On Asphalt 8, a racing game, they're selling two cars for £69.99 ($110)
Anyone seen anything worse than that?

Asphalt 5

Asphalt5 is a pure arcade racer. It combines the smash 'em elements of Burnout and the hardcore racing thrills of Ridge Racer into a sometimes silly but always manic speeder. If you go into this expecting a precision driving sim along the lines of Real Racing, you will be severely disappointed. But if you download Asphalt 5 with the expectation of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride with Ferraris, you will be suitably satisfied.
You are hard-hearted if you are not immediately impressed with Asphalt 5's zillion-dollar looks. As always, Gameloft delivers standout production values. The game stretches across several continents, delivering racing scenes in some of the world's most recognizable metros, like Rio de Janiero and Las Vegas, as well as lovely outdoor scenes such as Aspen. Every location is bright and loaded with detail. The car models are excellent, too. From the starting Mini Cooper S to the Ferrari 599 XX, Gameloft has done a stellar job recreating these vehicles. It's amazing that an iPhone game can easily outpace many PlayStation 2 racers in this department.
But Asphalt 5 is more than the prettiest girl at the dance – although the game has plenty of those, too. (Gameloft loves the ladies. You unlock female companions as you race through career mode.) The tilt steering is very well done. I have few complaints about the level of responsiveness, although you can be too severe with your tilting, though. It is easy to over-correct a turn or veer too wildly to avoid oncoming traffic, but a little practice cures this. There are multiple control options, but I recommend the default tilt steering above all of them as you only need to worry about tapping a brake and nitro button. As mentioned, Asphalt 5 is an arcade racer, so do not expect real-world physics. Occasionally, Asphalt 5 feels like a pinball game – but it never sells itself as a serious racer, so this is hardly a fault. In fact, since I usually prefer games like Burnout and Daytona USA over Gran Turismo, I found this endearing in Asphalt 5.
Asphalt 5's career mode offers a host of different events, from straight races and time trials to drift contests. You collect dollars in many events, too, to boost your bottom line and buy new rides. The only event I had trouble with was cop chase where you need to eliminate a set number of rivals, Burnout-style. Now, I'm not expecting a game to roll over and take it, but the computer-controlled cars are way too psychic when it comes to avoiding your incoming swipes. Perhaps if Gameloft dialed back the number of eliminations required or at least made the rival racers a little less clairvoyant, these events wouldn't be so dreaded by the second hour of play. Now, you can choose the events you want to play to get through a lot of career mode, but eventually you are forced into one of these events and it just brings the fun to a screeching halt.

Sorry, but you aren't allowed to post warez on this forum.
(I know that you already have, but you know what I mean...)
I think that you should remove the file, before a mod tells you to.

Please refrain from posting Warez on XDA.
Support Android development. It's not like the apps are that expensive. We want to keep XDA online, and posting illegal files can cause legal problems for the forum administration.
Warez... hmmmm!!!
I don't want to sound like a complete ass but not all of us can access the services offered on "Play Now".. i got the apk via xda forums
To saltorio this is your spec:
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10a | Android 1.6 | Baseband: 1.1.31 | Build: R2BA026 (ROOT)
You rooted your phone!!!!... you have altered the phones "rom"... and yet there are issues with "warez?" ... just one crazy person whispering in the wilderness
Still we should all support the developers where we can
Surely it would make sense for a Mod to remove the file and replace it with a link to the site?
The review is not too bad.. just a shame the idiot attached the game!

[Q] Gaming?

I bought this phone for my wife and didn't think it would impress me as much as it has. The screen is simply amazing and now I'm thinking of purchasing this phone. The only thing that is keeping me from buying it is the lag when I play some games. Is anyone here a big player of games like Grave Defense, Guns n Glory, Robo Defense, etc? Pretty much tower defense games. Those are really the only types of games I play besides the occasional angry birds and homerun battle 3d. I played Robo defense on my wifes phone and it started lagging which doesn't happen on my older droid incredible.
I'm hoping maybe rooting fixes the lag problem on these type of games. Or maybe the new EE4(I think that's the name) update? Or maybe this phone just isn't that good for gaming? Either way this phone is still really good for most people, just being the tech nerd I am I want to make sure I am able to play these types of games for the next couple of years. They don't seem that graphically demanding, that's why I was surprised with the lag when playing robo defense on my wifes phone...What do you guys think? Should I hold out for something else? Thanks in advance for reading my longer then needed post, but what do you expect on a Friday night (alcohol cough* cough* )

If you root and install the app "Chainfire3d" games will run much better. Found this out today thanks to Tornlogic. I haven't tried it on my Charge yet, others have and said positive things. I tried it on my Droid 2 and it improved gaming. I'm getting a replacement charge due to a spot on the screen, once I get the new one I'll be rooting and installing this.

