[Q] Can't sideload Android Lollipop - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
So I have custom recovery twrp and I learned that having custom recovery means I have to sideload android L
So I installed the proper zip file and tried flashing it but it "fails executing updater binary in zip"
I have twrp 2.6 , I know there's 2.8 now so should I install latest recovery ? and how do I do so without erasing all data ? and lastly I can't find the 15 seconds driver installation for the nexus 5 in order to install a new custom recovery.
Plz help.
Edit : P.S : I'm not rooted

You can't apply the L OTA with custom recovery
15 second installer is ADB and fastboot, not drivers. Though youll find both in the adb and fastboot thread which is in general > sticky roll up
In fact all your answers are found in general > sticky roll up

I installed latest version of twrp and still failed to sideload android L zip file with same error message, now what ?

You need to have the stock recovery. Sideload it in that. It won't work in twrp

If I get stock recovery I won't need to side load at all then . Why won't it work on twrp ?

You're doing a really good job of reading.

Oh sorry, didn't get that 1st line. Ok, so if I'm going to get stock recovery anyway, shouldn't I just download the OTA update and it will get me back to stock recovery on it's own ?

You need to have the stock recovery for the ota to work. Whether you sideload it or not. Just flash the stock recovery in fastboot and get it over with

See rootSU's sticky rollup. You'll have to extract it out of the 4.4.4 factory image

ok after flashing the system and everything, will this cost me any data ? do I need to wipe data and reset factory settings from recovery mode also ?? I know I can have back-up but still. Finally, can I just flash the android L factory image instead or it won't work unless I flash 4.4.4 factory image ? thx for your patience

You can flash the 5.0 factory image. But, you need to flash each image manually and don't flash userdata.img or use fastboot -w. Those will wipe your data.

I tried several time downloading the factory image file on my pc, everytime whenever the download is 1 second away from finishing,it says network error and the download fails.
This is the link and it keeps failing, does anyone have another link I can use ??

[Q] Problem with recovery - MOTO G LTE - 4.4.4

I've just bought Moto G LTE and tried to get root. I've already unlocked bootloader, downloaded CWM 6.0.5.0 peregrine and tried to boot it with fastboot boot CWM-6.0.5.0-peregrine.img. Then it entered CWM but after few seconds screen went black and it didn't respond to anything and I needed to hold power button to reboot. The same thing is with last TWRP 2.7.1.0 - peregrine. I don't want to flash recovery until I can boot it in because I'm afraid something could go wrong. Within these few seconds in CWM before the screen got dark I flashed SuperSU so I have root. But I'd like to have working recovery.
Please, is there any guide to solve it?
Android version - 4.4.4
Kernel - [email protected] #1
System version - 21.11.56.peregrine_reteu.reteuall.en.EU reteu
Build number - KXB21.14-L1.56

You can't flash images from recovery, only zips. You need to use fastboot to flash a system image.
So there isn't any way

Actually, looking at your screenshots I might be wrong. I'm still on 2.8.0 and there is no option to flash images, only zips. But it looks like the version of TWRP you're running does have the option to flash images. I've never seen that before, you learn something new every day I guess. That being the case, I don't know why you would be getting that error. Are you sure you're trying to flash the correct image?
EDIT: I just checked out the TWRP thread, and according to the OP, you can only flash boot and recovery images, not system images. So I guess my original post still stands. If you want to flash a system image, you need to use fastboot. Otherwise, flash a ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47108907&postcount=1
What's the big deal? Why not just use fastboot?
Thank you sir
did you know if anyone modified system.img to .zip ?
just system file without data
for don't delete my app
and again sorry for my English
Fastboot flash system system.img is all you need

What do you mean you can't flash any ROM? Please try and be as clear as possible- if I don't understand what's going on, I can't be of much assistance.
What situation are you in? How did you get into your current situation?
So is your original system wiped? You can't boot into android anymore?
I'm so sorry sir
I have multirom manager , and by mistake I install Miui OS on the primary OS , after 10 seconds i stop it , so the primary KitKat system wiped.
Thanks to god I solved this problem by flash system.img from laptop and flash another recovery by (NRT toolkit ) than open multirom from the primary OS to reinstall last version of kernel and TWRP recovery
If you have the latest twrp you can flash img. If there is an error then the system.img must be corrupt (maybe bad download). Is your multirom up to date?

It was my understanding that you can flash any .img other than system.img. At least that's what it said in the OP of the TWRP thread when I read it the other day.

And FYI, stop using toolkits. You should have flashed recovery the same way you flashed system.img, from your laptop with fastboot. Toolkits can cause a lot of problems and if you rely solely on them, you'll never learn how to fix any problems that you may encounter.
Oh, never actually used it, just knew you could flash img files.

[Guide][Receive OTA after root][keep apps/data][GT-I9500][5.0.1]

a lot of users are having this problem and if you want to receive an OTA you have to flash the stock unrooted firmware that will cause lose of data.
this guide will show you how to receive OTA again without losing your stuff
This works on GT-I9500 ONLY! (Lollipop 5.0.1 Recovery)
This also should work on any other model, but you have to replace the recovery with your model!
Steps:
1- Go to SuperSU and scroll down to "Full unroot" then reboot.
2- Download This file to PC and extract it.
3- Go to download mode by pressing the power key + home key + volume down key at the same time, then press volume up.
4- Flash the file via Odin (AP) or (PDA)
go to check the system status, you will find it Official
you can now receive OTA.
Q&A:
What is OTA (Over The Air)? Its an update which you can receive over wifi or mobile data.
What do i get from OTA? Well, if you root your device you wont be able to receive an update again, unless from flashing firmware via Odin.
- Why im still on custom status? Because you modified your system.
- What kind of modifying? Installing busybox, editing or deleting or changing any app or file system.
and some times xposed.
- How do i restore the old app? You can restore them by flashing firmware or by restoring Nandroid backup.
- Then what is the use of your guide? Well my guide helps in first place the rooted not the modded onces.
and always do Nandroid of the original system apps+data
you are still having your apps, data, pics, vids, etc...
you can root again at anytime.
check my thread for rooting if you want
im not responsible for any bricks
thank you...

At some point the update maybe canceled, because the update checks for the apps before the installation, always do a backup of your phone then remove what you want, after you want to update just restore the system folder from the backup

Delete this file and go to settings - about device - software update - update now
It should download update again.

Don't want be rude, but this error was asked multiple times in the past 2 weeks and there are already at least 5 threads opened with this question and exact screen. First of all, you can not OTA update with TWRP, only with Cyanogen recocery. Either that or dowload the full ROM and flash it.

Then something was wrong, cause based on that screen you are still on Android 4.4.2 (fingerprint).
It is better to flash the full ROM, not the delta: CN-12.0-YNG1TAS2I3-bacon-signed-FULL.zip
This can be flashed also from TWRP.

Unable to update to 12.1

So today I saw that the 12.1 update is downloaded and asking me to install it. But, when I do try installing it the screen is stuck at the Cyanogen Recovery.
The usual options in recovery screen are displayed, why isn't the OS updating?
FYI - My OPO is rooted and also has TWRP recovery installed. I also tried disabling the Update Cyanogen Recovery option but the same option.
Any assistance would be great

You can't flash the OTA with TWRP recovery. You can either flash the stock recovery and then install the OTA, or you can download the full ROM zip and flash that with TWRP.
