I keep getting the Knox update - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I keep getting the Knox update request every once in a while. Does anyone else get the same request? What is it and is it safe to do that?

If you are rooted you can disable any Knox notifications with SuperSU
1. Open the app
2. Should ask if you want to disable any Knox notifications
3. Wait a little
4. And thats all folks!
By the way, this doesnt remove Knox from your phone, it only disables any Knox notifications

Resetting KNOX

After rooting, using SuperSU to disable KNOX, I was playing around. Editing, deleting, freezing, etc, etc... Well I triggered KNOX somehow and had to log into my Samsung account to reset my phone each time.
Well, come to find out, after resetting my phone in recovery and then resetting my phone through setting, KNOX is reset back to 0x0.
FYI
Wait a minute. Are you sure you had triggered bootloader level knox to 0x1, and reseting turned it back to zero? The towelroot and supersu should not trigger the Knox flag. Loading a recovery would do that. Are you sure you triggered knox, or just wiped it and reloaded the knox system?

How would you verify whether knox has been reloaded?
I had been using my s5 for work, we use Good Mobile. I rooted, thinking knox would be restored per the post, but I can no longer use my phone for work, as root tripped whatever security was in place, making my phone out of policy at work. No biggie, just have to use my tab now instead.
Hoping to get an unlocked BL and some custom roms etc. eventually.
he mustve done somethin else.. root hasnt tripped knox for n e one yet.. mustve done somethin else lol

Phone info on the Play Store will tell you if the Knox Warranty Flag is 0x0 or 0x1.
I find it weird that you somehow set Knox's Warranty Flag with root.... No-ones done that yet AFAIK. What did you do exactly?

Been waiting for root like everyone else. Read about towelroot >>> navigated to towelroot.com click on the lambda >>> dl using es downloader and install >>> make it ra1n or something :crying: >>> profit. Good no good.
I have a bad memory though and am wondering if there was an option to trip Knox or not, if there was I very well could have decided to trip it thinking I don't want half ass root issues....any way thought of resetting w/Odin but The Man will not own me!

So phone info is showing 0x1 in Knox Warranty Void? If not, its just something else. Custom status on phone may have caused some issues for your work.

This! Rooting won't trip the KNOX counter, but Super SU freezes it (see below).

When Super SU is installed, you're asked to freeze KNOX. To me, that means any applications that require it won't work...unless you do a full factory restore. The hardware flag should not be tripped by anything you can do on the phone currently, unless you have a Dev Edition.
So this isn't my first time rooting however I came from the S3 which did not have KNOX. So excuse any ignorance.
I rooted the S5, disabled KNOX with SuperSU (and received confirmation it was disabled) and continued to play with the phone at the root level. After playing with it (a lot), I decided to check KNOX status in ODIN and it read REACTIVATION LOCK(KK): ON.
I reset my phone and had to provide my samsung account login to reactivate the phone after wipe. I wiped it a few different ways including using KIES to do a firmware reload. The only way I had not tried was to reactivate the phone (after samsung login) and do a wipe phone reset through the settings menu.
The only way I was able to get the REACTIVATION LOCK(KK): to read OFF was after that method.
System status also read Custom. I have a feeling it was Triangle Away that triggered KNOX.
I have since wiped, it kept root surprisingly, and reloaded everything except Triangle Away with no issues.
Hope this is written as logical as it sounds in my head.

You managed to get past the REACTIVATION LOCK? That's most likely what set Knoxs warranty flag (not 100% though).

Yup. My phone does custom status randomly, sometimes it'll reboot and show official, sometimes it'll show custom. Dunno why, but I can't say I care.

You have to uninstall Good and load the Good root check disabler module for Xposed before reinstalling it. Otherwise it detects root.
Has nothing to do with Knox.
I use "hide my root" from the play store for when I do not need root to hide root from the apps that check for it that won't work if you you're rooted, works great, then when you need to do some work that needs root open the app unhide root tinker away until you need to hide root from one of those pesky apps, then hide it!

[Q] Question about rooting OTA KitKat

Hi everyone,
So I had rooted my phone using the Casual method, and mistakenly took the 4.3 OTA update (which locked my bootloader). Now, I'm on the KitKat OTA update (as of yesterday). In the sticky thread about the 4.3 update, I'm seeing a couple of things that make me hopeful. To be clear, all I want to do is root the phone--not install custom ROM's.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52904692&postcount=11 says that you can use "Survival Mode" in Super SU, and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53484457&postcount=19 talks about Towelroot working.
My question is, since I got the KNOX bootloader, are these still options for me? And if the Survival mode is, how do I enable it?
Some more information. When I try to open SuperSU, it says that it's missing and can't be installed. And I'm on the May 20 build of the kernel, so I'm assuming that I can use Towelroot to root my phone--but I'd like confirmation.
Have a great day, and thanks.
Patrick.
I used towelroot. I then installed busy box and supersu. I then checked root. I happen to stumble on your question so pm and let me know how well it worked. I posted a comment in the towelroot thread.
Towelroot works fine. Once super su is installed, close and re-open it. It will ask if you want to disable Knox. Say yes. This isn't the boot loader, it stops it from checking for root. You will start getting notifications to update security on the phone. Do not accept. It states on the disclaimer that comes up that it will remove programs and files IT deems are harmful to your device... Which means it will unroot you and delete anything that may be part of rooting...