Small Father's Day EA Sale (Dead Space, PvZ, FIFA 12, and NFS: Hot Pursuit)

Thought I had to share this: EA is throwing a sale for some of its Android apps because of Father's day (source).
Here are the games in question and their respective discounts:
FIFA 12 - 40% off
Plants vs Zombies - 33% off
Dead Space - 30% off
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit - 20% off
Be warned though: as of the last update, the XP controls are not working in Dead Space.
Finally, I was thinking of grabbing PvZ. Is it worth it at this price? Or can it possibly get a better discount for Christmas or something?
Yeah, totally worth it. Great port from pc, fluent gameplay and great usage of the touch screen!

[GAME] Final Fantasy III - bad Joke or am I to stupid?

I've recently bought FFIII - basicly it's a nice game, but IMHO a little bit to short with about 2 Hours of Gameplay....
I also miss things like proffesion wich should be there (is always grayed out).
Maybe I'am too stupid for the game, I've postet what I've done, but be carefull - SPOILER-Alert....
-- SPOILER - SmallWhiteLetters!! --
Cave - nothing special
1st Village - lootet everything
2nd Village - lootet everything
Airship
Castle - lootet everything, level up through lvl8
North-Cave - found princess, killed Boss
crystal calling - end credits, game over
No proffessions, just the small island, 2 villages, 1 castle and 2 caves.... - don't know what's with the big rock in south, couldn't do anything with it.
Maybe I really did something wrong, killed the boss to early or whatever (never played FF before), so if I did I'd like to know before I get mad on the game

I want this game but can't fathom Sqenix's idea of pricing this as the most expensive Android game in history! $16 dollars?!?! Do they feel entitled to that price??? WTF?
If the jobs are not open then you still have more to go. If you saw the scene with the Crystal and credits, that is more opening credits. This happens in most of the early final fantasy games. After the intro credits, the game continues, and you get jobs and can pass the rock.
And I totally agree, $16 is crazy for the game. I paid for the ds version when it came out, and will not be paying $16 to play it again.

Those weren't the end credits they are essentially the opening credits everything you had done to that point was essentially the prologue to the games main story, earlier Final Fantasy games up till about FF5 all used this sort of opening format.
Also for those who think that $15 is too steep, that's about the same price as SPB Shell and this is a game that was selling for $40 on PSP and NDS not too long ago, so there's that.
So you turned off the game as the prologue finished? lol

And the other poster. Yeah 16 is steep. I didn't pay for spb shell either.

This app downloaded & installed without any errors. I try and run it, all it does is try to connect to FF3!!! Any suggestions on how to get this to work?
I don't see how anyone can say the price is steep. The Nintendo DS version is $18 right now on Amazon. Are they supposed to drop the price just because now it's on a phone/tablet? Or because people might already own the copy of the game on another format? Good luck getting Square Enix to discount that Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII-2 because you already own the PS3 version.
Get used to it folks. If they are going to be releasing real games for Android, expect to run into real game pricing.

Its a six year old port so $16 is pretty steep, especially compared to the pricing of other games on Android, and also considering the DS version is physical and you can resell it when youre done with it.
It is not a bad joke, so......
The iOS version is amazing, I have over 40 hours played!

You may think it's steep because you're not used to seeing games at that price point, but they exist. Spectral Souls and Generation of Chaos are both popular Android games that each cost $15. FF III's pricing is also perfectly in line with what the game is selling for on other platforms. What makes you think the same game on an Android device should cost less? In many instances the game play is way better than what is is on the DS. I'll take a 7" or 10" tablet screen over a DS screen any day. They also don't price physical games the way they do because they are assuming you're gonna sell it. Game publishers hate the buying and selling of used games. That's why there isn't any difference in price between buying a physical copy or buying it off Xbox Live or PSN. Regardless, happy with it or not, your're probably gonna see more of it.
Lol, a Final Fantasy game completed in 2 hours?? That's hilarious, the OP obviously has not played one before. I don't blame him if he really hasn't, I suppose there are people who don't know what an RPG is.
As for the pricing, seriously why are people complaining about it? It's a port of a full console game, old or not, port or not. Game companies, especially reputable ones, do not sell their fully developed RPG games of a globally recognized series at 5 dollars and below, regardless of platform.
Also it's a Japanese RPG game, you do not sell a Japanese RPG game cheap. If you don't know by now, Japanese games are sold at a premium compared to American games so the 15 dollar price is pretty much par for the course.
I think the problem here is people have a very wrong but understandable expectation of what a smartphone app is. If you see apps everyday being sold at around a buck, you'd come to expect all games to be sold at that price. But people do not realize that not all game apps are made equal, and this is one such example.
Let's take for example a game like Angry birds. It's a time waster game with tons of repetitive stages without much depth in plot made by a small newbie company targeted against a wide audience. The amount of resources put into making this game corresponds pretty much to the price.
Now we take a port of a full fledged RPG game made by a huge gaming company in Japan using resources of different teams of people, and I'm talking groups of people, not just a tiny group of programmers. Then we add in the translation to English and the extra programming resource to port to Android. And the target audience is just a small portion of the masses, come on not everyone likes to play RPGs. So how you expect a game like this to be sold cheaply is beyond me.
And don't even talk about how ports should be cheaper and how you should not be paying more just because you already bought the console version etc. An android port is just the same as any other downloadable console game port, and it even comes with the added risk of being pirated.
Btw, the iOS version of this game costs the same so I wonder if the iSheep are complaining as much or are we Android users really that cheap?
You obviously didn't read the dialog..... Load back to the point before you fought the boss and defeat him again. This time read....."Head back to the castle princess" or something like that. you rushed to post this when you should've checked the "2" towns or guess what!? the CASTLE...

