I'm having problems trying to download files to my SD card on Lollipop. Not sure if it matters or not, but I had a SD card fix installed when I was on KitKat. I know that Lollipop is supposed to have support for SD cards but it's not working for me. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I can get ES File Explorer to work right. It prompted me to use the recent downloads window one time and after that it works fine. But still can't get it to work in the downloader program.

Sd micro 64gb i cant move or delete files with ez explorer not rooted.
So I did root so that can't be the issue. I can't get it to see the card at all, even in settings, under storage it doesn't show up even as mounted.
I've tried restarts, removing and inserting, etc to no avail...

I can see my card and even play my DVD's off of it via VLC (MX Player isn't 5.0 ready), but I can't change files. Does Android's "Erase SD Card" option also format? I may try that as I don't have anything else that can read/format a 64GB microSD (well, my DSLR can but I have no microSD to SD adapters)

It's not unfortunately.
Apps accessing data on the SD card don't find the data
I did some further tests and it looks like apps, for example a navigation app where the maps are on the SD card, don't find the map data on the SD card.
I am not rooted and just did the upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop. Everything worked fine before the update though.

another way if already rooted, install Folder Mount (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devasque.fmount&hl=en) which is very useful in it's own right. When ran for the first time it'll detect that the SD Card is not writeable, it'll offer to fix it. Choose to do so, reboot, and presto!!

Hello everyone. I recently underwent a forced upgrade to an LG Optimus F3 after my Kyocera Rise almost started a house fire. I am trying to get all my apps on the thing and everything has gone smoothly. However when I tried to install FIFA 14, which is a large app, I receive an error message.

This is baffling, since I have over 25 GB of space remaining on the card.

Any advice on how to resolve this problem would be appreciated.
Things that may be ****ing stuff up:
-I literally took the SD card straight from the other phone and put it in this one.
-I have been installing a lot of stuff today.
-I don't really know what else.

No, I do not. Would you recommend I install it?
I thought the problem might be coming from the fact that the SD card was used in another phone. So I used the Erase all Data option in Settings > Storage, but the problem persists.
Can anyone help, or do you need more info?
Maybe I need to format the card another way?
And pardon the double post, but here's another screenshot, this time of ES File Explorer.

Well, it shows my SD cards under Settings > Storage, but I'm not seeing an option to move apps to SD on the app menus.
I also hard reset my device, but apparently the problem still persists. When I get home imma try the other SD card and see if there's a change.
No change with the other SD card, so it must be a phone error. Any ideas?

Yes, I just rooted my phone. However, the problem persists, and I still don't have the option to move apps to SD card. I'm not sure what you're getting at in the second sentence though, sorry.
Okay what I mean by the second sentence is that Aparted is available for pc and as apk for android, which one did you use??? And when you partitioned the sd card what format did you use NTFS, FAT32, FAT16 etc.... and also did you wipe the sd prior to formatting it???

I used the android one, a fat32 format, and yes.
Okay, basically what I think is going on is that my phone just doesn't support apps on SD card. Something about the way my filesystem emulates an SD card or something, so it's not a capability I can just unlock from the phone. Anyway, I've been able to sort of work around the problem by using link2SD with an aparted partition, which looks like it's working perfectly, as far as it goes. If anyone else runs into a problem like this and finds a better solution please let me know!
Thanks for all the suggestions.

I rooted successfully and got directory bind. Everything is lined up perfectly and I press add and nothing happens. I then go into the sd card via my pc and I try to create a folder and the PC won't allow me. I suspect the card can't be written to which is why directory bind won't copy. Any suggestions? Before I rooted, I had no issue creating a folder on the SD card....
I should mention I also d/l the sdfix kitkat program from google play and it says no action necessary.....I also can take the sd card out of the shield and plug it directly into my pc and it works fine so it;'s def shield related
The current format is NTFS. I've been reading FAT32 could be an option but I'm using a 32 gb card so am I going to lose half my card? Don't understand why I had no writing issue prior to root and now I do? both were NTFS
FIGURED IT OUT - FAT32 was the answer. works now formatted that way. not sure why ntfs all of a sudden stopped working after root.
so shield can't write on NTFS either.. ?
I knew it can't handle exfat, that's just meh..