That might be a problem then too. I got the thing about automatic updates from Samsung (SE for Android) and accepted it. I can always disable it, if necessary. I'll see if it will still root, and will disable the automatic updates if not. UPDATE: I was able to run Towelroot, and root the phone. Then I was able to reinstall SuperSU. When it updated and found KNOX, I clicked OK to disable that. After a bit, SuperSU stopped. According to SuperSU, I have SuperUser enabled.
Have a great day.
Patrick,

New GS5! uh...

Ok.
So, tough loving the new GS5.
I want my menu button back. What's with these HUGE tiles that show up on the most recent app list - I like how MOAR/Android did the smaller tiles on long press of HOME button on GS3.
Thanks to the towel root, I'm rooted.
How do you tell if knox bit is trippped?
Also - I downloaded SU from the play store. WHen I launch it it says "do you want to disable knox" - My brain says YES!! but... what happens? warranty void? Can you ODIN stock back on to restore it?
Using titanium I managed to get my apps moved. WTF good is the samsung smart move application if it does not move your files/ringtones/preferences or even your MAIL accounts??? Really?
So that's my initial thoughts. Feedback?
Oh, and Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays to all!

For the menu button. Hold the recent apps button (to the left of the home button/fingerpriny scanner). It still functions as a menu button you just have to hold it.

Idiots.
It's like windows 8. Lets change everything because someone thinks the users are all using it wrong.

Reboot into download mode, counter says 0x1 if tripped, but if you rooted with towelroot, you're not tripped. You're fine disabling Knox through SuperSU. As long as you don't trip Knox you can flash through kies or take it to a store to get 100 stock back on it. Overall, I really like mine. Got it for father's day, and so far, no complaints. You'll get used to the buttons. Just put the settings shortcut on your home screen . Have fun!

No, you can't. In order to flash new ROMS you have to have custom recovery, which is flashed through Odin, which trips Knox.

That does not make sense, at least to me. if that were true they could never update their own recovery, even if a flaw or bug or feature required it.

An official install from Samsung would not trip knox, just like when you odin a stock tar does not trip knox. Only a custom recovery trips it, so Samsung would have no problem updating a flawed recovery without tripping knox.
Right. that's my point. So, what "actually does" trip knox? or, how do you package a "custom rom" so that the stock recovery deploys it.
Challenges!

What trips Knox is booting into a custom recovery. I'm pretty sure that using Odin to install it by itself won't trip it, but booting into it will. And of course, you can't install a custom rom without using a custom recovery.

Ok guys... how to roll back? I hate HATE the UI changes / notifications behaviors in 5.0 lollipop. SHould be called "lollypoop".
So, how do I get 4.4.4 back? All those pastel colors and no clear delineation of things (what, borders are illegal now?).. hurts my eyes!
You would need to use ODIN and download the full TAR version that you want.

Private mode not working after root

Hi guys, I have read somewhere that the private mode will stop working once you root. I think there is a fix for the Galaxy Note 4, and I have tried it but they dont work on the edge :crying: Has anyone found a fix for the edge??? I really love this feature. Will flashing back to stock firmware fix it? or once the Knox has been tripped, has it gone forever??

[Q] How do you check if Knox is tripped?

Got my galaxy S6 yesterday and I have already rooted using ping pong root and installed Flashfire. I flashed some zips and now it shows the word "custom" with a "unlocked lock" picture when booting up. So I wanted to check if Knox was tripped. Previous Samsung Galaxy phones I owned showed if it was tripped in the download mode or odin mode. Booted my S6 into download mode or odin mode, but don't I see any knox. Any ideas? Sorry if this was asked in other thread. I tried google search and came up with nothing.

So was it tripped? With news of PingPong root I'm about to pull the trigger and upgrade. Curious about knox tripping myself, though. Thanks.
Turns out that it was not tripped. But it shows system is modified in download mode. I guess it was one of the mods I flashed that changed it to modified.

Using PingPong(or anything) to root will make it say 'Custom' in Download Mode because of the changes made to the System partition.

However I will add that flashing the stock tar with Odin will set everything back to normal. After flashing it will still say custom until it fully boots to OS and is restarted.

Just letting you know that I just rooted with PingPong and Knox was not tripped. I've got an S6, International Version. But nothing got modified.
I had to run in 3 times to get it working, but it went OK.
920FD (Dual Sim) International/Unbranded had to run it twice, got a reset the 1st time, then the 2nd time went as expected. Only WLD (wake lock detector) does not recognise it, so far all other root apps do.