I don't think the price is unfair at all. I'd like to see more Android games sold in the $15-20 range (or more!) but you know what? They'd better be worth it! If I connect a PS3 controller via Bluetooth, you better let me use it. If I have an Xperia Play (I don't), you better support it. If I have neither of those, the touch screen controls should be solid and forgiving. Shadowgun was an FPS that had very good touch controls. I felt like I should be handicapped with the touch screen, but I never actually did. It was subtle and sublime and effective. It "Just Worked". I've heard FF3's controls are very good, so I'm not knocking it, I'm just saying the controls should reflect the price. So, also, should the content. JRPGs are good candidates for Android. They shouldn't have complicated controls. Swipe to move, touch your menu options to converse, barter, or fight. Touch/tilt-based minigames (I'm thinking FF7, only FF I finished). Platforming, eh, not so much.
Wish I liked JRPGs. This one looks like a real winner.
Another note about the price: How much is your time worth? You pay $10 for a movie ticket (not counting refreshments), that's $5 an hour for entertainment. If you're getting more than 3 hours out of this game -- and I'm sure you are -- you're getting the same value. Any more, and you're getting a better deal. If you spend 16 hours on this (and I think that should be possible) then you're being entertained for $1 an hour. Is that unfair? Play it again a year later, you're down to 50¢ an hour. So again I ask: how much are you willing to spend to be entertained?
The original ff3 came out in 1990 and the ds version in 2006. I kind of find it hard to pay for a game that old, and I would be the first one to do it because it is classic ( still waiting for that chrono trigger port). Yet if you take a movie that's at least 6 years old to another theater and slap an extra $5.00 on top of any other movie showing, do you think anyone would go watch it? Even if it was a classic it would only be in selected theaters, and it would be dirt cheap unless they throw it in Imax or make it 3d. Throw something up on the play store and 50% of all cell phone users and nearly everyone that has android will see it. I saw it on day one it dropped on the play store not to mention a few websites I visit everyday. With all that exposure and how old it is you would think it would be at least 9.99 regular price and maybe 5.99 or less on sale. How much are 6 year old DVDs right now? If its a premium price it should come with premiums. Just because you want to be entertained doesn't mean you have to turn off you brain.

Well, I don't know that $15.99 is a premium price. I suppose it is among Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja; for smartphone-based games yes, it is expensive. But for regular handheld games, DS and PSP games start at $35 and go up from there. $16 is less than half of that, and Final Fantasy games are never cheap.
You're right about old movies and you could have also pointed out that movies cost more to make than video games, even JRPGs. But movies also pay for themselves in a very short time, and only offer you 90-150 minutes (1.5-2.5 hours). Video games don't always pay for themselves so fast; developers, and more so publishers, count on gamers to pick them up a few years after their release. I'm not saying FF3 hasn't paid for itself yet. I'm sure it has. I'm just saying that Square is at least equally entitled to ask about a third of what the game originally cost as movie studios are to ask for a quarter of what a DVD once cost ($20 MSRP vs. the $5 bargain bin at Walmart).
But I don't know where you're getting this "$5 extra" premium idea from. What other Final Fantasy games are sold for $10.99 for smartphones? Or are you comparing FF3's price to that of Gameloft games? Gameloft is a pretty big deal on smartphones, I suppose, but they're not Square. Square's games are truly world class, at least according to their fans. Again, I'm not one of them, but I'm sure if I paid for FF3, I'd get what I paid for in a JRPG. There are some JRPG or otherwise more strategic/turn-based RPGs on the Market, but they are not Final Fantasy quality, and I don't think anybody is saying they are. They are good for what they are. Again, you get what you pay for.
If we aren't willing to pay $16 for a premium game on Android, why should other developers consider our platform? I'd love to see something like Oblivion or Skyrim, or better yet, Fallout 3 or New Vegas, on our phones, but I don't think Bethesda is willing to port those games to Android for what smartphone owners are accustomed to paying, and I don't blame them.
Out of curiosity, what are you willing to pay for a Chrono Trigger port? This considering you can play it right now for free using Snes9x EX and the SNES ROM.

Looking for suggestions on a good Adventure/RPG

As title says, im looking for something to get me sucked in and play for a long time. Ive played Knights of Pen And Paper, Stilland War HD and Dungeon Hunter 4. Ill pay for a game if its worth it. Anything close to those games would be nice.
