign on any of the apps in teh folder and it will place them back into the main Favorites page. From there you can drag and drop the calendar icon into your favorites panel.
There's also an S-Panel Edge you can download from your manage Edge panels screen that will allow you to see your tasks and get to your calendar.
ricerx that was it! Because it was in a folder it would not let me put into the side. You are the man! Thank you.
How do you edit the second fav panel? There is no edit pencil icon on that. This is an AT&T version. The first panel I can edit but second I have no clue how I do that.
I have exactly the same issue with the T-Mobile version.

I have the exact same problem, but with the T-Mobile version SM-N915T. The favorites star at the top of the second favorites panel which, when pressed, pulls up the favorites list and allows one to alter the app list, is not selectable. Works fine on the first favorites panel, but not the second. Curiously, the second favorites panel's star is not solid (only outlined) whereas the first panel's is solid (filled). Anybody have a fix?

Every model of this phone comes with a carrier specific panel next to the favorites panel that is locked to either carrier-branded or carrier-promoted apps. This can't be changed. I'm sure someone will figure out a mod though.

Gear Watch Designer and Color Option

Anyone knows how to make a watch face with Gear Watch Designer with multiple background or index options?
I want to make a face with the option for the user to choose bg og index color, but I can't find out how.
There are several other faces with options so there must be a way to do this.

There is a way to add "Actions" to things. I haven't played around with it too much but you can swap images on touch. That's what I had gathered.
Or they do it on Tizen SDK
Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
What you could do is create new images with different merged backgrounds and indexes. You then add a background that has an index as part of the picture. With that image selected, go over to the right and choose action and create button. Click the action tab and under first drop down select change picture. You can then add up to six other pictures that have an index included. Align all the pictures to fit in the circle. Then once on a watch, you just tap the picture and it will cycle through the backgrounds with their indexes.

The program just requires some trial and error. I learned how to use it by modifying preexisting unlocked template faces.
Although it's fun to create something yourself, it's very easy to find practically any design that you want online.
You can leave the designs as they are, drastically change them in some way that suits you or just create something from scratch.
Next just sync the face to your watch via WiFi.
Furthermore, you can create a developer account and upload your own creations to sync with your Samsung account.
It literally took me 10 minutes to submit the developer application and get accepted.

I join the question. How to change the color of the arrows on tap, without prejudice to other functions. For example, I want to change the background color and the color of the hour and minute hands. At the same time, if you add different types of arrows to the "action" section, the background change function is blocked, since the layers are located below the arrows. I saw how the developers made a separate place on the screen for the function of changing the color of the arrows. But I did not understand how to do this.

How do I make my display look like Samsung's ad (photo attached - clock, icons, etc.)

The image is from Samsung's product page for one of their Note 20 Ultra covers, which features a transparent strip that shows the display on the phone itself. How can I get that display configuration on my phone?
I would like to get it set up exactly as in this picture, with the clock sideways on the top and the icons on the side below.
All I could manage was to set the Always On Display Clock Style to show the clock sideways, in one single row (screenshot of my phone below).
Thanks!
Can't see the pictures but if it's the case I'm thinking of, I think you need to case itself to activate it
Thank you for answering! I don't know why I can't get the images to display. I also tried to add one from imgur and it doesn't show either. I'm trying again,
This is called the Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G S-View Flip Cover, Black. https://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/m...ra-5g-s-view-flip-cover-black-ef-zn985cbegus/. It has a transparent strip along the side. Samsung says that the "Transparent cover window provides critical information when the cover is closed."
I thought that meant that it exposes the Always On Display (or the Lock Screen?) so you can press the icons through the cover. But maybe you are right. I wish I could figure it out. I don't even know where those icons are from, they are completely different (and much nicer, IMO), than the phone, etc. icon on my phone.
The cover only uses either part of AOD but it does not let you press it. Since it's a view cover meant to show what it supposed to show without you needing to open cover.

Thanks, I'm trying to figure out what AOD options it is using, and also the icon style. The case got pretty bad reviews for quality, but the ad picture intrigued me. I want to get my beautiful phone to show off all its bells and whistles too.
I even called Samsung to ask, and the best I can say is that they were less than helpful.

Well looking at the relevant image ,(you posted)
i would say it's super easy, if you know how to
use a app called KLWP (Play Store)
No root or anything etc
Some of my themes that i either "modded or made"

So my advise is get an
3rd party app eg KLWP and learn how to use it.?
Really super easy.... believe me and it's also relaxing and fun.
Good luck

I read an article about these covers that wasn't great and might make you want to think twice about doing it, which was because that part of the screen always has pretty much the same things showing all the time, it causes screen burn-in, which is not reversible. Think I'd stick to a tap to show method

Yes, you are quite right.
However, how I understand OP post, is that she read, that the actual Samsung Cover has received bad reviews ?
She is looking for alternatives ways to mimic
her screen/phone, to look like the relevant cover .?
Good luck.
