[Q] Will OTA work on stock rooted ROM with customer recovery and adblock? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm on the stock ROM with CWM recovery but I am only rooted for adblock, if I restore the host files, unroot and flash stock recovery will the OTA work?
I don't want to brick anything but I would also prefer not to have to wipe my data.
If anybody has experience is this it would be great!

No.

[Q] Stock recovery question for OTA

I found This topicon how to get back to stock recovery. My question is wouldn't you have to be on stock rom and the stock hboot for the OTA to work? or the HTCinstaller dosen't car just as long as the stock recovery is still intact?
I dont see the point, but thats just me.
New update comes out =new custom rom (stock or not stock) on xda
just backup important data before flash. some roms dont require a wipe if u r coming from the same rom 1 version under.
check rom threads. IMO no need for OTA.

[Q] Does flashing the official stock rom also flash official stock recovery?

[Q] GNex TOOLKIT V7 Drivers, Backup, Unlock, Root, CWM, Flash, Mods + MUCH MORE [GSM

The toolkit states that a full bootloader unlock, root, and cwm recovery installation is possible either separately or with “1 –click”. Elsewhere in the forum it is stated that android will revert to stock recovery if cwm is flashed to a stock ROM. Does the toolkit method solve the problem of reverting to stock recovery if not immediately flashing a custom ROM and staying with stock ROM? Or does this mean it will always revert to stock recovery when booting back into stock ROM unless the specific file listed is removed from /system?

How to flash OTA update on rooted phone with custom recovery?

Trying to flash 5.0 OTA from 4.4.4 without losing data on Nexus 5.
I don't know how to remove custom recovery so I can sideload the OTA zip in the stock recovery. It keeps loading into TWRP instead.
Can someone explain step by step how I flash the factory recovery.img?
That's not even possible (as far as I know)...

Click to collapse
Removing a custom recovery while preserving data is not possible, you should backup all your data, remove the custom recovery, flash 5.0 and then restore your custom recovery.
Are you using the Nexus Root Toolkit? It's incredibly easy and I use it for almost all my flashing, rooting, etc.
You can't apply an OTA on a rooted phone. On Kitkat and before you could end up in a boot loop. After Lollipop the OTA changed to system-level verification, and any change to the ROM stopped the OTA - all you get is a reboot to an unchanged system.
In any case, major ROM jumps usually work best with a total wipe and clean install of the new ROM. somerandomatoms is right - back up and install the new ROM. But why go to 5? You may as well go straight to 6.0.1.

Flashable d850 stock recovery ?

I'm basically planning to flash Autoprime's stock rom..
Ideally flash the stock recovery with Flashify..
Then use the unroot on Supersu & call it stock enough..
Any troubles with that anybody could think of ?
Looking for a link to a flashable stock recovery..