NTFS was the problem as the shield only supports it as read only.
I used to have to have a 32gb MicroSD card in my Note 3 which i used to use for my files. After I rooted my phone, I thought it would be a good idea to store my TWRP backups to my MicroSD card as it frees up internal storage but however after I initially made my 1st backup to my card, the system booted up and apparently the card was blank. I know this to be false as I have loads of photos on it and I selected the MicroSD card in recovery to make my nandroid backup to and after like 3 minutes, it was made.
Question is. How do I get my MicroSD card back to normal. I'm aware of formatting it and then mounting it in recovery but I don't want to lose my files on the card. I inserted the card into my laptop and the command prompt said it had a RAW file system.

I used Recuva. It's from the people that make CCleaner. Worked for me. But honestly, don't let it restore files that are partially damaged, because if they're music or photos or videos, they won't play/display correctly, and it'll cause wakelocks from the media scanner until you find and delete them.

Don't reformat, just put the microSD card into your computer (with an adapter, or with something that will let it show up as mass storage, not MTP). Point Recuva to the card. It'll tell you what files are partially restorable and fully restorable. Like I said, don't restore the damaged stuff. From experience, what'll happen if you do is you're gonna get wake locks and no app will be able to tell you which files are damaged. So you'll end up having to format the entire card anyways to get rid of the wake lock/damaged files.

But really, I'm hoping and waiting for a solution that encompasses all devices that doesn't require Jailbreaking, which is what this amounts to. If anybody has a clear cut solution to getting a Lollipop feature to work in Lollipop that'd be great.
Meanwhile, jellybean is definitely the way to go, I guess.

The way android security works you need root permissions to change the permissions to write to the card. Google have decided to do this I assume to protect apps. Currently there is no way around it unless the app gets the sdcard_w permission authority, and I assume that is handled through SELINUX which is evil.

Under the KitKat and Lollipop specifications, applications are locked to specific directories in a manner almost identical to the way iOS devices are. It seems to be a really good comparison.

I agree in sentiment about what Google's done with Android 4.4+ with jailing their SD card apps. If a flashlight app can have has access to your call history, recent apps, contacts, calendars, the Internet, and all of your internal storage, it can wreak havoc. But if you're just trying to play your SD card's Bandcamp music with VLC, it shouldn't be locked out of the folder just because it's in a different place... and no set of permissions can solve that problem, sans getting your hands on a PC you can install your own drivers on(!) or voiding your warranty(!!).

There is a much easier way to write to external SD card that doesn't require root and it works 100% of the time. If you're still having issues, message me or something and I'll give you the details on how to setup full write access on your card on Android 5.0

Worked for me on 5.0.1. Using ES and a sandisk 64g
Haven't had time to root yet and getting tired of downloading Roms, unzipping then connecting to my pc, pull them off to transfer back to the ex card.
It would seem that es file explorer cannot differentiate the external as a second drive until it has a name, mine is now ExSD1. Formated in NTSF. When ES asked for the root name I just clicked on the new one.
Haven't done a lot but the few things I moved to or deleted from the ex card went smooth with no more error message/force closing
This works. Only ES File Explorer can write to the SD card.
Other apps still have problems, this will do for now, until either new firmware allows SD writing or I have too root.
This is a shame, but better than nothing.

Would formatting the sdcard to NFTS slow down the overall read/write speed of a card?
I did a little searching but haven't seen any other issues like this so I thought I'd get some insight here.
I have a wifi model note 10.1 that has been running a 4.4.4 rom (omnirom) for awhile and haven't had any issues until just recently with no changes or upgrades to the device the SD card is no longer being recognized. No apps are able to access files on there, es file explorer doesn't last it in the drop down, and most of the time under the storage settings it will either recognize the card and show 0 files on it, or not recognize there's an SD card at all. Sometimes restating will help or unmounting and remounting the card but it never lasts. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Can you create a folder or copying something into the microSD card?
If you can't, it's at its write limit = change card
When it happen you can still open/view file in it but not deleting/editing/creating files.
I didn't know that and that's exactly what it's doing. I can't delete or anything like that, but I was able to copy the files on it to my desktop. Thanks for that. Just picked up a new SD card yesterday anyways.
